Im currently using a MyTouch 4G and my return period is about to end. On Dec 3. So i can't keep one and wait for the other.
Should i return it for a Nexus S, which is said to release on Dec 6, or should i keep it.
For this post im assuming the rumors of the Orion processor are true
I bet many of you have this question in mind,

The main reason im considering comparing the two is because the MyTouch has a very nice build quality, and the pics of the Nexus S suggest that it is a plasticy feel.

As a prior Vibrant owner (we all know about the Galaxy S fiasco), I won't be purchasing any more Samsung phones, regardless of what their specs are rumored to be. HTC, on the other hand, definitely makes solid phones. Even Motorola has produced some impressive offerings over the course of the year (Droid X, Droid 2).
If you're really considering the Nexus S, I highly suggest considering Samsung's reputation and basing your decision on their past missteps. After the disaster with Behold II and Galaxy S, what's to say they won't release another lemon?

This really is one thing i should consider
I like the MT4G, but it seems to be lacking dev support. I was not happy with the vibrant (lag, gps, battery life, etc.) therefore I have mixed feelings regarding the nexus s just and a little weary because samsung is making it.

I'm currently in the same dilemma. I've got until wednesday to remorse my mytouch out. So far, I've been quite happy with the mytouch. I feel like I'd be happy keeping this phone, but I also feel like I'll always be thinking "what if"in the back of my mind.
Anyway, I keep reading that the nexus s will only be sold in stores like best buy.. I'm sure it's too early to tell, but does anyone have any ideas as to how the pricing for the nexus will work.

I'm in the same boat but my remorse period starts tomorrow.
I love this phone but I've yet to get one without some kind of minor or major defect.
My g1 was perfect, but returned four vibrants and on my fourth my touch. Despite that I think this is a much better phone.
I wish the phone had more dev support, I remember the vibrant ramping up much faster.
The hardware in the sammy should be great, but the bad gps in the galaxy s line scares me. I actually like slcd better for everyday stuff. Next to the my touch, I can really see the blue hue on the samoled screen and the screen door text kills my eyes. Plus, though the blacks are the best, I hate having to have everything black themed to get any battery life on it.
I would say screw waiting on the nexus, but the thought of that amazing hardware paired with google dev support is hard to pass up. It's hard too believe that it will suck since it will be a dev phone. I missed the nexus 1 boat last time. Probably means android will finally be optimized for samsung s guts, instead of just htc, and sammy reduced to brute forcing for performance.
Another thing that makes me want it is that it will be the first of the next gen of phones if it truly has orion in it. From what I read about it, might make tegra 2 obsolete before it comes out.

i have had used a nexus one and that was the only reason i was comparing the nexus s. But ya like all of you have said earlier, samsung cant make 100% solid devices, but the quality of HTC devices r worth trusting
For me, it's all about connectivity... if the Nexus S doesn't have HSPA+, I'm keeping the MT4G.
Even if the no HSPA+ radio is true, I honestly don't see that being a deal-breaker. I live in an HSPA+ area and I average about 2.5-3mbps which is the exact same as a non HSPA+ T-Mo phone in the same area. The only difference is the non HSPA+ phones won't go above 7.2 mbps but so far neither can I so that's a non-issue for me.
Coming from an Evo, I agree with the comments about the dev scene being scarcer than other phones (but the few we do have are really stepping up).
I am taking the stance that I am keeping my MT4G thru remorse, and waiting to see what people's response to the Nexus S after its out for a couple weeks is. At that point I can still ebay/craigslist my MT4G for most of what it's worth right now anyway and get the Nexus S if it ends up being the end all be all.
At this point I would rather know I have a reliable, awesome phone that might be a tad light on the dev side than a potentially big samsung flop phone.

I love this phone! Had the G1, skipped the G2 for this (wanted front cam).
I LOVE the build of this phone and hopefully the dev will come soon.
I think I'm going to stick with the MT4G.
I loved my nexus one!!!!! but i love my MT4G better cause of the front facing camara...but i did like the look and feel of the my samsung vibrant....so i just might have to go with the Nexus S.
Something to consider:
With all of the purported hardware improvements, and state-of-the-art inclusions, haven't they still seen fit to omit an led for notifications, and a trackball/track pad, for navigating through text and so forth?
It would be a shame if you had a Ferrari of a phone, that had to rely on NoLED to let you know when you had a missed call or text.

