I really wanted to buy the One S and waited for months until HTC decided to elease it with a S3 processor in my country.
One of the main difference would be battery life of a overclocked S3 with a 1650 battery and battery life is quite important to me.
So anyone who already has the S3 One S can please post your battery stats?

It's still a bit early to benchmark the battery on those S3 one s cos they are just started to appear at certain market. However, keep your eye on those review websites, they should at least give you a generic idea when one did similar test. Keep the thread alive, it maybe very useful later.
Not battery stats but a Vellamo browser benchmark on the S3 One S
1771 (S3) vs 2404 (S4)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rnDkomwPW0Y
Am quite sure that performance wise even if it is less than S4 it will yet be pretty darn good and enough to run the phone smoothly (mostly because S4 is just too good)..
So it's the battery that is of a main concern especially as i had a Sensation with a 1.2Ghz processor and it's battery life was disappointing..
I haven't had many smartphones, except for a Samsung Galaxy variant and the HTC Desire S but extremely light usage it was showing as slightly more than day. I thought it wasn't bad.
HTC has used S3 overclocked to 1.7 GHz
and....
Overcloked processores = Less battery life
It will be of course less than the s4

I think OP wants one s, that's theain reason he/she is asking this question. Battery is important but not the only considering pinot.
I read somewhere said those s3 is improved version compared to s3 on sensation. So if that's true, it may not be too much worse than s4, but that's just my guess. Have to wait.

I hear you about HTC, their devices have always had a solid feel and great designs so it's hard to say anything else will compare, I bought the S4 version and I've tried the S3 SGS2 and it responds well though I know it's Samsung a friend of mine at work has it and can't say anything bad about processing.
Check out the sgs2 forum and read through some of the threads, it's the same processor essentially.
I bought it yesterday and has S3 processor. I can still change it with another phone but not S4 as here in Romania, Orange only brought S3 1.7Gh. I`like the phone very much but annoyed by this "game" HTC is playing with Asia and Eastern Europe customers. I`m not so concern about the phone performance but rather the battery drain. I don`t really know what to do....

I posted this in the One X forums and have no replies and 63 views. I hope you guys can help me with my dilemma. I bought the Inspire off contract at the end of Feb last year and loved it. Qualified for my upgrade in Dec and upgraded to the Vivid near the end of Jan and love it. The One X is the phone I am wanting. That being said I've only used Snapdragon processors and stuck with HTC. Internally, the AT&T version is identical to the Vivid, minus the S4 processor. I will be selling my Inspire to help get this phone, as I have to pay full price whichever route I go. I will have the full price for either device next month and would like to know which I should get? I am really not concerned with LTE as my area won't have for at least another year and I'm always on WiFi. The T3X I can get for $670, the AT&T S4X I will be able to get for $550. Rooting does not concern me at this point, my Inspire is rooted and my Vivid is still locked and stock. Can you please help me with this decision? I don't want to have buyers remorse later this year. I look forward to hearing your opinions.

If you live in a Lte area or upcoming Lte area, this decision should
be a no-brainer imo. I personally would take the s4 soc over the tegra3.

Nope, live outside of Memphis. They won't get LTE for at least another year, and we will get it prolly another year after that. I'm mostly on WiFi on my LTE capable Vivid.

So, regardless of being only on WiFi, you all would say still get the S4X? Cause I'm thinking the S4X will give me better battery life than the Vivid and the T3X combined. Not to mention the fact it will be cheaper than the T3X.

I think you just answered your own question.
I say go with the S4 version since it will be cheaper. A lot of people will use their AT&T upgrade on the phone just to flip it on Ebay for a profit. You will be able to get the S4 version of the One X for under 500.00.

Lol... Just wait for the at&t version. From what I've read, the one XL
has rock solid battery life with Lte. Hopefully that statement is true.
I think it comes down to how much you value developer support. The One X looks like it will have solid third party developer support, and while I suspect the One XL on AT&T will also have decent support, the international versions of phones usually have significantly stronger developer support.
So, if you were to go with the One XL from AT&T, you'd be trading that extra level of dev support for a lower price, valid warranty, higher performance*, probably better battery life, and LTE (where available).
If support for the One X/XL is anything like the support for the Galaxy S/Captivate, I'd say holding out for the AT&T release of the One XL would be well worth it.
*On most benchmarks.

