As you may know, there is no touchpad support on FPse unless we are on ICS. So I e-mailed to Schtruck and asked about porting it to GB:
"Hello. Could you make an update with support for Xperia PLAY touchpad but for GingerBread? Xperia PLAY officially won't get ICS at all so touchpad support on GB would be great!"
This is what I received:
"this update would mean a specific version for Xperia Play on GB. huge work because the Java part is big regarding all option for FPse. i can study a port."
I don't really understand this reply... What do you think? New update = new specific app exclusive to Xperia PLAY?

His reply implies that he'll look into it and assess the time/practicality ratio.
He's at least considering it so I suppose that's good news
The way I read it:

(My background understanding to Android programming: The Xperia PLAY's dual touchpads requires coding in C/C++ via Android NDK, and when using it, the normal Android programming libraries, which is in JAVA, cannot be used.)
"... This will be a lot of work because FPse was written in JAVA and also relied heavily on the Android programming libraries; to support the touchpads will require NDK, which in turn messes up many other functions that depends on the Android programming libraries.
I can review the FPse project to see if it's really that bad, and see if there are work-arounds."

... but all that work for a few hundred Xperia PLAY sales? I think very unlikely.
Well remember the awesome paulscode released a n64 emu with touch pad support. So this could be possible.
Sent from my R800i using xda premium
it would be quite hard i think, because it is so much easier that ics has built in drivers for mouse/pointing devices like our touchpads, he would probably need to do reverse engineering or somthing like that for gingerbread
I'll pay £5.99 for a touch pads version. Someone suggest to him he starts a Kickstarter for the project. Would love to have FPS and Ape Escape etc
Sent from my R800i using XDA
Mupen 64 (paulscode n64 emu) is open source, so he can "steal" the touchpad implementation from there.
And if Paul can do it on a free app I'm sure schtruck can do it for a paid one
Though with the newest update coming any moment now that brings shortcuts with individual settings I can forgive the lacking touchpad support
Has someone told him he can just take it from Mupen? :-O :-D

Ok here goes I emailed fpse this
" Hi As a gamer with xperia play and as fpse is my most used app I follow the support of xperia play analogs very closely. I read an email you sent to an xda member saying you would look into it. I understand why it's easier to implement on ics.
I would like to point you towards mupen64 by Paul lamb a N64 emulator famous for using the analog, I would also like to point out how accurate it emulates the N64 stick. With mupen64 ae being open source then the coding is all done and I assume leaves very little work.
An xperia play version would be very popular as owner are almost guaranteed to buy your app.
Kindest wishes Dave

i'll try to make near same thing to implement AnalogPAD on Xperia Play with android 2.3.

I use fpse on ICS(KA13) & it works good. I know touchpads are not working anywhere on ICS in regular games, but then again I also have N64oid & touchpads are working within that emulator. I wonder if FPSE could also have it working in ICS?

Seriously though, some developers just don't see the potential..
It's not about not seeing the potential. It's about the fact that it would lock his emulator out of running on older OS versions, thus killing off much of his market.
thn why does niot anyone build a version of mupen64plus AE with analog support? mupen is after the latest realease useable....

That's no excuse. Release 2 versions, one for xplay and one for non xplay. It's really not much extra work, and it would make so many people much happier. Plus, if other emulators release this feature, it would be one hell of a reason to choose the other one over this one. Not the mention this is the single handedly best phone for emulators such as this one.
Clearly, you haven't developed anything in your life.
Doesn't sony ericsson basically give you the code to paste into your application? You're right, I've never developed on android, but others on this forum make it sound like it's not a hard thing to do.

+1 Thats the main reason he will never add analogue support. But if he wouldnt of messed up with the GPL in the first place and got his developer account banned. This wouldnt be a problem. As the google market api now allows for multiple .apk's to be uploaded under one listing.

The original topic about PPSSPP emulator
:fingers-crossed: wooohoooo
I sold my PSP few months back and today, I was planning to delete all my iso/cso, but before hitting delete, I juz searched on google that is there any emulator for android and Bingo!
Now I ll preserve all my PSP games
God OF War on My Note 2.... :fingers-crossed: Ecstasy
Seems to me that a possible psp emulator is that exciting. Even though it will never work on the play.
Is it possible to make the original thread a sticky?
Hows the keypad support?
Needs a lot of work but good start, God speed sir
January 4, 2012: PPSSPP 0.5: A small step for mankind, a huge step for PPSSPP!
i've been following the website since it started and after months of waiting finally 3D games are playable
looks like in a few months more we'll have a greater list of coole psp games
Incredible!
If lumines works perfect, I will pay for this emulator, I dont expect that Xperia Play will run all psp games (I dont need that because I prefer PSX games), but Lumines, maybe all Loco Roco games will be great news!

I only have a homebrew game, a beatmania emulator called jzbmsplayer. Does it work on my HTC EVO 4G (supersonic)? I mean there is no 3D elements but still does it run pretty good or it's slow? I am willing to use my BT keyboard as a controller for IIDX.
EDIT: Runs good with my 1.5Ghz Dual-Core Zeki Tablet running beaterator. Now I can make remixes lol.

It actually looks legit.
"We cannot tell you where to get games, but inside the app you'll find some help!"
I actually LOL-ed. Surely they don't condone piracy do they?
Anyway, please anyone with Xperia Play would you kindly share your experience with the emulator?
I am especially curious about people with stock ROM and NO overclock, just your standard Xperia Play (which I happen to have). Does it support hardware buttons? Thanks.
Its based on the sources from mupen64 ae+ and as this is licensed under the GPL the features of this emulator will also be in the next release of mupen. So unless the dev screwed up it will support buttons and touchpad. Buy this app if you'd like to support him.
Mupen sucks. Has always been slow.

If this emulator is based entirely on mupen, it is almost guaranteed to be slow...it doesn't even work properly on computers, I personally hate that emulator. Unless someone creates/editys an amazing dynarec recompiler like youngzh. There is no way i see this emulator as being able to move full speed on xperia play devices...
Also, on a side note, why does no one include sound compression in emulators like these. Sound compression goes a long way in increasing emulation speed. Just burns me every time the option isn't included in emulators. :/

For those who can't download it I would still download it on a different phone just so you won't have to pay if they put a price on it again. Even if you don't want it on that phone just delete it.
I downloaded in my Tablet meanwhile wait to be able to install in Play
I swear they have something against Sony devices because it`s not compatible with my Sony Xperia Tablet Z neither.
What bugs me the most though is that it does work, there are alternate downloads around and they work great, but I want the official one that I paid for.

It is because how gameloft make games. To be compatible with lot of different phones they implement code for controls from previous games in early stage of development, but when make final product, they decide not be compatible with specific device because of hardware requirements.
They could make game downloadable from play store, but then they risk lot of 1 star comments like "zomg, game is soooooo laggy in my Xperia Play"

Its not all lost.
We have a new PS3/X-Box 360 game just ported to the Xperia Play today -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2576702
Its Rockstar and the 3rd party dev (War drum studios) that ported it that is the issue here. If they had any care in the world for Android (IOS Fanboys) this game would have been made better and for more devices. Take alook at the market listing, it seams it does not work on any device even if they are modern at the momment.

It's getting one star reviews because it's crashing for some people. They've already patched it once today but it needs another. It's going to be the best game ever once they get passed this latest issue.
The Google Play version lists Android 3.0 as the minimum requirement but the Amazon listing says Android 2.3 which is most likely due to it needing to be compatible with the kindle fire. Because even angry bird go needs more ram (1gb)
I will try swap soon too
