Hi all,
I tried to install DlnaService.apk from Acer Liquid. All went fine but the moment I tried to share content with my Plasma Samsung 8, even if it recognized my Nexus, it wasn't able to share content.
Anyone had a similar experience?
Wow I didn't even know you can do that with the Nexus, I'm also very interested now.
twonky server works with my samsung only tried pics and music so far, I expect it will be fussy with vids though due to codec support in my tv.
might also work with ps3 dlna too, probably better codec support on that
just fire up the app and press the source/input on your tv remote and it shows up in the menu.
instant android media server
obviously you need both devices on the same network
very cool - no config
Works with the PS3! Wow this is awesome, I'm streaming my mp3s from my Nexus One as I type this =]
Edit: Also works with pictures on the PS3, I don't have any vids on my Nexus or I'd try that also.

Which one? The Acer one or twonky server?
The Acer one you posted above "DlnaService.apk" it plays a bit choppy on the music, but I think that's only because I have them both on wireless.
@irajames1176
Ok...I have to try. With Samsung TV I have probs...
I tried out Twonky Mobile going to a WD TV Live and audio, video and music all worked just fine. Pretty nice little app, actually. Quick and easy way to show some pics you've snapped on your phone.
I know this is an old thread... but now that the Droid X is coming out and has a new DLNA app, has anyone heard of anyone locating it?
Hi,
I'm wondering if the opposite is OK. I mean I want to use my Nexus One to access my DLNA server (Buffalo LinkStation NAS) to pull contents from there and play on N1. Is there any workable solution? Thank you.
That would be good.

I'm looking for something like this too. I have a ****load of stuff on my nas with a dlna server on it, I'd like to be able to connect to it from my phone to listen to my vast music collection.
I am also interested in some kind of a dlna player app, which plays music and videos out of my buffalo NAS (now it is trying to download instead of streaming).
search the market for vlc stream works great with vlc and now i can stream my movies in any format to my nexus one works great, so for ive stream movies in avi, dvix, mkv they all work great have not tryed music yet.

Andromote has a local player built in. It sees my Xtreamer Mk1 set top box but I can't play anything from it.
Also, this DNLA client above isn't seen by my Xtreamer. I blame the crappy UPNP implementation of the Xtreamer. Seems to work right on the Nexus one with my PC though.
Back to running a Samba server on the Nexus for accessing my things from the Xtreamer. Atleast that works great!

Some large Mp3s were also crappy .

I have this app running but it works only as long as the screen is on. When the phone goes to sleep the app cuts out as well though I have my WIFI settings to be Always ON. Is there a way to have the app running though the phone goes to sleep?
Thats the sickest problem with nexus one. I hate it...
Hello. Can anyone recommend a video player that will play mms:// video streams other than yxplayer? yxplayer just locks up on my stream. I am trying to hit a surveillance stream that I have going at my house. The only way I can currently pick up audio is off of my mms:// stream. I'm on wifi when I'm trying to view it, but yxplayer will not play it for anything.
Hi,
I am using xperia x10. But not able to play all video formats on it. Pls help me by providing which player to be downloaded??????
I use Vplayer Alpha for most videos that the default player won't play.
No one has any other option for mms:// video streams other than yxplayer?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=501131
Real Player for Android supposedly can do it, I am getting the info from a CSR now.
http://real.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/7927
I see no option in real player to load a stream. Also myplayer...I can't find it in the android market place. It just says not found.

Well, after following this link (couldn't find it in the android market), searching and downloading myplayer's apk from another location, and side loading it.... it is not what I am looking for. It only streams from some BBC feeds and other live TV stations.
What I need is a program that will let me play live streamed mms:// asf video streams and actually let me select the url for the stream. yxplayer lets me start it, but then it just totally locks up If yxplayer actually worked I would buy that, but I am not having any luck getting it to work with my stream. It's a valid address and the stream works on Windows PCs. I've seen other requests out there too for something that does this, but I haven't found anything that actually works.
hi,
can you find any solution for your problem
I search everywhere I can, but not able to find a real solution
yx player is not stable i guess
Nope. I still have not found anything out there that works to stream mms:// streams. It is amazing to me that there is nothing out there that does this. I was hoping Vplayer beta would do it as they just put out an update with the ability to open a URL, but nope. I am still waiting and looking. If anybody figures out a way to do this let me know. None of the above suggestions work.
Hallo I have an IP camera that does not stream mjpeg but streams only .asf video. the camera is a Linksys WVC54GC.
I've tried about 10 players but the only one that let me stream the video from everywhere (means both from lan and from internet: i.e. 192.168.1.115/img/video.asf and my-ddns:115/img/video.asf[/url])
is VPlayer.
hope it helps...i've fighted a lot before find it...
the only one 'compromise' that I had to do is to make a free access to the camera (no username / no password) because the player is unable to manage usr/pwd access...I hope they will add this feature in next updates...
Hi,
Have you found something what can able play mms streaming ?
Hi, as I wrote before, the only one i've found Is Vplayer...
Have you tried it?
They give one day of free full use, then you have to buy it.
Cheers

I have a 4 TB NAS appliances on our home network loaded with all our family's media. This works great for our other networked devices (blu-ray players, wii, 360, etc) and using the builf in file manager on the G I can map to the NAS. Problem comes whenever it hits some xvid/divx/mpg video files, it just won't play.
Any recommendation of an app that can do media from a network server?
There is a dlna app that comes with the droid x that I don't believe is tied into the framework. I will see if I can link the files for it.

