[Q] Moving from 4.5 inch screen to larger? - Samsung Infuse 4G

Can anyone give me some practical insight into the actual use of a 4.7 inch phone. Looking into Galaxy Nexus or HTC One X. They are both longer than the Infuse but not as wide and thinner I believe. How does they compare in terms of actual feel in the hand? Do they feel huge? Are they pocketable? I mean regular work pants not cargo pants or carpenter jeans. Have big hands but Infuse is a bit unwieldly. So wondering if I might not be better off with a One S. How is the petiole screen coming from an Infuse.
I cannot just go into a store and try these phones for myself as they are unavailable in my country. Have to order online.

I have the Galaxy Note which is bigger than both and it size is barely noticeable unless watching a video,etc..

size matters...
says the "bigs"
bigfau is correct...I was lucky to find a Note in the store, and i lay'd my Infuse on top the Note was not that much bigger...but did have diff feel....if you will...
and more screen...more visible for me...plus my eyeballs not like they use to be...

Thanks for the feedback. Did some comparisons at GSMArena. Bezels must be really thin.

Hey, bigfau!
I'm thinking about exchanging my Galaxy Nexus for the Note... what do you think? Worth the possibility of not getting any more upgrades; is it speedy with official ICS?

Straight stock is kinda laggy on the Note, but its still a BEAST. Custom roms make it a super phone or super phablet if you will. You can take a screen shot with the swipe of your hand.Bunch of nifty [email protected]#. With more to come.

I have an N7000 (International Note) - While it's wide/tall, it's very thin. My I777 and ltilt2's Infuse feel like tiny toys to me now. I don't think I'll ever be able to go back to another non-Note device.

I know. Texting on the Infuse feels cramped even worse on the Captivate.

I recently picked up an HTC One X to upgrade from my Infuse, and I can say that the difference is barely noticeable. You're talking about a very small size increase when you really think about it. 0.2" bigger on the screen, but more importantly is the size difference of the entire phone. The Infuse is 132x71x9mm, the One X is 134x70x8.9mm. So the size difference is 2mm by 1mm which I assure you, you wouldn't even notice.

Go bigger.. Just not to the 4.8..whatever you do. Imo.

Anyone switching to the galaxy nexus?

I was thinking about switching to a galaxy nexus today because I can technically get it for free if I give up my S2, but I am not sure if it is a good move or not.
With the S2 having full cyanogen and miui support, the only 2 roms I really use, the only thing it seems like I would gain with the nexus is a bigger screen.
Is anyone going to switch to the nexus? If so, why are you switching? I don't want to switch and then regret it. I only have until the 21st to be able to get the galaxy nexus for free so I am going to have to make a decision without being able to see the phone in person.
I'm considering it but the cost is off putting because I'll have to buy off contract. I like the idea of a pure Google phone and the bigger screen would be nice
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
My contract was up 3 weeks ago, so i thought about waiting for the nexus, or getting the gs2, the no sd card was the decider for me, that and an sure the gs community will bee bigger then the nexus community, though granted both will be big enough
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Most of the enhancements are because of ICS, which we will get in a couple months anyway. The bigger screen isn't much different because the size includes the part of the screen that will display the buttons. If you measured to the end of our buttons, we'd have almost the same screen size (the resolution is great but its also pentile). The camera is a toss up (Nexus shoots faster, we have 3 more megapixels). NFC doesn't matter yet for me in the US (I have never seen a place to pay for anything with NFC, not even one time).
Bottom line, If I had the choice, I'd rather have the Nexus. It will get the fastest software updates and its great hardware. But its not worth spending a lot of money on coming from the GSII which will be 95 percent as good once we get ICS.
Both are similar in my opinion...galaxy wins on extra sd support, camera and will get ics finally..also is more pocket friendly..nexus is taller...
Nexus has a better screen.....
I will wait for galaxy s3
If it had Super Amoled PLUS, I would.
Im getting it but I wouldn't switch. The Hardware acceleration probably be better on the S2 due to better GPU + Lower screen resolution. Also the downside of not having micro sd slot.
I've ordered it at Amazon but is due for 2nd Decemeber (sucks!) but probably be returning it after some fun use with it (14 days policy).
Apparently Galaxy Nexus is not getting Flash also, together with many other issues like no sd-card, worst camera, no Touchwiz and other stuff, nasty pentile screen with higher battery drain, huge uncomfortable size.
I took my decision for SII when I could get Nexus Prime, as far as I know many are completely ignoring Nexus and will hopefully wait for the next gen SIII.
I would have if I was able to transfer my 64GB MicroSDXC card to it.
No offence to the OP but there has already been several threads relating to this please use search function.

