Hey guys,
Where i work i can get crystal clear service outside but when i go inside i cannont make or receive phone calls. I have 80 - 100% bars inside everywhere and can send texts, use the internet whatever but cannont make voice calls. I'm using cyanogen mod 7 with the dark x kernel. when i'm outside the bars show white and inside when i can only text or use the internet they are teal blue. any solutions or answers to what the heck is going on??
thanks!

Are you saying that EVERYWHERE you go that is in-doors the phone won't work? Or is this just in some specific places?
Odd. The changing to teal is actually good because that means you're synced to your Google account.
If you make a call outside and go inside do you lose the call?

That is a good one. It could be some sort of Wireless repeater or some other form of electronic interference. What kind of building do you work in - is it a tower or a warehouse, something like that?
You might want to ask your company to add a 1900 MHz repeater (or whatever T-Mobile uses) to your building.
http://www.repeaterstore.com/support/buyer guide/networks/t-mobile-repeater.html
In your "Network & Wireless" settings..make sure it is set to "GSM & CDMCA" auto. Or..if it is set to that..I used to have to set mine to "GSM only"...I would dial a number and press call, it would end instantly..so just play with those settings & see if it helps..

Well sounds to me your radio needs to be redone or you need to upgrade it look at the android development forum for the radio list or possibly a new rom out of expierence I try all Rome and some just don't work to well signal wise take care that's all I had to say

Does anyone else see their 4G connection go to idle after a while ?
If I turn on 4G, after not very long at all, my icon goes to one with 3 dots, and when I check my 4G network settings, it says 4G Networks --> Sprint --> Idle.
I have no connection whatsoever to the internet, and therefore have no push gmail/fb/twitter etc.
This does not happen on 3G/Wifi.
this can't be normal right ?
That is normal. Idle for 4g is the same as your send and receive arrow animation on 3g not doing anything. It is connected but there is nothing to send or receive, so it is "idle". I've stay connected to irc for hours on end with 4g and it "idled" constantly.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
Hmm. I'm not sure I agree.
When my connection is on idle, I get no email or anything.
If I go to wifi or 3G, it instantly pushes through emails.
I tested this by sending myself an email when it was idle. It didnt come through. Turn off 4G, and go to 3G, and it goes through.
This may actually not work correctly and a request from gmail push system does not wake the 4G WiMax connection properly. It works ok when the phone is requesting internet but not the other way around. I think they'll need to fix that eventually with a radio update.
Call and report. That's the only way they'll do it.

Was on KushDeck. Looks like I'm getting the same thing on CM7 as well.
Sent an email from my work email to my Gmail account. My Chrome browser got it almost immediately, and my phone is sitting on idle with nothing.
UPDATE.
6 minutes and counting. Nothing on my phone. Still on idle.
Is it something to do with my settings perhaps ? It seems to be fine on 3G ?
OK, I'm getting somewhere.
And I can sort of see where the issue is, I think.
When I'm on 3G, my phone signal is green, and my 3G bars are aklso green (connected to Google)
Push works when I'm like this.
When I'm on 4G, my phone signal is white (not connected to Google) therefore there is no push signal..
I'm tested this thoroughly this morning and I'm convinced this is the case.
This happens on all my ROMS (CM7/Kushdeck and Soju)
I'm going to call SPrint.

Sprint are clueless here, and keep telling me New York doesn't have strong signal, and that's why it goes idle.
I don't know if this is an ICS bug or a Samsung bug or a Verizon limitation? When making a phone call it is very easy to add another phone call and merge both calls into a conference call. But if one of the calls drops off, there is no way to add them again. There is also no way to hang up with only one of the people on the conference call, you have to end the whole thing.
This probably is on a stock Galaxy S3 on Verizon with the default dialer. I tried a different dialer but that function seems to be outside the dialer.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

I think this is a limitation of CDMA. GSM allows up to 6 simultaneous calls in a conference, and can individually disconnect calls too. Though I think at least T-mobile (maybe AT&T too) changed it to only allow a max of 2 calls. Eventually we'll have calling over LTE and that would I imagine provide better conference call services than GSM or CDMA.

So I got my nexus 5 on Friday and its perfect none of the mentioned defects was having some small issues with the notification light but that's all. However I noticed once a day since getting it I go to use my phone and it says emergency only / Rogers and I won't be able to make calls or receive calls. Anyone else experiencing this problem ?

