Question about straight talk - General Questions and Answers

I'm moving to straight talk soon, and on their website when you choose a sim card you can pick either an att sim or a sim for unlocked phones. What is the difference. I thought all unlocked phones work on att and vice versa.

Since you never got an answer just choose the AT&T SIM, that way the phone doesn't need to be unlocked if you are using a normal AT&T device.

So any overseas unlocked device will work on ATT? Like an international hox and sgs3?

I am unfamiliar with StraightTalk and what it is, but generally an AT&T sim card only works on AT&T and an unlocked phone works with any sim card ready carrier, which would probably also include AT&T. I think you then need to go get the sim card from the carrier, or at least have it activated by them.

Adding Verizon to Network Operators?

I unlocked my MyTouch 4g (Glacier) and I want to use my Verizon sim card in it but it does not detect Verizon in the network operators. How do I get verizon on there? Is it possible? I thought unlocking it would allow me to do this.

Verizon does not use 'SIM' cards
as 'SIM' cards are used for GSM networks and Verizon is a CDMA provider

I did google this extensively. The phone that I have here is on the verizon network and has a sim card. Why would I make that up?

Verizon is a CDMA network. The SIM card is there because the phone you have also has a GSM radio for traveling overseas. However, just because it says "Verizon" on the SIM card doesn't mean your phone connects to Verizon when you roam. It's actually connecting to Vodafone when you're roaming in most countries. That's what the SIM card slot is for. Now if you unlocked that phone, you could use it on T-Mobile or AT&T if you set it to GSM Mode.
That Verizon phone will work in the US and Canada whether or not that SIM card is in there. It's impossible to get a GSM phone (your MyTouch 4G) to work on a CDMA network (Verizon).

This has been asked before and the answer is still the same
Verizon - CDMA Carrier
TMO - GSM carrier
Two different radio's. You can use an unlocked TMO tab and use it on AT&T (Another GSM carrier).. The Verizon tab shouldn't have a SIM card in it. Unless it is a World tab or LTE. In the LTE case, only the 4G is sim controlled, the 3G is controlled by the CDMA radio.
Verizon:
Frequencies and Data Type Digital: (CDMA/PCS)/1x, EVDO Rev A, LTE (Band 13 only)
Tmobile
Frequencies and Data Type GSM: 850/900/1800/1900
So your answer is no.....

I believe you answer is just partially correct. My Verizon Tab has a SIM slot. I currently own a Verizon Iphone 4S, Iphone 5 and Samsung S3. Used to own BB Tour, Storm, Bold, HTC Incredible 2, HTC rezound. After unlock, all of them (they have both CDMA and GSM) can be used with any SIM card. That why Verizon called them Global Phones. I also believe that the Samsung S3 is LTE phone with SIM card slot and I have no problem to use it with my TMO SIM card

My US Cellular S3 had a SIM card too, but USCC is a CDMA phone. The SIM card was for 4G LTE only as USCC is a CDMA carrier. Some of the BB was "World Phones" meaning that they had 2 radio's in them, 1 CDMA when you was in the USA, the other was GSM when you traveled outside the USA but could not be used inside the US unless it was (the GSM part) unlocked. I know there are some other Android "World Phones" I had the Motorola Electrify, I think it's counter part on Sprint had a different name. There was a few more on USCC that was World Phones, They had dual radio's. But the S3 and Note 2 didn't. But I would guess that it could be possible that Verizon's variation could be different. I never looked that close. But if there is a way to unlock it and use it on a GSM network, then do a search, the phone is old enough to have already been unlocked, and a search would turn it up if it was. If your search comes up negative, then you will have your answer.

Thx for your reply. My Verizon Samsung S3 was unlocked by Verizon (by agreement from verizon with FCC) as they did with Iphone 5 (can be considered as factory unlock). Both of them can be used with GSM carrier here but not the Iphone 4S (for abroad use only even it is unlocked by Verizon).
I searched and have not seen any solution for unlock the Samsung Tab I705 in US but there are unlock code for sale for I705 in Europe and in Asia. I checked the I705 specifications but only see LTE 700Mhz, Class 13 (as you stated) in your previous post. Same thing with Verizon Samsung S3 I535 but I can use S3 with TMO sim. That is the reason I want to find out anyway we can unlock I705 (Tab 2) to use with SIM card for GSM carrier. Anybody can help?
DAMN!
I was looking for the same thing!

yes it can be done
I know that the verizon galaxy tab 2 can be unlocked. A friend of mine had verizon do it by claiming they where traveling outside the country, and it works on T-Mobile just fine. because it does have both radios. PLUS i want it for the LTE anyways and it does work for the t-mobile LTE. problem for me is that i no longer have an account with verizon so they will not give me the unlock code for the tablet so i need another way to unlock it.... can i do this by rooting it and putting a customer ROM or does that no effect that portion of the tablet.

I have Samsung Tab E Verizon SM-T567V it's Global and 4G supported with a dedicated sim slot. How to sim unlock it???

[Q] Using Sim Card Slot

SO can I use the Sim card slot for an GSM Carrier? with maybe a Mod? Not sure if I can since its I think one of the first LTE phones that Verizon got. YES I know Verizon is CDMA but phones like the S3, and S4 I pop my AT&T sim in and it works 100%,
It won't work on the Charge. There have been no successful carrier changes for the Charge.

TracFone sim capabilities

So, my first question, is a Verizon HTC one m8 unlocked already?
Second, is there a way to use a TracFone sim card in it?
And last, would I have to change APN settings?
UPDATE
For anyone who wanted to know you can use a TracFone sim in thephone but it needs to be a LTE card.

Unique Situation S6 SM-g920a

So I had a boost phone that recently broke. It had a sprint sim card. My mom got a new phone and gave me her S6 SM-g920a. I had to go online to get it unlocked. Upon unlocking it and it not working I called att. They told me it wasn't compatible. Ok.. So then I read on xda if you root it there's a way you can unlock it for my sim. Cool. Problem is my computer fried the other week. No oden no flashing nothing. My questions - Is it true rooting it will really make the sim compatible? And can you root this phone using no oden or even computer?
Thanks in advance
Not really.
The S6 SM-G920A is an AT&T phone (the A at the end of the model indicates AT&T model) so it uses GSM technology and can work with only a GSM SIM card.
Boost and Sprint are both CDMA networks, this means they use CDMA technology.
So, your phone, previously from AT&T, recognizes only GSM bands. Whereas Boost and Sprint use other bandwidths.
Check your phones and networks bads here and see if they really are compatible: https://www.frequencycheck.com/carriers/at-t-united-states
If their not, then you could use this phone only with GSM networks, such as AT&T, T-Mobile, Cricket, MetroPCS
Well that's just disappointing. Thank you very much for your help though