Where is this no flash business?
I just got SGSII. I used Infuse 4G which has 4.5" screen, and I think SGSII screen size is perfect. As others mentioned, only benefit with Galaxy Nexus is ICS. But I think I can wait couple of month for ICS update on my SGSII. I'm pretty happy with mine.

Ok so I missed out screen res. Camera is more than good enough for me on gs2. And as I said we're getting ics officially and the will be plenty of vanilla ports around. Not saying the nexus is bad, just not enough for me to swap is all

i wouldn't switch..not a sniff. the nexus is totally hideous...gs2 is the sweetspot.

Nope, not switching. If you remove ICS your left with a pretty standard Android device.

Does anyone here actually like the Galaxy Nexus?

I just used one for a while, I do not like it. It is too large.
If the Nexus S4G had the internals of the Galaxy Nexus I would keep it forever. It looks like I will be keeping it for a while longer, I don't really see any other viable options at this point.
Discuss.
I actually like it. I have big hands so it feels good to me.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda premium
Well you'll be waiting a longtime for that amazing phone with a smaller screen than what's been coming out. In case you are blind to trends, every new top of the line phone that's been coming out for the last few years, the screen size gets bigger and bigger. But don't worry, you'll fit in with the rest of the grandparents who don't stay up with the times lol. btw when I say "you" its just generally speaking for all the other people who are waiting for the next bad ass phone with a tiny screen.
Sent from my Nexus S 4g using xda premium
I have tiny hands (only 5'6") and while I agree the SGN is large it isn't unmanageable. That coupled with just how awesome this device is I would urge people not to pass it up as being too large without trying it in store first. It really is an epic device
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I had the Evo, and I thought that was even too large. For me, 4" is the sweet spot for phones.
I'm well aware of recent trends, just stating personal preference.

Nothing wrong with personal preference lol. I'm fond of our current screen size too but I'm up for change unlike a lot of people here who refuse or totally **** talk a phone because of the screen size and ***** how its garbage and going to wait for the next best phone (which will just be bigger than the last lol) I think the current phones out now will be the standard size for screens 4in to 5.x in. Any larger than 6in is just not that practical.
Sent from my Nexus S 4g using xda premium
Why, hell yeah I do. Sure it's ****huge, but I can deal with it. If I had the money, I would've bought it instantly, so I'm just gonna get the next phone once it is out.
But with that said, it's completely understandable if it's too big for most people.
But now that we run ICS, I'm still completely satisfied with this Nexus S.
I tend to agree. In my opinion the form factor of the nexus s is close to perfect. If the galaxy nexus was exactly the same bit instead with a 4 in screen it would be absolutely perfect.
tapa tapa tapa
+1 to what mrhaxx1 said. ICS works very well on my Nexus S. Realistically, I can't justify forking out another $600 or more for a Galaxy Nexus right now, so the NS will do me for the foreseeable future.
As for the size of the Galaxy Nexus, although there is a sizeable minority that agrees with the OP that it's too big, for most people the added screen real estate and resolution compensate for the inconvenience when using it one-handed. I'd love a GN if I could afford one, the size wouldn't bother me although I don't have very large hands.
Whilst it's nice and powerful, I've used one for a bit in a shop and I must say I wasn't really that impressed. Maybe it was a faulty model but it was pretty laggy, and I was shocked at how dull and muddy the screen was. Nice res so it's pretty sharp, but I found that my TFT Blade was actually brighter than the Galaxy on full brightness, never mind my S-LCD Nexus S...
I have a tablet, so I typically use that for my more Internet-intensive activities. My issue isn't with how it feels in my hand, but how it feels in my pocket. The Nexus S is perfect for what I typically use my phone for, which is checking scores, phone calls, and SMS.
I have an epic touch and I like it alot. But I love a galaxy nexus. Like more than any phone ever made kind of love. Like I might move everybody to Verizon and pay 1000 dollars kind of love.

