here goes:
aroma file manager by the ever talented amarullz and cwm 5 from the equally talented dastin
first, install dastin's clockworkmod 5 recovery available at this link (im not sure if it will work with clockwork mod 2 that rom manager gives us, i think dastins recovery is better anyway)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1209527
put it on your sdcard and flash it in recovery, and then go to advanced>reboot recovery
now when you reboot you will be in dastins cwm 5 recovery with pretty blue instead of green
then go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646108 and download amarullz's AROMA file manager. put it on your sdcard, and install it from zip like every other flash you are used to.
it will ask you to calibrate your touchscreen, which actually works!
follow the prompts and you will eventually see all your files available in the file manager.
every time you want to use the file manager, just install it like any other zip. it doesnt actually install anything, just brings up a shell.
i dont have any screenshots, but trust me its awesome and somewhat customizable.
i take no responsibility for any bad thing that comes about from you following this tutorial. it worked perfectly for me, and if it bricks your phone or your cat jumps onto your laptop and explodes, sorry about your luck.
i've attached the necessary files from both posts, but you should go download them from the original threads and give dastin and amarullz a thanks

you have to flash a rom using cwm!
btw please post questions in general section not the dev section
ok well if a mod could move this thread...i understand how to flash it what i dont get is why i have to modify the binary to run cwm and why android commander wont run to push the file
You need to modify the binary because a stock recovery can't flash unsigned roms, which any rom not from samsung is. Android commander won't push that file because system needs to be remounted as read/write, rather than read only.
You can use my modified oneclickroot script to push the correct modified binary and install the update.zip to get you into CWM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15831175&postcount=124
you have to mod it to get into the right recovery and just use root explorer
download:
http://www.krylon360.com/file_host/sk4g/recovery.zip (This is the recovery.)
http://www.krylon360.com/file_host/sk4g/update.zip (this is the update)
http://www.4shared.com/get/HpENkmN8/...rer_v2124.html (this is root explorer.)
open the first file on your computer and take out the recovery file inside it and place it on the sd card.
place the second file on the sd card
and install the last file.
now open root explorer scroll down and find sdcard,
now open it and find recovery and long press on it. hit copy. now hit the back button once.
now find system. open it.
find bin. open it.
hit on the top mount r/w
hit paste and overwrite the file.
next, power down the device and instead of powering on regularly, press volume down+ power button you should be in the recovery mode.
if it is blue then hit install packages,
if it is red you should be good to go.
NOW YOU HAVE A CWM
thank you i was following another set of directions which apperently were wrong
Hey trying to install CWM on my SGS4g
I overwrote recovery with the one from the thread linked below. I even extracted all the files from update.zip to their proper locations on the filesystem to no avail. It still boots to the Samsung recovery. WTF?

Did you even read the OP?
Place in the root of your SD. If you have a update.zip there already, delete it, and replace it with this one.

Where in that quote does it say to extract the update zip and place it anywhere except the root of your sd card ?
You just place the zip file itself not extracted on your sd card and don't ever do anything with it, don't flash it don't extract it.

When you get to the 3e recovery you need to select re install packages to enter cwm. The other option is to Odin flash the latest Bali kernel.
i never knew that downloading and moving around 2 files could be so hard for so many people.
Click on the Bali + CWM link in my signature for the easy to follow Odin instructions.
I'll ignore the snarky comments and thank the poster for the hint to reinstall packages. I ran into the same problem and that final step wasn't obvious from the instructions in the thread, nor from use of ROM Manager.
youre not supposed to use rom manager on this phone. and trust me, when the issue on cwm/rom manager has been addressed as many times as it has, it doesnt count as a "snarky" comment.
anyway, you are better flashing bali than krylons cwm. you are going to flash bali/voodoo cwm anyway, so might as well make it easy and do it now. think of bali/voodoo cwm as an upgrade to krylons (even though krylon made all this possible)
I rooted my phone (nexus s i9020a at&t) and have superuser and downloaded rom manager. I had no idea how to figure out how to flash a rom onto my device on my mac so I downloaded one of the many cyanogen mod 9's directly in rom manager. The rom loaded up perfectly and runs smoothly except there is no app market. When I try to go back into rom manager it force quits out.
I am very new to rooting and hacking into my phone and tried searching for hours and can't figure out what to do. If anyone knows how I can just flash a new updated version of cyanogen mod 9 without using rom manager that would be awesome. I really just need a step by step way to do it on the mac because every time someone posts a rom .zip file it downloads as a folder with random stuff in it and in recovery mode in my phone I don't know how to go about flashing it. So confused. Any help would be so appreciated.

