i know theres a big difference between AMOLED and super LCD, but if there a way to switch to this mode to save battery i would use it all the time.
Someone mentioned that blacks use less power on the captivate screen. Is this true?
Black does use less battery, as it basically turns those pixels off, and the displace does use most of the battery life.
I personally have had ever increasing battery life, and I have never had trouble getting a full 24 hours. Be sure to run down the batter to 0% and charge up without it being powered on. Continue to experiment and it will more than likely improve over time.

I'm not quite sure why you're mentioned super LCD. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Nexus One has an AMOLED screen. We have Super AMOLED screens on the Captivate. Of the COLORS, yes red drains battery the least (it's also the one that affects your night vision the least, bonus trivia). But black drains even less, since, with SAMOLED, it just means the pixels are "off"
If you want to save battery life, make your background all black and hit the sleep button every time you set your phone down.
Disable GPS off you dont need it.
Turn off Wifi off you dont need it.
Turn the auto brightness adjust off. Control it manually.
Keep track of running background programs.
Dont use live wall paper or bright colored backgrounds. just use the plain black.

Just flash your phone to the JH2 firmware!! I used to get 9 to 10 hours max out of this battery, now it lasts so much longer with a good amount of use. Last night it went almost 17 hours before I charged it and it still had like 3% left.

The JH2 firmware makes your screen consume less battery because the auto adjust brightness is lower than before.

Sorry meant to write super AMOLED. I have been using a all black background and put the brightness all the way down. I would just like to have the red pixel option. I would like to switch to that to squeeze out more battery like in times when i really could care less how my display looks. And having a black background wont matter when im pulling up stuff that has colors in it and you cant see the background. im probably being nuts and for 90% of people this is going overboard, but id like to at least have the option.

I love you, this is friggin awesome.
I've been on JH2, im thinkin about giving bugless beast a try.
So no chance of having this feature on the captivate? (the red pixels)
and also just to make sure the pixels are "off" i just made an all black background in paint. Is there a big difference if i switch to one of the stock wallpapers that is mostly black? Or is all black a lot better?
in case anyone wants it, this is a wallpaper i've been using, i borrowed from someone on the MT3G forum almost a year ago, he put it up for others for this very reason - power savings with some visual whatever you want to call it

You only need to let the battery run down to zero once (maybe twice) to help calibrate the battery sensor (some people do not even believe it needs to be done once). Anyway, if you do it to much then it could lessen the lifespan of your battery because long charges heat the battery more, and heat powns the **** outta li-ion batterys.

got a question about that background and others like it.. I know black is supposed to use none, and red uses less, but wouldn't total black use MUCH less power than a shade lighter?
For example: a screen that is completely black is almost the same as the phone screen being off, as opposed to a slightly lighter screen which every pixel is turned on.
Right now my home screen has no icons on it and i have a completely black background. Am i going overboard? lol
Lithium Ion batteries will degrade much faster when deep discharged. Its a non reversable chemical reaction. That being said; the more often you charge and the less you let the battery drain down the better battery life you will have in the future.

um i been running pandora with the screen on and the brightness all the way up for about 5 hours in an effort to run my battery to zero (once)
should i stop now? im at 7%
I have let mine run down to 0% about 3 times. It always says I have over 20% after plugging it in for very little time. Kinda annoying.

Whenever I get a new device, or replace a battery, I always do at least 3 to 5 full power cycles to set the gague and burn in the battery. After that, it is best if you can keep it above 20%, but with smartphones and their owners being what they are these days, that can be next to impossible. Just do the initial drain and charge a couple times and then keep it charged when you can and try not to worry too much about the battery life. Most likely, you'll still have 80% when it's time to switch phones. Or you can buy a replacement fairly cheap. Heck, Samsung is directly selling a replacement batter with a desk charger for about $50. I'm sure you could find a cheaper battery by itself somewhere.

Good.i always thought the main reason I was getting poor battery life was because the galaxy auto brightness setting was way too high.

haha yea i had a feeling, id still like to know though. Ive toned down the insanity a bit, but in times when i really need to squeeze every bit out of the battery id like to know.
Also, ive found that when i lower the brightness to the lowest setting it somehow creeps back up a bit. Is there a way to disable the swipe feature to control brightness? i think i must be changing the brightness when i pull the bar down or something.

