Keep recovery zip? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I used to have this flashable zip file for ICS that removed a file which made the recovery "sticky". But I seem to have lost it, does anyone know where I can find it?

You need:
Framework-res
Twframework-res
SystemUI
Where have you found the file?
In the 2.3.6 thread? If yes thats the reason why it isn't working
This one is for 2.3.5

There is no "stock" CWM. Have you installed FeaMod Recovery?
If you have the stock recovery-mode, then its completely ordinary, that it wont work, because this is no CWM.
EDIT: You can find twframework-res.apk under /system/framework/.
ok..
and is it a lot work to install FeadMod??
I thougt it would work becouse i can root mu device with this..
EIT: just tried to flash the zip file, and it says completed.
rebooted my phone, but nothing changed
So... i need feadmod.
I saw a topic about this and it's a little much for me have blicked my phone one time so.... little scared.
i think i just wait for rom manager and that stuff.
Makes everything much easier

+1
you do need a custom CWM.
That's the reason why you get the error
Sent from my GT-I9001 using XDA App
did you use the in-build recovery or the CWM version? The zip file comes from the kitchen doesn't work in the in-build recovery. You have to update the updater-script file
If you go to the recovery and find it shows"Android system recovery <3e>", then it's the in-build recovery
WORKAROUND if flashing doesn't change anything:
1. Reboot into recovery (CWM Recovery!)
2. Manually mount /system and /data from recovery menu ("Mounts and Storages")
3. Flash the UOT file
Can you just flash feadmod with odin as a one package or is there more to do?
I saw somthing as you need to make a backup and stuff?
In the FeaMod thread every of your questions was asked before. Please read a bit in the threads and think about it.

I don't think that will help.
I flash the zip file from UOT on my GF's 9003 in CWM and also aborted.
The CWM is the one comes with CF-ROOT-DXKP9-Ext4-With-Extra-06-11-2011.
Later I update the updater-script and then it works.
Haha...finally i got it! Its way to simple!!!!

But it gives me a massage with "installation aborted"
How do i flash the zip file?
Do i need something to do with the script?
so yes can u tell me what i need to do with it?
Thnx
just extract the zip file and replace the files using any root explorer

[Q] Converting Zip to MD5

How do I convert roms into an md5 file I can use to flash via odin? Everytime I download rom i get a zip folder with meta, system and updates folders as well as a few other files but no md5 file ????
You can't convert a zip file to an md5. One is a container and the other is a checksum. Try Mobile Odin or install from zip via CWM
md5 is hash to verify content.. if u don't have it .. create it ..
[email protected]
I cant install with CWN as I have the Samsung Galaxy S 4g, the only way to flash this phone is with odin. Does anybody know when someone will convert any roms to use with on this phone yet?? Feels like I have been waiting on a release for ever and dont know how to convert the zip to md5 myself.
.....and using odin mobile requires root ....the reason why i am trying to flash a custom rom to begin with is to get root in the first place?!

another Question,
how i can get S5360_XXKK6_OXXKK2_XXKK5 or S5360XXKK6_REV05 as CWM ZIP ROM ?
It's easy! f you have Windows...
All you have to do is rename the file. Right Click > Rename, then change the file extension to zip. Delete md5 and type zip. Now you can open it by .zip
You can do the same with he .img files that's in the new zip. Want to change it back? Do the opposite.
Hope it helped, hit a :good: for me please! I'm kind of new. Thanks.

Like i said, change the extension to .zip and unzip the contents in your new zip file from your md5.
I backed up my stock rom from twrp recovery mode. Now i cant restore it.
Is there any way i can install the stock rom again
What
Of course you can guys its a bit of a hassle but you convert the .zip to a .tar download the tar converter tar-Tool_Odin3-v3.07_by_mkh.mourad I forgot where I got it from but search it its here then run the batch with that converted tar wholla .tar.md5 file just used it for a modem
ok so then if im using odin how am i sopposed to flash it because in order to flash a stock rom or any rom i need to to be in md5 or tar so if its zipped how should i do it
You can do so
You can convert to tar from zip via 7-zip there is vedio about it on YouTube

status 0 error comes due to bad binaries file. Just update binaries of that zip or give a shot from CWM 6.0.1.1.

For updation of binaries->Just extract any CWM File of Galaxy R at your PC/mobile. It will show 2-3 folders. Go to Meta-info folder->In the end of Folders you will see 2 files. one is Update script & second is Update-binaries. These Wrong update binaries become problem of Status 0.
For flashing CWM 6.0.1.1-> Flash This file using CWM
Just click "Show Content" if you think you are Newbie.

Buddy, I have given then CWM 6.0.1.1. extract the inside files. Just follow the above process ( Copy paste of Update-binary file).
MJ buddy, I think we must create the Status error thread with solution coz its so hard to make understand "HOW TO" for the same.

Mj asked me to flash the CWM zip that u gave me so thats exactly what i did. I flashed the zip via CWM and then tried flashing the other zip files(which had failed earlier) and it didnt work. So to be clear - u want me to extract the zip u provided and replace the binaries in the zips(whose flashing failed) with the one from CWM 6.0.1.1 ? and then compress it into zip format (via winzip or winrar). Am i right ?

Yes buddy, so instead of compressing it, just use Winrar. open both files (i.e. error one & CMW)-> Delete update binaries file from Error one-> extract File (update binaries) from CWM.-> Just Drag & drop using mouse the extracted file to Error Ziped file-> Just press ok whatever Winrar says(it will add it in the file)-> Flash that error file now & report.
@MJ, i think you have made a thread regarding CWM errors..??

Stock ROM yes but i use CWM recovery for all practical purposes. As all zips are given in CWM flashable formats including ones as basic as Superuser.zip . Currently I am on X-perience ROM and im using CWM 6.0.1.1. before which i was using CWM 5.5.x

Busybox 1.21.1 Flashable zip???

Hi,
I hope this is the right place to ask this, I'm looking for a Busybox 1.21.1 zip file to install by flashing via CWM on my HTC One S (S4). For some reason i can't install Busybox from the app downloaded from the market, so i believe this is probably the best way to do so. (unless someone else knows a better way, which would be appriciated)
I've searched here and only found one that has SuperSU bundled with it, i only need Busybox as i already have Super SU installed and updated to the latest version.
Thanks

Thanks for the reply. I deleted the supersu.apk and the su file. When i tried to flash the zip file, it gave me an error (status 6) and the installation aborted.
I haven't had a problem flashing via CWM before so i'm unfamiliar with this error. Does it have something to do with the zip file i'm using?

Is there a noticable difference between TWRP & CWM that warrant changing it? I've assumed CWM is the better recovery as it seem the more popular.

I have a look soon and see what I can do. TWRP is the better recovery and you can use goo manager to flash it for you but you are a bit better off getting version 2.3.3.0.
OK thanks, I might try it out. How do I go about switching from CWM to TWRP? I'm guessing you can't just flash it as its a recovery file.

[Q] Re-Zipping a ROM

I'm replacing the Update-Binary in a rom .zip because I'm having issues with getting anything to flash so this is what I'm trying next ..
My question is, will re-naming 123rom.zip to 321rom.zip hurt anything ? I'm thinking it will make the md5 different, so is that OK ? or will it even flash ?
I was just wanting to differentiate the name of the zips on my computer so that I know what I've changed and what I haven't..
Thanks for any insight.

If you don't alternate the content of the zip and just simply change the name of the zip, then should be fine.

Swapping the update binary is altering the content, so the md5 should be different.
Renaming is only an issue when changing CWM backup names. It will cause a md5 mismatch error.