I'm on Bell and for some reason sometimes I'd have no signal out of no where then it'll jump back to full bars the next second... Really annoying unless this is a normal thing for the Nexus 5

I'm on Rogers and I get this too. I usually fix it by going into network mode and change it to 3G and back to LTE immediately.
I still get incoming calls even though I can't dial out until I do the above change.
Its network problem not the nexus 5

I have the similar problem i'm on rogers and if the signal gets weak it will show signal strength in the home screen, i can surf the internet(data), but will not send text messages or make calls, if I try to make a call it say "cellular network not available", if i turn air plane mode on then off it reconnects right away. this has never happened with my GE Galaxy S4

I have the exact same issue guys, I hope that it has nothing to do with our nexus 5's.
im getting this error too. darn! its not normal for a phone to be like that. never happened to my previous one.
there must be something wrong with the phone.
im on Fido.
but its only happening to canadian network? weird.
maybe they're torturing people who didnt buy from them? lol
It looks like I have a similar issue.
My connection sometimes gets lost. Some sort of hiccup when connected to mobile network.
No issues found on WIFI
I'm on a hspa network in Canada and wanted to report that I get worse reception with the N5 than I did with my Galaxy S2. I hope it is easy fixable with a new modem flash or other update.
Just wanted to contribute in case there is anyone working on this and wanted some more info.
I had to change my data plan because, according to T-Mobile (US) it was not compatible with the phone. I could get emails and SMS text messages but could not get Internet data services (kept being prompted to log onto the network and presented with the T-Mobile logon screen). Lost my unlimited data, which I was grandfathered into (but found out that they were throttling me at 5 GB which I don't usually hit). I knew they would eventually make me change my plan anyway and was able to get a new 4.5 GB plan at the same price. Since T-Mobile will be offering this phone very soon (tomorrow? they're taking pre-orders now), I guess a lot of long-time customers will be pushed off their unlimited data plan.
I have the same problem!! It's really annoying - mine gets dropped every 2-5 mins! Is there a way to fix it? Is it the N5 or Rogers network?

If you are constantly getting poor signal it might be the handset. If you have good signal, and can use data, but have "Emergency calls only" instead of a carrier name, it's probably a carrier issue.
I am on Fido and have randomly had the same problem. There's another thread somewhere, and most if not all people reporting the problem are Rogers/Fido customers.

good point though... i don't see anyone from other canadian carriers complaining.
I also have this problem. I am on Fido in BC. Sometimes it will completely cut off the network signal from full bars to no service, similar to no sim card installed. It goes back to normal in about 5-6 seconds by itself but its definitely annoying.

It is a software issue. I switched to a different ROM and kernel.
Cataclysm ROM and bricked Kernel.
So far, the connection is solid with this combo.
I literally can't get any calls while connected to LTE. They all go to voicemail. I have been trying to figure this out for days. As soon as I turn off LTE I get calls on 3g with no problems. It also appears that when I'm on LTE if I make a call it had to drop to 3g before the call connects. Data works just fine. I have called sprint but they were less than helpful, updated prl and profile, and tried it in multiple different towns. Anyone have an idea of what to try next?

Whoops accidental thanks lol. If u check the other threads u will know that the way the new tri band phone's work, when on LTE all u get is data, on 3g u get voice and data, so while Ur connected to lte the only way to make or receive calls is for your phone to switch to 3g. This process should be automatic unless u manually changed something to force the phone one lte only.

That is so false because when I'm on LTE at my local mall, I can send and receive texts just fine.... the OP must've messed with some sort of setting is my guess..?
I have not messed with any settings. This has been happening from day 1. It took me about an hour after I got home from the Sprint store to notice that all calls were going directly to voicemail when I'm on 4G. As soon as I turn off 4G I get all my calls with no problem. I have tried updating prl and profile as I said before, but I don't appreciate people assuming I changed some setting when I'm telling you I didn't change anything. When I'm on 4G there is a spark icon that is constantly showing and the signal bar is always showing 1 bar. I don't know if that's part of the problem or not. If anyone has a serious suggestion to help instead of just assuming I caused this please let me know. Thanks.

If I read correctly on the s4gru website then the reason ur having this issue is because the tower is missing the 3g upgrade that handles this handoff which is called Circuit Switched Fallback*or enhanced Circuit Switched Fallback. So what your saying is that everything that we know about tri band phones is false? The tri band phones only have 1 antenna so it is impossible to use voice when connected to lte period. When u make a call Sprint kicks you off lte in order to use voice and when the call ends Sprint reconnects you to lte.
eCSFB Gap Issue – What you Need to know:
Smart devices require eCSFB to “fall back” to 3G to accept a voice call if the user is connected to the LTE network.

i've been having the same problem! I live on the outskirts of the spark network so i only get the regular lte at home. and i dont believe the towers have been upgraded here yet because i wont recieve calls or texts unless i call out on my phone which forces lte off for 3g etc. but if i drive 15 min. north where the "spark" network is deployed then i'll recieve my calls and texts appropriately because the towers are upgraded there.
so sadly i keep my phone on wifi and cdma mode while at home then whenever i go out i have to switch it to lte/cdma and restart the phone so i can utilize lte while im in a "spark" area.
its tedious and sometimes i forget to switch back when i get home.. its such a pain. Leave it to sprint to deploy phones before their network is even ready for them.