Coming from an Inspire prior to the Vivid, I do value XDA developer support. However, without S-Off I refuse to root my Vivid. However, we are real close to that now. Short term, I don't mind running the phone stock, as that's what I did with my Inspire and now Vivid. I just waited til Thanksgiving to root my Inspire. Once the S-Off process for the Vivid is out, I will finally root it. So, I don't mind using the S4X stock until S-Off, if it ever is, achieved.

Um, no. That is not how multi-core processors work. Seems like you've fallen for marketing gimmickry, instead of actual facts. Few apps, if any are optimized to take advantage of 4 cores, so the only benefit you see is in running processes in the background, switching between tasks, and the like.
If you look at the benchmark comparisons, the S4 beats Tegra 3 in most of them. Some will argue that Tegra 3 wins in some benchmarks, so the difference is probably marginal, either way. But S4 may win for battery life, and Tegra 3 is also having lots of issues on the One X (as you mentioned).

I have the international One X. If I had a choice, I'd go with S4 over Teg3. It's a much more modern and efficient chip and from benchmarks performs almost equally. Battery life on the One X so far is pretty terrifying where the One S with the S4 chip seems to fare much better (but it doesn't have a mammoth display either). The international One X is also experiencing some bizarre graphics and performance issues which are probably Teg3 related as the Asus Prime had similar issues until it received a couple of updates. Since LTE is now integrated in to the SoC the One XL should probably have the best battery life of any LTE device currently available.

The Snapdragon S4 which is a Cortex A15 level SOC and a new micro architecture is more powerful. In most tasks the Snapdragon S4 will be the faster of the two. And in quite a few head to head tests, the S4 literally destroys The Tegra 3. The Tegra 3 is a Cortex A9. Like comparing a old Core 2 Duo to a Intel Sandy bridge chip.
The one XL with the snapdragon S4 will most likely be the fastest SOC CPU wise probably until next year or late this year other than other phones running that chip. There isn't a Cortex A15 due on the horizon until that time later this year. OMAP 5 will be such a SOC. And even it will probably be only on par with the snapdragon S4 not out gun it. And than you have the Exynos 5250 which is a quad core cortex A15 later this year or next year. But than again Qualcomm has the Snapdragon S4 Pro, a quad-core A15 level chip to match it.
That means the Galaxy S3 will still be most likely running a 32nm-based Cortex A9 Exynos mobile processor, the Exynos 4212. The Exynos A15 based 5250 will not be ready until later this year. There is a slight chance it will make it into the Galaxy S3 but the chances are slim since they have not produced any in any numbers for production and the S3 will be released soon. The Exynos 4212 is similar to the Tegra 3 but with a better GPU.
The iphone 5 will run the A5X a dual core Cortex A9 with a quad core GPU at 32nm. Again, older microarchitecture.
So essentially the Snapdragon S4 will make the One Xl one of the most powerful if not the most powerful smartphone for the foreseeable future. Regardless of the Samsung S3 and the iphone 5 if they run the above mentioned SOC's. Which most likely they will.
Hardware wise the One xl will have few equals. Other than the 16GB of memory, it is a beast.
There are some reports of issues with the One X international version connecting properly to AT&T's HSPA network, despite having the proper band compatibility (850/1900 MHz). Also, Tegra 3 is having some video corruption and other issues.
I too was slightly considering the international version for use on AT&T, due to the increased storage, and potentially more developer support. And also probably better battery life by using HSPA instead of LTE. But the issues with the international version so far have me deciding against it.
I was worried about the 16 gb storage as well until i used the one XL for the few days that I actually had in our offices. Dropbox is so tightly integrated with The OS that you don't even know that you don't have more than 16 GB on the phone that's how integrated it is.
I uploaded a bunch of photos to the gallery and every time I went to the gallery to retrieve them they were instantly they're like the pictures were on the memory the whole time! don't worry you have plenty of space as long as you keep your photos and videos to drop box. and 25gb is plenty

Watch out the size of the mobile. It is just 2/3rd size of galaxy r. You need the bigger display to enjoy ics, surf, games etc. My friend recently bought in poorvika Chennai. They did not have the dummy piece and asked him to pay before they open the box and show the piece. I don't like the physical buttons and design. Those spaces could have been used for display.

