Just thought I share this with everyone. While fiddling with my Tab tonight, I accidentally clicked on Samsung's AllShare app I previously installed, but never tried.
To my surprise, the app quickly went into discovery mode and a "WDTV live" popped up among the list of supported devices. Since I was just watching a movie on my WDTV live I was first completely puzzled as to how the heck Tab found it and just for the kicks I made a connection with the WDTV live. It didn't require any passwords, numbers or anything - simply made the connection in a second or two.
A list of videos I had on the Tab showed up, I clicked one and voila! - the video soon went streaming from the Tab to my WDTV live and then to my projector screen!
After a few minutes I remembered I recently plugged into the WDTV live a WIFI USB dongle to be used with my keyboards. I had no idea that WDTV would be able to receive anything other than keyboard inputs through them, but turns out it does!
I didn't do a lot of testing, but it seems to work very well - had no problem at all streaming DIVX quality video from the tab and even managed to play one 720 movie as well as 1080. Both of them are heavily compressed, tough, so be warned. I also tried playing a h264 720 movie but it was just all black for a minute so I gave up. This is the same movie that Tab plays normally through movie app, so I'm guessing it's probably the WiFi transfer rate that's the bottleneck. Maybe it would work after enough of data was transfered, but as I said - I didn't wait too long. Photos and music work just fine.
So, there you have it, if you have WDTV live, a WIFI USB dongle and the need to stream from the Tab, you can do it without any problem!
You can also use twonky and stream you media to an xbox 360 or ps3 as well.

Hi,
Some of you may remember me from my "Android Kit Kat 4.4.2 on Motorola Xoom' thread. My Xoom WI-FI now has the latest ROM
4.4.2-20140207-1805+0100-wingray-HOMADE. I just loaded this version about 45 minutes ago. Earlier today I loaded the Netflix Android App
from the Google Play store. I started to play an episode of the Netflix Series House of cards. When the episode started the subtitles (captions) were enabled. So I touched the little icon on the screen and I chose no captions. Once I did that the program continued to play without any sound what so ever. So, I tried another program. I chose a Movie that I had never watched on any TV, Blu-ray player or other device.
The same phenomena occurred. Movie played with subtitles on, I turn them off and the sound stops playing. Yes, I even plugged in Headphones.
This Phenomena does not occur when i play movies through my FIREFOX browser on my PC nor does it occur on my TV or Blu-ray player.
So, I called NETFLIX tech Support. They had me try several things (like use another WIFI network in this case the WIFI hotspot on my phone) to see if the problem was related to my router.
Also, on my WIFI XOOM Tablet the playback of netflix Streaming freezes and the buffering circle spins. This may be also related to issues with the ROM and the Netflix Android app. I do have a Wireless N network and I am sitting in the room where the Router is.
None of these problems occurred with the last GOOGLE approved ROM.
The Netflix tech found my thread from January. It is possible that NETFLIX techs will be posting to this forum. So, has anyone had any issues with NETFLIX using this ROM?
Thank you in advance

I have not experienced any netflix issues with this ROM. I even use it through chromecast. I've tried what you stated and did not experience the issue.

I can confirm the behavior experienced by bigfootmd. Netflix is very sensitive and will stop playing sound. If you exit netflix and restart, sound is back. In addition, the HDMI output freezes and becomes unuseable, independent of the sound problem.
I am running 4.4.2.20140215-1029+0100-wingray-HOMEMADE
Domunus: when you play through Chromecast, your feed goes directly to the Chromecast device and does not pass through your xoom. Your xoom is simply a remote control. This is probably why you do not see the problem. When I cast, I do not see the problem either.
I've got a weird problem with my Nexus 5.
When I listen to audio (typically with BeyondPod, but also with Google Play Music and ES Media Player) the audio sometimes pauses.
After a while I have noticed a pattern. It appears that the playback pauses when the device connects to / disconnects from a WiFi network.
I have also occasionally experienced it with WiFi switched off. I haven't analysed in detail when it happens, but it appears to happen when GSM connection is acquired / lost.
Is this a 'known problem'?
Is there any known workaround?
I get this with streaming app Spotify.
I've put it down to a kernel issue, I'm using Franco kernel and some other users have mentioned it also
Used to have this problem with the Franco kernel as well. Don't have the problem anymore now, but can't explain why.
If you are streaming, then of course changes in connectivity will result in an interruption, no? I assume the problem does not occur when playing music located on the device?

True! But I should have been more specific.
This is happening when listening to music offline so they are local files.
I read an idea that the phone prioritises the switch from WiFi to Data (this is the only time when my stutter occurs, leaving the house and coming back) and so music playback stutters very briefly as a result.

