[Q] Internal Storage, SD card, Usb Storage - General Questions and Answers

So it's to my understanding Internal storage is for the system and such. Usb storage would be the internal memory, and SD card would obviously be the physical memory card.
I flashed a new rom to my galaxy player, and it seems like it dropped the ball.
Internal storage is correct, that's where the system files are.
"SD card" is now the internal memory. When I take out the actual card, "SD card" is still available.
The actual SD card is now called "usb storage".
I'm pretty sure what happened, is the locations got mixed up going from "internal storage / sd" to "internal / usb / sd"
Everything works fine, except that my 16gb sd card isn't recognized by the player.
Does anyone know anything about this? I've been digging through the forums and googling all day so I figured I might as well start up a thread. Thanks for any help whatsoever.

Weird Memory Location Problem

I have a HTC Touch (Elf) with the 1GB memory card.
When I download or install something, even if I tell it to save to memory card, it still seems to go onto the internal memory. I don't quite understand what's going on, but it is of course limiting what I can do as the internal memory is very small.
When selecting install location as 'Storage Card' its as if the shortcut to that is pointing to some location on internal memory, as checking the memory usage shows my internal memory depleting and my storage card not changing.
Unless I move files by cutting and pasting afterwards.
Cheers in advance.

OK to narrow the problem down a bit... when I install something and it gives you the option where to install it i.e. on phone or storage card, whether I pick phone OR storage card it always ends up on the phone.
I cannot install programs to storage card! Which is not good as the phone memory is tiny!
Any ideas please?

[Q] Sd card

God day everyone. I'm a proud owner of HAM7. I'm having some issues on the micro sd cards and hope this forum can help me.
I inserted a 32gb micro sd card into the phone but there is a notification saying "blank sd card- sd card is blank or has unsupported file ..."
When I pressed this notification it asked to format sd card (I have earlier done it on pc). Nevertheless, I still proceed with formatting it on the phone but there was no notification whether the phone format is successful.
The micro sd card I'm using is Kingston 32gb class 10. My main purpose for the sd card is to store photos.
Also when I take photos on the camera, it says "sd card is full and photos will be save in internal storage" even though I default saving of photos to sd card.
My questions are,
(1) what format of the micro sd card should be? Fat 32? Any other format?
(2) how else can I use the sd card as storage other than defaulting it at "setting"? Actually I only want the photos to be saved into the sd card.
Appreciate any response to the above.
Cheers

whatsapp media not storing in sd card even after formatting it as internal storage

i brought a class 10 32 GB samsung sd card and formatted it as internal storage but still the sd card was visible in my computer when connected and the whatsapp data was not moved to the sd card. any solution?
Try formatting it to Portable and then internal again. Then go into internal storage and tap the options menu (aka Burger Menu) and then select Migrate Data. It will now migrate all the data from your Internal Storage to the SD Card. It will also then store stuff automatically to the SD Card. Well at least that worked for me, I couldn't seem to store pictures and videos taken with the camera to the SD card. I hope it works for you too

Adoptable storage, missing external SD card, double internal card in Windows

I can't seem to find this exact problem anywhere, so forgive me if its been posted somewhere already.
I used MoDaCo's method to enable adoptable storage quite some time ago. I partitioned my
SD card into 2 volumes and kept one as an external SD card and one for the adoptable storage.
Initially, when I would plug my phone into my Windows pc, it would recognize both an internal and external card. Now, it does not. I *think* the change may have happened around the same time I upgraded to nougat.
Currently the phone seems to recognize both partitions - in fact the camera defaults to putting new photos on the external partition. When I go to Settings> Device Maintenance > Storage it lists :
53.5GB / 64 GB for the internal and an "SD Card" with 12.6GB / 23.4 GB.
ES File Explorer lists:
Internal Storage - 19/34 GB
External Storage - 12/23 GB
However, when I plug it into my PC, it shows my device, i double click on my device and it shows 2 hard drives, both with the same size. And if you click on either, you access the exact same files - which are internal files.
Anyone have any idea how to fix this? I would really appreciate the help.
Thanks!
I have attached a couple of screenshots from the PC and the phone in case it helps clear up my less than clear explanation. Thanks again.
Since it looks like this is some odd twist of fate that has bitten me in the ass - I have a followup question. If I turn off my phone, remove the flash drive, and put it into a PC machine will everything be ok or will I wind up crying myself to sleep at night? In other words, since there are 2 partitions (the encrypted, adoptable storage one and the normal external sd card one), windows should ignore the encrypted and just see the external SD one right? If I do this, windows isn't going to freak at the encryption and jack something up is it? I would rather not have to reinstall all the apps I have on the card.
Thanks again in advance.

Main storage not available on Motorola G7 power

Hi!
I have Motorola G7 power xt-1955-4.
And I also got a 512gb Kingston hama sdcard.
The card was formatted as internal storage.
The problem is that today I saw that I can't access the files on my phone. This happened after I moved several files from phone to my computer, to free up some space.
Now, when I open File manager it shows "main storage not available".
I reinserted my SD card a couple of times, but I keep having a notification saying "checking sdcard... Reviewing current content".
When I go to Settings - Storage it says only "sdcard checking..".
When I press on "Checking sd card" notification only it gives me the option to Forget.
How can I access my SD card without formatting it?
Thank you.
You said you moved some files from the card to your PC? How did you do this? If you removed the card from the phone and put it in your PC, then what you effectively did was slice off part of your phone's storage, messed with the files, and put it back in. You cut off a piece of brain, rooted around in it, and tried to reattach it.
Internal storage means the card is not removable, and the storage space will be filled with files essential to the phone. Chances are to get the card to work again it needs to be reformatted.

Sorry I'm a bit late. I had this same issue recently. Until now, I have had a problem with any program recognizing the drive without offering to format it first. I can't do that because I am stupid and had important files on there I need. I just located DiskGenius and I am running it now.
Not sure this will repair the issue, but it recognized the sd card which I had set as the primary storage not knowing something like this could happen. It is running a search now for bad sectors. When it finds them, it will provide a repair, but the sectors will be deleted. I am hoping it won't be the sectors that contain my files that I need to recover. But it's a step in the right direction.
I now know not to set an sd card as main storage for Android, because it encrypts the files, and it tied the SD card to the system. I can't even install apps right now because the main storage is non existent.
I just had to throw out a 62g card due to corruption. I do t know how it happened but I eventually had to factory reset/wipe phone. I put the card in a laptop to reformat it. Wouldn't work. I'm getting a new card, but I will not make it phone storage. Bummed me out.
