Thanks! I like how the first link is interactive, and showing you how to code little by little. I'll have to check these out more in detail sometime. Should be very helpful for people wanting to get their feet wet in doing their own development.
The 2 other links you posted have an extra "http://" at the beginning which gives an invalid link. I took one of them out and got to the right page, but wanted to let you know so you can edit the OP.
I would say if anyone else has any other helpful links, post them up!

Solrac, it might be better if you would concentrate your efforts on updating our wiki since some information has already been repeated a few times, particularly the roms list. If you wind up putting them in the wiki then other users can edit it once you decide to not update this thread. I've seen it happen to at least two other threads already which is why team acid have moved some of our instructions to the wiki.

I agree with fb most people *we hope* would read the wiki and find all this awesome info
and if you do update the wiki update the way java6 is installed because unless i did it wrong i could get it working with this:
Code:
sudo add-apt-repository "deb http://archive.canonical.com/ lucid partner"
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jdk
Looks like the package isn't in the archive anymore. I had to do this to install java6 jdk.
Code:
sudo add-apt-repository [B]ppa:ferramroberto/java[/B]
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jdk

I'm confused and lost and scared. What is the difference between changing the bootanimation and bootloader graphic?

bootloader graphic is the second animation but if you are scared dont change that animation and the bootanimation you dont have to worry you only have to check if the bootanimation is HDPI
EDIT: java and javascript is not the same ( java is for ui and javascript is for web pages and other stuff)

*!NOT ROM THREAD!* Gingerbread on Hero collab thread (update-12/19/10)

*SORRY BOUT THE LATENESS ON UPDATING THIS! So 2.3 AOSP decides to come out when I take a 2 day hiatus to work on an iptv show! :X*
This is not a rom thread holding a Gingerbread 2.3 ROM!
This is a thread for us to collab on BRINGING 2.3 AOSP to the Hero after source is released.
Mission Statement:
I am creating this thread as a one stop to start progress and relay information on building the 2.3/Gingerbread AOSP source for the Hero. THIS IS NOT A ROM THREAD, but a place for DEVS to build knowledge on building the 2.3 AOSP source for the Hero and how to do it, what the roadmap is in development and what drivers are needed/fixes/etc. for it to work properly on the Hero.
Things to do:
1. Download SDK/Try 2.3 in emulator... DONE! (DAMN performance sucks in the emulator.. hope to see something better on native hardware...)
2. Download 2.3/Gingerbread source---Need to download (will today)
3. Test existing open drivers for Hero. Works/Does Not work, and what we need to do to fix what does not.
4. Stabilize
5. Create How-To's for folks to build and create dev roms for themselves.
Available test ROMS(SDK Emulator rom based : no radio access):
[GPL][UNSTABLE] aospMod v0.1 | Android 2.3 SDK (Gingerbread) [12/07/2010] Author - AOSP
See 2nd Post for roadmap.
Reserved for RoadMap, Resources, and Dev recognition.
Roadmap:
(personal)Set up Ubuntu 10.10 on target desktop (AMD Athlon x2 5600+ yeah I know it's not that fast, but good enough) Done.
Download Source: Will be as soon as I get home anyway...
Set up source: Not yet to fruition.
Build Source: Not yet to fruition.
Test on Hero: (Done, not by me)
Current Bugs: Not by me: Reset to blank until we know what the source and current drivers do.
Resources:
Android 2.3 aka "Gingerbread" aka "API Level:9" platform information

