Hey guys, I'm still pretty new here at the XDA forums, so my apologies if this is in the wrong forum (This is where I saw it fitting )
Here's my situation.
I'm currently in the market for another smartphone, but don't know what I'm doing anymore (since after a while the phones all start to seen the same.)
Keep in mind it has to be a GSM device. I'm looking into Pre-Paid because honestly I don't want to deal with AT&T's outrageous $90+ a month and horrible data plans of only 1GB or 2GB
I'm a college student going into Petroleum Engineering, and deal with a lot of math etc. I want a phone that I can completely make use of.
With that being said, I've been looking into (for some reason) the Dell Venue Pro with WinMo OR the Galaxy Note..... I have big hands so this would make more sense. The Formula and Shape match with the s-pen sound and look amazing. Only problem is I'm stuck between the i717 and the N7000? I don't know what to choose from or if this is even my best bet.
Can someone clear things up or make other suggestions?
IMHO: just sum things out. list down all your requirements in a smartphone, that may help you decide.
you may also consider future upgrades (android OS etc..) from the maker.
good luck!
From my point of view I am really satisfied with Galaxy S2, so I can tell you, that with Galaxy Note you cannot do a mistake. Galaxy S2 has quite good development base here on xda.
So the Galaxy Note is a GS2 based device?
I also have another question. Let's say I buy the AT&T Version off of Ebay from someone who never used it, or did use it for a day. Would the Samsung manufacturer's warranty still be valid?
i would suggest the exhibit 2 4g. i used it for a couple months and its a pretty good phone for the price you pay. its pretty easy to root as well ;D
My opinion is to get the international version. It has FM. And also the video editor doesn't work too well on the AT&T. Besides, I wouldn't trust AT&T with my updates, that's a long wait. Plus I'd avoid the bloatware, samsung's apps + at&t apps = too much stuff you don't need.
I'd skip windows until mobile gets 8.
Galaxy S3......would not be bad
Galaxy Nexus, HTC ONE X, or Galaxy SIII these are all very good phones.
galaxy s3
Galaxy S3? I had ran across a few reviews and it was to my understanding that the S3 wasn't much of an improvement. It could have been a biased opinion though. What's new on the Galaxy S3?

I was really interested in the One X as well. It seems like I'd be waiting a while for a lot of development on it though. Since I was looking for something with 3G or 4G capabilities on TMO.
You can
You can choose between S3, One X. They are high-performance and 4.8 or 4.7" is big aswell, so you'll not have problems.

The galaxy s3 has a quad core processor, HD 720p screen, better graphics processor, more storage(32gb internal model with slot) newest android (4.0.4) Samsung extras ( s voice/ multitasking video player/ direct dial/ that feature that follows your eyes and keeps the screen awake/ newer Bluetooth / better DNLA / NFC ) so it's an upgrade of the nexus.

Yes. The quad core chip does not support LTE. Thus LTE version of the phone (Verizon? AT&T?) Will be dual core. Confirm Exynos chip before purchase. It'll be available in white and blue.

Why no one considers Sony Ericsson?
I like the phone (which is more "phone friendly" than GS3) and the Bravia is a great engine....Xperia S features also a 12 Mpx full HD camera, dual-core @ 1.5 Ghz...and a really nice design...
Not to talk about the cost, which is pretty inferior to S2 or 3...
Come on, it is a phone to consider...
(ps: I have a GS2...)

Honestly I've owned a few Sony Ericsson devices and they were amazing! I did consider a few, but I actually have no clue about these Sony Xperia devices (since my SE were all non-smartphones) Could you educate me a tad?
GSM? Easy to root/unlock etc? Will it work on TMO 4g? etc.
The i717 Galaxy Note is the AT&T version and will only work on the T-mobile 4g when you hack it in some way. The international version (N7000) will not get T-mobile 4g at all.
That being said the only major difference is that the i717 sports a dual core snapdragon s3, while the N7000 has a dual exynos cpu, which blows the snapdragon s3 out of the water.
If you're planning to be on T-mobile, I really would recommend the galaxy nexus as it is unlocked and will work with the 4g and has a huge development base. Keep in mind that the HTC One X will not work on T-mobile 4g as well. If you really want a Note, then get the AT&T version. Otherwise, you can wait for the Note to come to T-mobile, which will be sometime in July.

