Asus Transformer Prime APP help - General Topics

Hello everyone. I am new to the forum. I tried posting this under the Asus transformer section, but due to me having less that enough posts it said I must post in general.
So I tried looking on the forum for exactly what I wanted and could not find it. I want an app that will let me edit any office or PDF file and let me to do it with a stylus writing freehand. I don't want to merely edit and just write in text, or highlight I want to be able to use my stylus and actually circle a word in power point, or be able to write notes freehand with the stylus on the side of the PPT. I do notice that Adobe let's me kind of do it with it's reader, but it just feels really laggy for me. If there is an APP available for me to try I don't mind if I even have to purchase it due to it being used for school.
Please give me your input! and thank you for letting me be apart of your community!

No. You aren't meant to post this in the development Prime forum. That's what if meant. Then it said post it in the general forum, It's the general forum of the Prime section.

[Q] Noob wants to post on developer forum

Hi, guys!
I am a relative noob to XDA - I got a Kindle Fire (preordered first day) and (for my lovely bride of 32 years) a Asus transformer Prime - again, pre-ordered first day. With these hot new toys in hand, I went looking for a place to start customizing them. In particular, I wanted to make the Kindle Fire into an actual Android tablet (or as close to one as possible with the hardware limitations). I found this site and am now using my third version of CyanogenMod 9 for the Fire.
My problem is - I know I'm a noob here, but I'm not a complete moron, yet I am prevented from posting until I post at least 10 times in forums like this one. In 1970, when most of the users of this site weren't yet even a twinkle in their respective daddys' eyes, I took my first programming course at college - programming an IBM 360 with series 40 compiler using Fortran input through punch cards. That doesn't mean I know squat about Android - I don't - but I was also using the internet long before there was a "World Wide Web" and posting on forums that I read on a monochrome CRT. I understand a little about bulletin board etiquette and I DO read before I ask a noob question. Despite my ignorance of Android programming and hacking, there are questions to which I can provide answers and I have questions to which devs might deign respond.
Is there any chance a grampa like me might be granted dispensation to post to, say, "Amazon Kindle FireKindle Fire Android Development[ROM][24 Feb] IceCreamSandwich Development/Discussion Thread" without having to jump through hoops to establish my worth?
I'm also new to the forums, joining purely to offer feedback on a new ROM I tried until I saw about the 10 post rule, so I feel your pain. I don't know much about the forums yet, but I can't imagine them making exceptions. It seems like it'd be more work than it's worth, as many people would ask to be allowed immediate access to all privelgaes. It's easier to have rules with "no buts." Just my thoughts
there's always the offtopic threads

[Q&A] Everything eee pad

ive decided to start a treat for all those noobs that cant search or has never heard of a search engine, from petty stuff to more major things. Ask away!
That is a good idea in theory, but if they can't search, how are they going to this this thread tomorrow if it isnt bumped often? Have the same problem with my noob guide.. if they can't search, then they are going to start another thread, and all the coverall posts just get buried under new single question posts

Agree with you! Need to stick this on the beginning
Just keep posting random stuff to bump it

Ok, here is a question;
Instead of starting a new thread lol
I need to edit unix-friendly files (i.e. updater-scripts and xml files), what is the 'best' (see your recommended) unix-friendly text-editor for Android?
Also, would like to package the files to be flashed in CWM without leaving the Android environment (could do it in Ubuntu if I set up a dual boot but would like to do it natively in Android). SO, what is the best method of creating flashable zip files from the TF?
(This is a question for anyone who can answer not just to the OP necessarily)
P.S. If this thread is to be of any use, you will have to answer questions posted here in a timely fashion as well, otherwise impatient noobs waiting on an answer will post their question in a new thread anyways lol
The 4 hours I've been waiting on a reply to my question would have been a dealbreaker for a noob
Searching.....