Well the places without the 3g upgrades is not that big so they probably just decided to jump on to tri band even though development wasn't complete. It's like saying they should of waited not not sold any LTE devices until they finished deploying LTE, which means they would of still had old devices being sold.

well i understand that but at least when they first started selling the lte devices; the devices would still received calls and texts. because even though the lte may not have been upgraded/deployed or whatever yet. the cell phones themselves were compatible with the old network as is. but with these spark devices, they are deploying phones that may or may not work (the main point of a phone is being able to send/receive calls or texts etc) depending on where you are because half of the towers aren't upgraded for csfb
"Circuit Switched Fallback is a great solution to the issue of Sprint Triband LTE smartphones. But the problem here is that the Sprint network is being upgraded in Network Vision, and not all Sprint parts of the Sprint network can currently support CSFB. And it affects all Sprint Triband LTE phones, not just the Nexus 5 and LG G2." quote from http://s4gru.com/index.php?/blog%2...-technology/
and the problem here is the phone is supposed to be able to detect that the lte towers in my area dont have csfb and therefore switch back to cdma. But it doesnt, so it stays connected to lte and i never receive any calls or texts. but when i drive north to a spark network area the csfb works appropriately. So this leads me to believe its a network issue and not that my phone is a lemon.
idk maybe im just blowing hot air here but its frustrating that the most important part of my phone does not work properly for whatever reason in my hometown where i spend most of my time.

I know it's the reason I got rid of LG g2 but the only thing to do right now is put the phone in cdma only and keep checking if they upgrade towers yet

Because I thought he said that you can't receive calls or make calls if you are on 4G LTE. Which you can, but once you dial out, or accept the call, you have no data.
Simple miscommunication!!

According to S4GRU what you are saying is wrong. In order for your phone to ring it kicks you off LTE. Circuit Switched Fallback. When you are connected to LTE your phone receives 0 CDMA signals (this includes voice). When sprint is trying to send voice to your phone, if the CDMA cannot be routed to your phone, the LTE network is checked for your phone, if found the LTE network drops you so the CDMA signal can get to your phone.
Give it a try. Make sure you are connected to LTE and data is in use. Have someone call your phone. Watch your LTE indicator change to grayed out, and switch to CDMA before your phone starts ringing.

No ISH, you still receive the call though, that's what I am trying to say..................
This whole thing is extremely depressing, just got this phone today and it's one of the first things I relized..sure I can put it on 3g and sit tight like that but come on the whole point in getting the newest flagship is how it's better than everything else, and sprint can't make it work right (yet). I noticed with my area that as long as the data is not actively loading a page or downloading it will switch to 3g and calls will come in but if it's load strait to voicemail..hope they get it all fixed the way it's supposed to be soon enough.
Well the problem of receiving a call and losing the 4g signal and therefore the Internet has a solution? Or is it a problem that characterizes the oneplus :confuso:
??? if you mean that when you receive a call 4G turns to 3G thats just how it works, as voice has a different signal frequency to 4G. Some sim companies will support some phones to have VoLTE or Voice over LTE basically allowing you to keep your 4G signal while calling and have a higher definition and quality of call. But ye its not an issue normally thats just how it works.

No. I mean that when entering a call, the data is cut off as if it were turned off. And when the call ends, the data signal comes back, this has never happened to me only with the oneplus. And it's annoying to be downloading or playing and losing because of this problem

You didn't understand his question.
Whenever he's on a call, the data gets deactivated, not going from 4G to 3G, not even down to H... He can't use the internet at all, and that's his problem.

Ok well I don't know then if it comes back after the call ends it 100% has something to do with the SIM carrier or the network type.

He wasn't explaining it properly and it clearly doesn't affect anything at all. If it loses 4g during call and comes back after call then it's probably fine that's why i was confident it probably had something to do with the way his network is configured other than that in still confident it's normal

As he mentioned very clearly in his 2nd post (pretty clear in first)... When he makes a phone call, during that call he cannot access internet (aka mobile data). Not once did he say anything about switch from 4G to 3G (like you randomly for some reason said was happening, even though it wasn't).
What isn't clear is what you are trying to say without punctuation !

Well maybe, just mabe the way his mobile data is configured to be 4g only. Just thinking...
Normally 4g shuts off on voice calls if not on VoLTE.

The change from 4g to 3g is normal when I make the call. When I receive the call this does not happen, it is as if the mobile data (Internet access) was deactivated. When playing online, I receive a call immediately, I lose my Internet connection due to the call, it happens on the Oneplus 5 and 6.

It happens in any type of network. When receiving a call immediately the mobile data is disabled
Yes, if you do not have VoLTE enabled for whatever reason (carrier might doesn't support it) you will lose mobile data once the connection downgrades to 3g for the call. This is completely normal. It does come back after the call is finished, as it is the case in your scenario as well. There is nothing you can do about it as far as I know, except getting VoLTE to work.
Seems normal to me. Classic 3G networking only uses one antenna. So when a call is placed, Data is cut off.
With H+ (3G+), which uses two combined antennas, you can have calls and Data at the same time, but it won't always work. It's always been like that for me on all my phones !
All in all, it's related to your network, that's just how it works. Only VoLTE would really solve that.
Go into the settings of your phone app, go to Sim and Network and make sure you have 2G/3G/4G automatic selected. If not select it and reboot then call mom
Firstly, make sure your provider supports volte. Next, make sure your apns are correct on your sim to support this. Then try this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...te-forcefully-activated-t3797538/post76670517
For those of you in the USA that may have issues using text or voice over WiFi but NOT over volte, the above may help you as well. I know it helped me.