It depends on expectations, it's clearly a successor of HTC legend, and it has its advantages and disadvantages. User interface is pretty nice, u cannot even compare ****ty tw style. HTC tries at least make some modification in their ui, not like sammy. I can bet that camera is not worse than ours. Unibody feels more sturdy and solid. And think that not everyone is an android freak that likes huge and fast devices. But even here devs interest will be most possibly much bigger than in case of sgr. If the price is good I think it's worth to consider.

Wow...that's really hard to believe, but if it's true then I'm really impressed.
Well, I have never used any of the flagship devices by samsung for any extended periods of time.
But my experience with Galaxy R and Galaxy SL have NOT been amazing.
Reflashing firmwares. Wiping cache. Spending hours on google researching the problem you are having.
Never a samsung again for me.
My next device would be either a HTC or a Sony.
Mine experience is far away from being amazing but it's ok, everything has worked as it should. The only thing that bothers me is lack of both samsung's and devs' support for SGR.
I would never buy a "poorer brother" of a flagship model ever again. IT turned out to be an unwanted child. Next one will be a flagship - due to best support from each side, even the older one like SGS2....but most probably will be a Nexus.

HTC finally launched One S in Asia, but with S3 instead of S4 which is overclocked to 1.7GHz. How do you think overclocking the processor will help and to what extend. I suppose it will be faster than normal 1.5GHz S3 processor. But how much does overclocked S3 fall behind S4? How will it affect the applications? I'm plannin to buy HTC One S, only ones available here comes with S3...excited, yet not sooo happy bout S3 processor. Any inputs and thoughts are welcome.!
There are a few threads on this. It does not perform nearly as well as the S4, and the S4 has already been OC'd to 1.8GHz-2.0GHz. The only thing the S3 has going for it is slightly improved battery life.

Nope, the S3 gets less battery... Where did you hear that?
And my question here is:
How much of a difference there is, when spoken in real-life usage and terms.
The benchmark is quite different, but in reality?
Would i lose a lot when getting a S3?
My dilemma is, that my carrier has only S3 handsets and through them i can get an S3 basicly free, cause my employer would pay most of the monthly pay.
But i could get a S4 variant which i would have to pay myself, around 20€/month.

Since i am quite the enthusiast and have high standards, is the S4 worth paying for like that?

I definitely notice the difference between the s3 in my amaze and the s4 in my One S.
My Amaze at 1.5ghz got toasty, I would hate to see it at 1.7ghz. Let alone the extra juice or would suck up.

It roughly translate to "I definitely notice the difference between the S3 in my amaze and the S4 in my One S. My Amaze running at 1.5ghz becomes very hot. I would hate to see how hot it becomes running at 1.7ghz in the One S. I would also hate it see how much extra battery life it would consume. "

I'm not an American but I don't have any problem to read it. It's all around the mythic word - I hate S3.
I definitely notice the difference between the s3 in my amaze and the s4 in my One S(I started to hate S3). My Amaze at 1.5ghz got toasty(I do hate S3), I would hate to see it at 1.7ghz(I very hate S3). Let alone the extra juice or would suck up(I'm against S3 now).
What is the point of this thread? It is obvious that an S4 is better than the S3. I mean why the hell would they upgrade to a lesser chip? Why would HTC and Samsung put the S4 in their flagship devices? Only reason the S3 is in the One S in some countries is costs and supply.
Stop trying to convince yourself there is no difference. Sorry about your luck in availability where you live.

It is due to shortage of the chips that are produced. The need for Flaghip phones is greater then the capability of producing S4 chipsets. So HTC has decided that asians and eastern-europeans are inferior people who do not deserve the better one.
I consulted with my carrier product manager and he said(few days after consulting with HTC) that to estonia there will never be (offically) available the S4 chipped models.

I confirm you in all HK/TW forums we indeed treat HTC as a racist company. We have support by facts in this case. HTC isn't going to tell us it's a S3 until people found it out and they don't lower the price, they sell you a S3 with S4 price. The price here at HK is even higher than Xperia S by US$13, strange enough. The worse case is HTC TW official replied the S3 is as great as S4....lol
There are some HTC fans who still buy the One S(S3) in Taiwan while in HK/China, I see no one going to get it, I've never seen one who equipped with One S in the street. I could tell you most shops here refuse to sell it too.
Its not just Asia, Australia also got stuck with the S3.

Hi All, is anyone kind enough to tell how to tell the phone is S3 chip or S4 chip?

