nandroid backup fails - HTC Sensation

Hi,
Ive got dev root and s-off on my htc sensation.
When I try to do a nandroid backup from cwm touch recovery it always fails on the system folder. I tried restoring my old backup and that fails too.
Any ideas what the problem is and or how i can fix it?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Try using 4ext recovery

thanks
Excellent, thanks. 4ext actually tells you why its failed. Problem solved.

nandroid backup failiure

I did a Nandroid backup before flashing a custom ROM. ROM installed successfully, but upon reinstalling my backup through CMW, it fails. What am I doing wrong, and any help or guidance would be appreciated. Thanks.

[Q] rebooting from recovery

my one s recently developed a strange issue, where if i try to run a nandroid backup, it will mostly finish, then reboot itself without fully completing the process, leaving me with a bunk backup and stuck on one rom for now. also, and the more important of my 2 concerns, is that i don't know if it will do this during a rom flash, nor do i want to find out, seeing as i have no current working backup. doe's anyone have any ideas as to how i could fix this?

At a guess you got a high Hboot so that means when you restore its not restoring the boot.img. You need to flash that in fastboot.

nope, i have hboot 1.06, and either way that wouldn't, and shouldn't, cause a nandroid to fail during backup, nor for the phone to reboot by itself.

Oh if you mean you cant make a backup try a newer recovery or if its already up to date try an old one.
Edit, just to add I use TWRP 2.2.2.0 and it works fine.

Not sure then sorry.
Do you have enough free space on your sdcard partition?
You can also try (un?)mounting /data and /system before you start the backup.
Just as an update, I solved my problem. It seems that there were some corrupted files on my data partition, and they were causing nandroid to fail and reboot randomly. So, since I was planning on wiping anyway, I wiped and set up viper again, and successfully made a nandroid after.

[Q] clockwork mod recovery md5 mistach/error while restoring data/system

I always have used clockwork mod to flash roms and backup and restore my roms so I have a fair amount of backups and my stock rooted back up also is on clockwork mod. I wanted to see if i liked TWRP recovery so I flashed it and used it a little bit made one back up of king kang rom and then went back to clockwork mod. After I did that I tried to use clockwork again and all of my backups which I had made will not restore. Some of them have the message "md5 mismatch" others say "error restoring system" and other say "error restoring data". before this happened i had never had a single problem restoring any of my backups and I have at least 10 backups of mostly different roms which I have restored successfully before. I'm just trying to find out if there's a solution to my problem to get my backups to restore again. Appreciate any and all advice or suggestions.
I know if you rename the backups that will cause the md5 error. Maybe you should try deleting the twrp backup and any files or folders that go with twrp. Not sure if this will do the trick but its worth a shot. Hope you figure it out good luck.

[Q] CWM didn't restore, stuck at splash

Hi,
So I used the Revolutionary method to s-off and root my phone - this was successful. I then made a full backup using Titanium and a few other things like SMS and contact backups, which are on my laptop now.
I then installed SVHD v1.7.4 using Clockworkmod v4.0.1.4. It ran fine, but try as I might I couldn't load my contacts and SMS back into it. So I tried to restore is back to the stock rom by going into Clockwork's Recovery, wiping cache, data and system.
When I tried to restore to a previous point, it gave me an error message saying system.img, data.img and so on not found, so all restore has been skipped. Now I'm stuck at the 3 splash screen. I can still get into the bootloader though, and can potentially install SVHD again as it's still on the SD card.
A quick search through the forums shows users with similar problems from 2012, but I'm afraid of buggering up my phone further so I'm hoping someone could be so kind as to walk me through what I need to do.

if you haven`t, then there is nothing to restore...
system ( the whole nand image ) could only be restored,
when it was previously been written...
try to mount sd card- while in recovery,
and look for: Clockworkmod/backups/.....

Ah sorry, I forgot to mention. Yes, I have two backups in CWM. Neither of which seem to work.

have you been changing recovery version lattely?
what i mean is: if you have, then try to revert back
to the version you used to create nandroid with,
and if you haven`t, then try to grab 4ext recovery-
possibly newest release you can put your hands on,
and try to restore nandroid from there...
...there is also a tool called:
< CWM2update.zip.creator > by @ss429842,
that may partly be a cure for your trouble- perhaps....

I don't think I've changed the recovery version, no. But I clearly did something very wrong. I couldn't access my SD card as it's internal and I was afraid I was stuck.
What I've done instead is find the SVHD zip file and installed that. Hopefully this will work and I can at least turn my phone on and proceed from there. It sucks being a noob!

Nandroid restore issue on S4 i9500 after xposed framework

Hi,
This is my first post on XDA, so please forgive if i miss some of the things !! So i will start with the issue i am facing. I was running Prism Barebone v14.6 on my S4 i9500, i was trying to install the Xposed Framewrok for Lollipop but somehow i missed the part where it said that "Xposed it not yet working for Samsung TW roms and you will end up in bootloop if you flash it".
So as expected i ended up in bootloop, so i tried to restore my Nandroid backup from Philz recovery. Everything went just fine in the recovery but i was again stuck in bootloop and my phone was not proceeding from Samsung logo loading screen. So i flashed the PB rom again and restored my apps and data with Titanium Backup.
Since then i am having strange issue that for some reason i am not able to restore my Nand backups even after creating the fresh nandroid backups. I was creating the Nandroid backup using "Online nandroid backup" tool; so i thought maybe the issue could be with this app(though it worked just fine on my previous rom Omega v27).
So finally i thought of creating the Nandroid backup from PhilZ recovery and the weird thing was nandroid backup creation failed at "/system" saying "Error backing up /system".
So please guys help me understand what exactly went wrong and how can i fix this. I am facing this issue from last 2 days and i have tried everything which could think of, so i need help from you Android Gurus out here !!!
Thanks in advance !!

Have you tried TWRP ? PhilZ development has been stopped, so you should think about switching someday.
I would do it like this:
-Make a nadroid backup with your custom recovery
-Perform a full wipe
-Flash latest stock firmware via ODIN
-Let the system boot up
-Flash custom recovery and check if the error persists
tried TWRP as well however i was still getting the same issue(boot up process getting stuck at samsung logo screen). Will flashing the Stock Firmware reset the recovery also to Stock recovery ?
Can anyone please reply !!

Yup, stock firmware will restore everything. Flash it as i linked it earlier. Once done, perform a factory reset in stock recovery before you boot up android.
