Hi :) T-Mobile gave me this phone for free. - myTouch 4G General

Hi guys im new to XDA but not new to Android development i used to have Cricket service (which sucked) and signed with T-Mobile and got this phone for free After spending all week reading all these threads i can say im one of the lucky ones since i got the good chip and good screen and rooted my phone and im running Sysnthetic_Aospx great rom btw. Any other good roms that i should try? Anywho im rooted and this isnt another "which rom is better" im actually a developer and i want to get my hands dirty and try and compile kernels any guides out there for me to start compiling and building my kernel environment?
I know my way around developing roms and wanted to know what developers develop for this device im willing to give you guys a hand if u need it or just be a tester.
Btw my name is Mr. Iffy ill try to help when i can hopefully one of the devs can help me with an Ice cream kernel to develop for this device. If someone can also tell me what devs are here i only see like 4 of them Synthetic and elginsk8r and awesome and cnote. Thanks guys hopefully i can be more of help around here.

Welcome! It's great to have another dev among us. Unfortunately, we have lost many of our devs to other devices, but a few talented ones remain. Hopefully you and the remaining devs will be able to bring a fully functional ICS Sense ROM to our little community.
Again, welcome!

Kernels are difficult, i dont really know enoguh to teach you but there are plenty of guides. It tooks me 3 hours to compile 10% of a kernel and the process failed due to one of the files. We should collarborate.

MIUI ROM port. Major progress! Calling all devs!

Hi everyone! We are currently in the middle of porting the MIUI ROM to our mdpi devices (g1, hero, magic).
We have successfully ported ALL of the pngs in all of the apks to be compatible with our devices. This was a huge undertaking and it was keeping a lot of devs from wanting to get involved. Now that this big "hinderance" is out of the way, I'm hoping some talented devs will be willing to get involved.
I have posted all the semi-ported apks (by semi-ported, I mean the images are all mdpi now) in a zip file that can be downloaded by any devs who are willing to help get the MIUI rom ported to our devices. If you'd like to download the MIUI mdpi apks, you can visit our thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858935
I don't have any dev skills, so I can't help beyond what I've already done. It is officially now in the hands of the community to take the next necessary steps to a full MIUI port. I hope that our two groups (hero and g1) can cooperate in making this happen!
That is my reason for posting here.
Hope we can get this thing working!

Question is how are you gonna get it to boot on our arm6 ? with out GPU and all ><
Could you please post a video on YOUTUBE showing how you flashed SPL 1.33.0013d SPL and 2.22.28.25 Radio. It might be very simple for you but for many noobies and mid-level flashers ,its quite troublesome. The links and everything else is there on the web but flashing in fastboot has been challenging. Flashing through rom manager has not worked after several tries. Kindly help in anyway you can. Thanks in advance. My email is [email protected].............

what do you mean? they( official android developers ) say gingerbread should run faster than a phone running froyo
plus hes actually going to start on it pretty soon according to some tweets...
but ontopic a port miui would be pretty cool to mess around with.
The majority of APKs don't work
I really want a MIUI port :|

Not sure thats why, i think its mostly lack of will Lox already submited the Hero code for instance. For dream/sapphire wouldn't be much harder, either way, it dosen't matter all that much, we will have builds based on the AOSP code.
So I take it this has been forgotten and moved beyond? MIUI would be really nice... /sigh
any devs working on this.. can someone explain to me if this is possible or not and why?

the thing you gotta ask yourself like the others are saying is what do you want your rom to have. you want a theme feel to it or do you wanna keep it looking stock. also gotta figure if you wanna add some tweaks or not. there's a lot you gotta figure out before you make a rom. also, you gotta know a lot about what does what when tweaking and all that. i was also thinking about doing some roms myself, but then decided against cause i for one don't have the time nor do i have the patience the devs here have. you also gotta remember that there are gonna be people here who want you to change some things about your rom. and not to mention, you gotta have the time to offer support for it as well. if you do decide to go for it, i wish you the best of luck and look forward to seeing your work.
well i do want to learn how to tweak the phone and themes and all that good stuff, i recently messaged raver and he gave me a good start, so i will start studying linux and java then ill be back hopefully with enough info to tweak some newer OS leak or if anything help out on another phone ( hopefully it wont be that long) but like i said i want to learn for self knowledge and also to help create some awesome stuff in the XDA
and i do have the time to support and modify roms as needed.
so if anyone has any advice on the best way to learn linux and java faster post post post!!! lol
and ill come back and read between my readings thanks for not being jerks by the way lol
Also i might base my rom on Android 2.1 J/K haha but im off to a good start tonight