Getting a decent uPnP client is on my list of ToDo's - I'm hoping that we can port the Archos video player over, just for that purpose.
Found a link to the APK, but I haven't tried it yet...
http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/droid-discussions/2818-droid-x-dlna-app.html
<edit> Parse Error: There is a problem parsing this package. when trying to install it via Root Explorer.
<edit2>Copied the link wrong which caused the parse error, APK installs correctly and the app runs fine as a DLNA server. ( I didn't verify connectivity), but it force-closes if you select "Network Settings Set up Wireless Access Points" possibly due to the TnT version of Settings?
either way, it makes your gTablet a server, not a client so you won't be browsing your NAS with this APK...
ah well, looks like we might be waiting for kernel source or a custom compiled kernel to get streaming video.
TheDude
I found an app called UPnPlay in the market that is working really well for me. If you are familiar with the Archos media player this has very similar capability. If you haven't done the market fix you probably won't find it though.
I was just watching a movie streaming from my Windows home server on my G tablet. Played nice.. Took it a few minutes to initially find my server but it did.

Nice tip used it and rockplayer worked perfect
This is a nice app - tried it and it found my media player (PS3MediaServer) fairly quickly. It did crash once, but it's certainly better than nothing.
It plays audio and photos well, but video seems a bit choppy on my setup so far. I have all different types of containers / codecs so I might have to find the sweet spot - Xvid / MP3 / AVI's seem to play best.
Thanks for the find!
No mkv support, but otherwise looks good
Heck, this thing even found our DirecTV HD DVR as well as the uPnP NAS!

I think it's limited by the video player - and MKV support on the GTab is very limited, unfortunately.
Fantastic Find! Thanks Sprdtyf350-
Nice!
This finds my MythTV server. I am able to play .wmv videos on the MythTV server, with the default player. But it is unable to play the MythTV recordings of OTA digital (HDTV). These are a form of mpeg-2 video, similar to what a standard DVD is. If we can find a player that can play DVD files, then I think it will play MythTV recordings too.
ORB LIVE is the answer.
Orb is the Answer to this... if we can make it work.... I use Orblive on my EVO and it works amazingly. I can stream from anywhere and it decodes most files. It runs over Wifi, 3g and if I am on the same network as my server, it goes direct without hitting the Internet. I works GREAT.
But unfortunately, it doesnt work right on my GTAB. This could be specific to my device, but it cannot stream the files. This sucks because this is one of my main uses for buying this device. With Flash fixed, I can stream through the internet via the orb.com webpage. But the App works much better. If anyone that understands the codecs of these things can figure out how to make the orblive app work, it would be amazing.
To the G tablet users using UPnPlay, how do divx files do for seeking/searching? I'm using UPnPlay on my Evo with both Rockplayer and Vplayer and neither searches or seeks particulary well..... or at all. If the video file plays with Androids native video player, it seeks just fine.
I don't want to be forced to always begin playback and the start of the video and not be able to resume where I left off if I have to leave the player/app.
Hi all,
I need some help. I couldn't find any info on my problem in TF forums, hence created a new topic.
The problem is that I can't watch an Online-TV (I use etvnet(dot)com to watch some Russian TV) on my TF. I tried stock player and Mobo player, but both of them can't open the file.
I don't know all the technical details, but I know that the video streams as WMV-file using MMS protocol. Any suggestions on what player can play it?
So far the only way I found was to watch it from my PC using Splashtop HD, however it's kinda slow and works awful in "full-screen" mode.
You can try plex to stream it from your PC to your TF101. Or use handbrake to re-encode it to something that the tf101 can play (search the tf101 forums for handbrake)
It's exciting to see that people have streamed everything from supported games to unsupported games and even PS2 and GC emulators. I have yet to see any mention of streaming something like KMPlayer.
My question is can you do it in some way? I have a very extensive multiple TB collection of all sorts of videos and media, and yes I know I can always transfer things to SD card etc to watch on the shield but the ability to just be able to load up anything anywhere (Thanks to the people that setup instructions to be on outside networks over VPN) and watch my movies with no hassle or even connect it to other peoples TVs would be amazing to me.
In the past I've tried this several different ways but it was never fast enough and even when it was sometimes Soft subs wouldn't work and a no stress solution to that may be possible with the shield.
I haven't tried streaming any media players, but I have a feeling that the controls might present a challenge.
I installed Plex last though and was very impressed. I already had a Plex server running on my Synology NAS, though, so no server setup was necessary.
Plex allows you to stream local or remotely if you set up a myPlex account. If you have the PlexPass as well, you can sync shows to microSD to watch offline.
I imagine XBMC for Android should work fine and mount network drives.
XBMC works for me so far.
I'm using es file explorer and MX video player for a quick to launch streaming media setup. Setup a couple favorites in es file and way you go. From home screen to movie folder I can be there in less than 10 seconds.
I've output HDMI to large TVs and the streaming is excellent.
Well my shield should be arriving Tuesday which I'm extremely excited for. Tried XBMC on my computer and love it not sure why I've never tried this before.
Here's to hoping the audio sync is good when connecting remotely
Try Dice Player, it has SAMBA support, so just need to enter network path and password and you good to go.
I just got my shield and I tried out XBMC I'm not sure if its supposed to be this way but the controller doesn't work with the program and audio isn't being transferred to my shield.
Another problem I have with regular streaming is there seems to be a slight audio delay and I am running the latest shield update (51 i think)

whatever video you can find an app to play. VLC supports most media types (video and audio including formats you probably won't come across) plus it has the most awesome beta software warning ever when you launch it.
I have 2tb WD Live setup on my network. I use the wd2go app and can stream videos from home anywhere I have internet. It works great. You can also download movies to your device then upload them to your network.
I use the Archos video player app on the Shield. Can stream anything I can throw at it from my local network
