I've tried with two different tablets (one stock, and one rooted with CWM) and in neither case does the Terminal app (specifically the Android Terminal Emulator by Jack Palevitch) accept keyboard input. I can launch the terminal, open and close windows, but I cannot get keyboard input to appear on-screen. I've tried a couple of other terminal applications, but all seem to suffer from the same problem. Has anybody else experienced this?
The fix!

I had the exact same problem with my new Samsung Galaxy 2 tablet and Palevitch's Terminal Emulator: nothing I'd type would show up. But I found the fix: "menu > preferences > keyboard > input method > word-based" (courtesy of an app store comment by Yahya). Oddly, the input is still character-based, showing up one letter at a time, rather than word-based as you might expect.
It's funny how the "value-added" Samsung keyboard breaks, while the stock Android keyboard found in cheaper tablets works fine.

Hello, currently I have installed this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jackpal.androidterm and it works perfectly.
My tab2 is 10.1, P5113 rooted
To get the keyboard work go to the apps settings under input method and set it to word based

Hey guys I came accros this really cheap Yarvik tablet, with ICS ...
Price seems amazing its only 229 EUR here in Holland.
Spec sheet ->onyougo.com/manual-yarvik-tab465_pdf_en_12400199.pdf[/url]
Do you guys think this unit will be rootable ?
It does not have the Google Market but GetJar so it would be great to be able to install these and other apps.
I have this tablet tab465EUK. I finding more info about root and ROM change. Google Play not working (force stop, error, I tried three version GPlay).
I got Yarvik GoTab Exxa 9.7, Model TAB465EUK, Android 4.0.3, Kernel [email protected]#61, build 03F2-P1-H02-M01-1594.20120411.
The ROM already has busybox and su installed. Also, all filesystems are mount rw and use of su does not trigger any visual notification.
Hence it is quite easy to install Connectbot, go to "local" and become user on command line.
Also, ES File Explorer acquires the root permission w/o problems.
P.S. This is a pretty dangerous thing, I may try later to replace the su binary w/ superuser.apk so that I get the visual notifications.
P.S.s. Google play from CM7 worked just fine (I just copied vending.apk to /system/apps), I was able to login with my account from Samsung Galaxy S, download and install apps. Sometimes it behaves a bit weird (cannot use "back" key, screen flickers during installation of app), though functionally seems okay.
EDIT: the tablet looks and works quite good. However, the quality control is probably pretty weak. Users complain about poor wifi performance. Mine has problems with sound (headset makes buzzer noise when anything is plugged in to microUSB) and while charging the tablet the touchscreen touches generate randomly placed clicks anywere on the screen. So I probably have my tablet replaced some time later.
Hi everyone,
I am trying to transfer over to my new Nexus 5 32GB photos, videos, and music from my Galaxy S3. I have already copied the files from the S3 to my Macbook Air and am using Android File Transfer to deliver them to my Nexus 5. I find I can only manage a few seconds or so of file transfer before an error message pops up on the phone saying either "Unfortunately, the process android.process.media has stopped" or "Unfortunately, Media Storage has stopped". Then Android File Transfer says it can't access device storage and I have to unplug and reinsert the USB cable to try again. Any ideas as to why this keeps happening?
Thank you,
Jason
I got that a couple times as well transferring over some of my wallpapers from my GS3.
What did you do to resolve the problem? Is it an issue with the Nexus 5 or with the file transfer program?
Thanks.
I gave up on the Mac client except for short transfers of a very limited number of files at a time. Same problems you're seeing. Android File Transfer also doesn't always show an accurate picture of what's really on your SD Card.
If you're comfortable in the (OSX) terminal program using adb push and adb pull works flawlessly, and opening a shell on the N5 works just fine for seeing what's there, renaming and moving files, etc. No graphic interface, but it works really well.