The problem comes up when searching for certain things.....for instance when I was trying to figure out why the Asus App Backup wasn't working. Try searching for that (without the benefit of Boolean operators) in the transformer forum. It selects every post with "Asus", every post with "App", and every post with "Backup". I used to train people on how to search for stuff in support databases, and in Microsoft Technet, so I don't consider myself a noob, and trust...I do a fair share of searching before I ever ask a question. Just sayin'...........

Use google search and add asus transformer to whatever you are looking for. I never use the search inside xda because its crap. XDA is supposed to be a developers site not product support.
I understand the frustration trying to find something but as of right now there are 3 threads on the first page of Q&A basically wanting the same info. I'm not directing this at you but about 80% of the people posting here want to be spoon fed everything. They think because they searched once and opened 1 link and the answer wasn't there that the answer can't be found. When you can open a thread and see the same question asked and answered 3 or 4 times in 10 posts (and was likely answered in the OP) you can tell people don't even read much less search. And it doesn't help the situation when some mods just ignore their own rules and continue to allow the same thing to be posted over and over or allow threads to go off topic. I tried flaming people but that got me temp banned and I tried reporting posts but that got me temp banned as well.(I reported the same thread for on going flame war and got a temp ban for reporting the same repeatedly)
XDA is either gonna clean up threads or continue to drive off devs who are tired of being tech support for n00bs who have to be spoon fed every detail. My favorite question that is asked is "If i'm coming from rom A to your rom do I need to wipe?". Take the time and make a backup and do whatever you want but in general every rom I've every flashed has asked that you wipe when coming from another rom.
Sorry.....rant over. I'm guessing this post will be edited and I will recieve some more ban points

EDIT: To the OP. Thanks for trying but its doomed to failure. You could sticky a post that said "This thread will answer all questions" and people would ignore it and post a new thread asking a question answered in the stickied thread

I would be shocked if this hasnt been asked and answered at least 100 times

Brief synopsis on basic rules and how to help the community

Hey everyone!
I have seen some things lately that really are bugging me, and I am hoping that we can fix this fast.
1) If you have a question and you want to post, please do a search in this forum first BEFORE you post!
2) Please EVERYONE, even if you have over a thousand posts and many thanks, READ THE RULES:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/announcement.php?f=1058
3) If you do a search and find something close enough to your problem, but not quite the same, then please try posting in that thread first and not create another new one.
4) STOP posting and asking about ICS twice a day in a new thread every time.
5) If you ask a question and several people give an answer, attempt it, before you jump back and tell them that thier answer is not what you are looking for. I have seen this all too much lately, and I am getting fed up. Those of us on here that have the knowledge and we give our time freely on here, so show some respect.
6) Don't hijack someone else's thread because there are a lot of people looking at it, and not the one that you posted. This shows a lack of respect to all of us here.
There have been a TON of these things going on in here, and I have seen how many of our more senior users are getting very frustrated just like I am. If you want to keep getting good answers from the knowledgeable people in here, do some research first on your own before making a new post with incorrect information, and please listen and try to think about these things once you are given an answer, and don't just throw it out because it is not what you expected to get.
Also Please thank anyone who gives you an answer to you, even if you don't like it. And stop posting thank you posts, that is what the the thanks button is for.
One last thing, I think everyone should watch this video and hopefully you will get the point. This one is more for people with less than 50 posts, and little contribution.

Thanks guys, I am hoping we can just start linking this in all the posts that are like this from now on, so that we don't have to repeat ourselves constantly.
Well said Jim, as always. We have got to get this under control, and hopefully this will help. It's appreciated sir.
Sir, I refer you to Forum Rules, subsection 3;
"Post only using a clear SUBJECT and message". [Editorial usage of caps not found in original]
... Oh come on, it's a joke.