The Mytouch 4G is an excellent piece of hardware. I have good reception, no problems with the GPS, the screen is very responsive and the battery life is amazing. I could care less about Gingerbread too. What do you want with the newest Android version when your phone may have severe hardware flaws. I don't trust Samsung neither their hardware nor their software. I had an HTC N1 the newest android version couldn't help covering the several hardware flaws this device had. I am glad that I found a good piece of hardware.
Mine (MT4) is on the way and I am supposed to receive it in 2 days.
I go for MT4 this time because I need the trackpad and wifi calling, and I may get NS 3 months later.

I think the Nexus S has enough potential that I would wait to see the end result before committing to the MT4G (or any other phone for that matter). You have to remember that Google is probably closely involved in the project which may result in more quality control than usual (see antenna replacement for example). I'm also intrigued by the Near Field Communication chip. If the Nexus S ends up living up to it's hype the dev support will probably be awesome. If it doesn't you can always go back to your phone of choice.
I ended up returning my MT4G before the end of my remorse period (which is 30 days if you buy it full price from a t-mobile store and not online). For those who can't go back to your old phones just remember that BestBuy and RadioShack both have 30 day return policies with no restocking fees
I will most likely get the Nexus S even though I've had the worse experience with Sammy and the Vibrant, simply because I cant say no to the 2nd generation, of the best phone ever made running on dual core.
I just ordered the MyTouch 4g today though, while I wait for reviews on the Nexus. I just had enough of this not so very MOD/DEV friendly phone they call the Vibrant. aka (My Piece of Shyet Phone) lol
Although I love the SAMOLED, the size, camera, and the look of the Vibrant. The software side, the random freezes and the need for Lag and GPS fix (That never really worked) just made it a BIG disappointment.
I know it might be wishful thinking with Sammy being the maker of the Nexus S, but since it will be a Google flagship device, I could only hope for better support and quicker updates than the Galaxy S series.

Maybe a little premature to assume this?
So before I get a bunch of angry people posting let me clarify a few things
First off I have a plum mytouch 4g with a sharp screen (that ones with bad viewing angles and contrast) that I got off of craigslist. The only thing I have other then the phone itself is a black gel case and a generic charger. The phone has some very minor but not a big deal scratches on the back and the top.
I got an offer on craigslist to trade it in for a mint but used G2 with all accessories and box.
So I need help deciding "Should I do it? I'm aware that the mytouch beats the G2 in every department except physical qwerty but before I make the trade on Tuesday I need help.
Are there any defects in the G2 I should be worried about/look for?
Is the G2 screen as good as a bad mytouch screen?
or anything else. Please help

Hmm, theres the thing, other then the screen issue, lack of qwerty and the purple color ( I really don't mind purple but I aint crazy about it either) the mytouch trumps the G2 in almost every way. (Although I do love the build quality on the G2). Anybody else have an opinion?
I had both the mt4g and the g2.
The G2 is a great phone. Its just as fast as the mt4g, don't believe the numbers.
The screen is a lot better, mt4g looks fuzzy and pixelated in comparison. -though my mt4g had washed out screen.
The keyboard is very useful, power button is better positioned so you don't accidentally hit it in landscape mode.
Music sounds better through headphones.
Pretty close to being stock android.
*feels and looks 100x better than the mt4g.
No noisy cheap plastic navigation buttons.
Bad things are:
No ffc. Kinda bulky.
Worse reception than mt4g.
Less ram memory.
No trackpad wake.
I'm Perth sure that if you're not a careful user you'll break that keyboard hinge at some point.
People been already reporting discoloration...few months after release.