Sony Devices will work on 4g. All the new Sony 2012 Xperia phones come with fixed memory, non removable battery and no memory card slot. Those will most likely brick easier (exception is the Sola which has a slot)
If you want a Sony I recommend the Arc S. The phone is very stylish, I like the design better than Sony Xperia S,and seeing as the essentials are in the Arc S( and both are dual cores) id go with it.
Sony do hold out on batteries especially the 2012 phones,I'd get a generic one for the Arc S.
Bravia Engine is brilliant, but Sony phones have comparatively lesser RAM(512 opposed to 1GB) so it's not a multitasking superhero, but won't lag.
You could get a good deal for the Arc S seeing as it is not king of the hill anymore. It's not as plastic as the Sony Xperia S and the only difference in camera is megapixels, both are Exmor R. You won't be disappointed.

i have make a search for a new best phone for me i cant choice wich one is the best
i was thinking about SAMSUNG I9100 GALAXY S II vs SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE vs i phone 4 vs HTC Sensation vs Samsung Galaxy Nexus...which one you will suggest to me for the top use ?
My personal opinion I like the new Motorola Razr (Or Droid Razr in the US). 1GB RAM, Dual core 1.2cpu and seperate gpu. 16Gb internal with SD ext support. 8Mp Camera rather than 5.
The new Nexus is comparable but has 5mp camera and no external sd card support, which I just don't understand.
If you like the Galaxy, version 3 should be out 1st 1/4 of next year. That looks a beast.
you have to decide wither to go with Android or iOS.
if you want more apps, much much less customization go with iOS and buy iPhone 4/4s
------
if you want good amount of apps, customizable OS go with Android
then ask your self do I want a phone or a small tablet if you want a phone remove the note from your list
other phones in the market share the same specs: 1.2 dual core around 1GB ram
5-8 mb camera
I will go with HTC rezound (in US) or the Galaxy nexus or If you like the design of
Motorola Razr its good phone (my friend told me its camera is not that good)
my final personal choice will be the new Galaxy Nexus
You can't go wrong with Galaxy S II. It packs all the things we love in Android - big screen (but not too big), open bootloader, great power etc.
I just love the idea of "Pure Google" phones. I have a Nexus S that I love. I'd go for that if I were you, or even better, if you have the budget to afford it, for a Galaxy Nexus.
Pure Google phones = best support (quick system update deployment), no bloatware (I'm not a fan of TouchWiz, Sense and others).
Of course it is a bit irrelevant once you install CM on them, but there's something that makes me feel good to have the brand Google on the back of my phone.

and remember, tinkering with Apple stuff is a futile effort! unless you work for them. which i suppose is like a gang initiation in / out. basically apple-ites live on their own little planet.
I heard that the sound quality on the s2 is not as good as the first version.
i was thinking to buy the htc flyer but with the samsung note maybe i change my mind because i saw the specs for that device and i think is better to have 2 things in one devices and more more cheaper
In my opinion the Galaxy Nexus is the best you could get because you can be sure that Google will support this phone a long time and the hardware is really nice.
The second phone I would choose is the S2, brilliant screen and epic phone.
Hi, I had the Captivate, then upgraded to the SGSII. Now my wife has the Cappy. I just put a rom in the I777. Working great. I love the SGSII.
Just my 2 cents.
i decide that i wont buy an iPhone and i will stay with the awesome android OS.
but i want to learn more about the Samsung phones ...like how to root each of them and if i can root them.
what phone have the best screen from the others and the camera.
also about the best custom things like roms and hacks.
battery life and also the best and more important part what are the problems they have .
And if their is a compare video or site with all the samsung phone i am interesting
What about SG note? Weird that nobody recommends it

The HTC Sensation is very nice. I love mine. Even after buying the HTC Amaze I STILL use my Sensation. It feels very nice in the hand...and you can buy white battery covers which when combined with a new ROM, make you feel like you have a new phone.

its buttery smooth, fastest growing apps market, etc. the phone is also really nice, fast, good size, good weight, nice screen, not too bad of a camera (cant beat a real camera ofc, but still).
just my opinion.

my phone is still working , but getting slow since i have more then 60apps installed, and camera focus is broken.
my phone is rooted+custom 2.3ROM+OC, still slow...XXXXXX
im in BC, canada with roger, still have 1 year contract.
i like the look of GS II(i9100)
but rogers don't have it, only Bell GSII 4G look the same, and i'm not going to move to bell
3 device im interested
Motorola razr
Galaxy Nexus
GSII LTE(i'm not going to upgrade to LTE network...LTE seems less interested to me)
what i think about those 3 phones
razr have the best look(i think).
Galaxy Nexushave the best support for android(son of Google)
LTE.....only faster CPU, and expensive LTE
which one should i get....
give me some suggestions please
thank you very much
i'd go for the Galaxy Nexus seeing you're into custom roms
Galaxy Nexus should
The Samsung Galaxy S2 is fine, or the HTC HD2 (warning, it has windows but HUGE Android ROM Support here)
HTC sensation?
GS2 is better than Sensation, not to mention Gnexus..
GS2 weights less, performs much faster (my bro can barely play GTA3 on Sensation) and has a much, much better* screen which you can even use outdoors.
HTC Sensation is very nice. ;-) Awesome design and performance!
Go with the Nexus...
720p resolution screen is amazing!
Plus it's a google phone and from the looks it will be a major flagship device for them (unlike the nexus s), so it will receive all and any new updates first. That being said when the official release is made the custom roms will only be that much more stable!
thank you everyone!
i guess i will go for galaxy nexus.

