Sorry for the double post. I had posted this in the vibrant section by accident. I think it would be best placed here. Anyway. A gtalk widget, One that shows the last 2 or 3 messages and has the ability to answer back. It could look like a twitter widget in all actuality.
Anyone know of one or have the knowledge to make one? I would pay and im sure others would too.

This is a great idea. I know I would use it as I mainly GTalk, not text.
Yeah, I never use texts. All of my contacts and I use gtalk. Is there anyone out there with enough coding knowledge to do it? I'm sure it would be profitable. Gtalk is built into almost every Android device that I've seen and having a widget would be awesome.
Bump!!! I'd love a widget!! I pretty much only use gtalk
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
There is a demand for it. I'm sure of it. I am not a coder and I wish I was. Argh.
Final bump. I guess this is just not meant to be. Imagine a widget like this with gtalk, aim, facebook, msn, etc. A dev could charge 99 cents and make thousands.
Oh well.
BUMP: Seriously, why isn't there a Gtalk widget of any sort? I primarily only use Gtalk instead of texting and I would love to reply without going into the app.
Money can be made here people! If I was a developer, I would be all over this. We have billions of battery/calendar/clock apps but the one thing that hasn't been touched is something as common as Gtalk. I would definitely pay for something like this.
Also bump. This is a great idea.
bump. a gtalk widget would be great!
Love this idea!

I think without hacking the google talk apk the only way to do this would be to write a independent app with the google talk api.
So you would have to use that app instead of gtalk and maybe not have it integrated into android as well.
Buba BUMP. Please someone create this app, I am really surprised there is nothing out there. Come on Google get your finger out ya @#*
I knew there would be a market for this!
I really wish I knew how to code, this would be the first thing I would make.
Any takers? I don't know how hard it would be to make, but there are people willing to pay.
One last bump for bumps sake.

Hi..
Why android don't have Microsoft Windows Live Messenger ??
It's because we don't have it yet.
You could use jabber with transports.

WM have it
iOS have it

Cause Live is controlled by MS. Blackberry and Symbian have little market share, iOS and Android kick WM/WP7's ass. So MS wants Live users to stick with WP7. All clients for iOS use reverse engineered protocol specs IIRC

iOS has an official M$-signed app for this. As far as I know, Android unfortunately doesn't.
I'm currently looking for an MSN app, but I'm picky, since it needs to support MPOP without changing my profile picture and status message with their own.

Try MSN talk or MSN talk pro. Works great with all needed features.

One of my friend's and I text a lot (well, we did) until her dad noticed we were texting at late hours and he blocked my number on her phone....so she cannot send texts to me and my texts don't get to her. This was all while she had a "dumb" phone, but recently she got an SIII.
Is there any way to get around this now that she has a smartphone? I'm talking about regular texts and not having to use a special app (i.e. Facebook, Skype, etc.) to send texts back and forth. She is currently unrooted and thus running stock JB obviously.
Would rooting do the trick? A certain rom out there maybe? Or is there some sort of process one can do to "unblock" my number on her phone?
Uggghh. I hate that I will have to be that dad one day soon. Thank God I am smart enough to thwart you young men.

Haha if I had a daughter Im sure I'd be doing the same thing....
But there has gotta be a way/hack/fix around it....
I am assuming that the block is on the account side, meaning she would need the vzw.com account password to unblock. If it was done on the phone itself I would imagine a factory reset would remove the block. Why dont you want to use third party apps like whatsapp? Some apps (can't think of names) can send free texts to legit cell numbers.

A Factory Reset on an unrooted, fully stock S3 will fix it you think? What about her apps? Does Titanium Backup work fully on unrooted, stock phones? I haven't been unrooted in a longggggg time.
Can't you just use an app like tikl or tango just to sent the texts. I know you said no third party apps but they are free and if they work sounds much easier than having her root and find a hack.

I know they are free and I know that we could text that way.....the reason why I want to be able to send regular texts to/from our regular numbers is because I tether constantly, every day, and my phone stays in the window for the strongest LTE connection and I use Airdroid to view and send texts from my phone while on my pc......can't do that with a 3rd party app, I'd have to get up every single time to view/respond to the texts....