Not trying to be combative, evo madness, but can you provide any technical details? We all have our preferences, so if you like the G2 more than the myTouch 4G, no one could fault you for your personal preference.
I love the MT4G, so I sort of have to defend it. I mean, the first thing we should address as far as "which phone is better," would be the difference between the MSM8255 & MSM7230 CPU. They're essentially the same CPU (please correct me if I'm wrong), but the MT4G uses the MSM8255 and the G2 uses the MSM7230. MSM8255 is clocked @ 1 GHz out of the box and MSM7230 is under-clocked to 800 MHz out of the box. Now "better" is relative here. Of course, 1 GHz is faster than 800 MHz, but someone might argue that one gets more battery life @ 800 MHz. Good thing SetCPU keeps me @ 1.4 GHz when the screen is on and 786 MHz when the screen is off. So MT4G @ 1 GHz and G2 @ 800 MHz.
The G2 has 512 MB RAM whereas the MT4G has 768 MB RAM. 768 is more than 512 and that = good when it comes to a snappy phone/the user experience.
Again, totally not trying to be combative here, but I'm trying to help the OP who wants to know if he should trade or not. @OP, the G2 is a great device and I really like pretty much any device that HTC manufactures. Coming from a G1, I was a big fan of having a physical keyboard. I never thought I'd like a soft-keyboard, until I started using Swype. Soft-keyboards are only getting better too (the GB one looks might enticing).
The G2 is running vanilla Android out of the box, whereas the MT4G is running Sense UI. Some hate Sense, some love it. I personally love it. So to me, the MT4G is "better," out of the box in that department. Someone else might disagree, since they prefer vanilla. Good thing we can flash ROMs!
The big thing for me gabrialxue, is what VibrantOwnr pointed out. There are videos all over the Web that explain the "hinge issue." If you HAVE TO HAVE a physical keyboard, go for it. It just depends on your personal preferences. Your situation @Craig's List doesn't help much though, but that has nothing to do with the phone itself.
I should probably avoid threads like this, but I wanted to clarify some technical details as far as "G2 is better than the MT4G" and I wanted to help gabrialxue stay with the MT4G, 'cause I love it and everyone should too!
Just read the thread buried in here somewhere of all the people with G2's including myself who switched to the MT4G.
The my touch 4G is superior in every way over the G2 except the physical keyboard which is not as big as it used to be now that we have swipe.
The MT4G has a faster processor, more RAM, Font Facing Camera (FFC) etc.
Even the T-Mobile Customer service tell people wanting to switch back to the G2 that it is a downgrade.
Many people including myself were skeptical at first about the My Sense UI, but now that we have root you can flash other ROM's or use third party launchers to change the look to a more stock android look.
My biggest problem with the G2 was the poor design of the Hinges for the keyboard. It is a terrible design flaw. I tried 3 different G2's and I was very happy I switched.
Try to get you a good replacement with a good screen and you will be more happy with your MT4G.
Even though you bought it off craigslist there have been other people who have received warranty replacements that bought off craiglist and ebay. If you need more information about how to do it look through my thread about the displays good vs bad or PM me and I will help you in what to do.
So do you think I should suck it up and get past the whole washed out screen thing in exchange for the additional ram and FFC? (I dont use that a lot but I have used it a few times and it was cool) I mean coming from midrange androids it doesn't seem that bad to me until I compare it to other phones.
It looks like bobsbbq and I were pecking away at the same perspective. I forgot to mention the FFC too!

I'd message bobsbbq as he seems to have some info that will help. Remember, you have both T-Mobile and HTC (the manufacturer) to deal with when it comes to warranty/exchanges.
It's up to you. I'm only supposed to have two MT4G's and I went through a total of 5 or 6 (can't remember, I shipped so many back!) before my fiancee and I settled on the ones we have now. Whether it was the "bad" SH display or creaking - I mean REALLY creaking - edges, I felt it was worth it to deal with TMO and go through all of the "hassle." For someone else, they might've cried and gone on to the iPhone. I'm a man though.
It's difficult for us to say, "yes, gabrialxue, do this - you will like it." You might not like pizza, but we can sit here all day and tell you you should eat it and you should like it. If I were you, I would ditch the G2 and stay here with us in MT4Gland. That's me, not you.
On paper and in personal preference, there is no doubt the MT4G is a superior device to the G2. IMHO, I really think the MT4G is the best Android device on the market right now, period. I'll never poopoo on another HTC or Android device though, they're all winners. The Evo is great, the Incredible is great, etc.

Now we're really not talking about phones anymore, IMHO. Yeah, I guess resale value is somewhat important, but we're not talking about a Honda Accord here. I don't sell my previous phones, so for me, that's a moot point.
I honestly think the MT4G would fetch you more $$$ in the long-run, but you did say it has some scratches, none of the original packaging, etc. Some buyers seem to like the original packaging, as it "says something" about the owner.
Again, this is really difficult, gabrialxue. We've moved away from performance, development and user experience and are onto resale value. I have never once considered that when buying a phone, instrument, electronic device, etc. I would only consider resale value on a home, car, boat, etc. That's just me though.
Keep the mytouch, do a warranty replacement, root it and throw cyanogenmod on it. that way you get the the thinner phone, better hardware, bigger screen.
the G2 is nice, but if you don't care about the keyboard (which i didn't) then you end up with a phone that's Thicky Ricardo for no reason.

