Wow, nice help from someone that just joined XDA. We are a community here and do not think you would appreciate it if all your "newbie" questions are met with the same tone. Next time you decide to offer the same kind of wisdom on to others, just go on to the next post.
To the matter at hand, I do not have a OneS yet so can sadly not comment on the usability of it. I too will be coming from the Gnex and will have to play around with both when I get my OneS next week before seeing if I made the right choice. The limited time I used it the audio was noticeably better, and the internet speeds were also better. The longest phone I ever had was the HD2 and am anxious at giving HTC a shot again.
Some people say the data connection isnt as strong as others so that might be a concern for you. I have no experience with Canadian carriers so someone else might be able to chime in.

sent from a guy living in a van down by the river

I love mine. Haven't had any issues. It's just the right size. My SGS2 was a little big for my liking let alone the gs3. I need to be able to reach the screen w/my thumb while securely holding it. Not saying its better, just better for me.

The One S sold in Canada should work for Mobilicity/Wind - They're the same as the T-Mobile model.
That said, it's a fantastic phone.

Not worth it coming for a gnex. You will notice the lower resolution. Either get the S3 or get the Nexus back.

The one s screen is a better screen actually if you do your research, sure its res is worse but viewing angles are much better and you don't get that Samsung blue ting on light colors
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using Tapatalk 2

That blue tint you're talking about isn't Samsung's doing, but is found on most AMOLED screens. The gnex and the one s both use super amoled.
I haven't seen the one s screen but I can say that the gnex has the least blueish tint I've seen on any amoled screen. It has a very warm preset color tone, almost like an LCD.

G2x Or Nexus S?

Hey Everybody,
Well I've had my Nexus S since March 23 and I've really enjoyed trying out various roms and tinkering around with the Android OS. (I came from an iPhone 4 on at&t.) Now I feel like I'm at a crossroad trying to decide what phone to stick with for the next year or so. I have till the 23 to return the nexus to best buy. I bought unlocked and if I do decide to switch I'll do the same with the G2x. How many of you are coming from the nexus s on this forum and what made you want to switch the most? I'm primarily concerned with the battery life on the G2x and updates either from LG or modders. The things I don't like about the nexus s are 3G data speeds (2.5-3 down and 1-1.5 up in my area, Birmingham, AL) and 1 day to day in a half battery life. What would you guys or girls do in a similar situation? Can anyone comment on the "4G" data speeds in this area of the country or in general on T-Mobile? I've read various reports of speeds from 5-9 Mbps down and your average up. I also hope the 4G won't kill battery and we'll have a killswitch when not in use. I'm sure most have seen the mobileburn video, she seemed to put down the nexus s screen in favor of the G2x. I find that hard to believe seeing how awesome the samoled screen looks and how black the blacks are. Anyone who's seen the G2x in store that can confirm the findings she had? Thanks for any help anyone can offer up!

ive only played around with the nexus s so i cant say its better
i can point out things the G2x has over the nexus
DUAL CORE
1080p video/mirroring
4G
and a few more
i am a past VIBRANT/SGS4G owner and can confirm the G2x screen is more "vibrant" than the Super amoled BUT nothing can top the AMOLED blacks/dark colors
i held the SGS4G up to the "test" G2x the local store has with the brightness turned all the way down on both the G2x is much brigher (battery killer?)
and with them turned all the way up (both)
id say the G2x is still brighter/more colorful
i love samsung for their screens but remember just like the nexus this is a GOOGLE phone so updates will come alot quicker than a bloated phone
obviously the dual core vs single core is speaking for its self
and the 1080p video/mirroring does too
the 4G in my area (wisconsin) isnt that great but i did notice hella faster speedtest on my SGS4G than on my vibrant
honeslty if i where you id get the G2x its got a few upsides over the nexus
and for battery i hear its good (1day) for being a monster (dualcore/4g)
this phone is faster than my laptop witch is sad
mines is on its way as you can tell from my sig
but before getting it... i recommend trying it out in the store first
it is kinda heavy feeling (good way) like the nexus s
but its all user preference dont buy it just because people on a forum say its good...
**G2x gets gingerbread mid summer*** (june)
Thanks man, I appreciate the quick response! You make some good points. I'll most likely be going to T-Mobile on Monday or Tuesday to try it out and compare to my Nexus S. It certainly looks like an awesome phone either way so I hope you enjoy yours! The dual core goodness and 4G will most likely be the top selling points if I do dive in.

no problem man!
if your still wanting to see what it can do just google "G2x reviews" they got some staggering stats/benchmarks already up plus you can see a little more of the functionality i didnt describe!
I have both, but my Nexus S is now for sale. The G2x blows it away in every area except black levels and form factor. I thought by looking at GPU benchmarks that it would only be marginally faster...I was wrong. It puts the Nexus S to shame. Apps load dramatically faster, web browsing is much faster and smoother, the whole user experience is just better. This phone far exceeds my expectations. I prefer the display to samoled and the battery life is up there with the Nexus S.
Even though I'm an update junkie (one of those guys obsessively hitting refresh on XDA when I catch wind of an OTA), I'm willing to give up 2.3.3 for the faster hardware. It just really is that much better.
If you would like me to perform any specific comparisons let me know.

