Hello
Since my Desire Z has touchscreen problems, I decided to look for a Desire S and came across a cheap one. The problem is that it is simlocked (Vodafone, Germany) I wanted to ask you if it is possible to unlock the device if I don't have a Vodafone simcard. Does this work?
I think it should work because I can access ADB without entering a pin code or something but I'm not sure...
Thanks in advance
anyone?

As far as I am aware, the only way to SIM unlock is still with the XTC-Clip the same way I did it over a year ago - although I will gladly be corrected if I'm wrong.

Is there anywhere a tutorial how to do this?

Hello all,
Everyday I see new threads on the XTC clip...which clutter this forum
Rather than all individually creating a new post saying XTC-Clip needed here or here.. Please first read and then post in the already existing thread (see the first URL below) which is created in another forum and may well already contain your answer. You may also find the information below useful.
INFO:
The xtc device works on nearly all htc phones. Most phones come by default as S-ON (security on). Currently the xtc clip hardware device is the only method to make your phone S-OFF, this is the first stage to making your device root and being able to instal custom roms. People are currently working on creating a software method to achieve S-off but this is not yet possible.
Using the xtc device will invalidate the warranty of your phone and cannot be reversed, so be sure you fully understand what you are doing.
If you are still unsure as to what a XTC-Clip is, or what the terms S-ON, S-OFF or root mean then please try googling these things and reading before asking.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1042997
For further details on the XTC Clip then also see the Desire S related thread below:

Moderator: any chance off making this a sticky?
nice post dude..
it's better to make s-off / s-on in one thread.
vote this thread for STICKY
But why is it that in old Desire which has an S-ON, can be rooted?
Now with the Desire S, it's impossible (for now). And the only redemption is this XTC Clip thingy.
Because htc in their wisdom choose to instal signed boot loaders

Sorry double post
Quick question regarding the xtc clip, my desire s was bought sim free so already unlocked for any network but still s on. If i go to a shop with an xtc clip and ask them to unlock my already unlocked phone will that make it s off? Or is the process with the xtc clip different?
this is very nice thread about s-off by l0st.prophet

read it to know all the things about s-off, bootloader, etc.

Please tell us what is up to date now? What method for network unlock htc phones? Cheers.

Ah sorry. Yeah its probably the best way to do that. I was referring to S-OFF. However, sometimes networks unlock the phone for free

Just been browsing the Desire forum and came across some free-ware that let's you unlock your phone. Is there a simillar software for the Desire S? Or will the Desire Sim-LUnlock Utility work with the S?

I have the same question. It is an app like Htc_Desire Unlock for Desire S?
Any link? If you are talking about htcphones method, it was not confirmed, yet.

What can you do with XTC clip? They're selling for £30ish, just wondering if it is worth the money getting one if I plan to tinker round some DSs?

Hi!
Because of the dead links and the last update, I would like to aks if someone could write a guide on how to downgrade a branded Desire S. Is it possible to get OTA Updates afterwards by using the Gold Card?

AFAIK branded Desire S is not that easy (twice as difficult) to downgrade. And often times, it is not supported or not advised at all.
But I read somewhere that someone was able to downgrade his/her Desire S phone here on XDA. I suggest to search for it.

Hi everyone,
I have a AT&T HOX, which runs at 2.20. Is there any possibility to downgrade to a lower version and root the device? I really love "hacking" these phones but Im stuck at 2.20...
Thank you for your time reading my topic
No, if there was no one would be complaining about 2.20.
Search some.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1838640
Here's gunnyman thread on the 2.20 think tank. There is also a bounty for 2.20 root in the general discussion.

Search does not always equal knowledge
OP:
I had the same question. I just picked HOX 2.20 off of Craigslist. I didn't know about the CBlock from AT&T version 2.20. I guess I'll have to try some social engineering at the store to get the to free it up for me. From what I've read, root is required to downgrade but no root is available for 2.20, yet.
BTW: I've been looking for this answer for a while, via search. This is the only thread that clearly states 2.20 is not downgradable.

