As more developers are now releasing Sense 3.5 roms I thought it best to share some issues I had with DSPManager on these roms and what I did to get it working properly.
1. If DSPManager gets quiet when ticking the checkbox for "bass boost" or get really loud and tingy when selecting "virtual room" this is an indication that the application library or "lib" isn't functioning properly to produce the correct output.
2. If DSPManager does not seem to affect audio in any way when selecting it's various enhancements this, obviously, is also a sign of the app not functioning properly.
I'm an audio enthusiast so DSPManager working on my rom was a must. My attempts to "fix" DSPManager were great and over a long period of time. Some devs out there have supposed "fixes" for it and some devs don't really care about the app because they don't use it. My method will limit your ability to use enhancements from with HTC music player so if you're not willing to lose that ability in exchange for DSPManager working instead do not try this method. The various libraries "libs" in the system/lib/soundfx folder seem to conflict with DSPManager so what you need to do is delete each one of these.
The libs will be some or all of the following:
libbeats.so
libbundlewrapper.so
libreverbwrapper.so
libsrsfx.so
libvisualizer.so
The DSPManager lib that you DO NEED TO KEEP there is libcyanogen-dsp.so
You need to use root explorer or any other file explorer capable of root access to browse to system/lib/sounfx. Once you've deleted the conflicting libs you need to reboot the phone. Once the phone restarts you need to adjust the audio settings in DSPManager after you've begun playing music to notice the change. Attempting to select enhancements from within HTC music player from this point on will either give a message of "Enhancements not available" or a Force close dialog although the music will not stop playing you will simply be returned to your home screen. At this point you can now use DSPManager for each output currently in use whether it be phone speaker, headphone or bluetooth. Remember some roms will have a higher bass output just by themselves without using DSPManager so be sure if the bass seems super loud on low settings after installing to set your equalizer lower than normal for bass so as not to damage any equipment you may have attached to it.
For those of you running a sense 3.5 rom without the DSPManager lib "libcyanogen-dsp.so" I will attach it in this thread and you can follow the steps outlined. You need to unzip the .SO file from the .ZIP and place into system/lib/soundfx and set permissions to rw-r--r--
Cool! I rather have dsp manager than beats anyway. Thanks

I guess you never checked my rom
you can use all htc music equalizer options and on top of that sound output from equalizer can be deeper adjusted with dsp.
Im picky about sounds."Sound forge" came out 18 days ago

Aye, DSP manager and HD video are the reason I use your ROM as my daily ...and yeah, DSP Manager sh*ts all over Beats for me (though I'm using beats earphone), a must have tweak for my Evo.
Thanks for this thread. Bookmarked in case I flash a different 3.5 rom
ok ok
the fix is to move dsp lib from soundfx folder to lib folder.
thats it.Simple as 1,2,3
Just do not enable beats effect. It doesnt work properly anyway
That's seems legit of course I never would've thought to try to move the lib. I did notice your rom had a fix for it. At one point I had HTC equalizer and DSP working but thats kind of overload to me. Maybe I'll try it out though.
nice work..

I tested your suggestion to no avail. Your method may work in your rom but not necessarily in others.

Hello xlxcrossing! I've just come across your thread and I must say I find it very interesting. I first used DSP Manager in Cyanogenmod 7.1 and as it turns out, Bass Boost would get quiet and Virtual Room would get really loud (and awesome, according to my taste), like you point in Case 1.
I'm currently using Cyanogenmod 7.2 RC1 and it is a completely different experience. I think DSP is working "right", according to what you say in the OP. However, I think I liked it better when the Virtual Room setting would completely change the sound. Do you know what libs I should change in order to achieve the effect you point out in Case 1?
Thanks in advance!

If you want the virtual room setting to sound hollow and tingy then don't change any libs just leave things as they are. Install whatever rom you want and DSPManager and you're good to go. If you are using headphones as appose to a bluetooth car stereo as I do then you will probably not notice the sound as being distorted as much. Hope that answered your question.
Fantastic, I only wish I saw this thread sooner. I pretty much stick with MikG because the dsp works so well on it. This opens up my options for a daily driver.