GINGERBREAD-KaosGingerbread (for Eris) Thread.
Guide to installing Java 1.5 /JDK 1.5 on Ubuntu 10.10
Building Requirements (from Google Android Developer's site)
Code:
To set up your Linux development environment, make sure you have the following:
Required Packages:
Git 1.5.4 or newer and the GNU Privacy Guard.
JDK 5.0, update 12 or higher.Java 6 is not supported, because of incompatibilities with @Override.
flex, bison, gperf, libsdl-dev, libesd0-dev, libwxgtk2.6-dev (optional), build-essential, zip, curl.
$ sudo apt-get install git-core gnupg sun-java5-jdk flex bison gperf libsdl-dev libesd0-dev libwxgtk2.6-dev build-essential zip curl libncurses5-dev zlib1g-dev
You might also want Valgrind, a tool that will help you find memory leaks, stack corruption, array bounds overflows, etc.
$ sudo apt-get install valgrind
Intrepid ( 8.10) users may need a newer version of libreadline:
$ sudo apt-get install lib32readline5-dev
Newest SDK Changes:
-Windows installer will install SDK to C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk-windows
-ADB is moved to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools
Contributors/Devs on the scene:
Me.. More to come I am sure.. PM me or just post if you want to contribute. I am not the oversee-er of this mission as we all want to see this come to fruition, but I am dedicated to bringing this to the Hero and I want to be in the trench as well as a spectator.
Devs:
Special Recognition:
punk.kaos - First XDA-Dev to build 2.3/Gingerbread for any Android device (Eris) (can also be used on the Hero) (from sdk rom)
Hotaru - First 2.3 ROM build specifically for Hero (from sdk rom)
AOSP - First Second 2.3 ROM build specifically for Hero (from sdk rom)

aosp's problem was with java, it was looking for keys and the heroc didn't understand.
Hexscrew, you can always visit aosp's IRC channel, I'm sure that you guys could talk it out a little bit. This is a great idea for a thread though. I'll refrain from ALL further clutter as I'm not in the position to help while I'm working.

they released it yesterday. BTW great work hotaru, but how far did it boot? Though the Eris IS as close to the Hero as you can get
But yeah, the ultimate goal here is to have a full walkthrough of how to build 2.3 from source specifically for the Hero so we can start devving out new roms asap
@dean.d at least your honest on the fake! lol. Hey btw, that would make a nice theme for 2.2 for now.
@smoothtaste thanks for the heads up. I forget theres an irc for almost everything these days
lol im hopeful boots up fine i still think they should have changed the ui a lil more than some color adjustments but eh. It boots all the way just camera, wifi, bluetooth, audio dont work....the browser loads web pages faster but it keeps closing itself plus its a lil laggy but hey this is the first attempt and im very impressed.

@hexskrew: so does such a guide exist for froyo? I toyed with it last night but wasn't sure what people like aosp used to get a build that works with our phones. I would imagine we need the HTC files like CM6 does. Like I said, CM6 is almost idiot proof for building. I wish it was a bit more involved.
Sorry, getting off topic here. Use PM if you'd like.

It's all good it happens.
I dunno if it works with java6 or not (I just uninstalled because of the said "incompatibility") but that was what I was going to do. Research cm6 building and then cross-reference with building 2.3 AOSP as per google.
I think the biggest question I have is how to pull the driver source from the 2.1-ish kernel, or do we need to worry about that at all and just shove another kernel into it? As far as screen resolution and such I think I have a good idea on where to change the variables for that.
The one other big question I have is what do we use to replace gapps?! I mean we could always just shove another market into the rom but what about gmail and etc? Not even sure if 2.2 gapps will work or if we have to wait for google to put it out :X
Well off topic as it is, I have to go get a new tire put on my car (damned is my wallet)... Will be back on soon.
Well none of the hardware except radio and touchscreen is working I also installed gapps market works but a lot of apps are missing my gmail sync worked just fine. Seems like they will work only thing that was acting up in my brief test was the browser like I said in my last post. I also flashed the newest cfs kernel no bootloop.

My suggestion is this there are quite a few of us that are trying to learn how to compile from source. We should get together and figure it out then make a how to video.
On another note I read Java doesn't work for compiling beyond version 1.5 or 5 the one with 5 in it

Yeah it's java 5 that you have to have (or rather java 5.? or higher.. cant remember the exact revision number). I havent' found how to find anything else besides jdk/java 6 on ubuntu 10.10. If you have better luck with an earlier version then holla back! lol.
HAHA! I was looking right at it:
Code:
sudo apt-get install git-core gnupg sun-java5-jdk flex bison gperf libsdl-dev libesd0-dev libwxgtk2.6-dev build-essential zip curl libncurses5-dev zlib1g-dev
For those of you like me using ubuntu 10.10, check the 2nd post for a link to a blog on installing jdk/java 5.

