[Q] TF101 recovery drivers WILL NOT install. - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Trying to fix my recovery boot loop. I need ADB access in recovery, and the drivers won't install. I've tried PDAnet, I've tried ASUS sync, I've tried download the drivers itself and point window to it when it prompts for drivers, and it continuously says it can't install.
Help. Please. NOW. I'm about to break it.. Send it flying.. You know, the usual.
EDIT: I was having issues with installing drivers for my TF101, but these helped me out and fixed my issue.

So, I just used an installer to put my windows 7 into test mode..
What in the world is that? Seriously. -__- I feel noobish, I don't like it.

Trying an nvflash .bat for .17
Seeing if my recovery boot loop still exists.
How can I re-root without getting that loop?

test mode allows unsigned drivers
to turn it off (otherwise every time you boot youll see that testmode water mark in the bottom right)
run cmd as administrator and type the following command.
"Bcdedit.exe -set TESTSIGNING OFF" without the quotes
and cmd should display a message saying that the operation completed successfully

I think this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1514942 may have just helped me with my no ADB in recovery issue..

Dont use adb install, use adb push. But you probably knew that.

Son of a *****. His drivers fixed it! I wanna send that man some dough, this was a killer project..
ADB gave me some issues too, but disabling antivirus does a lot to help it. lol.

hi i can install this driver in win xp
device manager said : the specified location doest not contain information about your hardware

Justin, use windows 7, plug in your tab in recovery, normal, AND APX, and in each mode, uninstall the drivers using device manager. You'll know which drivers are yours because they will either have a yellow icon next to them or they will pop up in device manager when you plug it in. Once all modes have been uninstalled, download his driver pack and plug your device in while in APX mode. IF windows 7 doesn't automatically install your drivers which it did for me, then use the "browse for drivers manually" option, then point it to the main folder that you downloaded. Unzip, if needed. You should see i368 and amd64 folders, don't select those. Select its parent folder. I may be wrong about that part, but if i am, just keep repointing the browsing tool and checking for drivers. You should be able to find the correct ones, because I did.
APX mode isn't necessary for repairing the bootloop. I fixed mine doing a flash in recovery and doing a few ADB commands before leaving recovery. It was easy, once I got my drivers installed. Google "recovery boot loop TF101" and find the post that explains those steps I mentioned. It's not on xda, but it did save my butt.
Best of luck!

There's been reports on APX mode not working on Firmware 8.6.5.9. Is there a way for you to check it's firmware? Are you bricked? Are you making sure you're not connecting the tab through the dock? What about things like recovery, can you get into recovery? Do you know how to get into APX mode?
All important questions.

firmware shouldn't touch APX mode at all. usually its a volume key order pressing problem

[Q] HELP can't connect to PdaNet

Ok so I hope someone can help. My issue is this. When I try to connect to PdaNet I get this message "please kill Android Debug Bridge (adb.exe)" . I use my device to tether, and really need this working. Yes, I can tether wirelessly. But it eats a lot of battery. What do I need to do? Also, if I'm turning something off, how do I tun it back on if I need it later?
Adb start-server and kill-server I think it is. It won't hurt anything to turn it off.
Usually when you use an adb command it says server is out of date... killing (for me anyway)
What rom are you running? I'm pretty sure wired tether works on Evervolv right in the Wireless and Networks menu.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm using the Stock Sence Rom. Just typed it in. It says " 'adb' is not recognized as an internalor external command, operable program or batch file" . I forgot do I have to type something in before I type adb? Or to get to adb before I can turn it off?

Go to the Android SDK and navigate to tools or platform-tools (depending on which version you have, probably the latter) and open up a terminal (command prompt) in that location. The commands might not be exact, I get them confused from time to time

Well after much BS, and a lot of help from all you guys. I got it figured out. Seems adb exe. turns on automtically everytimeI connectmy phone . Well what I had to do is connect, then open task manager and end adb exe . Only thing isnow I can't seem to restart adb . But I got PdaNet working, even on 4G.
I downloaded the android sdk and eclipse. Over pdanet w/ no prob.
But when I tried to download packages from the repo adb.exe interfered with the pdanet connection..if I killthe process.eclipse just restarts adb. So I'm having trouble getting the packages

