Hey XDA,
Looking at moving from my BB to an Android phone. Love the screen on the Mesmerize but not loving the feel of the case. I own a couple restaurants and I am always fixing stuff, getting wet, etc. I also fly balloons and can bang around the basket on sporty landings. Any thoughts on the hardiness of this device, cause the HTC desire seems tougher?

FWIW. I try my best to keep mine safe but have dropped and skidded across the floor a few times. No scratches. I use otter box commuter case and no screen protector. I just don't like the way they feel. The screen is pretty tough although not impossible to scratch. Others have reported far worse things happening and the phone stood up just fine. I personally love this phone and think with the right case and care it is worth it. But that's me. You may have better or worse luck than me. I don't know I have some pretty bad luck sometimes
Tap-a-Talked.
I have an Otterbox on mine. Took plenty of drunken slams onto concrete. Still fine.
The cheap fishbone (2 piece case, one hard plastic spine that clips over a soft rubber skin) works great, I'ts a good cheap alternative to the otterbox if you don't want to spend that much.
The back part of the phone and the corners are somewhat weak if you don't use a case, but the glass is gorilla glass and for the first 5 months or so I had nothing on the phone and have no noticeable scratches but I did lose a tiny chunk out of the corner on one fall.
FWIW - The desire feels a bit more sturdy without a case or anything, but it's smaller and a little more awkward to hold than the mesmerize IMO.
I have the Seidio SURFACE or Innocase and dropped it down 20 feet of stairs the other night, was totally pissed until i noticed i didn't get one scratch on it
Thanks all, sounds like a plan, just gotta wait a few more days until I'm eligible for a new phone. Squeeze!

For anyone who is up in the air between the top 2 rugged cases, the Kraken II is made much better for the Charge.
The belt clip on the holster for my Defender snapped the other day when it caught on the armrest of my chair so I went ahead and ordered a red Kraken II off of ebay since I had wanted to give one a try anyways. Got it today and everything about it is better. The holster holds the phone much more securely, the silicone is underneath the plastic so no more will it start coming off all the time like the Defender's did, and you can get it in colors . The level of dust protection is also a lot better thanks to mesh screens over the speaker and earpiece.
Hope this helps anyone deciding
Update 10/19!!!!
Forget everything I said above. I now hate Trident. Their plastic feels great and seems nice at first but is insanely cheap! A small piece next to the charger port broke off last night and this morning before I left for work I went to clip it onto my belt and when I went to squeeze the clip a little it snapped. Absolute junk. Thinking of just going to the standard Verizon case/holster combo and keeping it clipped inside my pocket at this point.
For what would you need such a case on this phone? I have dropped mine (naked) on concrete repeatedly with no harm (to the screen/internals).
I actually like the Defender better than the Kraken. I think it just looks better, sleek, and more stylish. The kraken does have color, but it looks cheap in my opinion. My family has the Defender case on all of our Droid Charge(s). No issues with them whatsoever. I just like having all around protection for my phone, although I have never dropped it (yet), I know it'll stay safe when I do.
I recently bought a Otterbox Defender Case. It definitley makes the phone much more bulky but I gues thats price for protection. I honestly am looking for reasons to take it off and put my old case back on but I fear that once I do I will drop my phone and it will shatter into a million pieces....hahaha. I n all honesty, it feels solid and indestructible now, my only complaint is its bulk and how lint kinda sticks to the rubber...I give it a 10/10 for purpose alone and a 7,8/10 in aestethics...

Mine dropped from ceiling level of a Lowe's retail building while up on power equipment once. Try that without one of these cases.
Also I would like to say that the way the belt holster is made on the Kraken saved my butt. I almost snapped it the first day I had it (in the exact same way I did the Defender holster) but the Kraken's holster is made with a detachable clip so instead of breaking it flew into 3 pieces that snapped right back together.