Ah, that's why I asked. I seem to remember reading somewhere that when playing music with Google Play Music, the app requires connectivity even when playing local files. If that is indeed the case, then connecting/disconnecting could cause the interruption. So, I suppose the next step would be to test with a music player.
Further clarifiaction
Just to clarify further:
What I'm experiencing is not a 'stutter', but a pause. - I have to manually restart the playback.
I only listen to 'local' media - not streamed. I don't know how it reacts when streaming.
I'm using stock 4.4.2 (rooted).

As I drift out of WiFi range and into data my streaming music doesn't pause. The song loads at the beginning I assume and ends up seamless during the network transfer.

You're probably right - it must at least buffer ahead.
I am having the exact same problem as the OP. I get pauses whenever my Nexus 5 goes from wi-fi to cellular, cellular to no signal, etc. It happens with many different apps like Pocket Casts, Google Play Music, DoggCatcher, Poweramp, both streaming and local file playback. Drives me nuts, especially when I am in the car. Used to happen with my Nexus 4 too.
The ONLY fix I have come up with (I am completely stock/un-rooted) is to download podcasts or playlists and play in Airplane Mode. This completely fixes the issue, but is not practical as I have to stay offline whilst listening to audio.
Also worth noting, it doesn't happen when I am playing local video files, e.g. a video podcast. If there is anyone that can help please do as at this rate I am going to have to start carrying an iPod touch around, and I have enough gadgetry already.

Didn't think of testing Spotify offline with aeroplane mode turned on. Will try

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one experiencing this. My guess is that there must be some app that receives a notification when the connectivity changes, and for some reason pauses playback. Maybe if we can cross-reference installed apps we could find the offender?
Is there an easy way to see what apps are installed?

I used to use Tasker, but I don't any more.
I tried to use 'Autorun Manager' to see what intents are captured and by whom, but I quickly got lost...
No audio skipping/stutter when using Spotify offline mode after turning airplane mode on.
Suddenly the problem disappeared!
I was clearing out a bunch of games that the kids had installed, and then I realised that the problem was gone!
I haven't done any serious analysis to pinpoint the culprit yet, though.

I may have to try to analyse it again, as the problem reappeared suddenly this morning! I haven't installed any new software for weeks, but it could of course be part of some update.
I am trying to stream my Gear VR experience using a paid app called Screen Stream Mirroring. I can get it to stream with no problem however, any streaming I do results in a video fee that is EXTREMELY laggy, unwatchable. I'm connected to my home network, which I have zero issues with when streaming 1080 from my PC. I downloaded a seperate app to locally record what's on the screen, as soon as I start playing a game, it records it fine but as I go to watch my game through a video player app, the video is choppy. Maybe 1 frame for every 3 seconds. Same as when I stream for others to watch. Same thing happened when I connected my chromecast. My TV shows a mirror of my phone but it is horrendously laggy. I've had some serious issues with this phone since day 1.
Any idea what could be causing it? I've seen other users stream and mirror with no issues, why am I unable to do it? I can't record, I can't stream, and I can't even mirror to my tv because it all lags horrendously.
I'm using a Note 5. It's not running stock I'm using a custom OS and firmware courtesy to XDA.
I am currently using TEKXodus rom and SkyHigh kerner.
Last issue I have, and this is something I have had since day 1, is when ever I try to watch videos on youtube or download files, it's significantly slower compare to my Note 3. I can not watch 1080 videos or 720. Even at 640 my videos sometimes lags! I don't understand why, I have unlimited internet. I called Tmobil but they said that everything is working fine. Anyone has any ideas? I really dislike the Note 5 ;/ I miss my Note 3
Was wondering if anyone else has experienced video Lag or buffering. I know it isn't a network issue because I didn't have the problem on my note 8.
issue : I will click on a video and it will usually start to play right away but 5-10 second in it will pause like it's buffering and not start back, even though I can see the video is downloaded just fine. I will have to skip ahead 5 seconds or so for the video to resume playing again.
is this an issue of anyone else or just me?
I have the Same in YouTube
No in fact the 7pro is getting 30% fast network speed then my OP6 was getting in the same areas. I am Using YouTube Vanced and I'm watching 1440p videos with zero buffering and the full videos are cached by the time I'm about 60% through the video. Have zero complaints with any streaming source so far.
Mine doesn't have any real issues. There are times where it slows but I attribute that to network. Most times it works fine
Streaming over Youtube and Netflix are perfect for me but video does play kinda funny over LAN. Some network browsers would buffer to no end and HW decoding is out of sync over LAN for some files. Switching network browser apps and use SW decoding solved the problem for me.

I have noticed the same over LAN. What did you do to use SW decoding if you don't mind me asking?

I use both MX Player and VLC. MX Player is probably the easiest. There is an icon on the upper right that says either HW, HW+ or SW. Press it to change decoding mode. The out of sync files are always either HW or HW+. Switching to SW and they are back in sync, for me at least.
Anyone know a workaround for apps like Netflix and MLB at Bat playing video completely full screen and displaying a stretched image?

For Netflix, two finger pinch.