Don't know where you were looking.
Uh.....? I posted a link to another thread stating that 2.20 is not rootable yet. There are at least three in the general discussion thread that I can think of. If you want I can't paste those here? Happy to help in any way. I feel bad for you folks that are locked out on the 2.20.

Not downgradable != not rootable. It's a matter of them not searching with the correct terminology or not understanding what they need to have to downgrade, but obviously they don't know which is why they are asking the question in the first place.
There is now root for 2.20. Check the General forum.
Hello everybody on my first post in xda, i need your help, it is why i am here, i have a Htc One X of 16GB but with tegra 3, don't have Lte and it say that is from europe in the hardware info (Have HTC logo, don¡t company logo or at&t logo)(yoigo get that one to me, is free sim) and then i don't know if that one is at&t, evita, if is the XL, or simply one x international, i am just now
i was searching for how to root that one (and if possible flash that one) yesterday and today, i have linux installed, ubuntu 13.10, and all what i try to do fail or didn't work. (believe me, i read a long number of post and download a long number of files and try some different methods typing on the console.
I need your help to root my phone, i will accept to unlock bootloader, to edit hex, to flash 20 files, to downgrade my phone, and to burn my face (preffer to don't do it) if neccesary.
How can i do it?
All possible util data from my device:
Resume (Fully updated with the official software)
USB Depuration mode: On.
Android 4.2.2
Sense 5
Software Version 4.18.401.2
Kernel 3.1.10-g7f360be
Compilation number 4.18.401.2 CL231174 (i was touch that 7 times then i am supposed developer)
Hboot 1.72
What is perfect to me?
My final purppose is flash cyanogenmod 10.2.1, if can't do want to simply get root access.
(Other possibility to me is flash that one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2640571
(i am not noob (of all) i was rooted some devices and flash two devices and don't have problem to try the harder method if someone know how to do what i want to do)
THANKS for the helper and sorry if my english isn't perfect!!

i search and read, i found how to root and flash (and i understand and stand all) but don't work for me, i try to unlock bootloader but fail, i have my Unlock_code.bin, but can't charge that one (last step), i get a command not found problem, you are a senior user, just the user that i am searching to help me, probably you know long more that me but i know to RTFM, i first search the solution here (at&t and international one x forum) then on google, then on tons of sites, but yet don't found the solution, unlock the bootloader is supposed to be easy, the problem on that can be that i am using ubuntu 13.10 and not a windows... (it is why i was writing my pc SO)
thanks for you, but need personal help with that.
Please try to help me with an usual problems list, some ideas, some howto or almost redirect me to the correct link where someone have a similar problem that was solver, because, i can't found that.
Thanks other time , but sorry because don't is usefull to me search (i am yet searching) :crying:

Tegra3 is not the EVITA, its the ENDEAVORU.
To verify, you can boot into hboot and you will either see EVITA or ENDEAVORU.
For ENDEAVORU, its pointless to ask here. Any advice we give you would fail and possibly even brick your phone. You need to go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-x

You should have done some research before you installed the update, it patched the last exploit which means there's no way for you to unlock the bootloader or get root. You'll hav to wait and see IF a dev bothers to crack it on this device which is getting old now.

No you can't without unlocking the unlocking the bootloader and rooting. It's a fairly well established (and discussed) fact that official updates patch root exploits, that's why it pays to research before doing something like that.

If a dev has interest trying, he will find a way. But the thing is, most devs won't have interest. So sit tight and maybe send a bounty

When its answered on here there is no method to unlock the bootloader, this includes downgrading. If there was a downgrade method, you would have been directed to that. Downgrading is not allowed on Android without root.

By buying a phone from a source other than your carrier, and also asking to mod the phone to work beyond its intended features (even though WiFi hotspot is intended to work on just about any carrier version except AT&T) you put yourself out of the category of "normal phone user" and it also means you have to do the proper research. Not knowing is no excuse.