Theres the thing though, I got this phone from craigslist, I am not eligible for a warranty replacement. I can send it into HTC for a free repair but all they would do is replace it with the exact same screen and send it back.
Man, I might get moderated for this but, get an iPhone.
Seriously though, which is it? Performance? Resale value? User experience? Development/customization? I think the last handful of replies have provided you with a lot of data. You now know the MT4G is a superior device in virtually all ways, on paper. I'm not sure if you just want one of us to say, "yes, trade it, get the G2" or "no, keep it, stick with the MT4G."
It seems like each option, you have a "but" for. If you keep the MT4G, you have issues with warranty/replacement and "resale value," as you put it. If you go with the G2, you get lose hinge issues, a "slower" phone (you'll be able to root it too though, so sort of a moot point), but all of the retail packaging.
I'm just not sure this thread can really go any further, know what I mean? I hope I've done my part to help here and I hope you end up with the phone you like best! Either way, you're on Android and I think that is a good thing.

Your wrong, as I have said I know of several people who bought from craigslist and ebay and still got warranty replacements from T-Mobile. You just have to know how to do it.
With a HTC warranty your right you would have to send it in but I would bet you would probably get a new device. Or at the very least a new screen with the good
LCD. HTC as admitted the LCD problem even though T-Mobile has not. So I doubt if you sent it in to HTC for a washed out display you would get a bad screen.
I just wanted to get an opinion before i jump and get a new phone. I like both the galaxy s 2 and the htc sensation (now that it will be coming to Bell Mobility meaning AT&T HSPA Bands). I'm just want to know the positives and negatives of each device. I want honest opinions.
I'd pick the SGSII. I think it'll have better capabilities in the future when it comes to modding.

From my play time with a Sensation, there is no other choice. . It's that good. Sense 3.0 is just superb. And the build quality, style and design of the Sensation pushes it over the top. The SGS2 may be a nice phone, but it just can't even approach the Sensation...in my opinion.

I had the same problem choosing between these two phones. My previous HTC phones had superb build quality and I still think HTC makes incredible devices but after reading some reviews I decided on the Galaxy S II. The screen is undeniably amazing, and even though it has a slightly lower resolution it honestly doesn't matter, the display is that good. Its very fast, thin, and has surprisingly good build quality for a Samsung phone (no creaks at all, like my Desire Z). I haven't been able to slow it down yet, and that's a first for any android phone I have had or tried. At the time hearing about the locked bootloader on the Sensation defiantly made a difference for me coming from the **** that was the Atrix, but HTC has resolved this issue now (I think). As far as Sense 3.0 or TouchWiz 4.0 go I await the day CM7 nighties start releasing so I dont have to deal with stupid manufacturer "improvements" to android. You will have to make the decision yourself, but I can tell you for sure if you get the Galaxy S II you wont be disappointed.

Id go SGSII I loved my original Galaxy variation, and the SGSII looks like a beast

GPS is perfect here, much better than the DHD, stable lock on seconds, build quality is on par with HTC
Add on the huge development teams involved with sgs2 and u can't touch it! I was a HTC fanboy

SII - Brilliant screen and no doubt about that, very good performance and pretty good battery life too. GPS problems seems to be exist in this one too, but when is comes to performance, no compromises, always a better phone, unless you are hooked up to HTC Sense UI
HTC Sensation - super LCD lacks that brilliance that samsung AMOLED holds, but still read that pretty good battery life with idle state, and comfortably survive for 2 days. HTC Sense UI with latest changes does have some lag in the phone, so if you are looking at absolute performance, this might not be the phone.
I totally agree witg ajvasudhar.
The big problem is that Touchwiz is no where near the beauty of Sense UI.

