is there an app that will totally disable the volume key? i find myself pressing it by accident.
what im looking for is completely disabling it and it will only work when you are in media or video. that the volume cannot be adjust by the volume keys and i have to change profiles with another app

Im looking to create or find a widget/button to change the volume. My goal is to have one button on my home screen that turns the volume down one notch per click, another for volume up and one for mute. Im planing on mounting my tablet in my car and i would be able to get to the dells side volume buttons. I have launcher pro, desktop visual, tasker as my main apps for customization. When I use it to listen to music I throw it in my back pocket. Whenever I move... at all... the volume rocker decides I want music as loud as possible or no volume at all. Is there any way to turn off volume rockers on screen off... or all together? I'm fine with using softkeys to change volume. I have tried widgetlocker and that only works as long as the screen is on.

Built into the software, custom ROM can change this of course.
So we just have to wait for source or ICS... ha lets just hope Sammy doesn't forget about us so soon.

there is a build prop line you can configure so the screen wont trun on when pressing volume keys, perhaps there are more entries which might allow you to disable altogether. I would bet against it though.
Best bet in the meantime would be to search for an app, perhaps something like tasker.

Actually, I used to have a Nexus One and the power button was broken. To circumvent that, I had to use an app called AnyUnlock. I turned the screen on with the volume rocker and you could also use a widget to turn the screen off (rather than using the power button to turn the screen off). Which I suppose could be useful if you have smaller fingers or something and didn't want to make the reach. Very, very useful app when your power button stops functioning.

I'm sure it uses the same method that the other apps use and it even says in the description on their app page that it only works on Froyo and GB.

Volume Rocker Wake works on CM9 Alpha 5
I've been using CM9 Alpha 5 for a few hours now and it's great !
The first think I set was the Volume Rocker Wake as the Power Button is not as easy to press when using most cases covering the power button.
To enable it, go to SETTING --> DISPLAY --> VOLUME ROCKER WAKE
it enables waking the phone by pressing the volume rocker EITHER up/down.
There is no way to specify one or the other
However, it works great ! I'm really liking CM9, my only complaint is the missing HTC Camera which was just amazing with the hardware burst (I'm still looking for a way to flash it if that's even possible).
I like my phone on vibrate all the time, and i know on my GS4, If I press the volume rocker it will adjust the volume level of either ring or media based on what your doing.
I want to make the volume rocker adjust only the media rather than the ringer volume.
I have found this feature to be in CM10, any chance its in vanilla 4.4?
