Is there fine print? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

What's stopping me from adding 2 lines to my plan, getting 2 skyrockets or iphones for next to nothing, then selling them for $280 each, then buying out the contact on the 2 new lines, and pocketing $160? Am I missing some fine print?

I don't think your missing anything. Its just a lot of work for only 160 bucks.

Not really, I pay $9.99 for a skyrocket, someone gives me $280, I ship them the skyrocket, I pay $200 fee to buy-out the line I added, I pocket $80. Could do it with any phone that has a good deal going on.

Seriously? This is the worst idea ever. I know you need the money, but this is not the way to do it.
Like someone said, it's going to cost you $722 plus tax just to get them both off contract. You won't make a profit, period. That's even if you go for the iPhones because no one's going to buy a 3GS when it's about to be unsupported starting TODAY in like a few hours time. The iPhone 4 8GB is not worth it either when you can get the 16GB for the same price.
When people look to buy phones, they don't want them at retail prices, which is what you would have to do in order to make a profit.

Actually latest report I read said 3GS actually showed up on the leaked iOS6 file links.
*confirmed now
Seriously wish Android makers would steal this aspect from Apple. One of the biggest downsides to Android is most of the phones lose official support in 10-16 months. Apple is still updating 3GS after 3 years.

Wow! ATT insurance rocks!! From Captivate to Inspire 4g...

I recently cracked the screen on my captivate. I had been looking at buying an Inspire 4G off craigslist for about 300 bucks, and didn't really feel like paying 125 bucks for a replacement captivate if i was only going to sell it for about 200 bucks.
So i called up the insurance company through ATT (Ascurion) and told them i had already traded my captivate in 3 times (i had) and that i was fed up with the problems (i was) and wanted to get a replacement Inspire instead of them sending me a Captivate. The lady was more than happy, and even gave me the choice of a free car charger or new case for the Inspire. Sweet!
So, in the end, i pay the deductible (125 bucks) to trade in a shattered Captivate, for a new Inspire 4g. I believe it works easily since they are both on the same Tier 2 insurance rate, and both cost 399 off contract. All the other non-satisfied Captivate owners should check it out if you are paying the 5 dollar monthly insurance. I could get used to using this as a way to update phones when they come out!

dont be mad because you cheaped out on the 5$ insurance and you are looking for a way to get away from the Captivate.
ATT wouldn't be the first that has done that. The warranty says it can be an equal or better product and.most times.that is determined based on price.

Ok ATT has whats called the 3 strikes rule. If you return the same device 3 times They can offer you a swap, some times there is a minor charge, like 20 bucks or so but most of the time there is no charge. The 2 devices have to be around the same thing. So no swapping a dumb flip phone for an Inspire.

Atrix 2 $1 at Best Buy

I was thumbing through the weekly ads out of my local Sunday paper and i usually check best buy to see what movies are on sale for the week. I came across the phone part of the ad and it has the Atrix 2 for $1 on contract. Now for one it pisses me off because i paid $100.For two when places start to drop the price on phones that is a sign that the phone is on its way out. That has me a little worried. If a mod think this should be closed, go for it. I just wanted to point out the price drop. Comments are welcomed.

Not to elevate your pissed-offedness more, but I got my A2 in October for $50 bucks at Best Buy, two or three weeks after it released. A buck, huh? Maybe that's just a crazy weekend promo or is it a full running deal with new contract? Could be that it's a significant an impending approach to the release of the ATRIX 3...? Interesting.

Could be, I'm not so sure AT&T is doing so hot right now so its probably just an incentive to get new customers on a 2 year contract. Either way, the phone is pretty damn awesome (coming from iPhone 3GS -I'll never make that mistake again) and thank Jeebus for the devs!

Interesting...I've come to expect that in the land of Android, devices have a very short run and then the next not piece of hardware comes out just a few months later and what was, is no longer. It's kind of why i'm excited and sad at the same time about the prospect of me getting an SGS3. I have a feeling the device will be a has been come Christmas time
I don't think the phone is going anywhere anytime soon though man, the only way I was able to get mine for free was due to a price match back in November when Radio Shack had them for free w/2yr contract. Luckily mine wasn't 30 days old yet so I was able to get the price match via refund . Here we are 7 months later and it's still around....AT&T still selling them for $99. Now when AT&T drops it to free, then be worried And just a FYI, AT&T had it for the same price when I bought mine the end of October. Unless they run out of stock, I don't think it's going anywhere anytime soon.

Considering selling. Pricing input needed.