if you wanna base a rom on froyo, by all means go for it. you would be surprised how many people still run on froyo here. some are afraid to take the plunge to gingerbread cause its not official yet for our device. go with what you feel is best. personally, i think there should be a dev who still makes roms for froyo for those who don't wanna take the plunge. its all up to you though. good luck with your journey either way though.
your right im on raver's octaine and its cool but a couple days ago i flashed back to Audiophile Redux 1.3.3 and i saw a big difference in radio and wifi strength so i might actually start off with a Froyo rom, but i was just making a joke earlier cus i said 2.1 like an eclair rom lol
sence so many are intrested in this actually didnt think that many would.. after i update my roms maybe before then i dono... Ill make you all a compendium of how to build apps how to modify exzisting roms how to build your own rom aka asop how to port roms theme them etc... Ill also prob ask krylon and whitehawk and any other dev that wants to contribute to this. If anyone does. It doesnt hurt and hey if a few ore devs come out of it so be it .. If anyone ever has a question 99 percent of the time u can ask people i will reply and give u the answer or if i dont know the answer ill direct you to the proper place to look for it
haha aawesome!!! see this is exactly why i only flash Raver roms!!! wooo i went from octaine 1.0 to audiophile redux to octaine 2.x to audiophile x2 back to octaine 2.x haha
If Raver leaves my phones post- SGS4G will all remain stock lol
im also looking into modding nd tweaking roms myself so a guide like the one raver is gonna make would be very helpful. thanks in advance
As the OP can i erase some comments on this post? lol just asking...again!
also one more question im back to Audiophile Redux 1.3.3 would the SGS4G Adrenaline shot v12 work with my Froyo rom?

[Q] What to know for rom development?

Android is a great OS, and flashing new roms is one of the best experiences when it comes to your device
I know how to root, flash roms, kernels, and radios, but I want to know more. I'd like to get into rom development, mainly from source code.
I do have experience with computer languages. I can build a nice website in Notepad using HTML. JavaScript is no problem either. I also dabbled in CSS.
What exactly should I know to eventually know the ins and outs of rom development? What languages, PC environments, etc?

You will need a Linux distro to build rom source and most of it is in Java C+ and C++
Or u can just use dsixda's online kitchen. It the UOT kitchen

Yes. But he didn't ask about making a rom from source. He could take an existing rom, modify the ui and release it as his own version :
Oh well. Who am I to contradict a senior mod

Well you're right.
I hope op got his answer
Hey, so the best way is to jump right into development. Go and download the official AOSP tree. This side will guide you:
http:
//source.android.com/source/downloading.html
So you need to be able to handle a linux machine, should know about java and c/c++, git and repo. Do not get frustrated it is really a lot of stuff that you will need on your way. But it is worth it.
I recommend that you start with stock AOSP as this is staight forward and should build stable. A google development device is a must have to verify your roms as those are official supported and as newbie you really do not want to start hacking/porting/steeling/manipulating device drivers to get things working .
If you passed this hurdles you can start to modify small parts of the system an so on...
Good luck and have fun
Much appreciation. Thanks have been given.

Possible to port miui

Quick question I was browsing through the RAZR forum and noticed the RAZR miui uses the same kernel as the atrix 2 and would like to know if it's possible to port and if so can someone point me in the right direction to do so...thank you and sorry for starting a new thread
You could give it a try... it looks like you'd have to port the RAZR port of MIUI to the A2.
Not sure at all how it would work out, but here's a guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1499411

Just to let everyone know, your devs have been talking and we are throwing around the idea of porting most these nice "custom" ROMs over from the RAZR, things like CM9/10, MIUI, and AOKP.
We are in the early phases and I am playing with a test build that I have completed of the CM9 from the RAZR, but we can not flash ROMs with bootmenu at the moment, so everyone hang tight, and we will see what we can come up with.
I am sure there will be more news on this as things progress....
Anyone who would like to give porting a try with us, PM me, but ONLY if you are serious and don't mind taking some input from the rest of the A2 dev team.

Android Kitchen Rom porting?

Hey Everybody,
Has anybody tried using Android Kitchen by dsixda to port roms to our device, the one sv?
According to the Kitchen's thread it was built for Htc devices....
I am new to porting and porting to htc devices seems much harder than porting to Samsung devices?!
I have tried using ViperSv.. It's horrible.. I mean it's really laggy .. I am currently using the stock rom with many Xposed mods.
What exactly do you expect it should do for you?
Porting other roms will need either very much resizing to resolution of SV or finding drivers/files that work with its hardware (in simple words).
In both cases the kitchen will not do the work for you.
I thought you left! Welcome Back
I thought porting is just copying kernel files/drivers and using a rom from a device with the same res. #noobinglikeaboss

Well, if it would be that easy....
I don't want to discourage you, but at least some basic knowledge is needed.
I tried to port Desire 500 dump, but it didn't even boot, so i think you need a good guide, to do that.
Awww.. Well I thought it would be easy since Cm gets ported instantly to every new device