Thanks for your reply, I really appreciate it.
I don't really wish to change ROMs right now... I'm very happy with Cyanogenmod 7.2. Also, I made a mistake explaining myself. I was using a Sense 3.5 ROM (not CM7.1) when I came across your Case 1. Do you know which libs I should change in CM7.2 in order to make it sound like the time I had Sense 3.5 installed? I've tried changing the libs myself, but so far CM7.2 won't boot whenever I put the Sense 3.5 libs in /system/lib. Hope you can clear this mess up for me because I'm very confused .
Best regards.
EDIT: Just to be clear, I'm not changing the entire /system/lib folder. I'm just changing:
libaudio.so
libaudioeffect_jni.so
libaudioflinger.so
libaudiopolicy.so

The process I outlined is for Sense 3.5 roms only...although it may work in other Sense roms as well but I have not tested. Cyanogen is an AOSP rom meaning stock android only. Those libs you listed in your edit are not present in the file system folder I specified and wouldn't be tampered with for this particular process. You should be able to find a thread on CM w/DSP.
Basic with a Twist SGS4G KJ6 Kernel
BML, don't flash if you have partitions converted to MTD.
Use at your own risk, I take no responsibility for anything that may happen to your phone because of this kernel.
This kernel is for those who don't want to be on the very cutting edge (CM7) but rather want stability without sacrificing too many recent features. It is based mostly on Bryan's 0.0.2d commit that supposedly never had problems with silent reboots. I made some changes to the config to bring it even more to the standard Samsung VibrantPlus in terms of hardware settings, but at the same time to optimize it for speed. I will add only tried and true features to this kernel, the ones that other kernel developers have used successfully.
Special thanks to bhundven (Bryan), FBis251, TeamAcid.
Features
initramfs from TeamAcid, including CWM5, SuperSU, forced ext4, etc.
Usual CIFS, TUN. I didn't include FUSE, if anybody needs it let me know.
BLN. Use BLN Control app from market to activate.
Voodoo Sound so paid app is not needed. Voodoo Sound app from market is required. Once installed, enable Smart Amplifier, it's the best thing you can do to improve music listening experience with our phone.
jhash3 for faster hash calculations. Used widely across the kernel, especially in networking.
OC/UV support with extended frequency table. Added 600Mhz, 900Mhz, 1.1Ghz, 1.2 Ghz, 1.3 Ghz, 1.4 Ghz. Use SetCPU or Xan's Voltage Control to enable and control frequency and voltages. Tegrak can be used only with no-OC/UV version.
ondemandX and smartassV2 governors. One of these should probably be preferred over stock ondemand. Change with SetCPU or similar.
TinyRCU. More lightweight version, it fits better our single CPU system.
Swap support, although I don't recommend using it.
SIO and BFQ I/O schedulers in addition to noop, deadline, and cfq that we already have.
Install
Flash with CWM or SGS Kernel Flasher. ODIN version is available only for OC/UV kernel.
Download
CWM:
v1.1.3
v1.1.3 (no OC/UV)
v1.1.2
v1.1.2 (no OC/UV)
ODIN:
v1.1.3
v1.1.2
Notes
* OC/UV version is very conservatively undervolted to -25mV. The preset voltages are still higher than on regular I9000, which has the same CPU. I'm running additional -50mV (total -75mV) for all frequencies without issues, but you may have them, every CPU is different!
* It is recommended to create a CWM recovery file before modifying voltages. This option is available in both SetCPU and VoltageControl.
* OC-ing to 1.4 Ghz is not recommended, especially for extended periods of time.
* Voodoo ext4 conversion, or "lagfix", is enabled and forced by default. There is not way and no need to go back to RFS.

Well, I didn't upload anything yet. If you tell me how to control the frigging repository from Windows I'll do it right away
But seriously I want to make absolutely sure that this kernel doesn't have this nuisance of silent reboots. Because it they still present there is no need to have this kernel.
No matter what happens, if Vooodoo sound works without problems, I'll give you the code if you want it.

I'm about to post something to my cm7 thread, so heads up.
But stock kj6 kernel (if you download it from opensource.samsung.com and apply a few of my changes to fix tfsr and add initramfs) still has the same reboot issue.
I'm gonna start comparing some of the code from the froyo kernel to see wtf is going on. I fixed a problem with rild and random reboots are back.
I'm finding that the problem is related to suspend. The reboot happens when everything quiets down.

I'm operation on the assumption that 0.0.2d never had silent reboots. Nobody ever reported having them with this version. I have never ever experienced a reboot with it myself. That's why I took it as the base.
I haven't really looked what you did right after 0.0.2d. Seems like you switched to aries config instead from vibrantplus. Any particular reason? Anyway, I reverted it back and even slightly more back. Then you did some clean up and modified bunch of code. I don't care about cleaning somebody else's code like this. Unused functions and variables will be optimized out by the compiler anyway. To get rid of annoying warnings I just used -Wno-unused switch to gcc in the Makefile.
So - hard to tell what's happened between 0.0.2d and 0.1.0 (or 0.1.1?), but something must have happened. Too many people reported it to support this.
Great initiative Anton!