Putting this out there for anyone who had the same problem that I had; When I would end-task ADB.exe, it would instantly restart.
The fix for me was that I had to first end-task "droidexplorer" which was a running task even when Droid Explorer was not running. After that, I could end adb.exe
Why are you using pdanet? CM7 has built in wireless tethering.. just doesn't make "sense".
Check the date on the OP . March of this year .
I have used pdanet successfully but I only need it every once in a while. Recently when I tried to start it i could not get adb.exe to stop. yes, i used the task manager.
has anything changed?
PDANET and ADB
I have used pdanet for years. worked fine on my eris, and was working on my rezound up until a month or so ago. now i have constant problem with adb.exe restarting.
tried killing it with task manager, then plugging phone in. pdanet connect for a second, but it looks like as soon as adb kicks on i no longer have internet access, though i am still connected. shows no kb action from the phone.
anyone with any thoughts? need help.
stuck on updating pdaNet updating on your phone
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has a fix for this. I tried to install pdanet on my computer but it was giving me an error when i connected my phone. I then uninstalled the current version of pdanet and used an older version. That also did not work. So I am back at square one trying to install the current version again but now I am stuck at the installation screen that says "updating pda on your phone". What can I do now?
Thanks
This forum is really old. When I teathered with this device I used https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.googlecode.android.wifi.tether Its easier to use than pdanet. Unless you're not rooted.

If you are using a Nokia or an HTC phone like my self then it's because certain files have been blocked, white listed I think is what they call it. So basically with those files being blocked it renders WPDM useless.

[ADB/FB/APX Driver] Universal Naked Driver 0.72

Universal Naked Driver 0.72

32 & 64 Bit Windows 8 / 7 / Vista / XP - Attached to this post!

I am happy to release my Universal Naked Driver. This is to allow ADB, Fastboot & APX interfaces to work without installing any package much less multiples packages for users with multiple devices. Yes you can just install them and uninstall right away but why bother?
I was annoyed that I couldnt use my Transformer Prime and Galaxy Nexus without having versions and packages trip over each other. My previous post for the Sensation & Galaxy Nexus was helpful so I thought I would bring to XDA the newest Android driver available from source (which they call 4.0) and make it start talking.
Warning: Uninstall any previous driver package's you may have installed and also manually remove drivers by attaching your phone and going to Windows device manager and right click the entry for your phone and select "Uninstall" on the next prompt make sure to select "Delete the driver software for this device" then hit OK and reboot before installing these drivers
Code:
Google Nexus Devices ADB & Fastboot
Samsung Devices ADB & Fastboot
Asus Devices ADB, Fastboot & APX
HTC Devices ADB & Fastboot
Code:
[B]Windows 8 Instructions[/B]
How to Disable Driver Signature Enforcement in Windows 8:
From the Metro Start Screen, open Settings (move your mouse to the bottom-right-corner of the screen and wait for the pop-out bar to appear, then click the Gear icon).
Click ‘More PC Settings’.
Click ‘General’.
Scroll down, and click ‘Restart now’ under ‘Advanced startup’.
Wait a bit.
Click ‘Troubleshoot’.
Click ‘Advanced Options’
Click ‘Windows Startup Settings’
Click Restart.
Enjoy!
Since ICS is on the way you will get you bootloader upgraded most likely. Then the unlock APK should follow if Asus holds up there end.
This will allows for comminucation with your tablet and phones (execpt moto for now)
Hope Asus hits you up soon with the unlock.
Cheers!
DDMS ok on my evo 3D with your driver, will test my transformer later
Nice work, was waiting for this
Although, could you tell me how did you get into fastboot mode on device? Did you use ICS, or any special bootloader, maybe a modified one?

On my transformer prime I think the fastboot option only was available after the bootloader came unlocked but I could be wrong. I just do not remember seeing it before.
But after the unlock it I rebooted to the bootloader and then there was three options 1) BootToOS 2) Fastboot 3) Wipedata.
Once you select fastboot it says enabling fastboot protocols. Hope this helps but I do have a prime so it may be different.