I woudla said sgs or sgs II but seeing how you're not interested in the SGS and nor much interested in the SGS II then i'd say galaxy nexus, being a direct google product has the obvious benefits, plus being a samsung product ensures good reliability, and custom ROM-ing seems very popular and well supported for the samsung line of smart phones. My SGS seems to have a shed load of ROMS for it!

Galaxy Nexus
Galaxy Nexus. Simple choice.
If you must choose now take Galaxy Nexus, but better is to wate until april/may when new phones will arrive to carriers.
Nexus
I would say #1 is the galaxy nexus. It is a great advantage if you want stock android, and if you generally use the stock rom. If you use custom roms, then this won't be a big deal, as you can flash an updated rom. The motorola razr is the second best choice in my opinion. Motorola phones have relatively low amounts of bloatware and are relatively easy to root compared to other phones like samsung.
hope i helped
Nexus S
you may also like the unique curved body of the galaxy s. it is a show off point, but i don't know if that is important to you.

On the flipside, of course, the Galaxy Nexus is also the phone of choice if you're looking for custom ROMs It already acts as a Nexus (pun intended) and benchmark for developers, since it was the device to have supported ICS the longest. Plus, as the latest Nexus device (until later this year), and destined for official updates from google, one can expect dev interest to continue for quite some time.

It depends how much money u can spend for this phone if i will have "some" cash i will buy phone with TI OMAP5 Cortex-A15 made in 28nm technology its 2 core processor but its much more better then tegra 3 and have good battery life with good performance.
I got around $500 bucks to spend.... and in my price range I have 2 options.
Galaxy S2 or the Galaxy Nexus.
I'm not sure which, all i know is my wife who has the Galaxy S2 has a lot of trouble with games, and the Nexus has a powerVR in, slower but more compatible.
S2 or Galaxy Nexus? (i'm not fussed about the 5mp camera on the nexus)
Which is more hackable of the 2 i guess lol or maybe i should wait for the Quad Core Beast from Samsung to drive the prices down a bit more...
If you are willing to get a used phone you have alot more options than just those two phones you mentioned. Look in the marketplace

Depends which S2 your wife has. If she has the T-Mobile one or the AT&T Skyrocket, there's your problem. Those have Snapdragons in them, which suck for gaming. They're not real Galaxy S II's. They're only branded that way to make people buy them. Only the Sprint Epic 4G Touch and the AT&T i777 (Galaxy S II) have the original Exynos chip with the Mali GPU (the one in the real GSII i9100).
If you want a high res display with no microSD slot (16/32GB for GSM/CDMA models respectively) and pure mod-ability, get the Galaxy Nexus. It's pretty good for gaming, but it probably won't handle the next generation of games as well as the GS2. The Galaxy S II has a better GPU and processor, but a lower res screen (which actually means better performance), and 16GB + MicroSD card slot, and a camera that rivals the iPhone 4S's.
They both have great development communities, and all GSII variants are getting ICS officially. (the i9100 already has it). If you want a phone that will 100% get Jelly Bean officially, go for the GNexus.
Gaming/Media-oriented -> Galaxy S II
Pure mod-ability -> Galaxy Nexus
A Galaxy Nexus from Expansys I think is $399, no tax. I know the Google Play store is selling it for the same price, but with tax here in NY that's $450. You should be able to pick up either phone for around $400.

Nexus, without any doubt

You can consider also HTC Sentation XL
try out galaxy nexus.
Although the Galaxy Nexus would be the usual choice, I honestly suggest that you check both phones' Specs carefully.
While Nexus's display is quite nice and it is "more famous" than the S2, in terms of processor or camera, there's no reason not to choose the latter.
Also, you should consider the release of ICS and CM9 for the S2.
One things I'll chime in from my personal experience against the "pure modability" aka Nexus- the best experience I've had with my S2 was on the old, stock ATT rom with the clockwork mod recovery in the stock kernel. All the custom roms I've tried, above all, that the WORST battery life.
So while you'll be able to get more, useless modability out of a Nexus, S2 will work like a champ right out of the box without ANY issues.

