[Q] Xomm usb host mode - General Questions and Answers

I wonder if there is a way to enable usb host mode on my xoom, and use a mouse, gamecontroller etc. without an otg cable?

[Q] Does The XOOM Have USB Host Functionality?

I know there is a hack for it to be enabled, and I know that Honeycomb 3.1 has this built-in, but I want to make sure that it comes on the XOOM before I buy it. Meaning, can I get a Micro-USB to USB adapter and use things like USB Mouse and flash drive?
USB host is native to Honeycomb 3.1. You will need a USB host cable or the Motorola camera connection cable. Most adapters do not have all 5 pins wired out to enable host mode recognition from the xoom. But yes, it works out of the box.
It wont work out of the box to read thumb drives. It will read mice cameras keyboards.
You have to root to read external thumb drives and hard drives.
Rooting is on my todo list anyway.

[Q] USB Host

Anyone think our phones might be able to open up USB host mode? I have an OTG cable sitting here and would love to be able to use it on my phone.

[Q] Kayboard Dock USB port

I just bought USB type A to Type A cable with hope to be able to view the share folder in my Asus TF700 via keyboard dock however I could not get it work. These are the tests:
1. use USB type A to type A cable connected between tf700 keyboard dock's USB port and my PC USB -> NOT working, unable to detect any storage folder
2. use portable HDD and connect it to the tf700 keyboard dock's USB port - NO PROBLEM. the TF700 is able to detect my USB storage
3. use the original USB charger (40 pin) cable from Asus and connect the other end (USB) to my PC. NO PROBLEM it works and this is how I transfer the files so far.
Does anyone know if the test 1 above should work?
thanks
I do not think it should work, because the USB port on our dock is a USB Host -- it's designed to make USB memory and external harddisks available to the system, not the other way around. That's why the 40-pin interface does that.

[Q] Theoretical question

Theoretical question:
While in console mode, is it possible to have the following accessories attached at once?
1. Mini hdmi out
2. Usb hub
3. Ethernet
4. External hard drive
5. External power (obviously running through usb hub) or charger
6. Bluetooth controller
Thanks in advance
I have not tried it myself, but it should work, as long as the hard drive works with it at all.
I got:
HDMI
USB mouse
USB keyboard
USB pendrive
via OTG attached at once. Haven't tried USB power and Ethernet cable yet.

ADB / USB Debugging

Ok, so these devices have two USB host sockets hanging out of them on wires. But we also know that there is a "password" to enable USB debugging.
I've tried using a USB-A plug to USB-A plug cable for hooking up USB debugging, but of course, the USB port on the device is in HOST mode.
Anybody know how to tell the USB mode to switch to slave?