All OtterBox cases do the lint thing & it drives me nuts. The Incipio does the same thing.
I finally settled on the BodyGlove as it gives an awesome grip on the phone & does not attract link AT ALL.

updated first post. Forget everything, Trident is junk
Have you looked at the Otterbox Commuter for the charge?
Not as "industrial-strength" as the Defender, but extremely well made and it does a great job of protecting the phone while still leaving all buttons and slots/openings usab;e and/or easily accessible....
The holster is kinda important to me. Going to try the standard Verizon case/holster combo.
I am using the Verizon holster with a Casemate case. Works very well. Only thing I don't like about the holster is that the clip sticks up kind of high and will dig into your belly in certain positions. Might be a belly issue though LOL
I have Trident Kraken II case and I broke holster clip. Emailed Trident and they replaced clip within a couple days via mail.....good customer service.
Not sure which Otterbox case I have but this damn thing is tough as nails. I'm in the Army and this thing has taken a beating. I've dropped it out of a vehicle going 35 and nothing happened to it. Dropped it from about 10 feet up as well and nothing. I'll post pics as soon as I can so you guys know which one it is. I just know it's 3 pieces (2 plastic then the gummy like cover).

Sounds like the Defender. Built in solid screen protector right? The case itself rocks but the holster is too cheap.

No screen protector but it does have the holster. I need to get some pics uploaded because I have no idea which one it is lol.
I've not had any issues with the Trident case, itself, but I did have an issue with the belt clip breaking clear apart when I tried to take it off. Now I need to see if they offer any sort of warranty ala Otterbox...
Can you take the screen protector off the Kraken 2

It's glued in from the back, you can just punch it out with a couple firm thumb presses before you put the phone in.

I was gonna say singeing similar. After repeatedly dropping my phone from chest height onto the floor with only minor superficial scratches to the plastic.
Pretty rugged phone.

There are a lot of threads talking about our favorite cases, but I don't see a lot of talk about how well your case of choice performed when the phone was dropped.
I've dropped my phone once, my case of choice at the time was the UAG Aero. I was at the mall, pulled the phone out of my pocket, and there it went. It reached a height of about 5 feet, hit the floor, bounced several times, and came to rest about 10 feet away. The UAG couldn't have performed any better, there was absolutely no damage to my phone or case.
So, what case were you sporting when you dropped your phone, and how did things go?
Otterbox. Freaking great
BAD ASS NOTE 4

If a case could prevent that I would buy it
I have the Unicorn Beetle Pro Rugged case and it cracked in 2 corners after a couple solid drops. I guess it saved the phone, but shame the case didn't last longer. Also broke the holster after applying too much pressure on one side.
Verus Thor case on mine. Dropped it twice at work: once from about two feet up onto a steel car wash track, and then later on from about five feet and through the air onto concrete (it was in my coat pocket, and it flew out as I swung the coat around to put it on). Aside from a small scuff on one corner of the case, it looks pristine. I was pretty surprised at how well it held up considering it's not a beast like the Otterbox.
Official Samsing protective cover - dropped the phone down a flight of steps - performed like a boss
Not a mark on the phone or case
(perhaps a few lucky bounces)
Samsung S-View case: Dropped about 3 feet onto sandy beach. Phone survived, but cover unsnapped from phone leaving the phone, case, and battery as separate pieces lying on the beach. Seemed like extremely poor protection IMHO, so I switched to Samsung protective case with glass screen protector. I really like the Samsung protective case. It seems like this case will provide much better protection. I haven't dropped it yet, so only time will tell.
Otterbox Defender dropped about 1&1/2 feet face down on a tile floor, no damage to phone or case.
Ringke slim. Dropped it once from the little well on the car door. Hit asphalt parking lot on the corner. A little scuffed up. Sanded it down and it's good to go.

How far did it fall?
I once dropped a Galaxy Note 2 about 1 foot right on it's face and shattered the screen. Since then I've always had an Otterbox Defender on my phone. There have been numerous drops from up to about 4 feet and they always come out perfect.

It only dropped 50cm but it was still in my jeans pocket.
So it got smached on the corner of a brick with me on top of it.
Uag maverick here and it had been amazing!! I've dropped my phone from 2ft up to 7ft once and no problems at all!! Not even the corners of the case got dinged up!