Not just work - This has been the case for a long time. The phone will work on either carrier's 3G/4G networks, which is a first I believe.
Anyway, from what I've been reading, the G2x blows away even the original O2x - I saw a run of Quadrant where the planet and moon graphics test was pumping 100-120FPS!
G2X. Period. I sell high end mobile phones for a living and I've owned a Vibrant, a Nexus S now and soon to be G2X. I got to play with the G2X at work for about 5 hours and its an amazing device. Just like others said, the screen, 1080p, hdmi etc...My nexus will be promptly going on craigslist with 0 regrets.

Wow thanks for all the informative posts! I hadn't expected such a quick and diverse response. I posted the same thread on the Nexus S forum with 0 responses. The nexus S forum is not a nice place to be, over zealous moderators and crazy noob users that argue over anything... And of course all of them are anti dev because they think they have the best OS ever...
Its a great OS but i do like to interchange between Sense and MIUI as well
JD
I will be getting G2x.
I also have NS, and the black level on NS is nowhere to match (unlimited contrast), but the black level on G2x is still pretty good and the viewing angle is good as MT4 (no defect unit) and GTab.
The only concern is the calling quality. LG phones are weak on this category if you ask me. Calling quality on NS is good (especially speakerphone). It's still a phone after all.
I've had my Nexus S for about 2 weeks and I've been trying to not want to get the G2X, but I'm slowly getting swayed. I paid cash for my phone from Best Buy, so I think they'd have to send me a check in the mail with my money. Until then, I'd have no phone. So, that's what will probably hold me back from getting one.

The waiting is it worth, and it would be max. one week.. You won't regret it
G2x all the way
i too have a NS. Really considering moving to the G2X. The pros outweigh the cons tremendously in my opinion. Quick updates and black levels are the only things the NS has over the G2X. We just got 4G here in Nashville also so im chomping at the bit to get the speeds that i'm already paying for.

You are correct in that it will be "up there" with updates...sooner than phones that need to have custom UIs modified by companies like HTC, Samsung, and *cringe* Motorola. However, there is an important distinction to be made...Nexus S updates come straight from Google, whereas G2x updates come from T-Mobile which causes a notable delay. Nexus S clearly wins in this department.

Does anyone here actually like the Galaxy Nexus?

I just used one for a while, I do not like it. It is too large.
If the Nexus S4G had the internals of the Galaxy Nexus I would keep it forever. It looks like I will be keeping it for a while longer, I don't really see any other viable options at this point.
Discuss.
I actually like it. I have big hands so it feels good to me.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda premium
Well you'll be waiting a longtime for that amazing phone with a smaller screen than what's been coming out. In case you are blind to trends, every new top of the line phone that's been coming out for the last few years, the screen size gets bigger and bigger. But don't worry, you'll fit in with the rest of the grandparents who don't stay up with the times lol. btw when I say "you" its just generally speaking for all the other people who are waiting for the next bad ass phone with a tiny screen.
Sent from my Nexus S 4g using xda premium
I have tiny hands (only 5'6") and while I agree the SGN is large it isn't unmanageable. That coupled with just how awesome this device is I would urge people not to pass it up as being too large without trying it in store first. It really is an epic device

I had the Evo, and I thought that was even too large. For me, 4" is the sweet spot for phones.
I'm well aware of recent trends, just stating personal preference.