Check your PM. I couldn't post links as it would have been my first post.
cm9 issue
thanks did you get my replies to your pm? i can't figure this out haha
download cm9 and the gapps add-on(with your phone) in the first post of the cm9 thread. boot into recovery, fimd your rom and gapps files, flash cm9 there, then flash the gapps(google apps), then reboot. you do not need rom manager.
Hmm cm9 does not come pre loaded with android app market so u will have to download the latest gapps from other posts in this forum... then copy it into ur phone from ur computer...then after going to cwm recovery use the volume up down buttons to scroll and the power button to choose...u will have to remember where u pasted the gapps file and u will have to navigate to it ...choose the gapps file and scroll down to yes to flash it then go back and reboot...that's it u will now have google apps in ur nexus s...Remember u do not need to open the downloaded gapps zip file as there is nothing u can do by opening it...good luck and happy flashing...

Must not of searched that much if you overlooked that. Gapps is separate. Read the post fully, please.

okay so i downloaded the g apps file and its a folder on my desktop with a few other folders within with random files. i go to recovery on my phone mount my phone drag this folder to my mounted phone. then i go back and do i do instal zip from sdcard? or do i do apply update from sd card? this is where I'm stuck idk where to go from here. if i click install zip from sdcard it makes me navigate and i find the name of the folder but it just brings me to the smaller folders and little individual files it's not just one big file but a bunch of little ones so i can't choose the whole thing.
so im confused
edit: so i guess on my mac when i download the zip file it must unzip it during download and becomes a folder. so i tried compressing the folder back into zip format and go back into recovery and load it but it says installation aborted.

we were all noobs before. most important is the learning part.
What is init.d?
Google it if u dont know.
It is mainly used for tweaking like enabling supercharger, turboboost.
Requirements:
1. Stock Kernel
2. Root
3. Busybox
4. CWM Recovery
Instructions:
1. Download the zip and place it in a folder in your SD card.
2. Reboot into CWM Recovery
3. Install zip as a normal package
4. ZIP takes care of all other things
How to check whether it is working or not?
Navigate to " /data/local/tmp/ " you will see a file named init.d_log_test.txt, if that file exists open it up and there would be something written in it,that means u now have init.d support on stock ROM's.

I saw ur post on the other forum too about the cwm

I was wondering since we have the fastboot thing on the phone
will it work the HTC way??
I use galaxy y and there is ODIN to save my back if things go too wrong
anything like this for this phone?
need to know before jumping in rom development
btw off topic
I haven't bought this phone yet, but I'm looking to
would u recommend it?
I don't play much games
only music, sometimes movies and moderate browsing
thanks

hav u tried this
I was messing with the build.prop file with my AGM rock V5, and unfortunatelly halfbricked my phone - it starts, shows the logo, but nothing else is done.
So since I have the files, for backup, I wanted to make a flashable zip (i'm using a 3e recovery, which worked fine), and to replace that way, the screwed files.
It's my first flashable zip ever, I've read the tutorials on how to do it, but after signing the zip file Sign+ v1.2.2 the recovery mode says only "...signature verification failed, instalation aborted..."
Now I wonder, what do I do worng - I use the flasher from superuser, which worked fine, and use the binary script from this.
Now a favor to ask is there anybody, who is not a noob like I am - and can make me such a flashing.zip file, that would contain the files I need to replace (attatched file), which after running in recovery, woud simply copy the files into /system dir on my phone?
Really guys I need your help pls.