I also have this issue. I thought it was an issue with my install and a factory reset didn't help.
Should I RMA this to do we see it as software. I'm also using a mac.
Regards,
Steve
You could send an email to Google asking them to improve their Android File Transfer program, I guess... As I mentioned, I have switched over to using ADB and the OSX terminal program for any heavy lifting, and use AFT for the little stuff.
You could also run a program on your N5 and transfer files via WiFi. I have used WiFi File Transfer Pro with great success (though on my Galaxy Nexus; I haven't tried it yet on my N5). You run it on your N5 and it sets up a web server which you connect to with a web browser on your Mac (e.g., Safari or Chrome). Full graphic interface on your Mac, works over WiFi rather than USB.
Have you tried airdroid client? Works like a charme, just install on your n5 , you can then navigate in your phone, even root, from their server, used to reinstall all my media and titanium back-up file from N4 to N5

I read that thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1243699
and wondering if is possible to use our phone as fully (or close to that) terminal /computer.
I want to learn linux to work with some commands, but sometimes it just dont work.
Ofcourse there is many solutions but all of them work fine for software keyboard.
I want to use hardware keyboard in full.
Any ideas?
Hi, I'd like to know if it's possible (and if so, how) to directly change android settings via adb commands.
My wife has broken the LCD screen on her phone (OnePlus 7T HD1907, Android 11, rooted with Magisk). I'm having a lot of trouble getting screen mirroring and USB OTG input devices to work at the same time; I have a USB v3 hub, and a USB OTG connector, but I've only been able to consistently get either screen mirroring or input devices to work, not both at the same time. The screen on the phone has now completely failed so I can no longer switch back and forth between the two to make changes on the phone. When I did have it working briefly I turned on the "experimental desktop mode on secondary displays" in Developer Settings, which just made things worse because Android settings don't seem to be available in desktop mode.
I have an identical phone to which I can refer, if needed.

I don't know if it contains your specific setting, however, many settings can be read/stored/modified using the foillowing commands from a shell/ADB. using
Code:
# read settings, there are three partitions. Secure, System & Global
settings list secure;
settings list system;
settings list global;
# to read a specific one
settings get secure "sleep_timeout";
# to change a setting
settings put secure "sleep_timeout" "-1";
# there's another command for delete, but I cnat remember it for certain, so dont wish to guess and lead you astray ;) and I am sure you know how to do a web search
The above is for a shell, adding adb shell to the front would run it explicitly from adb.
Trying to change system settings requires Android is rooted.

Would I simply type "adb shell" to start the shell after connecting to the device? I'm assuming that this would be a linux shell.

I am pretty sure that not ALL settings require root to be changed.

There are many ways to do things.
Personally (if not using the app I created and listed below), I start a shell with adb shell and I am running windows, so that is run from a command shell.
At that point, you enter the ANDROID shell (Not linux, its an android device)
I then change to a root shell with su; Only because anything worth doing usually requires root, and at least some of these will.
And then I can run any of the statements above. I would suggest you run a list of each and save that off as a backup.
Another option to see many of these in action and generate a "restore" of the existing, is using the app I created called TeMeFI
You can find these under the menu Current State>Settings>*
I had an issue when Android 12 (it might have been Android 11, can't remember) first came out where my physical Keyboard connected through USB wouldn't type. I searched for hours on end and FINALLY found something in the official Android docs where you can change either a global setting or a flag to allow keyboard input under certain conditions. I can't remember for sure what it was, but I think it's either while a screen overlay is detected or while an accessibility service is running. Well, here I am years later with that same problem again. Only this time, I can't for the life of me find the answer. If I remember right, I had to put in an ADB command to set a certain flag to allow it. I've searched XDA and Android docs for hours but cannot find it. Please, someone help before I go insane. I really need my keyboard to work.
Edit: nevermind I found it! For anyone looking for the answer, go to the docs here: https://developer.android.com/about/versions/12/behavior-changes-all#untrusted-touch-events
You can fix it for a specific app by doing `adb shell am compat disable BLOCK_UNTRUSTED_TOUCHES com.example.app` or for all apps (doesn't always work) by doing `adb shell settings put global block_untrusted_touches 0`