Wouldn;t that mean to get any function from your phone, you have to go to a different screen? Might as well take function, over a probably minor gain in battery life.
So I get home from work this morning, pull my Inspire out of my pocket, and it's dead; no lock screen when I push the top button, nothing but black screen. Kinda strange, since I had just been using the phone a few minutes before while I ate breakfast before a 5 min drive home; it still had 22% charge right before I left. I put it on the charger.... nothing. Black screen, no amber light. I let it sit for about 15 minutes, still nothing. I drop it back in my pocket and put my shoes back on, about to head back out to the AT&T Store to exchange it, when I hear R2D2 in my pocket (I'm running LeeDoids ROM). Sure enough, it's booting.... wtf?
It's plugged up and charging right now, which kinda sucks in a way, because I was looking forward to exchanging it for a new one; my battery life sucks in it, worse than it should as far as I can tell with reading up on all the threads here. I'm trying to be very conservative with the settings lately in an effort to stretch battery life, with limited results. I've turned off auto-sync, installed Juice Defender, I turn off the wifi & bluetooth while I'm at work, running the display at 40%, but I'm still running the battery down damn quick if I actually use the device. Earlier this week, it ran itself down to <15% battery in just a few hours just sitting in my pocket, and I wasn't even using it; the only thing I could figure was that the auto-sync was on at the time and it had connection problems where I was in the hospital, making the phone burn up the battery trying to get a connection. When I looked at my battery info, the overwhelming majority of the battery use was for Android System. Now with auto-sync off, the display eats about twice as much of the battery as the system does.
I'm thinking of taking it back anyway if it acts up again. Has anyone else had one that just simply ate battery at a huge rate? LeeDroids ROM has a reputation of being pretty easy on the battery, but right now I'd have to say I'm worse on the battery than I was when it was stock. I'll probably try out a different ROM later today, just to check things.

I'm gonna reflash the ROM and see how it works before I try another one. I'll make sure I'm not overclocked too much, but others with LeeDroids ROM are getting good battery life with overclocking. The two big symptoms I'm looking at right now are heavier than expected battery drain, and the total lock up it had where it wouldn't even show a charging light.

Hey Smitty, I know it's been over a week but have you had better luck with your battery usage?
Also with regards to your unresponsive power issue. Given the size of this handset I've found it difficult to keep it in a pocket. I'd bet that the battery door wasn't connected good or got separated slightly in your pocket, probably getting in & out of your car. It doesn't look like it would take much to separate the contacts in there leaving you with what seemed like a dead phone.
I did a complete wipe and ROM switch... installed dilligafs, and I had much better performance. Using MIUI now, still getting good battery performance. I might have had a bad ROM install before or maybe I left a location using app running. As far as the strange black screen issue, I never did figure out what that was about; the phone was in a Otterbox case, and the battery cover was on tight, so I don't know what happened. It hasn't repeated itself, at least.
One thing I miss about the iPhone was the ability to set up a periodic sync, instead of an auto-sync like we have on Android. Auto-sync is either on or off, and when it's off I can't figure out how to get gmail to sync any way other than a manual sync. I could easily live with syncing every 15 or even 30 mins, and I'm sure it would give me much better battery life. Juice Defender claims to do this for you, but it doesn't work in Gingerbread it seems.
I looked around in the forum for this but didn't find anything conclusive.
Does Render Effects in Cyanogen actually saves battery to be worth using it? And what effect is best for battery?
Thanks
here http://bit.ly/yBWESi
Well red and black use the least amount of power on amoled's. So if you want to use a render effect with the intent on save the most amount of power, I would say "NIGHT MODE"
Does it help a lot? Well I used the Green settings and it did improve battery since colors are being displayed in the led. Since the color tones are shortened the display won't eat as much battery, AND since this is AMOLED But don't expect to use your phone with regular use and expect magic, you might get as little as 30 min more but I am just saying THINK WITH YOUR BRAIN WHEN YOU TEST.
There have been tests done that show red as being the most beneficial.
read this if your in to other ways to try and save battery using this screen http://androidforums.com/android-lo...ave-amoled-screens-switching-dark-themes.html
I`ve read that red was the best one to save battery, i actually wanted to know how much time i would get using it, I guess 30 min is not worth it for daily use...
Well its 20%.
So it depends on your useage. I use the GPS nonstop and that gave me 30 min. Not bad. Could be more for you depending on how you use your phone.