Hmm, then please remove the Fastboot options from the original Transformer's log, as we have no access to it yet ;D Maybe with a modified u-boot, but that needs some time.

ya... adb not recognised means you don't have the android sdk installed. Also this is the tf101 not the prime. To install drivers hit start and type in drivers. find the one that says unknown or android 1.0 or apx or something right click and hit manually install driver

You also get that message if you have the SDK installed but not in your path and you are trying to run the command outside of the Android\android-sdk\platform-tools\ directory where the adb command resides. I have posted a guide for installing the SDK and then installing these drivers in the Roach's Clockwork Mod Recovery thread. I was trying to help solitude65 who installed a Recovery that only reads internal apparently after he wiped the internal sdcard or didn't realize he needed a ROM on the internal sdcard. Not sure how much of it will apply to the Prime as I have a TF101 and used it to confirm the steps I posted over there.

Thank you SO much! I was pulling my hair out, trying to find drivers for my TF101 in recovery mode, and I couldn't.. But these helped me immediately, and did the job!
Thank you!
I am on Windows 8 and couldn't get this installed with an error about missing the hash for the file. It of course is missing, since this isn't a signed driver.
I followed the instructions at http://dhakshinamoorthy.wordpress.com/2012/05/14/installing-an-unsigned-driver-in-windows-8-x64/ and was able to install the driver. If you're using Windows 8, you can do the same to install these unsigned drivers (or any other unsigned drivers for that matter).

[SOLVED] Rooting using Debugfs does not work

I tried searching everywhere and was not able to find a solution.
When I run it, the following texts appear and then hangs indefinitely.
Waiting for device to be detected...
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
From what I've found after searching, people have solved it by reinstalling driver, but it does not work for me.
I set both the security setting and USB debug setting, and driver is correctly installed.
I also tried following this video tutorial (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1798586), but that is pretty much what I did in the first place and that Debugfs hangs at the same spot.
I am new to an Android device. I own an iPhone which I jailbroke, but I am moving away from Apple. All I am trying to do right now is trying to change the dock keyboard layout, which apparently requires rooting.
Any help would be appreciated.
The text is fine, but it should go from there smoothly. Do you have ASUS sync installed and running? If so, kill it and kill it with a heavy stab.
Does your PC recognise the Infinity when you plug in the USB cable?

ASUS sync is not installed on my computer and it's disabled on the tablet. My computer recognizes it when it's connected.
Sounds like a classic "it should work" situation.
Try it on a different PC perhaps. You may have some third-party software installed that's interacting with the adb. Hard to tell without looking into it really. When you try to use custom commands in adb, not the .bat file, does anything work? What does waiting for device report?
^^^ this
I know this from experience, that not all Windows PC's are created equal. I had an issue rooting my tablet on 2 Windows XP machines and one Windows 7. The final Windows 7 machine I tried magically worked. All had admin access and no restrictions.

I tried searching everywhere and was not able to find a solution.
When I run it, the following texts appear and then hangs indefinitely.
Waiting for device to be detected...
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *

If you have adb setup properly you should be able to type "adb devices" from a command prompt. If all is well you will see your tablets serial number listed. If adb isn't setup properly, well you won't see anything.

Thanks for all the help. I don't really have another computer I can use right now.

When I type "adb devices", it says
"List of devices attached" and two blank lines. I guess adb does not see my device. Am I doing something wrong?
I am having the *exact* same issue. I'm not sure what the deal is - I recently used ADB to root my SGS3 so it definitely boggles my mind as to why it's not working on my tablet.
Just wanted you to know you weren't the only one. I'm going to try reinstalling ADB drivers later tonight to see if maybe something is wrong on that front...

Okay, let me explain how I got this to work.
First of all, the xda post you referenced has a link to a bad set of drivers. (Don't worry, it got me too at first, shame on that XDA poster for stealing credit in the first place...)
So, go here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1706588) and download the ASUS Android Drivers USB.zip as well as as the rootdebugfs that is there.
Next, open your device manager - the reason I keyed into this is because there was a driver that said "ASUS Android Composite ADB Interface" that did not install properly. Unzip the ASUS Android Drivers and then right click on "ASUS Android Composite ADB Interface" and update the drivers, manually point to the folder that contains all of the ASUS Android Drivers and click ok, it should update your drivers CORRECTLY (You'll get a successfully updated drivers window). After that try using the rootdebugfs bat again, worked like a charm for me after that!
If you're still having issues, please let me know, and post a screenshot of your device manager if you don't mind, it could be the key to your issues as well.
Sorry for the long post, hope I made sense

