Recently, my device has ceased connect to PC via USB, when you connect the cable, only charges the phone and the computer does not detect the device.
And the phone does not show up a window for selecting the connection mode
Has anyone experienced this?
How can I fix it?
Try a different cable (the super long ones have issues like this), try a different USB port on your computer, and then maybe try a different computer and see what happens.

Did you recently change roms? If you're now on a mtd ROM then you need to have the google sdk/ drivers on your comp.
If not then yeah... Try another port, reboot the comp if you haven't. I would uninstall drivers and do a clean install.

Hey. My captivate has been working beautifully with these new GB roms until about a week ago when my computer won't even recognize my phone. and all the phone shows that it charging but no notification about USB connection? ive tried different ports and reinstalling drivers all that good stuff and restarting my computer and turning on and off usb debugging and the cable still works with other devices so can anyone help?
Also can you tell me if samsung will replace my phone with a custom ROM on it? im thinking of doing this because i cant flash back to stock without the USB working!
Are you sure the cable is 100% functional? What other devices?
Try plugging it in to another computer as well

I have had that problem on a few gb roms too. Go into USB settings and change them to kies and then plug your phone into the computer using your USB cable. Just leave it plugged in for a few seconds, you don't have to wait for your phone to be detected. After unplugging the cable, restart your computer and phone. Once both are running again, go back into USB setting and change them back to USB storage and then plug your phone back into your computer, making sure you use a USB port directly connected to your motherboard. Works for me everytime.
Edit: If you suspect that your USB cable is not working, see if Odin will detect your phone in download mode. Don't flash anything, just see if it says connected in Odin.

it didnt work if i just go to samsung and give them the phone with the custom rom on it what would they do?
Download kies and see if your computer will detect your phone in kies mode. You could always get an SD card and put all the files on the card then move them to your internal SD. If you have a custom rom installed you can flash stock using cwm. Did you try connecting your phone in download mode to your computer running Odin??? If it doesn't detect it then your USB port is not working or your USB cable is broken. If it is working flash stock and start again. It could be a bad flash.
i have had the same problem a couple days ago, plugged in another captivate into my computer it recognized it. then plugged in my phone and everything was working fine again.
try plugging in anothe android phone running froyo or whatever version you have

Sounds like it could be, try plugging it into the back of the computer and see if that helps.

The USB drivers for download mode are in the bootloaders and has nothing to do with the USB drivers for the rom. Even if you had a bad flash and the USB portion of the rom was corrupt, your computer would still be able to detect your phone in download mode. See if you can plug your phone into a different computer either at a friends house or at work to see if they can detect your phone with your cable. If not, you will need a new cable.

So what if that didn't work and nothing was wrong with the cable? Would it be my USB port on the phone because the cable wiggles when I put it in.

Have you tried using a different USB cord? If it's not that then something might have gotten messed up on the port on the phone.
EDIT: Also, try using a different computer with a different USB cord.

I wanted to root my friends ns4g but my of won't recognize it. He had a galaxy s 2 as well and it was the same issue.
I installed pdanet, Samsung drivers, different USB cords, nothing!
When I plug it in nothing happens, then about 5 mins later, USB not recognized. I manually tried to put the .inf file through the windows 7 wizard and still nothing.
Like I said my ns4g works perfectly fine, when I plug his in nothing works at all. I don't understand this at all. I have a 64bit system and made sure everything was for that. Can anyone help me out?

Can you mount usb in either recovery (if applicable) and android? Have you tried with usb debugging enabled? Also, does it show you no android device is connected in device manager?

in device manager it only shows unknown usb device with "!" symbol. Yes for debugging, and cant boot into recovery, there is no recovery as its not rooted.
help someone please! lol
There was something i read about the fast charge widget messing up the ability of the nexus to properly connect to the computer and a fix. Part of its design is to block USB file transfer when connected to a computer. There were several phones that couldn't connect after loading the widget.
Before i go and waste a bunch of time researching and digging for this. I would like to know if your friend has installed the fastcharge widget on his phone.

Its soo strange. I plug my phone all good, I plug his NS4G, no detection. It's strange.
Same thing happened when i was trying to root his tmobile gs2. No driver worked.
did you install tbe drivers by booting into bootloader while pluged in?
Sent from my LS670 using XDA
yeah, didnt work. Factory Reset the phone too.
Try a different USB port on PC and pull the battery for a min.

Try drivers from Samsung support page. It took me a bit. But usually the pdanet drivers work. You could try another pc that does not have the drivers for the nexus.

Ever since installing ICS I get a BSOD on my PC (win7 Home Prem 64) when I connect my Skyrocket. It happens most of the time but not all. I have downloaded the Samsung drivers and tired the drivers from Windows Update...same thing. I have tried with and without usb debugging enabled. Also, it seems that usb tethering is always on as I get a new network found sometimes when I connect it and it doesn't bsod. I went in and unchecked usb tethering once it was connected but I don't see an option to have it permanently disabled by default.
Any suggestions?
This is a windows issue. My suggestion is try the Ms KB or technet. Maybe uninstall ur USB from device manager and reboot. Then try to connect again.
I've had this problem too connecting my SR to my Asus G74's USB 3.0 port. It seems that the USB 2 ports don't have the same issue.
Try Kies
Delete your drivers, Reboot and Install KIES Worked for me! on Win 7 Ultimate.
Also I use Zentimo Storage Manager. Seems to help!

I had this when I was stuck on Windows for a week (my screen was broken on my laptop).
Just reboot your computer and try again.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I had this problem today. Instant bluescreen when I plugged in my S2. Don't use the USB 3.0 port. Use 2.0. It was an immediate fix. Don't mess with your drivers or anything, just use USB 2.0 port.
I have completely lost connection with my computer. It does not detect the phone at all during standard usb to phone connection nor does odin recognize a phone being hooked up. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help.

Try deleting the Samsung drivers on your computer and let Windows find them for you or switch usb ports or check out your Device manager and see if there are any problems in there... Assuming that you are running windows? Hope this helps...:good:
Options
1.try another computer
2. Dont use a usb hub
3.try a different usb port... stay a way from usb 3.0
4. It might be a bad usb cable
5. Uninstall the driver then reinstall them(install if youb dont have it)

Thanks for the advice guys. I tried a different cable, USB and deleting the drivers. It doesn't detect my phone at all after this.
I'm pretty sure it is an issue with my phone. I plugged my wife's s3 in and instant detection. I'm gonna call vzw and have a replacement sent.
Thanks again for the help.

Be sure debugging is off, or the drivers will not automatically download. Switch back on when you start using Odin
