You wouldn't be able to replace the backup app without root. at least as far as i know.

I was getting some force close when trying to read a pm in tapatalk..so I uninstalled tapatalk & xda..then there was an update for titanium,,at that point the phone seemed to hang, so I rebooted the phone and then it would give me multiple force close of just about every app..keyboard force close etc...& some icons at the top of the screen that I have never seen before..ie a circular battery icon..
I was able to boot into rom manager..but not sure what to do next? Don't want to make it any worse..lol
What ROM?

stock. but I used cwm & restored... Only points of concern... The only two things that I did... uninstalled xda & Tapatalk... updated titanium & supersu this afternoon...
Everything was force closing.. No keyboard.... Really strange!
So at the moment it's fine... But WEIRD!

Thanks.. Just don't understand why.... I don't know if this started with talkapk, it was force closing when I was trying to open a pm.. or if it was titanium or supersu?
kind of freaked me out though...!
A great reason for backups

Yeah, maybe... It seemed fine at first... Now just updating some 200+ apps Fortunately I had a CWM backup from a couple weeks ago....
But nothing worked on the phone... Thankfully I could get into recovery... Phew

Fixing force close issues
The best thing to do for force closes is to go into ROM Manager, scroll down to where you see "Fix Permissions" and run them. It fixes force close problems all the time for me

Thanks, but the phone was at the point where it was unusable... The only functionality was with the volume & power buttons... Lesson learned... Along with Titanium do a CWM backup weekly... It's amazing how much you can change on your phone, without realising it!

Can someone tell me if there's a to automatically clear running apps in background and memory that's good? Also is there a app to get rid of all the bloatware on a galaxy S2?
Thanks
Android os handles the memory well on its own, you don't wanna use task killers.
For freezing or uninstalling bloat you can use titanium backup

You need to read over the stickies and do some Google searching. I don't know what you mean by text when your phone is locked

one, each person named a different app that will do the job. titanium backup, root uninstaller pro, ROM toolbox, system tuner, all good choices (u only need ONE of the above). that answer clear?
for SMS, the stock default app will work, handcent is good, I personally use a slightly older version of gosms as the new one is bloated.

I have looked in the playstore and most backup apps need root to backup app data. I bought a Skyrocket for a friend of mine overseas and I want to make sure he can transfer data from his apps to the Skyrocket. His phone is stock and not rooted. Anyone know a way to backup app data without root??

Lifehacker.com recommends Carbon. Haven't tried it yet myself. It's on my wishlist. Using App backup & restore by Infolife LLC myself. Haven't had the need to do a restore yet, so don't know if it's really good.

A lot of apps backup the apk's but not all will backup the data that goes with them without root. Super backup needs root to restore app data.

I don't see how that would happen unless he flashed a CM rom meant for a different phone on his VZW GSIII. So your friend no longer has the /EFS folder correct? What is his phone doing now or rather what is he unable to do presently? Does it boot? Able to get into download mode or recovery? Not making calls/texts/data?
I'm a little surprised by this, I'm not too sure how to fix an entire missing EFS folder.

But he doesn't have a previous EFS backup to begin with. How does he make a new one?
I keep a EFS backup in my internal sdcard with a list of the various permissions, so I have one just in case something terrible happens