Im really wanting a nexus, in order to get it I would need to sell my g2x. I was curious as to thoughts on pricing.
This phone has not had the reboot issues others have had. It has a slight scratch on the screen, but its only noticeable in direct sunlight. The bezel has a few dings in it. To be honest, its a great dependable phone that I hate to sell, but I want something that's better supported.
Any input on a price to sell it would be great.
Thanks.

I haven't gotten a phone on contract since the sidekick. So unfortunately I paid a bit more than 200. I hate being locked into overpriced plans. Prepaid is the way to go.

I tried selling my phone with case for $200 and then dropped it to190 but didn't get any hits. You'll definitely want to go lower (maybe $175 is a sweet spot for some people).
I tried putting my perfect condition G2x on craigslist for $200 with 3 cases, 2 extra batteries, and a 16 GB Micro SD, and I got lowballed like crazy. Most offers I got were around the $125 range (one guy even offered $90! ) I eventually got somebody to buy it for the $200, but it took a couple days.

I don't get people who do this. If you're going to make a commitment to a phone for 2 years (or more) why wouldn't you go for the top end so it isn't obsolete on arrival? The money you spend monthly on your plan is where the real money spent comes from, 200 upfront is nothing compared to 50+ a month for service?

Because $200 up front isn't "nothing" for a lot of people.
If anything, sites like XDA have bolstered the argument for getting a phone that's a generation behind the latest. The Captivate, while not the fastest beast on the market, probably still has 18-24 months of life left as a perfectly usable phone thanks to custom ROMs and devs keeping it up to date. The Skyrocket will be a perfectly good phone for another 2-3 years. My Note II is the last phone I'm getting until, most likely, 2016-ish.
The "latest and greatest every year" mentality is one I curse Apple for creating to this day. Before the iPhart came out, you just didn't see people rushing to stores every 12 months to drop $700 on a phone...

If you "just can't wait," then go with the GS III, I have mine and love it. There is a heck of a lot of support here in XDA for the GS III.
BUT if you can wait, then the GS IV is supposed to be coming out "in the next few months," from statements I have read online. BUT the specs are (so far) near of the same as the GS III and Note II. Honestly I like the note for what it is, but it is just a bit too big for my liking. The GS III however is just about perfect.

Some people can do it , some others don't. For me I buy them contract free, I don't like to be attached, other people just cant afford to dispose of 200.00 so easily.
So I suggest getting what you want at the price you can afford (simple).

Att‘s new Next deal

Ok if you havent heard att has a new deal that allows you to get a new device on your plan every 12 months. The catch is your billed 39 dollars on every bill. At least that's what I think....
Can someone explain to me if I'm missing something. Now when I tried to do this I still had to pay a large amount, 2yr, 1yr, and full retail, even though I wanted to do the Next deal. I'm almost due for an upgrade in 2 months any how. Is that the reason?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
You can't do any deal until it's upgrade time
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4
Also, with this "deal" you end up paying at least a 3rd more than the price of the phone for a normal upgrade. I think, if I remember correctly, that the s4 was going to be around $270 over the life of the contract as opposed to the $200 you'd pay for a normal upgrade.
Seems like it's a rip off to me, but to each their own.

But......You get to upgrade in 1 year instead of waiting 2 years. You also have to trade in the phone when upgrading, unless you want to pay off the remainder owed on the phone.

I think going to use this next program for the note 3. According to my upgrade page it will $35 a month for 20 months but I will be able to upgrade in a year. So instead of $300 upfront and a $36 upgrade fee, it will be around $420 for the year plus the fact that not gonna get insurance on it cause I'm gonna "lease" it for a year.
I'm still going to keep my skyrocket though on my work line.

So basically your leasing the phone. I knew there was something up with this next deal. I'd rather just wait till my upgrade then.

To me the thing to know is the trade in value at the end of the year. In other words will you recieve any money back or not when you return the phone. The note 3 retails for 799. 299 if you get the two year contract. It's 37 a month with the next program. If you keep it for the whole 20 months thats 740 bucks. So your getting a little over 7% off the full retail value. If you keep it for the 12 months then trade it in you'll pay 444. Will you get any of that back when you trade in the phone for next years model? That seems to be the unknown here. As far as not getting insurance goes that is a really bad idea. You break or lose it and you'll not be able to trade it in hence will have to pay the full term of the next contract I would think.

$35 for me. I've heard from a few different forums people have had different prices from one another by a few dollars per month. For me it seems worth it. Especially taking out the $10 a month for insurance.

I know att is trying to do good here, but it doesn't seem worth it. So If I get a note 3 flash that baby left and right 12 months is over then what? Convert it to stock?

Well that's if the bootloader gets cracked.
And only if you want to return it. Next is really only worth it if you upgrade every year. Or else in 20 months you pay full price at contract monthly cost.