Nothing wrong with personal preference lol. I'm fond of our current screen size too but I'm up for change unlike a lot of people here who refuse or totally **** talk a phone because of the screen size and ***** how its garbage and going to wait for the next best phone (which will just be bigger than the last lol) I think the current phones out now will be the standard size for screens 4in to 5.x in. Any larger than 6in is just not that practical.
Sent from my Nexus S 4g using xda premium
Why, hell yeah I do. Sure it's ****huge, but I can deal with it. If I had the money, I would've bought it instantly, so I'm just gonna get the next phone once it is out.
But with that said, it's completely understandable if it's too big for most people.
But now that we run ICS, I'm still completely satisfied with this Nexus S.
I tend to agree. In my opinion the form factor of the nexus s is close to perfect. If the galaxy nexus was exactly the same bit instead with a 4 in screen it would be absolutely perfect.
tapa tapa tapa
+1 to what mrhaxx1 said. ICS works very well on my Nexus S. Realistically, I can't justify forking out another $600 or more for a Galaxy Nexus right now, so the NS will do me for the foreseeable future.
As for the size of the Galaxy Nexus, although there is a sizeable minority that agrees with the OP that it's too big, for most people the added screen real estate and resolution compensate for the inconvenience when using it one-handed. I'd love a GN if I could afford one, the size wouldn't bother me although I don't have very large hands.
Whilst it's nice and powerful, I've used one for a bit in a shop and I must say I wasn't really that impressed. Maybe it was a faulty model but it was pretty laggy, and I was shocked at how dull and muddy the screen was. Nice res so it's pretty sharp, but I found that my TFT Blade was actually brighter than the Galaxy on full brightness, never mind my S-LCD Nexus S...
I have a tablet, so I typically use that for my more Internet-intensive activities. My issue isn't with how it feels in my hand, but how it feels in my pocket. The Nexus S is perfect for what I typically use my phone for, which is checking scores, phone calls, and SMS.
I have an epic touch and I like it alot. But I love a galaxy nexus. Like more than any phone ever made kind of love. Like I might move everybody to Verizon and pay 1000 dollars kind of love.

I like Galaxy Nexus very much but it's too expensive.
So my solution is Nexus S + ICS 4.0.3
I think it's too big but i will buy it if it comes to Sprint.
Has anyone who has actually seen and used the phone noticed that even with the elongated screen and on-screen soft keys, that there is still enough room below the screen for Nexus-S type soft keys?

I love that phone. I can't wait for sprint to get it. Alot of people are mad at things with the phone. At the end of the day I dont think Google wants it to he a nexus vs iPhone battle. Its Android as a whole. That's why I think the camera isnt a big deal. Remember the nexus are developers phones. I don't feel they are for doing battle with iPhone. While the camera lacks a bit its a easy trade for knowing we will get updates fast.

Really, this isn't a solid argument for the Galaxy Nexus over the iPhone.
Haven't played with one, but after reading some reviews, I'm disappointed in the camera. Indoor pictures aren't that great and while most phones are using 8mp, GN is still stuck at 5mp, why is that?
So far ICS is working fine on the NS4G and who knows when Sprint will get it. So, I may just wait til the next Nexus to come out (hopefully it'll come out exclusively to Sprint first, longshot though).

Mega pixel have nothing to do with a cameras performance. The epic has a 5mp camera and the HTC evo has an 8 and the pics looked and came out so much better on the epic. Its all in the optics used for the camera.

Farewell One S Users !

Hey guys, Just letting you all know I will be ditching the One S tomorrow... I've got the Galaxy Note.
I know your thinking ''WTF?!?!?!'' But i had so many issues with the One S (signal related) it was driving me mad, I was offered the S3 (at a hefty price) or the Note, for free, So I took it.
When I first saw the Note I thought ''OMG Thats Hideous, Its waaaay too big'' But the more I saw it, the more I liked it !
My other contract is up soon so I will get the SGS3 then.
So thanks to every one who helped me since day one, I will be moving on to the Note forums as of tomorrow
I will still keep my Help Thread updated as much as possible, And will continue to help as and when I can.
Take care & good bye

hey azzledazzle,
i really appreciated the way you where getting on top of the issue with the virtual button mess, really liked your input. i counted you in for one who's pushing the issue further with HTC.
So, i find it a bit hard that you "gave up" on it but totally understandable on the other side. My One S is literally doing my head in (wife threw it at me in anger) with that perfectly unusable state its in. It sits there, playing with its screen and buttons just like its gotten its own mind but i cant make it do anything else most of the time.
So if it was like that for you, i can only repeat myself: i do understand. Still i find it a bit sad.
my opinion on the note: am working on it for my brother and i find it disappointing. Samsungs surface is stupid, KIES is like having one leg amputated, cant really go anywhere with that code, the phone hides anyones head while at it (just for the lolz of it), its too big. seriously.
And as a tablet, its too small. But as i said, my opinion
Good luck on your new adventures mister Azzle!
Hey mate,
Have fun with the Note, its been my primary device for 7 months now. Its a great phone. After a while its size becomes normal.
As for the comments above, i find it a perfect size, its like having a tab on you at all times. My only gripe is touchwiz, i do prefer sense.
Peace!