Difficult choice, indeed, and I am standing in front of the exactly same dilema... I really dont like TouchWiz, and I really love HTC Sense... but I've read HTC Sense has some issues with smoothnes... I'd say its even here.
Display on SGSII is SAMOLED+, that would be +1 for me, however for 4.3inches, I am afraid that same resolution as on 3.7 inches amoled screen wont look that sharp. HTC on other hand has qHD resolution, but only S-LCD screen, which is not bad, but not as bright as Amoled(yea, I am very afraid of the 'gray' black on S-LCD). its still even fight on this point
Design of SGSII is weird, I dont like it, its like a brick, square, huge. On other hand, HTC came with very interresting design, I like the screen design, its very original. This round owns HTC.
Quality of materials, here again, just as with SGS I, SGSII has been made out of cheap looking plastics, and I dont like it. I have also heard that after two weeks of use, the back cover is making weird noise... on other hand, HTC has again aluminium unibody, where you put the phone into this body. GREAT... +1 for HTC.
Controls, I dont like the Samsung way of doing it, on/off button on side, three buttons, pretty far from each other... its my own opinion, I dont like it, but I guess I'd get used to that(but I still prefer unlocking phone from top) HTC has keys I am used to, but those are again sensors only, not real buttons.. I dont like this, so here its SGSII who takes point, where at least the home button is real +1
HW and performance, so far what I've seen benchmarks(I know its not perfectly accurate) and other stuff, SGSII is way better, it may be caused by SENSE, which is eating really a lot of performance, and may get improved by custom roms, but here I have to give points to SGSII, which has even more memory So far we have it 2:2 for each device
Now, I got into point, that no other things makes any difference for me... each phones have their own issues, SGS is loosing GPS signal, HTC is loosing WiFi and BT while not holding properly. I have also heard that first bunch of HTC's had issue with pocket lint/dust getting under the screen, however HTC is solving this responsibly and fixing the phones straight away.
So, if you ask me, for me its gonna be the one that goes cheaper... so far I can get Sensation for cca 220eur and SGSII for 300eur(both with 18months contract, which I'd take anyways), which makes HTC the winner, just because of the pricing.
Dont take this as a guide, this is bunch of my own opinions and preferences, why I chose HTC over Samsung, you might have different preferences, and performance could be far more important for you than look of the phone as for me, so still this is your choice... If you have chance, get into store and let them borrow you both working phones, put them next to each other and play with them for a moment, then you'll see which one is your champion
I read tons of reviews and comparison videos and went with the SGSII. The SGSII came out on top in most reviews. Loving mine!
I'm trying to decide which mobile to buy and I've narrowed it down to the Sensation and the Galaxy S 2, I've had the HTC Desire which was fine but more recently I've had and returned 3 HTC Incredible S handsets. All 3 suffered with signal drop on the O2 network here at my home (the Desire seemed OK).
After looking through the Sensation forum, I'm getting concerned that HTC may be loosing a grip as far as standards go?
Now that you've owned your Sensation, what do you think? Would you still buy the Sensation if you were once again in the Market for a phone?

What only makes me ever say I regret buying it is the spec increase only mere months after it's release. I love the phone, a few software problems, but that isn't a deal breaker. I was an early adopter and haven't really had any problems with it. Screen is great, no scratches, feels great in the hand. However between the two I wouldn't know what to pick. I love my Sensation and also want a Galaxy SII. It is really up to which one you can get your hands on. From what I can tell there is a better screen on the SII, but I prefer the resolution on the Sensation. However the Sensations speaker isn't fantastic, but I use headphones anyway so no big deal. Battery isn't too bad on the Sensation. I can easily get a days worth out of it. So to answer your question no I don't really regret the purchase.
I have no regrets. I have had to return two of them but the third one was perfectly fine. I had no problem returning them cause it never costed me a dime and I was never without a phone. If I were in the market today I wouldnt get it though. I would go for the Amaze. Also I am not a fan of Samsungs. They feel too light and cheap for me. I like my phones to feel like a solid piece of hardware and Samsungs just dont.

My Battery life is just fine. Never had dust under my screen. The viewing angles are actually pretty dang good. Bright whites was out to yellowish but all the others hold fine even to extreme angles.
The SAMOLED screen on the TMobile GS2 is bigger but lower resolution causing everything to be really big. Perhaps root will fix that.
I am SERIOUSLY loving InsertCoin 3.2.7 which is a Sense 3.5 rom. The only Rom I've ever tried that was nearly as smooth and fast was an AOSP Rom on my mytouch 4g. It's like buttered silk AND I have 200mb free ram.
My ONLY con now is the app storage or lack therof. Even the low volume speaker was fixed via ROM and Volume+
I don't regret it. Too bad I have to say goodbye though....its a solid device with a lot of ongoing support and tweaks.