On the box, it says the GHz of the phone. 1.5GHz is S4, 1.7GHz is S3 I believe, might want to double check that though.
Here in Serbia carrier that sells HTC One S received only phones with S3 processor, but you can find S4 in stores, it's just without any carrier plan (free sale), and it's too expensive that way in my opinion.

Find info where it states Model at back of phone's box. If you see Z560e then it's S3 inside, but if you see Z520e - it's S4 processor.
Cheers.
I was in the same dilemma living in Asia and being from one of the countries where the S4 is being sold. What I did was get a friend from Australia to buy me on the Aussie website "topbuy" for 499 dollars (and they sell the S3 version for over 600 US dollars in the country where I live. Unbelievable). Good deal and still got the better version with 1 year Aussie warranty.

I bought Z520e at US$450 without warranty in Hong Kong.
Hi,
For those who had both can I ask your opinion? Should I switch the rogers (same as AT&T) version of the One X for a international version with Tegra 3?
I really like the tegra 3 chipset and the extra memory.
Please let me know,
Let's see
The Tegra 3 chip based phone has more build quality issues, worse battery, no LTE, worse audio.
Nah. Not for me.
I would, but solely because I'm a flashaholic and I'm not holding my breath for LTE here in the Philly area.

No LTE (so Cal area) and build quality issues? Heck no, for me at least. Not to mention the battery life difference. I keep chargers everywhere just to keep my S4 alive.

If you are having battery life issues with your S4, then you've got something else going on. I would see if you're having any wake lock issues or a rogue app that's killing your battery. Try a factory reset. It's widely known that the S4 version has far superior battery life than that of the Tegra 3.

I ordered one from Amazon. I had instant buyers remorse and since I couldn't cancel the order I had to return it as soon as it arrived. I opened it and booted the phone up just to check it out.
It was kind of a scary experience and I won't be ordering an unlocked phone from Amazon again. What I got was a T-Moble (germany) branded HOX. Complete with Their boot logos and bloatware.
I didn't even use it to make a call or anything. It just seemed "off" to me.

Why do you like the Tegra3 chip? Cause everyone says its so good?
The extra memory is a plus though, I use DropBox a lot however. Might not work for most but I keep all my movies there.

I sold my international HOX and went with the XL. Even though the T3 is supposed to be faster in certain circumstances, the S4 with LTE is snappier, less lag, faster data transfer (even with HSPA+; almost no latency), and battery life is almost double (I sh*t you not). All we need is kernel source and the XL will be the device to have. I do miss the 32gb storage but can manage without it. Go with the XL, you won't regret it.

Thanks for all your replies.
I like the Tegra3 version because of all the exclusive games and extra storage. Having 16gb is a pain but as you said I can manage with dropbox and box.com.
Maybe i'll just get the nexus 7 for the games.
Thanks
Best of both worlds that way. It's what I'm going to do.

exactly. I'm getting the nexus 7 for games as well. I had the Tegra 3 version before getting the rogers one x. The battery life was ****. turn on the phone at 7 am and was nearly dead by 3 pm. now with the rogers one x I can actually last 1 full day without charging.

Qualcomm should be very proud of the S4. Imagine quad core version of this chip drool.
hi everyone, first of all, excuse my poor english..
i need your advice as a friend of mine offers me a trade, he offers his unlocked gsm galaxy nexus + 30 dll for my at&t unlocked HOX... i know the hox has better hardware, but ive read a lot of good comments of the nexus.. so what do you thing? is the hardware of the nexus a limitation? i used to play a lot of 3D games...
is the nexus on JB faster than the hox on JB too?
thanks!!

i like the sense launcher but it all comes down to what you like you need to decide which phone you like the best
i think the battery its almost the same.. (1800 vs 1750 mha) the screen on HOX its amazing but i like the SAMOLED too.. screen size almost the same (1.7 vs 1.65, pie controls on nexus) same ram, both on JB.. much better CPU/GPU on dualcore HOX... BUT idk if the nexus, with its optimization is better for gaming, social networking, every day use...or the S4 snapdragon beats the JB optimization on the nexus

Several people have now said keep the One X. Nobody here says take the Galaxy Nexus. So at least from this demographic, the opinion is pretty clear.
But also remember that this is not an objective place to ask this. For the most part, if we didn't like or love this phone, we wouldn't be hanging out in this forum.
Our One X pretty much smoked everything that came before it for CPU performance. So if performance is what you are looking at, getting the GN is probably a bad bet.