AOSP just posted a gingerbread rom.... haven't tried it but go check it out! hope it helps.
Bumped for importance. This thread is taking a turn..
BTW, this thread is supposed to be about gearing everyone up for the SOURCE CODE release. My bad, I didn't realize at first that like what aosp has done is just pulled the rom from the sdk emulator and changed the kernel to use with the Hero. Which is why until we get the source to dev on, we won't have radio access as of course the sdk is compiled just to simulate radio access.
So as of right now my linux box is fully set up to sync with the repo (actually it is currently sync'd) however meaning when google releases the source to gingerbread.
So as of now we need to go back to 2.1 aosp and compile some info on what to edit to get it to our needs, so we can make as speedy of a development as possible once the source hits.

Credit for this also goes to a wonderful app developer, appelflap, who wrote the app, provides excellent support and will receive thanks and part of the contributions from the donate version on the market. He is a fantastic developer; I urge everyone who would donate to me to send some his way as well
General Description
Battery Icon Mod is a general app (root required) for turning the standard battery icon into something more useful and more sophisticated.
The (ambitious) goal is to serve mods with this app for as many devices as possible. See second post for the devices/roms that are currently supported.
Important
Make a nandroid backup. I've written a very simple guide how to do this with Rom Manager here. (Really it costs you only a minute or so. Very easy to do)
If you apply a wrong version or you stumble upon a corrupted one (although all versions are tested)... you may ending up with a unbootable device. In that case you have to flash your firmware again... OR just do a simple restore of your backup (I will describe a general restore procedure later on)
Only choose the version that matches your device and rom. Also make sure that the rom version matches your current rom.
Sometimes [/I]mods for a particular rom will also work on another rom. However that's not the rule, more an exception. If you try, make sure you have a backup of your system.
Requests
If your device/rom isn't supported post a request with a copy of your framework-res.apk (it's in the /system/framework directory) with a description of the device and rom you have.
Note: The international Samsung Galaxy S (GT-I9000) will still be supported by this app. Post your requests there. Later these two projects will be merged together.'

Themers and modders
Like to share your modded framework-res.apk? Post it in this thread (with a description of course of the device and rom it is supposed to run on) and we will put a link to it in the app.
Credits
To all modders and to theimpaler747 who made the first steps of this general project possible, and for appelflap, who is an excellent and supportive app developer who does things with apps I cannot . And of course the guys behind UOT Kitchen, who made this work so much more easy. Thanks.
Donations
There's a donation version in the Android Market (search for: Battery Icon Mod). Donations are mainly for paying the server that hosts the mods, and for putting these mods together (theimpaler747). Thanks!
Unfortunately, but needed at this moment:
Two (not tested) restore procedures for if you have a boot loop and didn't make a Nandroid backup.
Both methods require that you have adb installed. If not, download the Android SDK from here: http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html and find the adb program in the subdirectory "platform-tools".
Method 1 - update.zip method:
Create your own update.zip with which you install the backup of the modified file back in restore mode.
The instructions for this and the tool needed for it can be downloaded here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/17635874/restore.zip
CREDITS: The tool/script that is used to create the update.zip is another brilliant tool of the creator of APK Manager: Daneshm90. The thread of this tool can be found here (another pearl I found on xda-dev lately (I had to repackage it to make the restore procedure simpler)
Method 2 - shell method
Install and run SuperOneClick and choose "Shell Root"
Start ADB, wait for the # prompt and enter the following commands:
#busybox mount -o remount,rw /system (or mount -o ro,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system if there's no busybox)
#rm /system/framework/framework-res.apk
#cp /sdcard/framework-res.apk /system/framework/framework-res.apk
#chown root.root /system/framework/framework-res.apk
#chmod 644 /system/framework/framework-res.apk
#reboot
Again these methods are not fully tested. They "should" work. Feedback is very much appreciated.
(Nevertheless if these methods don't work it should get your guys going in searching in the right direction to get out of a boot looper)
Reserved here from me, thanks appelflap for compiling ours together into a nice application! More phones to come, and please donate to help buy server space if you enjoy this! Thank you