It does save battery but the effect are negligible. The good thing about using the RenderFX "night" effect (or similar) is mostly to help eye strain in low light situation.
Does anyone have any idea why my screen is always listed at 72% on the usage acreen? From what I have seen others are at around 40-50%.
This happens even when I have brightness lowered to 20% (and following several power cycles) so I am perplexed. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks. (Edit: 72%, not 78.)

What is your screen in time?
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA Premium HD app
Thanks for the quick reply. This happens from the moment I am done charging, even after the phone has been powered down. Right now I am at around 7hrs on from dead, maybe 2hrs screen time.
Funny thing is there seems to be no variance (whether I put brightness up to 100 or down to 10), which leads me to think the reading may be inaccurate.
My soft key lights do stay on all the time, unless I am in the full sun or put the phone up to a bright light, but apparently that is normal.
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
Just an update in case anyone else had the same issue: after about 24 hours at low brightness without a reboot, the phone finally seems to he reporting the correct brightness on the usage chart.
It's strange and I don't know what caused it to finally act normal. Just glad I don't have to consider an exchange.

Just to be clear... You meant battery, not memory. Right?
Yes, right! Battery, not memory, usage. Thanks.
As the pioneer batch of HTC One XLs approaching one year, I'm wondering how is the battery life after one year compared to a brand new set.
Since the battery is not easily replaceable, I'm considering sending in during warranty and ask for HTC One X+ battery replacement with charge.
Thanks in advance for sharing!
I haven't noticed any drop in battery life after one year. I have a release model (May 2012), so its over a year old now. Still getting over 48 hours on a single charge, with low usage (on WiFi when at home, usually not otherwise). Actually seems a bit better than at release, due to better power management by newer firmware; and/or better radio software.
This is my forth Android device (mix of phones/tablets), with some of them being used until they were almost 2 years old, and I haven't noticed any significant battery degradation on any of them.
What I have noticed (just anecdotally) is that there seems to be a bit higher incidence lately of post here by folks whose One X's have had a sudden power drop/power off, and the phone sometimes (but not always) coming back afterwards after being charged.
Hey!
I have some experience with this.
A few months ago I noticed my battery wouldn't last as long, and it got really bad. I sent it to HTC a few weeks ago right before my warranty expired and they changed it with no problem. Even got it back fast. Just tell them your battery has gone bad and give them some numbers like how long you can use it each day and how long it lasts, etc.
I would go ahead and try to have it replaced anyway, cause once your warranty expires you have to pay to get it replaced. Better safe than sorry, imo.
Warranty is for actual problems, not made-up hypothetical ones.
Exchanging a phone because you were actually suffering a battery issue is one thing. Exchanging it because you "might have an issue in the future", is very much different.
I started to notice I need to charge twice a day more often than before with similar use pattern. Though I can't say is the battery really bad now.
Anyway, I'm willing to pay charge for replacement of a HTC One X+ battery.

My battery life took a nose dive after we got Jellybean on our phones.
I've tried a bunch of different ROMs and kernels but ultimately none of it helped. Battery saving tips and tricks, LTE off, lowering screen auto-brightness thresholds (or turning off auto-brightness altogether). All kinds of witch doctor-y battery (re)calibration methods. Nothing has really worked for me. Greenifying almost everything I can possibly kill without "breaking" anything on the phone.
Standby times are just "ok", nothing like I used to get. I get a ton of wakelocks from "android os", "kernel", "google services"...so BBS and GSAM logs ultimately don't tell me anything useful. Other obscure kernel wakelocks I can find very little information about even on XDA.
Battery drain is extreme whenever I have the screen on doing "light" tasks, texting, browsing the web/FB, chatting. Nothing heavy but I can see my battery % falling like I rock. On a good day I can get maybe 1.5-2 hours of screen time before my battery is almost dead.
Not sure what to do but I'm convinced there's something physically wrong with my phone/battery.

After more then 1 year of use, I don't see any loss on the battery life. I must even say, with the recent android 4.2.2 and 4.3 ROM running the 3.4.+ kernel, the battery life as been extended greatly (Which is really impressive).
That said, before working with those ROM, the best experience i had on battery life was with ViperXL on Elemental Kernel.
Battery life has been very good after i installed the sense 5 ROMS. kickdriod and the new cleanstrip ROMs are nice balance of battery and performance. cleanstrip in particular is looking very good with all working features even BLuetooth.