Not if she gets a third party texting app that allows her to text your number from the app and vice versa.

We are trying that now with Pinger...her sending me a text from her Pinger # to my regular cell number.....but surprisingly its not working....Is this the method you were talking about?
Do you know of another app that will actually work in this way?
Well we got it to work for the time being via the HeyFree app.
Soo many third party apps will work.
Factory reset, root, custom rom will have no effect.
And what are you guys like 11? Haha got her dad blocking your number, I'm weak.

I second that. It seems best to use Google Talk or Facebook Messenger.... then you guys can be "chatting" but you can just do it from your desktop browser and she can do it on her phone.
OP, I saw you have another thread started trying to help this girl get around something else her father set up regarding the use of her phone. Let me, as the father of a 23 year old daughter, give you a little piece of advice.
He has blocked your number from texts and stopped her data at 10:30pm. He is doing that for a reason and apparently doesn't like you very much either. I understand that you think you are trying to help her, but what you are doing is causing yourself more problems with the dad. I am guessing that neither of you are very old, hence the curfew on the data. You are looking for "hacks" to get around what he has done to, what he thinks is for the betterment of his daughter. You would be better served to work on your relationship with him than to really piss him off by going against him. Just remember, Daddy's little girl is his entire world that he would gladly die for and you are going to get into more trouble that you can imagine or would ever want to be in by messing with her and his wishes.
My advice would be to get onto his good side if you haven't already screwed that up and you may find the "hacks" that you are looking for. Alternatively, you could put another phone on your plan and give it to her for texting. Good luck and remember that some things cannot be undone after you do them........
Seems like Google Voice could be a good solution.... You get a different phone # and you can send/receive texts from any PC at voice.google.com
I would say hhf2 had the best idea and option for you. You may not like it but it is the truth.

That is actual VERY incorrect. While a boy you would consider your little "mini me", a daughter is your princess. The biggest concern is that they are healthy. Sure there are things that a guy wants a son for, but make no mistake about it, there are things that you are just as proud of with a daughter.

Have any of you guys tried the boomerang app? Is it as good as Mailbox? Does it deserve more hype?

Well it is Gmail only for now but I expect support for other mail services and exchange is coming soon.
K9 Mail is great. I have been using it for some time now and don't have any problems with it. It supports multiple accounts and also has a unified inbox which is really useful.

not the Apple Mail app, but the Mailbox app
i use gmail, i also have a yahoo mail account that i sometimes use, but their app is not as good as gmail
(i tend to use official apps, not apps from third party)
Having come from iOS, this is one of the few apps I miss. This and Sunrise. Apparently there is a version in the works for Android. I don't get why people are so lazy with android apps? Are they much harder to create or something?
I've been using K9 mail ever since I began using android devices and it has never steered me wrong. I am able to manager 3 gmail accounts and 1 hotmail account flawlessly.

Anyone have a way for us rooted blokes to get an imessage hack? Many people I know have iPhone and it would rock if I could have that functionality. I know the old app mimicked an iPad mini for it to work any ideas ?

no idea how that would work at imessage isn't an open source app and goes through apples servers to work which means it would need some kind of ID

There is an application out there for android that is supposed to do all that but you need an apple ID and password and it goes through some servers in China before going to apple so I'm not sure it would be worth it.
You can read about it here:

Honestly, it would be irresponsible to share it. I remember when it was doing the rounds, and it did actually work but it sent every IM, sent AND received, to and from a server in China. The privacy concerns are obviously high, not just for the Android user but primarily for the unaware iOS user.
I don't think that kind of thing should be encouraged on XDA.

Yeah, that app also had the ability to download apps in the background. There was a some saying that since it went through that server in China, it could have have the possibility to steal data from Apple IDs. Like credit card numbers. Its a shame, because it did work pretty good. Hopefully since Hangouts is on iOS now, maybe someday they'll be nice and bring iMessage to us.
Another solution would be to convert everyone to android so iMessgae would become irrelevant.
