My friend had a g2x and he is running Ricardo's selfkang ics builds. But everything works for him except text messaging. He can send texts with no problem but he is not receiving the messages back.
His baseband is build from July and mine is from march. Maybe its a base and issue, and I want to know where can I get the old March 2011 base and and how do I downgrade his baseband

So far, the P999/G2X baseband is not flashable separately from the rest of the firmware and operating system and don't use the flashing utility for the P990/Optimus 2X to flash the Optimus 2X baseband because it will ruin the P999/G2X so that the phone won't be usable as a phone anymore.
Im having the same issue, still haven't found a way around it. I made a thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1577242
Tell your friend to try a different rom. The Cm9 build is only beta and not everything is working properly
If he wants to stay on ICS roms, have him try Hells or EB or AOK ics roms and see what results he gets

Read thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1577242 It is not a baseband issue, it appears to be an anomaly with certain phones, I have personally experienced it on 2 handsets of the 10 I have used.
Have you tried using the getril app in the play store. It may be an issue because his baseband and ril are not matching. I have no problems sending or receiving anything on ics with July baseband.

He seems to be ignoring the actual answers that it isn't the baseband, it's either the ROM or the phone

Please help calling issues after OTA V21y update from LG
I flashed everything back to Stock did OTA update everything works fine on Stock ROM, when I flash any non stock Rom when I try to make calls get a bad static clicking issue tried CM9 and stable CM7 and EB. Tried getril said versions did not match got them to match and still having issues. Anyone seen this before I am stuck on the stock ROM and cannot flash anything due to not being able to make calls.
I think it might have been the BaseBand update that broke it I am currently running M6600A-SCAUTNZ-2.0.9720T 1 [MAR 11 2012 10:00:00] MP: TRULGE_08.09.02R_MDM Please help want to be able to use custom ROMS again.

It's actually really easy to downgrade. I upgraded yesterday using mode XP and then realized I couldn't use CM7 Roms without in-call audio acting up. I just did the same procedure again but used the 'V21E_00.kdz' flash file. Its the update file that has the July 2011 baseband. It worked perfectly under Mode XP using the offline updater tool.
Give it a try. Hope this helps

lg g2x updated to 2 2.3.3 worked on 2.3.2 then updated ota then started having the call issue please help me
Go to g2x Dev section. Stickied thread on how to unbrick.
Flash stock recovery with nvflash.
Then using windows XP, plug your phone in, install the msxml file. Then run tthe kdz updater. Browse to the v21e kdz and launch the application.
Here's some tips. It would seem like it freezes, but just wait. Its actually running. Just don't touch the computer for a while.

I have this same static issue. I can send/receive texts and make/accept calls, the problem is though that calls is all static, I can't hear anything else. I have the same BB you do as well. Currently running JB 4.1.1 on CM9 (9.9.9-JB-p999). It would be REALLY nice to keep this rom, it performs so much better than the other ROMs I have tried :crying:
The Videotron branded V21D_00.01 original firmware from LG is available here:

While on XP I've used that .kdz file with the flasher/updater from KDZ_FW_UPD_EN.7z to flash my secondary G2x, you also need to have the APX driver installed from One-Click-G2x-recovery-flasher-06-16.rar. I've also reverted back to the original recovery before attempting the kdz flash. Once done with it, I had the Videotron branded android and the baseband with OCT 24 2011 date. I tried a simple mobile sim card with it. After adding an APN, the data seemed to work. I was able to receive a call from my other phone. Then, I've flashed the CM recovery (as it was back to stock) using nvflash and then from the CM recovery I've flashed Owain's ICS on it.
I also have a copy of the files that .kdz unpacked (though I'm not sure if its complete).
That's about it.
Oh, yeah, before I had JUL 15 2011 baseband after the GB upgrade.
Also take a look at this thread... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1180331
To use the KDZ_FW_UPD you need to disconnect the phone from usb, remove the battery, hold the Vol down button while plugging-in the USB cable. This will force the S/W Update screen on the phone, and the tool will work.
I also reflashed V21E_00.01.kdz with that KDZ_FW_UPD tool and the baseband went back to JUL 15 2011.
Awesome!

Just to simplify things, the thread I've pointe to has all the tools/drivers. But it is a bit murky about the flashing process.
As long as you are on the stock recovery, it should be possible to just remove the battery, unplug the usb, push and hold Vol down and plug back the usb. At that point the S/W Upgrade screen should show up and KDZ_FW_UPD tool should be able to pick up your phone and apply the .kdz

Before flashing do a backup with CWM. Then flash the Videotron KDZ file. After verifying if the SMS issue is fixed you can reflash CWM and then flash back the CWM backup to got back to T-Mobile Gingerbread. No reason to reflash a KDZ as this is the latest baseband available for the P999. I might do it to mine just to get the new baseband. I moved on to another phone due to band issues (needed 850 3G support for a carrier here in Thailand) but I have not gotten around to selling my G2X yet.
You saying to do a backup of any rom or flash back to 2.3.3 ota version? I assume any rom, which isn't an issue as I have about 10 on my PC lol...

Whatver your current rom is if you want to go back to your phone how it is. The sms problem is not in the rom so restoring the rom won't change anything if updating with the patched baseband fixes the issue. All you care about is getting the new baseband. Up to you if you want to restore current rom or flash something else.

It doesnt apply to any rom. It only applies to roms that has been built with the baseband. If you update your baseband and try to install an ICS/gingerbread rom thats not made on that baseband, you will get static sound when trying to make a call

To clear things up... you can only update the baseband via LG's update tool.
NO ROM you find here is able to include a baseband of any sorts and the March 2012 bb, as of now, will only give you clear calls while on the stock 2.3.4 ROM.

If you are asking whether its worth trying to upgrade or not. Its a balancing act. You lose ICS sweetness, rather everyother custom ROm beside kwes1020 rooted rom but you gain better GPS lock, longer battery and better signal with the update.

Just to clarify, you only have to be on a stock rom (GB 2.3.4) for bluetooth calling if you are on the march 2012 baseband. You can revert your baseband to july 2011 and bluetooth calling will be just fine. I use my bluetooth headset all the time and it has worked on every ICS or JB custom rom.
Better yet, don't experiment with moms phone.