Just flashed. I'm fully charging up right now. I'll run it for a day to check on battery life and do some restores to make sure all that is good to go. Including voodoo is a nice touch. A already have the paid app because the headphone amp is something I can't live without but really nice for those that haven't used it to check it out. I have never had a reboot on 2d so hopefully this will maintain that tradition. Nice work.

Finally a kernel w/ Voodoo Sound! I've been using the paid app for awhile but the module doesn't load on boot sometimes plus I've always wondered if there might be a difference between the app loading the module vs. the module built in to the kernel. I've gotten really use to BLN though (hint-hint)... thank you!

Hey bravo users, I was just browsing through LifeHacker and I found an article about Pimp my ROM. Taken from the XDA post, "Pimp my Rom is an aroma-installer based script that will allow you to choose between a plethora of nice tweaks, mods, apps, themes and features to add to your current rom." Here's the xda post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1908269. I'd tell more you about it but I would do a poor job, so just visit the post.
It apparently works with the Defy roms, so it might work with bravo roms as well. I guess I could try it and let you all know if it works. If I do install it, I will edit this post with my results.
Edit: it installed fine, and the tweaks I added work great too! I should mention that I'm using skeevy420's cm7 kang. I recommend it.

Nope, the text was just fine. One caveat is that you had to use the volume buttons and power button for selecting everything, but that was no problem.
On another note, I ticked the tweak for faster wifi connecting, and it seems to be working. I also ticked the "faster app loads" tweak and I think it's working, but it's hard to tell since cm7 is already lightning fast. I think the "higher jpg image quality" tweak is working too.
I've been using my phone for about 7 hours today and I've noticed no problems so far. I'd like to know the results from running PmR on JB or ICS, just so we can be sure that it works 100% on Bravo. I might do that later on my PA and ICS nands. Happy tweaking!

I'm on Quarx's 9/12 cm10. These are the tweaks I selected:
-better battery consumption
-better jpg image quality
-better camera recording quality
-battery savings
-faster scrolling
-better touch responsiveness
-reduce dialing time
-misc 3g tweaks
-deeper sleep
-smoother online video streaming
-faster wifi connect/disconnect
Everything is pretty responsive, may be just placebo, but hey it works on JB :good:
I tried using it with skeevy420's miui pikachu port and my phone wouldn't boot. It's possible that I selected settings that conflicted with the miui aroma installation settings. I don't recommend using PmR on Miui.

For Miui, I think I forgot to 2nd boot miui properly before I used PmR and that may have had something to do with it. I will try it out tonight to see if rebooting immediately aftet installation will provide the solution.

I've been messing around with PmR for the past few days and its great, for the most part. Not everything is compatible, one of the options breaks wifi, and some of the default values it uses aren't the most optimized for the Bravo. Also found a bug with its dns tweak -- it forgot to put a # in the build.prop before its name.
I'm trying out the "high" settings for multitasking, and I think I need to go one step below on those options -- a bit of lag occurred that medium didn't have. Medium worked better with V6 as well. The GPU tweaks don't matter since our CM7 is already fully hw accelerated and the GPU frequencies can't be scaled (yet, kernel limitation). Also noticed some of the sqlite tweaks don't work as expected (tons of errors in the boot logs).
On a side note, I'd rather CM7 have the custom kernel instead of CM10.

No, I'm gonna try and figure it out today. I applied every PmR tweak that I didn't think would break the system; apparently one did :silly:.

The wifi issue is from the tweak Connect and Disconnect Faster; delete the line "ro.mot.eri.losalert.delay=1000" from the build.prop to fix it.

Goals
I like clean roms that are optimized, no theme, or themed extremely well that it looks stock, and lightweight because I don't use a lot of apps. I am building it so you do have options and can restore apps if you so choose. I like having latest updates and sometimes experimental builds. So If it doesn't work correctly, I'll try to fix it if it is something major or bothering me. Hopefully this rom will bring the life back into your G2x.
Input
Has anyone used the AGPS hack? Which settings do you find good? I am trying to test but I can never get a connection in Chicago.
Other Optimizations I should include?
What do you think about play music? Does the auto sync annoy you?
THAT would be great dont you think..???
That sounds pretty sweet man, keep us posted on progress
i believe it is a copyright issue to bake in Gapps.

A new android has larger battery, larger display, more CPU cores, more memory, more storage, etc. resulting in identical battery life as your old phone... Go figure!