My main gripe about the Sensation is Sense 3.0. I've owned a heap of HTC devices and I'm just not sold on the new sense. There's an SGS2 on its way to me right now so I'll offer a more objective opinion when it arrives.

no regrets here at all. i have gone through alot of android phones through tmobile. i must admit this has been the best phone i have owned. If i was shopping for a new phone today i would go for the amaze over the sensation only bc of the higher specs. besides that this phone is amazing especially with CM installed. it felt like a brand new toy once i installed it
There is absolutely ZERO reason to get a Sensation right now (or ANY phone really), until the Nexus Prime details are (officially) revealed.
That being said, I also have zero regrets about purchasing the Sensation. It was hands-down *THE* absolute best phone for T-Mobile at the time and I've certainly loved using it for the past 4 months.
Bottom Line: If you're looking to purchase a smart phone in the near future, it would be foolish to not wait until the Nexus Prime is officially revealed. It has the potential to change the Android landscape, and while we don't regret OUR purchase of the Sensation, the Prime might make YOUR purchase an instant-regret. Just wait

Not because of all the new Phones that are pretty much updated versions of it... but because of all the manufacture defects i've encountered.. such as dust build up around top and wedged in between the front camera that cannot be removed, Also randomly unresponsive screen due to static build up between the battery cover and pin. And the worst, a Screwed up headphone jack that decides to pause/play/skip music as well as make random calls whenever headphones are plugged in. Pisses me off that i need to carry an extra device (ipod) just so i can listen to music..

Hopes the Nexus Prime comes to tmobile and really hopes samsung doesnt screw it up by making it out of plastic so cheap that it makes a McDonald's toy look like a quality build

I'd definitely buy it again - I was also worried because of all the griping on this forum, but my Sensation's been perfect and it's the best HTC phone I've owned. Feels a lot better in the hand than the Galaxy S 2, has a better aspect ratio and (to me) a better, less over-saturated screen.
Plus, Sense 3.0 (with Android Revolution HD) is a dream to use.
I cant tell you how much I regret buying mine. Awesome hardware specs, huge screen, but HORRIBLE build quality and constant ongoing issues. In addition, Sense is just terrible and I do not think I will ever buy another Android phone that isnt bone stock with no carrier modifications. Its honestly not worth the headache waiting around for people to mod a ROM just so it can finally be up to par with a vanilla Nexus type phone IMO.
I bought my Sensation when it first came out in June. I have zero regrets buying it and it has been a great phone to date. I haven't really had any issues, although now I believe I have some dust under the screen. With that said, I still have no issue buying it then as it was the best phone on the market at the time. There is also tons of development for it - which I really like. I was actually looking at giving my wife the Sensation and upgrading to either the GS II or Amaze. I went and checked out both of those phones today and have to say I was underwhelmed. The GS II is big and has a plastic feel to it. I also noticed a lot of lag when scrolling thru the home screens and felt my Sensation (running ARHD ROM) was more responsive. Also, not really a fan of Touch Wiz. The Amaze is nice, and it is very similar to the Sensation. However I am not sure if it will get rooted (quickly) and the amount of development that it will get. Not sure if it's worth the upgrade.

Absolutely regret it. Sense was nowhere near optimized for the Sensation and it shows in the way that the fastest custom Sense ROMs for us are still a little bit slower than the newest stock HTC devices that run Sense 3.0. I will never buy a LCD screen phone again because it is worthless in the sunlight and is in general washed out in light. The speaker is bad; ROMs or Volume+ apps that barely increase the volume do not fix the fact that it is a hardware problem.
That said, I do enjoy tinkering with and using my Sensation. I still think it is perhaps the most beautiful looking device of the year, I enjoy the fact that we have decent dev support on here, and the screen res is enjoyable. I'm also really waiting to see what this phone can do with ICS and when CM7 comes out of Alpha or whatever (I'm very nitpicky and will only install full on ROMs that only have minor issues). In that sense, I'm enjoying what I can with this phone even though I wish I would have waited for a better one (but heck, I was put in a hard position because I had to get a new phone at the time the Sensation came out and it was the best Tmob phone available). But, if I was in the market for a new phone right now I would absolutely wait for the Nexus Prime. The SGSII seems like a good step up, but I would hesitate to get a phone that isn't a 100% upgrade over the Sensation (some things like the screen res are a step down).
I regret it. If I knew as much about this phone as I know now... I would've keep my Glacier.
Thing is a piece of crap, really. Sure, it has top specs... but software is a mess and build quality is dissapointing. I wanted to love it but I can't. Ready to sell if for whatever I can as soon as next Nexus device drops.
Sorry HTC, you really dropped the ball lately and I'm going to speak with my wallet from now on.