This is a script I made for making your time with your device as easy and pain-free as i can. I will add scripts on request! This is a Windows/PC batch script using command prompt/ADB. This was created on Windows 7 but will work in Windows XP or higher. My GitHub is in my signature and profile. 3.4 is planned for a major update that should work on most devices. This sub-project will be similar to Cornea but its NOT. So this will be a universal script that should across most to all devices.

v2.1
Hey just dropped v2.1 today after almost staying up all night ...enjoy
OK I am trying to unroot using Mr. Root....the screens go to fast to read but I gather it is supposed to push pg59IMG.zip to my phone when it reboots but it isn't pushing and I don't see the file in the app....am i missing something?
I'm happy to see dev support on this project and people using it and helping it grow.
I haven't had time to sit down and play with it, but it looks like an incredibly useful package and I'm looking forward to when I can get an opportunity between projects to see what it can do for me.
Just wanted to say thanks and voice my support for the endeavor, seems like a handy tool to have around.

Help needed
I have doubts of what to do with this files I upload above. Now i'm trying with Stock rom and golf rom...the files are: build.pro, build.img, update.bin and update script,i'll update a folder with theses files from both roms! I guess this files are giving the problems because the rest of the tuturial is easy
So, Golf ---> Explorer, can someone with experience edit theses files so the rom dont have errors in booting up??? I made arrangents as I say below, but no sucess :S
-> build prop must have where is device and all...pico instead of golf!
->boot image must be of golf with bootclasspath line edited with stcoks'
-> Update binary (can i copy paste the stocks one?)
->Update script: this is the trick one, i dont know much :S

Advice would be good too and take action in the port too, let's talk about it in this thread, let's make it a "Explorer's Community Rom"

1)‎>>>>BLUEMOD_ZIP: FOR STOCK ROM AND JAGGY ROM!<<<<<<<<
>ZIP for install mod, and.....BIG NEWS: zip for remove mod (yes remove and back to before mode!!)
>Back story: I applied the blue-mod theme (see original thread) to my phone but not manually, i tried as dicribed but still getting error in android commander so i make a zip to flash. I creat bluemod_zip based on the mod by user jinjamal in xda (great mod sir!!!)
I sucessful created a install zip, but how to unninstall? I didn't know..I started to think and I came with a way to do it!!
Ladies and gentelmen I present you the files:
>>>Download (it says green but is the blue mod!)<<<<<

>To those who have jaggy rom: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?z06ue2ur76s393e
How to install/unninstall: zip of the folder in download (mod ou unmod) in sdcard, then just enter in recovery and "install zip from sd card"...Enjoy!! How simple is that???
>>>>Thanks friend Prasanna Chandra, Ashish Garg, Aabhas Lall and many more that replied to me in facebook group!! And of course to the creator of the mod jinjamal of XDA)

And lastly if anyone has free time, try to help modafoca with porting cyanogenmod, do it for the community.
Thanks.
Time tries all.
Hopefully with all your help I'll make it work!

Buddy first no offence or im not degrading your efforts. But please browse around the forum. All custom roms use somewhat the same mods and changes which is already made ready by some senior developers. If people have come around with some new developments, then whats the reason that all the roms perform similarly and especially in regards to ram managements except for visual changes.
All these mods can be done by a little advanced android user with the help of kitchen and some advanced tools.
Instead of jamming up the threads with new roms, a better option would be to make a flashable zip of optimized mods, which will be within 30mb max and will give the users the same experience of all custom roms.. This will work on most roms, as 90% of them are based on stock firmware except for lewa and miui.
I am not pointing this just at you but its a request to all the forum members. These kind of roms will just lead in to confusions on which to use while the performance is 95% similar to each other.
No offence again!!

