I think the biggest issue is screen rotation, otherwise it SHOULD be a pretty clean port.

I am no dev so I don't want to try, but maybe one of the dev's on this board can reverse engineer Yaldak's Rotation Fix from the T989 forums to work in reverse. Using this rotation fix I ran several ROM's from this board on my T989 with no rotation problems.

Our rotation fix is just adding lib.akm from cm9. I found out by swapping it and then confirmed it with the guys from TWH.

I'm getting some crazy flickering with a stock kernel build and wifi isn't working for me.
Not sure if there are differences on that front, plus it's 4.0.3-based whereas I'm on 4.0.4-based CM9...could be the issue.
Suffice to say its a start and hopefully we'll see some good stuff in the coming days.

Is it the file labeled libakm.so in the lib folder? You called it lib.akm . Just replace that file in whatever T989 ROM with the one from CM9 for the Skyrocket and reboot? If so, can I just do it with the zips on my PC? On PC, would I need to extract both ROMs before swapping the files and then rezip the one I want to use or just do it with both files zipped? Sorry for all the questions and all help will be thanked til I run out of it for the day!!

I'll try it when I get home since work it's hard to manage work and tinkering with phone. I thought it might be either libakm.so or libsensorservice.so, glad to know I was close. I think I wasnt doing something wright copying from the leak or maybe in the confusion i set aside the wrong file.
Also, wifi tethering wont work between the ROMs/Kernels on stock ROMs. I suspect the mix-n-match breaks it because one has driver references that are specific to the chipset.

It looks like the super team of chopsticks is working on building the kernel for the skyrocket from the t989 sources https://github.com/TeamChopsticks/android_kernel_samsung_msm8660-common/commits/ics

I'm either doing something wrong or using the wrong library. Tried from CM9 Alpha and from Sky ICS no luck.

OMG Yay... one bone of contention i've never quite been able to get across in XDA.
I really wish the devs would start simple, then add the mods/removals in steps. I've dealt with enough techs to know its a fatal flaw sometimes with a lot of them.
Don't get me wrong, I respect them and appreciate their hard work on making sure everything works right.

no kernel = dead in the water
Ha well for noob builders like me can use this to our advantage if we ever get a kernel.

I just reset my phone back to stock, using Odin, and added the files perspectively into a Custom Version of UniPorn I have and rezipped it, I'll get back with you to see if it all works or not.. BTW, I also added S Voice to the mix.
In Addition, not sure if everyone else is having the same problem, but I noticed that when I go into recovery and Factory reset all user data, Wipe Cache and Dalvik cache, then Flash a Rom, the Rom will start up no problem, but it'll be like I didn't flash another Rom, it'll load up exactly the way it just was as if I didn't even do a wipe or anything, I've never experienced that, it's really weird. So all that being said, I'm using Odin to go back to stock and see what happens after I finally get back to ICS.. lol..

[Q] Porting MIUI v5

Heya guys! I'm a little new to this but I've been a pretty decent member of XDA and most importantly, like many of us here, a flashaholic. I'm not a dev at all nor do I currently have any abilities, skills or anything to be called one. Anyways, onto topic, I've been trying to port MIUI v5 to the skyrocket because it is one sexy beast from what I can see. Of course, with no skills whatsoever, it's been a very difficult task. I've only been searching and using guides here and there only to run into a wall because there isn't a guide for v5, or at least not yet.
The first time I tried to port it, it wouldn't boot at all and would be stuck at an unresponsive black screen after the samsung logo after powering it on.
However, this made me research a little bit more and I made a second port using the Galaxy Nexus MIUI rom from the official site and using CM 10.1 nightly 20130501. I only managed to make it go to the MIUI boot logo screen and it's stuck there now with no progress and I am now confused. Lol, so uhm... any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated please? I'm willing to learn and would appreciate any help. In the mean time, I'll also continue to research. Thank You!
I believe Team Rookie would be able to help with that, they are in the Development section.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727.
You shouldn't use cm 10.1 to port miui v5, miui v5 is still android 4.1.2 based whereas cm 10.1 is 4.2.2 and on top of that the nightly builds are rather unstable right now. You should use a cm 10 stable build. I have been trying to port the ROM myself and only get as far as the boot animation, but i can tell you mixing bases probably won't work.....

Yes haha I realized after further research in that miui v5 was actually 4.1.2. I am still trying to port it now and still to no avail and only stuck at the boot screen. Perhaps I should learn how to modify the framework. I'm pretty sure that's the only possible problem. But of course I wouldn't know much of where the problem lies xD

The miui script has a bunch of aroma stuff in it. There's also a bunch of additional folders in the miui rom. So I'm debating which script to edit, the miui or the cm10. As far as I know the only way to hard brick one of these phones is to flash a kernel from another device. Soft bricks are easy fixes as long as you know how to use Odin and in some cases all you have to do is reboot to recovery and flag another ROM. That's why I've stuck with Samsung.... easy to flash, easy to fix.....

I am still stuck at the boot screen as well and what I've added to the updater-script were also a few things for the xbin and su and busybox. Since v5 doesn't have an 'invoke-as' I was a little stuck there as well. And to think I was a little happy that it managed to flash and go to the boot screen successfully. Looks like there is a lot more things to do lol

I was hoping no one would ask that I've been piece mealing it and I don't remember all the steps. The miui rom structure is quite a bit different then most. I haven't decompiled any apks though, just putting the right pieces in the right places. A lot more luck than skill. I've also lost the ability to see my external sd card with the computer either thru usb or mounting in recovery. Root explorer still sees it though. Don't know what that's all about.

I just don't think there is a strong want for touchwiz. It would take a lot of work to get it going. I would suggest finding a blaze dev that would do it and get some donations together.
Yeah the chops needed to craft JB TW on the Blaze are well beyond me. I started updating and further tweaking the ICS-based rom I put together, but I'm not a real dev, just a smali-hack sort that focuses primarily on tinkering with carrier-pushed stock packages.

Sure (that's what I was thinking), but it would likely need to be from a similar device (or at least much easier if so) - still out of my skillset though, and from my understanding they can be painful to pull off (disclaimer: never did one so I don't know - the exhilerate one doesn't count as I did next to nothing for it).

Since we don't have JellyBean for the Blaze it wont be "stock" possible. Unless you're okay with a CM themed ROM that makes it look like Touchwiz..
I recall someone working on remics-jb for the blaze.. Forgot who though.. :/

I have a non-booting one. Stuck with some errors (which I've forgotten what they were). If I can find it I might look into it. I haven't been on in awhile so if I my ask. Is there a 4.3 version of Remics-JB floating around?
Well for the blaze.. Not currently... If you're asking about a 4.3 version of Remics-JB, im not sure either, as since the only way i knew about it was cause of my galaxy player, which I traded for store credit.. But I'm sure with all our support, testing and whatnot.. Who's to say we can't get a booting remics-jb ROM? We've made it this far right?