I can't say as I blame you. I getting pretty sick of my One S. Brilliant phone except it has next door to useless signal reception. It spends 3 to 4 hours a day without signal - which irritates when I know signal is good. What to replace with I dunno but this issue is likely to sicken me off HTC. Won't be the Note though as far too big for me
Galaxy nexus
Same here. After two months I am getting rid of it for Galaxy nexus $349 from the play store. We have minimal support for this device. Thanks to cm9 devs anyways.
It make no good to have powerfull phone that cannot multitask or have no completed custom ROM. And now Jelly Bean. By the time ONE S gets JB Google will announce next nexus probably this fall with KEY LIME 5.0
Better have slightly outdated hardware that prrobably will not be much noticable and have up to date software, vanilla or custom ROM with no issues.
And HTC and their delayed kernel source release. SIII released it before device was on the market. That how you get developers love.
I really wanted to love this phone, but yesterday I had a chance to exchange it for a new one in the box to see if it fixed my signal/wifi issues or get the Galaxy S3. Every smartphone I have owned has been HTC so I was nervous, but I opted for the S3 and all I can say is wow. It's an awesome phone and completely blows the One S out of the water for my needs.
I knew going into the the One S I would be making concessions on things I wanted such as an SD card slot and removable battery. Its a super sexy phone, but if you can't use it as a phone it does me no good, too many dropped/missed calls and poor wifi. I hope they do fix the signal issues for those who keep it and I'm glad some people were experiencing no problems.
HTC really needs to up their game on the next round of phones, I gave them extensive feedback online and they even called to follow up, which was nice. I told them I have owned a G1, MT3GS, G2, MT4GS and One S and enjoyed them all with the exception of the OS. I did have a seperate issue with them concerning the MT4GS and replacement parts that irritated me as well.
Best of luck to you all and thank you for all the help and resources from this forum!

Why are so many people selling their phones?

Well I just bought a One X from the MP. Should be here this week. I just noticed that there are more One X's in the MP than any other phone right now. Why is that? Are there any serious flaws with the phone? Or is everyone switching to the S3?

Clearly it's just too much phone for people to handle. That's the only explanation I can think of. It's an amazing device and is easily the best phone on the market today.

This. Lot's of ADHD too
Oh look it's pebble blue and so shiny.........
It could also be people up for an upgrade, and are content with their current phone so they take the trade, sell the phone and keep using their old one. Makes sense I suppose. If you like your phone and are willing to extend your contract you may as well take the trade and resell the phone for a 200-400 dollar(plus) payback from it. I thought about the same up until my xperia x10 started getting kinda buggy no matter what rom I had running on it [but i so so so miss that phone. oh the curves and design <\\3]. But the One X is a nice device. Plus some people prefer that ooh-look-I-have-the-best-device method. Same as people trading in their older xbox for the new slim one. To jump off topic on that, I've got a cod4 disk that works fine on my xbox [older] but on the slim it wont even detect the name of the game xD. <back on topic> I envy the "watch video while texting" feature on the SG3 but... Its not very erm... Usable in my opinion. If i'm gunna be texting someone, i wont be paying much attention to the video.
I also think that you're also seeing a very vocal minority. It's rare that forum space is dedicated to praise of a phone, or anything, really. Personally, I love this phone and have zero interest in anything else out there...if only they'd release the kernel...
It's because they are prematurely ejaculating over the pebble blue and marble white. I'll stick to my 1X.

In my experience (gone through 3 one x) there have been a bunch of problems on early devices, all three of mine have had the same connection issue, similar to what the OP has described.

I know there's the whole sim problem. Does the tape thing really fix it?

OP, I was noticing this too (mainly because I was interested in picking up a One X, so I was looking for one). I think it's a combination of people being wow'd by the GSIII, early adopters wanting to try the latest and greatest, and people that just like to switch it up all the time.
I'm not complaining, though...I picked up one off the MP last night for $375. This is after I picked up a GNex earlier this week...LOL. I've just been wow'd by the One X's that I've played with, so I figured this would be a great chance to give one a go.
Of course, I'm also planning on getting a GSIII (I had a GSII until a couple of weeks ago and loved it). After I get it, I'll probably use all 3 for a little bit and then sell the one(s) that I like the least. I'll probably keep the GNex no matter what because I really like it and I'm interested to see what JB is all about.
Poor Quality control is one of the reasons.
HTC has been releasing way too many HOX with screen rippling issues when pressed, dead pixels, creaking unibody, heat issues and etc etc. Not the best from HTC.
IF you're lucky enough to get a well made HOX then that's great but personally I ended up with a bad one. Dead pixel, creaky body, heat issues, LCD rippling :/

