[TIP] How to flash the Rogers RUU or zip RUU(PJ83IMG.ZIP)

I see a lot of people asking don't know how to flash the rogers RUU zip file.
There are more than one way of the doing it, but I always do it this way.
Steps:
0. ensure the bootloader is locked, or relock it...before step 1. (thanks to h_zee13)
1. download the ARUWizard.rar tool and have htc-sync installed and running.

(for those who doesn't know chinese just click the green rectangle button)
* if someone can upload this to a better online storage, please send me the link I will edit this.
2. unzip it the ARUWizard.rar into a folder.
2. delete the "rom.zip" in that folder or move to another place.
3. copy your "PJ83IMG.ZIP" into the folder.
4. run "ARUWizard.exe", follow the steps.
note. if you are not on xp, please right click the "ARUWizard.exe" with administrator permission.
or
boot into bootlaoder and enter fastboot usb mode. make sure you have fastboot and adb installed.
do:
fastboot erase cache
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip rom.zip

you know I cant verity that....since this is my first htc phone and it's s-off....

I think his question really was if i have an unsigned kernel/recovery can i inject it into the PJxxxx.zip and flash it.
And from what i have read, no it wont work DG

yes..i understand him, but since mine is s-off so It will work, but not sure it will work or not with s-on units

easiest method is to just run the ruu, rename the zip you want to flash to 'rom.zip', drop it in the temp folder housing the original rom.zip, and then go back and continue through the installer. easy.

Thanks niceppl. I just used this how-to and it worked great. Maybe just add as the first step to make sure that bootloader is locked

Just to be clear ..
- Can I run any RUU? (Perhaps one of the AT&T RUUs for the One X?).
- In this case, I rename "PJ83IMG_Evita_UL_Rogers_WWE_1.73.631.1_Radio_0.16a.32.09.06_10.81.32.14L_release_254934_signed.zip" to "rom.zip", correct? Thx.

any ruu, and yes. rename as such.
If you've used HTC DEV to unlock your bootloader you need to re-lock your bootloader (using command: fasboot oem lock) in order for the ruu method to work successfully.

help with ext4 recovery!

Hi all, I have an s-on unlocked htc sensation. Last night I went to bed and woke up to a phone that was dead (forgot to plug in) so I charged it a little bit and then turned it on..only to find that it just stays at the white HTC screen. I then went into recovery and tried to reinstall a clockwork mod recovery(which has worked plenty of times) but this time it said "the folder does not contain any zip files, so I thought, Oh well time to do a fresh install anyway, so I went into the 4ext recovery/wiped everything, then turned on the smart ext..ran super wipe, then installed the elegancia 4.0 2.7, everything went fine...until it finished, EXT4 recovery then says something like creating backup..blah blah blah..then says backup failedthere was an error processing the command (not the exact terminology)..so then i let it restart and again it is stuck at the white htc screen. I then reboot into recovery again, and it says smart 4ext has been disabled, go to tools etc to re-enable..report your error blah blah blah..I just dont get it, i have done this many times, but I am clueless on why it wont boot..i have the latest files etc too 1.27.00 bootloader as well, I am unable to do anything with adb right now..I am at work, but really need a phone today..can someone help possibly?..Thanks a million....Larry

Anyways coming to your post.. Flash the boot.img of the rom you have flashed from bootloader/fastboot

I forgot about having to do it that way since I dont have s-off..I cant get to a computer that has adb right now..is there any way I can do this from the phone?..maybe extract the boot.img from the zip file or something like that?Thanks for your help.

Not possible as you would be using the kernel when you are booting the phone (just like how formatting c drive (where windows is normally installed) is not possible when using windows)

It'll be easier to help if you can provide exact errors you are getting and exactly what you did. Try installing an AOSP ROM and let us know the error you are getting. I've never used smart EXT so maybe let it be disabled and try.

you can't do it through the phone casue to flash the boot.img you need to be in fastboot mode...

[Q] I hope I didn't brick my phone

I'm new to android and really hope I didn't pooch my phone.
I tried installing Jelly Bean and now can't do much of anything. I can get into bootloader and load up team windows recovery (not sure what to do in there)
When I am in fastboot and try through a command prompt adb devices doesn't list the HTC One X (Rogers, Canada)
I really am not sure what to do. I have downloaded a ton of stuff nothing seems to make a difference (HTC drivers, img and zip files..) I think it boils down to getting some direction on what troubleshooting to do with the exact files I would need to use.

flash a rom in recovery ofcourse.
adb doesnt work in hboot only fastboot. your phone is fine. you need to copy the rom zips to your sdcard. then go to install inside recovery. you can mount your sdcard inside recovery also so you can copy stuff. you should still be able to reboot the system normal and have it boot fine. unlocking and flashing recovery doesnt wipe your phone.