First of all! I expected appreciation instead of you saying this all!
First of all you can't group other people and me... No one is a pro.. They aren't senior.. Look at XDA their not even babies! Also, I am not junior in terms of account creation! I know XDA since it was started but I never made an account because I wasn't eligible at that time!
You can't compare roms in terms of the Author! You can't rate the rom good if the Author is a RD/RC/RT.
Also, I said this is the Beta Build #1 which has nothing to do with theming.. This is just to check if it works fine with users!
I am going to add OTA just like in JetMOD in the RC 1 of this rom!
UI Changes will be made but not with the design but with animations! I want to give AOSP look!

CHILL BRO!! I said I was not pointing this just at you already. BTW I didnt mention the people who created the custom roms as seniors. I meant the people who made supercharger scripts, kitchen, etc means real developing from scratch. And there was no question of rating a rom so the developer being a RD/RC/RT dosent matter here. And again whats the point in adding a OTA and making some UI changes when there is no major performance change.

Have you ever checked this rom out?
Huh? What is this?
I have integrated Ram Manager and many other tweaks!
Have you hear of TrickDroid? WanamLite? Omega? Android Revolution HD? They all are stock based roms with no UI changes but still they have achieved wonders!
Also, Why don't you take this rom as a test one?
Big big updates will be given! You have to wait for sometime

My main concern with this build was to check if it boots! Once someone confirms its booting, I'll start the real work
I just configure aroma
Everyone needs to join the party at one time or the other. Both of you were correct in your own ways. Kishoredroid you were right in getting a complete rom out vs modded zips. But you need to start somewhere. If nolinuxnoparty feels this is his start then let go with it. Just giving another option to users which i know already have plenty of options already. But the main thing to see is what this evolves into. How much the dev learns and make it stand out from the crowd. All the best. Lets appreciate each other views.
Kishoredroid - thanks for trying out and understanding the stance.
nolinuxnoparty - make sure you keep up your words. Will be looking forward to more of your work as you have stated!

I am trying to port PA 1.5 for A110 atm! If it boots then the next release will be based on ICS (PA 1.5)

a big lol. you couldnt able to make an account becoze of what...age or something else. a 10 year old kid can make an account. do they ask u a birth certificate or some else. no offence but ur rpl made me laugh alot. thanks for making me laugh. i have literally added one.
besides it will be a wise decision to release patches of small space. there is no point in downloading a whole rom which is a common one.please understand this.
screenshots will be appreciated......

Installation aborted error coming while flashing/............ any help ????
It's the first time we've got a complete team of ROM makers for this community...and yea they seem to be experienced...
After looking at the OP, I'm actually very impressed...
But I guess, it would be more impressive if you guys actually do what you've stated, coz as posted...the beta build isn't flashing... @nolinuxnoparty - Just one thing, it would be better if you don't say who's an XDA Baby and who's a Pro...better show it through your work...
As for now...I will wait for a stable version of this ROM...
I guess I need to change the base of the roms!
Until then I have asked mod to close this thread! Once I have links for working builds I will ask mods re-open again
Soryy if it hurted the Team of Radium or other Dev's . Sorry once again. Leaving this thread as it was.

To All Dev's and the Team,
I m just trying to remind you that without kernel, building AOKP or PA or Cyanogen from source is impossible and if I am not wrong we don't have a single dev now who wanna give a try on kernel. Changing the base only and porting a ROM on Micromax JB as base will likely to be a theming not a port actually.....
So please team and others if you know the goodies of Java and C++ then please try for kernel first.
Will be waiting for a positive reply from the Team and the Dev and others as well......

I really didn't understand the reason why you posted here
I dont take chances with MMX phones basically.. Just think, if ur phone hardbricks the guy to be blamed will be me. I can develop kernels but not until My friend or I have the device.. Stop posting here now! JB kernels are not possible without proper source!
EDIT:
Most of the legacy device which have JB 4.2 didn't even have kernel source for GB.... Their is no point arguing on this :sly::sly:
And this rom isn't a post.
No more replies until next release.