Hi guys hoping you can help.
Ive had my Xperia Play since new, but its screen has gone and feels slow compared to my mates phones now.
Ive been offered the choice of 3 phones.
Nokia Lumia
Samsung Galaxy s3
Xperia U
Im only really interested in making calls, texts, emails, music, browsing and games. All the other special features that come with all new phones are just a gimmick to me, (My X Play was rooted and bloat free within an hour of me getting it) so things like "Siri" on Iphone and S-Voice on Samsung are not a deal winner for me.
One thing I would like is to be able to hook my phone up to my TV via HDMI, something that was GREATLY overlooked on the Xplay, mores the pity.
So, seeing as im no expert, and you guys at XDA seem to be in the know please vote and if you pick "other" leave a comment explaining what phone and why.
Many thanks guys and gals!
Mr Flipfoot
it is also depending on what you want to pay for it
if it doesn´t matter what it cost
i would choose the s3 by samsung cause it has the best performance i think (and many custom roms of course and official update support)
you could connect it to your tv with the following adapter by samsung:
EPL-3FHUBE
(sry i can´t post a link because im a new member )
I would choose Samsung S3 because of the performance. If you're a mean android gamer then it's great for you. But if I really get to choose, I'd love to have Xperia acro S. It has 12MP, 1.5 dual core, HDMI, 11GB internal memory, up to 32 GB SD card and others.. It also looks sleek. You should search for it. I'm not much on the processor speed. I just love Sony's design and features. A fast, beautiful phone that could do everything I want would be great enough. This is just a suggestion. The decision is yours of course.
It all depends on
1 what is your budget
2 carrier (contract specific carrier or prepaid)
With your requirements and considering all carriers supported
Galaxy nexus, S2 or S3.

I agree with this. People always look at a Nexus' specs and go "it looks totally average, why get that when you can get a Galaxy S III or blahblahblah". Hardware specs will only get you so far. What good are they, though, when your software is perpetually bloated and outdated? I'd rather not be at the mercy of Samsung/HTC/whoever for updates.
The Nexus development scene is second to none, too.

(I'm presuming that you're very interested in games, browsing etc.)
I know i'm getting hated for saying this but am i the only one that thinks the S3 is overrated? I'd rather have a Galaxy Nexus than an S3. And there are quite a few alternatives to the S3 like the One X (Many reviewers say it has the best screen out there), the 4X HD (Also IPS LCD like the One X but with bigger removable battery and microSD slot), the Galaxy Nexus (Sure, it isn't a quad core but if you check out on youtube a comparison between the GN and a quad core phone you will see that the Nexus can be as smooth (On JellyBean) or even smoother not to mention you get all the updates first) also the RAZR MAXX (It might not be the best phone spec wise but it has a huge battery which provides excellent battery life).
Sorry for the bad english.

Get a Galaxy S2 i9100. It's around $300 and a much better buy. If you can afford it, get a Note N7000. 16GB storage, plus MicroSD card slot, SAMOLED Plus display (Non-Pentile), Dual-Core Exynos 1.2GHz, 1GB of RAM (very important, as the Nexus S only has 512MB), 8MP camera that is known to be amazing.
It's a better phone. I would pick the S2 i9100 over the Nexus S, or even get the AT&T Galaxy S2 i777. It's the same exact phone as the i9100, except it also has NFC and a slightly different button layout (all capacitive keys instead of a physical home button).
THE AT&T VERSION IS ONLY $200-300. Some are even going for $200! Definitely get it. It's an amazing device that can run i9100 (same hardware) with a few tweaks. It has tons and tons of development.

Nexus S is so outdated - please don't buy it. Google has stopped support for it and also similar hardware you can get better phones for ~10K rs. If you don't want much developer / ROM support, there are many options:
AT&T Pantech Burst - get through eBay Global Easy Buy - my current phone, just awesome and available < 10K from GEB. (I got mine used for $75 through a friend coming from USA)
Huawei Snapdragon S2 models - IDEOS X5 / Honor / IDEOS X5 Pro - most are very good and are great value for money in ~10K
HTC One V - another Snapdragon S2 model with ICS - great phone, but a bit expensive at ~15-16K
Xperia models based on NovaThor dualcore in sub-15K are also good.
I have my Nexus S for about a year and a half. With some custom rom, in my opinion it's still comparable with most of the other stuff out there.
Anyway I would rather take the GNex and in a year, there will still be some developer whos building some great rom for your phone.