Fair enough I have a couple rom zips I think

ROM-017.zip
cm10_endeavoru-ota-eng.noeri-017.zip
None of these worked.. they all failed.

Those are old(1st one) which you can't flash in recovery anyways since its an RUU or not for your phone(Other 2).

Don't flash the endeavoru zip. You'll have a beautiful paperweight

What is my alternative?
Also I'm not 100% sure that I haven't already done that. Does that mean its beyond fixing ?

So you flashed a .zip file, not knowing what it would do or what would happen? Nevertheless, a .zip file not for your device?

No, if you can get into fastboot your fine.... I would just download the correct "Evita" ruu, not endeavor. Run it, do some thorough research and try again......... ruus can be found in the compilation roll up stickied thread

Which seems to be the only Rogers RUU however its also the only one i've seen so far that isn't an exe but a zip file.
Is there an RUU application?

Forget ruu. Flash twrp recovery if you haven't already, download viperXL in our dev section, fire up twrp, mount usb, copy viperXL over, unmount usb, install from zip, select viperXL. Zip, follow prompts, reboot, victory.

I tried to root my HTC one S but after I unlocked the bootloader (boot loader is now UnLocked) , I couldn't run the SuperSu zip file because When I
open the recovery it shows a red message saying:
"this build is for development purposes only do not distribute outside htc with out htc write permission failure to comply my lead to legal action ."
i cant do nothing else with the device,he's stuck on that massage ":this build...."
all i can do is go to recovery mod and that's about it,cant find nor open the supersu zip file
does any one know what to do to repair this?

It sounds like you didn't flash a custom recovery. If you can get back into the bootloader go to fastboot and do that.

I did flash it through bootloader and still nothing there
i mean i can go to twrp 2.3 recovery but i cant find the zip file
it's not under "install" option.

Lol...put it on your SD Card. Mount it from recovery then flash it.

dude,i dont understand why your'e saying "put it on sdcard" i dont have a slot for an sdcard it's the one s
and if your'e meaning to the sdcard folder;I cant get inside there too..
the only thing that works for me is the bootloader and hasoon 2000.

Dude...where you drag and drop files from your computer is considered sd card as you can clearly read!!! Hasoon2000 is a person btw.
But seriously, If you're having these issues you don't need to root. Honestly after ics there really isn't any point . If you know what you are doing then maybe you are stuck in your ways, but if you don't there really isn't any point considering you are asking the same exact question that has been asked nearly every day....

Another case of why you should READ and learn before using an all-in-one toolkit. People just press the big ROOT button, and don't have a clue how to even install a zip file.

This is why u root manually because you will always run into problems when flashing roms, rooting etc this was my first Android and I did root manually u need to learn if u don't know simple things like sd card don't root I'm telling you

Honestly, I turned my one S into a shiny sleek paperweight for about 2 hours because I came from devices that all had S-off so I was used to just dropping the zip on there and flashing it. Long story short I didn't fast boot the boot.img til the 3rd try or so.

I just unlocked my phone (HTC Amaze 4G - T-Mobile- ICS) and when I go in to bootloader, it shows it unlocked, but I can't seem to fine SuperUser or get it on there using Hansoon2000's tool kit. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong. I just switched from an iPhone and I'm new to Android.

I followed the HTC Desire X toolkit v2.1 but my phone is still not rooted.
I got the bootloader unlocked at least thats what it says at when i go to the bootloader.
I have loaded the TWRP image first the 2.4.3. version and booted to recovery installed SupeSU but it does not work
Keeps complaining about SU binary.
So upgraded tot TWRP 2.5 with the same result no root access
So what am i doing wrong ? If you can help me please ???

Have you tried to use fastboot instead of twrp. Place the zip in the adb folder.
"fastboot flash recovery (file name).zip"

Same problem with my supersu. I downloaded another supersu zip and flashed it from recovery.
Don't know if it's safe or not, but worked for me.

Stock Rom Mytouch 4g

Currently looking for a stock nandroid for the mytouch 4g. I am getting a new phone and giving my mytouch to my sister and need it to be on the stock rom. Anyone who has a link to it please let me know. All the links i have found on the site are dead now because the files are so old. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

All you have to do is put it on your sd card, boot into recovery, fastboot should automatically install it.
Just make sure the file is named PD15IMG.zip. If it isn't named exactly right it won't install.
If your uncomfortable doing this I'll upload a normal rom.

OK yeah i can do that. Just do a full wipe prior because its currently on 4.2.2. Thanks for the files