Stumbled on this while randomly browsing the HOX forums...awesome app!!! I probably won't use it a lot, but glad to know I can use another one of the GS3's "exclusive features" flawlessly
Just got the phone and I can see why people wanna get rid of it :/ Just kidding lol. Its awesome. First thing I did was root/unlock/blal blah blah and flashed cleanrom 3.1.1. Everythings running great Loving it so far. Cant use it on a network for another week but so far no issues at all
I got the HOX right when it came out and have had zero problems with it, personally its the best phone I've ever owned. People may be selling them because they don't want or can't unlock the bootloader.
I love the phone myself and have had to exchange it three times, but it's been worth the hassle. I am also going to pick up the new Xperia this weekend.

Yep, I've exchanged mine 4 times. I love it. Wouldn't have gone through all that trouble if I didn't.
I checked out the Xperia, it's a really slick looking phone but felt really dated once I actually turned it on. The UI was waaaay too choppy for me... and it runs Gingerbread.

Side note.. I've exchanged mine 9 times with att. The tenth one will be here next week and hopefully its the last one. Turns out my Wi-Fi repeater in my house was the cause for my sim card and wifi problems. Over driving the chip its self.

Choosing between the One S and Samsung Blaze

I've searched far and wide but it doesn't seem there are any proper comparisons between these two phones. I'd like to hear from those who have used both.
I have both phones new in front of me (ebay). The HTC one S wins in the pretty contest by a longshot. Metal body > plastic/rubber.
But on the flipside, the one S seems a bit too large (screenwise) to comfortably type with one hand and pull down the notification bar. The blaze is much easier to handle.
So besides the casing quality, is there a reason the One S is better? The audio and video sound/look roughly the same when I play youtube videos concurrently. Will I get used to the slippery tall body? Will a giztronic case help with the hand-hold, or does that just make it wider?
After rooting/romming, the blaze has reported to last 1.5 days on battery. I've heard the one s is better, but how much?
Thanks!
EDIT: made thread title duller.
I'd like to say one thing based on your title "Convince me to keep the One S over the samsung Blaze". It's not a sales job. If you don't want the One S, then you are free to choose so. It's not like we care if you get it or not.
HTC > Samsung when it comes to material/design.
Watch reviews on both phones. If you ask about a One S in the One S forum, of course people will tell you to get it.
Overall, you choose. Not our job to convince you.

No need for the negativity.
I'm asking for comparison opinions. And yes I can read that this is a One S forum, that's why I posted here.

Not being negative. Trying to show you that your title throws people off. If you reworded it as "Help choosing between a One S or Samsung Blaze", then that would be another story. Saying "Convince me" makes you seem entitled and that we should care whether you stay or leave.
The processor on the one s is also better, screen us higher res and the camera is better. U am not sure if the blaze runs ics but one s should have ics and hopefully soon jelyly hean.

The One S got both ICS and JB, its had ICS for a very long time. JB is still quite new though.
Then we got AOSP roms which brings it up to JB 4.2 if you want.
As for the OP's question... Im not even gonna bother answering that, its just pointless.
Buy whatever you want - no one can tell you what to buy. And since this is the S forum, obviously the majority of us favors the S over any other device.
If you are buying htc one s be careful and buy S4 version of it.
I thought the same thing about the screen and one hand with the One S. After like a week or two, it feels perfect. Not big at all, and very comfortable to type on 1 hand. No issues pulling notification bar down either.
If I were you, I'd go with the One S.
That's my 2 cents.

After using the one s a couple days, I agree. I'm keeping the one s.
What did it in for me was the sound quality with headphones.
The blaze has the mediocre speaker and headphone quality I've come to accept from smartphones. The One S's speaker is only marginally better, but with headphones... fantastic! I get no background static or "white noise" with my high quality IEMs. I can use Tune-in, Pandora, etc.. over my MP3 player without a trade off in sound quality.
That was the kind of answer I was looking for. Thanks Syntax for playing along with my "pointless" thread.
EDIT: One knock on the One S, the screen is much more vulnerable to small scratches from phantom sources. My phone went from mint to well used in only a couple hours of using my finger.
do you have sand paper for fingers?
I have maybe 3 very minor scratches that you can only see with the screen off and turning the phone to try and find them, and i've owned it over 5 months without a screen protector...
I had the same choice with T-Mobile and I would be lost without my One S... Much better phone
Go buy a zagg screen protector and you wont have to worry about scratches or anything within reason messing up your screen.:good:
and this is not a pointless thread, its a valid question