I like Galaxy Nexus very much but it's too expensive.
So my solution is Nexus S + ICS 4.0.3
I think it's too big but i will buy it if it comes to Sprint.
Has anyone who has actually seen and used the phone noticed that even with the elongated screen and on-screen soft keys, that there is still enough room below the screen for Nexus-S type soft keys?

I love that phone. I can't wait for sprint to get it. Alot of people are mad at things with the phone. At the end of the day I dont think Google wants it to he a nexus vs iPhone battle. Its Android as a whole. That's why I think the camera isnt a big deal. Remember the nexus are developers phones. I don't feel they are for doing battle with iPhone. While the camera lacks a bit its a easy trade for knowing we will get updates fast.

Really, this isn't a solid argument for the Galaxy Nexus over the iPhone.
Haven't played with one, but after reading some reviews, I'm disappointed in the camera. Indoor pictures aren't that great and while most phones are using 8mp, GN is still stuck at 5mp, why is that?
So far ICS is working fine on the NS4G and who knows when Sprint will get it. So, I may just wait til the next Nexus to come out (hopefully it'll come out exclusively to Sprint first, longshot though).

Mega pixel have nothing to do with a cameras performance. The epic has a 5mp camera and the HTC evo has an 8 and the pics looked and came out so much better on the epic. Its all in the optics used for the camera.

Goodbye SR, Thanks everyone

So bought my Skyrocket back in october the first day it was released, dont get me wrong, i love the phone, but I recently moved on. 2 weeks ago I bought a galaxy note after trying a friends for awhile and grew to love the size. After using my note for 2 weeks I cant see having a use for my old skyrocket, especially since holding it in my hand makes it feel small. I cant imagine going back to anything smaller which sucks, but I love it for the time being. Anyways I got off work today and met up with someone on craigslist who bought my skyrocket, so I just wanted to say thank you everyone for al the help, glad you guys finally got ICS, and hope that us note users get it soon too.
Good bye, you lucky bastard.

This was almost me. My friend got one. I fell in love with it and bought one too. Two weeks later I tried the ICS leak and realized how much I missed my Skyrocket, so I switched back.
Samsung Skyrocket i727 - ICS Leaked - XDA Premium
Skyrocket feels small? Really? Been two months and it still feels like I'm holding a surfboard. Hopefully I'll get used to it.
Enjoy the Note.
I actually went from the SR to the note and came back to the SR. I found the size made things like taking pictures, docking, finding a decent case, and even privacy with people being more able to see my screen too much. Traded it for a SR, ipod touch, camera, and some wii games for my kid.
Bedt decision I made.
Hopefully you like it and don't end up regretting it like I did! Good luck!

You would be surprised how many times I get asked "does it look or feel weird making calls on it?". I simply put it up yo my face and always here either "oh that's not too bad" or "that's actually pretty good".

Been there. I just couldn't handle the two-handed operation and risk dropping it when I tried using it one-handed. The case I bought did enhance the grip but it didn't make enough of a difference. Plus it was heavier, some apps didn't line up correctly with that resolution and the lag was noticeable even after I swapped kernels.
That said, if my wife still complains about her iphone and the new SR HD or SGS3 isn't out yet, I may need to repurchase a Note and pass my SR to her. Purely out of necessity though.
The note is a nice piece of hardware, but like others have said. It's a bit too big. I think the 4.5" to 4.65" range is as big as a smartphone should be.
I'm 6 foot 1 and have big hands and I find it sometimes hard to use my SR with one hand. I can't even imagine a 5.3" screen.
Its funny you mention it being laggier, for some reason my stock SR did 1800-2200 quadrant, then 2800-3100 with faux kernal. My note constantly hits 3100 stock. I know others have complained about lag issues, but guess I'm one of the lucky ones. Waiting for a ICS leak before i root it

I came to the SR from a dell streak - the size got old for me. Wanted a phone i could easily text one handed with and fit a little better in my pockets With a tablet, no need for me. But the note looks like the great best of both worlds device. After a 5 inch device, yes - the skyrocket even seems 'small'
The screen on the note is just amazing, but i just can't stand the two handed operation lmao

Envy you.
I posted my SR on kijiji looking for a trade with Note... figured someone would be dissatisfied with the big screen... but I love it and want it lol
I do have to question your particular choice of timing, haha. It's a fun time to have a Skyrocket.
But the Note's a great (big) phone so congrats. I felt like it was too big when I played with it, but I bet if I had it for a week I'd get pretty used to the size and spoiled by that big screen. And my DrawSomething compositions would be epic.