Thank you, that worked!
In the process of trying to get it to work, I definitely saw "ASUS Android Composite ADB Interface" a few times in device manager. After reading your post, I could not get it to show. I tried uninstalling the driver, searching for new hardware, etc. to no avail. However, switching the USB connection type from MTP to PTP while the device manager was running (I'm not sure why it had to be running) made it show up. Then I used the correct driver files to install the driver and the root worked. That guy who put up the video tutorial apparently put wrong drivers.
mtp to ptp

switching from mtp to ptp fixed it for me. it caused the device manager see an new device, which then had a yellow triangle. i just right clicked on it and hit refresh, and it installed the driver. g2g after that.
I had same problem but its solved now n its just drivers problem
just google "phones_brand_name usb drivers"
download and install them
n you are done

hi guys i would like to root my phone but my lgp500 cant detect my computer i did a lot of search.but nothings work..
cant you help me?
btw..my phone was charging only and no popups so what should i do..?
thanks
The thing is that your computer must detect your phone, there are several mods to root your O1, go to FAQ or to android development repository, these are sticky threads and choose one method, but first read carefully and after try it. There it is explained in detail how to do it, all methods are safe and used by all people, so you do not need to care about it that it will brick your phone, just follow instructions exactly

If you have a driver still having problems use another port to plug in the cable.Remove from that and check on the other side of computer. If still does not run then have LG United Mobile Driver.
Mine is detected trough recovery mounting USB, but I pointed you to read FAQ, there it explains how to root without connecting to PC, use phone browser to download app for rooting, also install android SDK and LG USB driver, when you connect phone to PC it won't pop up any window until you tap on phone USB mass storage, also enable in settings, apps, development, android debugging, allow mock locations, go to device manager on PC and disable LG modem

Hi, by the way you are using LG P500 no?
Then did you try plugging into the other ports as well, like i have 3-4 ports.Even you have so first try that.
Do you have LG support tool? If you don't then go to this (http://www.lg.com/uk/support-mobile/lg-LGP500) website and follow simple steps. In the 'download' section you will find 'update software & drivers in red'. Click that and follow the steps, very easy.( install for windows )
Still have problem then restart the computer and see
there are many ways to put an app like gingerbreake to sd card, even trough dropbox, bluetooth, wifi etc
but with you is to hard to make you understand to read sticky threads, maybe rooting an doing other things to your phone is better to... not to do it, first read, understand and after try it
read here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2149636 FAQ is ment to be read not to skip, here it explains how to, and what app with link to download, if you search playstore you will find XDA app, install it, log in, browse forum, download gingerbreack and run it from sd card
---------- Post added at 05:43 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:36 PM ----------
first try gingerbreacke, if doesn't work, if you had readed all STICKY THREADS, there is explained that you need to enable ADB on your phone(search what is it), disable LG modem in pc device manager and use one app like superoneclick that you find in rooting threads
hello..i tried different cord and port. still charging only..
about reading faq. ofcourse i read that already and i dont create a thread if found a solution..thats why i created a thread.
yes i enable usb debugging even mass storage..but nothing happen.
about gingerbreak it seems not work in 2.3.3 if any please give me.
thanks again
"Run "regedit"and select the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/MountedDevices" folder. See all the "Dos Devices" listed? You'll have one entry for each physically mounted drive (HDD or Disc) plus you'll have one show up for each USB drive you attempt to insert. Double click each device listed and seeifyou seetextsaying something like"U.S.B.S.T.O.R...". Once you find that device, right click it and select "Rename". Now change the drive letter to something unused... like Q: or something. Close regedit, disconnect the USB device and reconnect
This should fix ur problem:thumbup:

@kitu..i notice yea its seems its doesnt work..1 more sometimes when i check adb or mass storage it is automatically uncheck..so maybe a hardware problem?
it is not hardware, it is abouth something in phone drivers, download from phone browser root .apk and run it, after root you will have to install recovry, and boot into it, mount usb and your pc will detect your phone, works 100%, copy to sd card any custom rom that you will like and after that you can do anything you want(nearly anything)