Jim,
Thanks for taking the time to write this up. Hopefully, things will change. Did I miss something, though? I mean, was there a massive solar flare within the last couple of days thats caused people's brains to get fried? Noobs and members arguing, acting passive aggressively, disrespectfully, and stubbornly when other members or senior members try to steer them in the right direction? The whole attitude of this forum lately has become argumentative and hostile, albeit some of that stems from member's and senior member's frustrations with others not wanting to take a few minutes and a few simple steps in finding out answers on their own before muddying up the forum with new threads on previously discussed topics. It really needs to be stopped, and at the risk of sounding like a total prick, I may start reporting members who fail to adhere to the forum's rules and request a 24 hour suspension if I keep seeing it. We're all grown folk here, we need to act it by respecting others, and playing by the rules...
(Rant over)

I've been meaning to do this, but I knew it would cause me to go on a rant. Nice post, it should be stickied
Most of us are too lazy to go through the rules, but this is to the point, this should be stickied and even then someone posts a silly question, it should be simply ignored.

ROFLMAO..... I actually was crying a little I laughed so hard.... thanks!
I was hoping the title would get some attention.
P.S. anyone that wants this to be a sticky please notify a mod.... I would, but it is my post, so that is kind of a no-no...
So can I flash ICS from China leak to my att atrix 2 LOL HAHA ..... +1 Thanks Jim well put.....
Jim, this is quite nice & I really appreciate when senior members respect Forum Rules by Mike - 2.1 & 2.5 & 10 besides the core stuff of course....I guess if someone is a repeat offender then yeah it would be no fun, Au contraire (i guess i don't get pulled up for using french) it would really make anyone who is not technically adept as Senior members think twice before even wanting to write in, in-spite after doing a search but has a different view or a question. In this case if majority of the members who yet feel the thread or post needs to be closed then yeah I guess MOD needs to be notified. I recall how you gave me some pointers on a much talked about topic & oh yes having a way of words surely helps all concerned.
Jim, I thought it was a shame yesterday when you were working so hard to bring us ICS and some guy called you an A-hole because he felt you should personally walk him through an install. It seems like more and more people think they are special/entitled.

Hi there, do we have a page for Atrix 2 where we could find all useful section like root methods, roms etc.
I know we have one for Defy (http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Motorola_Defy). Would be glad if we could have the same for Atrix 2.
Please let me know if there is already a page. I have searched but couldn't find it.
Edit: The link is there but its empty (http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Motorola_Atrix_II)

Question: How to customise my desktop on ASUS infinity?

Hi everyone, I just got my ASUS Infinity a few days ago and am very satisfied with it.
However I have a question. This may be a noob question, but I'll just go with it.
How can I customise my desktop? Meaning to control and add or remove apps that are shown on my desktop as soon as I turn on the browser.
Thank you very much in advace.

use widgets, which can be found where your apps are. you have a lot of options. you can get a launcher as well. to remove stuff, simply long press until its highlighted and then drag to the recycle bin. if you hold it over the recycle bin, you will be asked if you want to delete the item. so becareful when doing this.
As they guys above said.
And for the next time you might want to try the correct section of the forum which would be here.
Transformer TF700 Q&A
This video could be useful for you as well. I haven't watched but it looks like it covers the basics of Android 4.0.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wlv9o2XvQvI
You guys were helpful, I do realise how noob of a question that was.
Next time ill go to the q&a section.

[Q] Ok i'm dumb I signed up for the ASUS Device Tracker

Any way I can unassociate my TF700 from this. I can't seem to find a delete device button.
Thanks,
solstone
Unlikely. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1833442&page=14 and the whole discussion in this thread.
BTW, as you've mentioned this is [Q], it indicates clearly this should go to Q&A.
cool just read that link and seems like I am F'ed... maybe i'll try and put in a ticket with them and see what they tell me.
Sorry about the wrong forum, didn't noticed the Q&A forum. i will remember it next time.
no discussion needed
I signed up willingly. What information could they possibly want from me? Credit cards? They have that. Browsing history? Who cares, Google collects that anyway.
The way I see it is I have a $700 tablet, and I live and work on a college campus. If my device is stolen, I'm glad they provide this service.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using XDA Premium HD app
It's not just that. It can be remotely locked and much more. I don't like being spied on. It's up to you, really, let's not discuss this one again. There's plenty of discussion on it in the original thread on the device tracker.