I Want BIGGER

So I started with an enV Touch..upgraded to droid x2; the 4.3 inch screen felt huge!! Especially compared to my friends' iPhones. Then I upgraded to the Galaxy S3, and once again, the screen felt huge, in a good way!
Does anyone else want to go bigger once again or am I the only one?! That is one MAJOR appeal the Note 2 has on me. Thought others might suffer from this want to always go a little bigger

Definitely excited about the S4, especially if it has the 5in edge-to-edge display you are talking about
Prior to getting the S3, I had looked at the Note2 and the only downfall that I saw was that it was only 2 inches smaller than my galaxy tab 2. Felt very large when talking on it. Then again, I could have just gotten a bluetooth for calls. I think the S3 is a perfect size for what I need it for.

It's one thing for the iPhone to be bigger finally, but with the screen not getting any WIDER, it still just feels tiny. One advantage of android's selection of phones; there's one size for everyone!!

My progression was a bit different, it went like this:
iPhone ATT
iPhone 3G ATT
iPhone 3GS ATT
iPhone 4 ATT
iPhone 4S VZW traded after a month or so for a
Galaxy Nexus VZW
Galaxy S3 VZW
I finally got sick of Apple not adding features that were now common place in the Android community such as a larger screen, the Nexus was an outstanding phone but I wanted larger screen with better battery life and better signal reception so I jumped to the only bigger screen available at the time, the S3, had I stuck it out with ATT I would have had the OG Note, I wanted so badly for it to come to VZW but it didn't, now that the Note 2 is on VZW I will be moving to that by the end of January!

In some areas of NYC it will work and in some it won't. Either way..the Nexus 4 is a MUCH better phone with a better processor, more RAM and updates from Google. Just becaue the HTC has an overpriced retail cost doesn't mean it is better...

Dude, even HOX non Plus with the Snapdragon S4 beats out Tegra 3. It is the most overrated mobile CPU out there.

Please read the following and I would disagree with your statement.
http://www.technobuffalo.com/2012/04/11/benchmarked-nvidia-tegra-3-vs-qualcomm-snapdragon-s4/
Another note to consider is that HTC makes phones with better quality then Samsung or LG. I.ve had S2 and S3 both have plastic wear and my brother's LG is same way.
If HTC one X+ works on T-mobile, I like to go for it and trade my S3 out in a heartbeat!

Way to revive a 2 and a half month old thread just to be a smartass. Benchmarks don't tell us anything
I doubt the OP even cares anymore as he had probably made his choice. Also, he had a nexus 4 and not a galaxy s3. The n4 is not made with plastic. Please read
Edit: the galaxy s3 is not plastic either. Its polycarbonate

I was searching if HTC One X+ would work with Tmobile high speed data and that is how I came across this post.
I do not mean to be smartass but simply stating that Tegra 3 is not blown out by S4. OP might have made a choice but all I am saying is that HTC makes better product than Samsung and LG in general. When spending $500 or more on a phone I rather have a phone which has decent quality and premium feel to it.
By the way polycarbonate is nothing but more durable plastic and has similar look and feel.

I'm sorry to burst your bubble but the Nexus 4 is less than $400.
Anyways sorry for coming off as rude, however choosing to trade in the Nexus 4 for an HTC One X+ is NOT worth it, as he is giving up HSPA+42 (now LTE as well), for limited markets with HSPA+21, as well as an S4 Pro, amazing development support, updates straight from Google, no bloat or branding, and bugfree custom ROMs.
Polycarbonate/plastic have the advantage over aluminum and glass in the fact that it is lighter. I don't give a fck but you can't just call out those materials just because they "feel cheap." Why does this even matter to the OP? He never mentioned any Samsung

I was under the the impression that the re-framed 1900Mhz does HSPA+42! The phone might be able to do that but not sure on either!
As for Samsung or plastic, I am simply voicing my opinion after using S2 and S3. Nexus brand however does better with quality even though it is made by Samsung or LG.

Well AT&T devices don't support HSPA+42 anyway, so even if the reframed network does HSPA+42, the phone itself would not access it.