I drop my Note 4 with Tech 21 all the time to show people. I drop it from waist level and usually lands on the corner. No damage to the phone or case.
Spigen Tough armor, fallen off my lap getting out of the car several times, a couple off my desk and no damage that i can find on the phone or the case.
Otterbox Defender: Walking to hockey game, dropped phone from about 4 ft, bounced on sidewalk to my right, where it was kicked by the lady walking next to me. Came to rest about 5 ft later after bouncing along. Not a scuff or scratch on case or device.
Spigen tough armor. Like a champ

I pre ordered my blue note 7 and I have pre ordered the blue defender case and amazon is still showing that it will get to me on the 12th of never. I got the Zagg invisi shield screen protector that best buy had... had it installed at the store and the thing never did fit quite right. Especially on the left edge.... the one that my edge is docked too. Many of you may not be familiar with a company called SaddleBack leather but I have several pieces of their stuff and they make a leather sleeve for the iphone 6+ which also fits a note 7...reasonably well. I got 2 and wish i had gotten a 3rd color as well...before their prices went up.
I have had my note 7 in the sleeve for about a month now. I've dropped it at least twice... once on the face and once on the edge... no problems. As far as I can tell no scratches. I would hate to drop it on the edge where the phone slides out... and if you hold the case with phone in it and the open side is down... it will slowly slide out. The phone/sleeve do fit in my pocket very well...you can almost forget that its in your pocket. Much better than a otterbox.
I like that I can pull out my phone and my wallet and lay them on a restaurant table or the night stand and the 2 match. On one hand I am thinking that with the right skin and screen protector I would almost never put my phone in the otterbox, when and if It ever shows up. On the other hand...I bought the blue phone because I like the blue color and I dont really want to cover it up and hide it. Maybe I can get a blue or clear skin and screen protector and enjoy my phone the way it was meant to be.
For me... the saddle back sleeve is a win as long as I am not trying to drive over my phone with my truck... or play football with it

I love my Saddleback briefcase, wallet and business card holder.
My only worry would be grit getting in there somehow.
I do light construction, which is why I've always had otterboxes before. And I can see where that could be a problem. I think I am going to get clear full body protection for it... but if I ever do put it in a defender thats going to be over kill and the zagg screen protector came off from sliding it in and out. But, there was 1 corner on the zagg that was never right to begin with.
Will the note 7 fit in the sleeve if in a case?

I went with this combo because I usually run a naked phone but this is the most high-end phone I have ever owned. Even at 250 it was inexpensive though. The fit on all three products is really nice, the only defect I was able to find is the Techskin has a small deformity but you can't even see it with the screen on...
I was in the ER for a minor issue Saturday night, nothing even worth mentioning but I had one of those plastic safety wristbands on. Sunday as I was walking outside enjoying the sunshine I noticed the wristband and decided to break it off... With my phone in that hand... Because I am a freaking genius... As the wristband popped my phone did about 10 backflips up to about my chest height. I am 6' so that's about 5'. I swear this phone has rocket assist because it targeted the cement under my feet and accelerated much much faster then gravity could account for....
Full on corner impact on the top right corner. I could see the corner of the phone had popped out of the case and I just KNEW it was going to be cracked beyond usable.... Not a single dang scratch ANYWHERE, unlocked without issue with fingerprint sensor and not a single discoloration of any pixels or anything.... Still in 100% Mint condition
Tudia/Skinomi combo gets my 100% endorsement as well as my thanks and appreciation!!!
Slim, fits well in my pocket, doesn't snag or pull at my pocket fabric when I put the phone in or pull it out... And it looks incredible.... Imma take a pic with another camera in a few and post it up but again.
Thank you Tudia and Skinomi for cost effective and excellent products
Got the Tudia minimalist case yesterday on brand new phone so no drops so far but it's reassuring to know it works!
Here is the damage to the case. I'm smart and took a pic of the wrong corner of the phone...