Amaze might be a slightly better hardware but it's ugly as F to me.
only thing XE offers is the headphones basically. Software we can get, no big.
having said that, if you are in the market now for a new phone I'd say wait til Nexus Prime is officially announced.

i think mytouch 4g design is bit different with other HTC phones. most of HTC phones' design are boxy, minimalist and simple, but MT4G design is more in detail. like the phone speaker or the curved edge.
MT4G also have 4 physical buttons, which is on the new generation of HTC phones usually use touch sensitive button instead of physical button.
"My touch"
i live in Indonesia, and brand "my touch" sounds like cheap china's phones here. in my country there were tons of iphone imitations that use word "touch" for their brand. so when my friend saw this phone for the first time he ask me. "is it an i phone imitation?"
so what do you think about my touch 4g design, compared to other HTC phone or else, also the brand image in your country.
out of topic: you know what, dell's tablet "peju". in indonesia "peju" means sperm.
I think the myTouch line sucks when it comes to advertising and endorsing. And the build is great, but not as good as other HTC phones like the Legend, DHD, Thunderbolt, etc.
Tmobile really should have marketed this line a whole lot better. And the name should have been better than the "myTouch."
The Droid line is successful and popular because it has a kick ass name and good commercials.
The MT4G itself is a great phone, but to answer your question, I think tmobile dropped the ball on this one.

hey i just watch mt4g commercials on youtube. they were very funny. hahaha.
i don't know what happen between at&t and t-mobile but mt4g commercials just strengthen that mt4g is an iphone copy.

The Mytouch 4g is a GREAT phone, if you get the 1 in a million unicorn mytouch with no build problems.
For others, it's an endless cycle or exchanging through tmobile/htc to get the perfect mytouch, which in my case, I still dont have. The FFC still crooked, small dust under screen... I went through 3 phones before I said F*CK it and went with this one.
Just look at the "how many times did you exchange your mt4g" thread at XDA and you will see how ****ty HTC build has become.
Sorry, but although I do like the MT4G, my next phone will be Samsung S2 or better (flame on for those samsuck h8ters)

You know people can hate on Samsung all they want but their build quality and quality control is WAY better than any HTC. Even Sensation owners face similar problems as MT4G such as dust under the screen, creaks, touch screen unresponsiveness etc. And the list goes on.
They may be plastic, but Samsung phones are better IMO. HTC just has better software.

i wish the Mytouch in the front was changed to HTC like the Panache.

overall, VERY nice phone.
At first glance, the MT4G feels like a high-end phone. It feels great in the hand, has the metal backing, no squeaks or creaks to the case, etc.
But at closer inspection, there are a lot of little build imperfections. My particular phone has these issues:
- badly off-centered front and rear cameras
- very loud physical buttons below the screen
- the glass over the screen is not centered (it is flush with the metal bezel on the right, but there is a noticeable gap between them on the left)
- lots of backlight bleed-threw around the screen and physical buttons
There's also the issues of good versus bad eMMC chips, and a huge difference in display quality between the Sharp and Sony SLCD screens.
My opinion is that the phone was designed very well, but the production department dropped the ball when it comes to choosing good components (screen and chip) and assembling the phones (my issues above). It's almost like since T-Mobile is a "budget" carrier, HTC doesn't take phones destined for the T-Mobile network very seriously. It's amazing many MT4G's made it through HTC quality control and out the door...
My opinion...great specs (for the time), uneven execution. I don't plan to upgrade anytime soon, but my phone is super creaky (buttons, battery cover), has so much dust under the lens I can't see the notifications in sunlight and has nearly all of the battery cover coating scratched off (by my fingernail, but still, wtf?). The design is a little ghetto fabulous as well, with all the disparate materials, finishes and design elements.
The myTouch 4G is not the best phone of its generation and the low resale value is rather telling when it comes to what people think of its build quality or its limited T-Mobile-only 3G connectivity, but I think the third-party developer potential for this phone is as good or better than its fellow 2010 model year phones, and it ended up being exactly what I was seeking in my contract-free price range. The only other choices on my radar were the older HTC HD2 and HTC Desire, but the Glacier is a much better piece of hardware.
I'm sure nobody here wants to read this, but to me, the myTouch 4G bears a slight superficial resemblance to the old iPhone form factor with buttons with the rounded, chrome-trimmed bezel. However, the greater angle of the rounded edges, front camera, larger screen, and physical buttons all help give the phone its own character. The physical buttons are a plus for me because I like the tactile feedback even though we've all adapted to not feel a need for it anymore.
The design of the phone is good, but the execution and build has been inconsistent from the good and bad screens and eMMC chips to the tightness of the assembly. I'm extremely meticulous, which made getting a phone off of eBay time-consuming with all the questions I was asking the sellers. Fortunately, I got one in mint condition with a good screen, no dust, no scratches, no backlight bleed, and no creaking whatsoever. The front camera is slightly off-center, but it doesn't bother me at all. I was initially concerned about having a bad eMMC, but it didn't get in the way of rooting.
As for the myTouch moniker, it's not great, but I'm not big on names in general unless they are completely awful. This is what T-Mobile chose to name their flagship line and it is recognizable as one of the better pieces of hardware on the market at its given launch date. At least it was, until now with the new LG junk that doesn't compare to the myTouch 4G Slide. I guess it's better than the crap they've unveiled under the Sidekick name.

I own the G2 and this phone. Both had little quirks however I fixed my hinge on the g2 and as for the mytouch, you can't fix the quirks can u?
Its great, it looks pretty sexy but the logo is ugly, and mine creaks on the left side. Still no idea how to get the creaks out.
Specwise its great. Even the screen is nice, I don't have phone envy.
I feel sorry for the poor saps buying new phones just to update to gingerbread or get a faster processing speed.
Its sexier then the cellphone I used ten years ago.

I don't have any of the problems that all these other people are experiencing. Maybe I just got lucky my phone. The only annoying thing to me is the logo an the lack of a power mat charger( I have to use the cube). My emmc chip is a good one, then screen is the better one also. Never had to change my phone since I bought it in February. No connection issues for me, better yet I never had a single issue with this phone, once.

I also have had zero build problems. Phone is decent spec wise for its time, easy to root and mod, and has a solid feel for its construction. I'm running Faux's CM Nexus Gingerbread 1.3.1.
The MT4G replaced my N1, which is now my back-up phone in case something does ever break. But, even though my N1 is rooted and has a custom rom (Oxygen GB 2.3.7), I find I seldom go back to it because MT4G has more ram, more storage memory, 2nd gen. processor (can OC to 1.84 but is usually at 1.1) and a far better camera for still pictures and 720p video. The only slight edge I would give the N1, which admittedly is older, is the benefit of an Amoled screen for power usage; though both screens are bright and clear enough. Otherwise, both of these phones did everything I needed them to.

I find it funny that whenever I go on engadget (bad site I kno) and read something pertaining to android, there are so many people complaining about how it soo buggy and has so many FCs.Personally I have gotten atmost 10 FCs (mostly with this truly buggy youtube google failed on) with this phone using stock (go launcher ex tho). I have owned this phone since december, got really lucky to not have any hardware issues either. So basically I love my phone Lol!

had an allegiance to htc, but after this, i'm left wanting to try something better...

I agree... quality control from HTC is practically nonexistant. I still would rather have an HTC phone though as long as it's not too bad, because I can't imagine going without their software. Sense is beautiful.

That's just a biased opinion.

if we talking about touchwiz 4.0, yes it's good, but touchwiz 3.0 is ugly.
i think Samsung's phone like a race cars, it has a powerful hardware but its interior is very simple and lack of features, its interior is designed just to make it go fast. HTC's phone is like a exotic cars with wooden dashboard, leather interior, and full of features.
then let say, samsung galaxy s II is ferari fxx, then mytouch 4g is aston martin db9.

It is true that version 4.0 makes TouchWiz look a lot better than it used to, but it's nowhere near as nice looking as Sense.
