[Q] Am I dumber than sh*t? Removed SD card while phone still on! - General Questions and Answers

I though the phone was off! I removed the SD card, and now I can't see any contents when reinserted. Were the contents wiped? Is there any way to get the contents back?

Most likely nothing will be deleted as I've taken memory card ls out many times. Hopefully you didn't take it out while the phone was trying to write something. To be safe just turn your phone off, reinsert the card and then back on, it probably didn't delete anything.

Unfortunately the card looks empty. I don't even know if it's working, but I do not want to try to write anything in case that would over write something important.

You can try using recuva on windows, or undelete on android, inorder to recover your files...

Try a app called undelete.apk

If you have a Windows PC, stick in the SD card and run "chkdsk /f" from a command prompt.

[Q] Content is microSD not seen

I use PC to copy movies to a microSD.
Astro cannot see anything, saying the directory (mnt/sdcard/external) is empty, but report the size taken correctly, and I cannot copy anything to it.
Any help?
Try taking out the SD card, turning the device off, putting the SD card back in, turning the device back on.

now i haven't use SD card. but i encounter a similar problem like you. folder created on PC but i don't find them on my xoom. i download some apps, that is not work. has anyone else noticed the same? please help if you can.

My SD card is a zombie

so i keep deleting files from my sd card but they keep coming back.
i've pulled it out and plugged it to my laptop and it says files are protected? didn't know micro sd cards can be protected ( no physical switch on the side) nor did i find anything underneath properties tab.
i went as far as formatting it while mounted, all files delete but when i restart the phone, they all come back.
i like to know how i can make this go away, kindly advise. thanks.
What files are you deleting? Android puts certain files and folders on the SD card automatically

somehow they became write protected and i can't get it out of it.
need a new flash adapter , unless there is a way to remove write protected stage while its mounted to my phone?
Have you tried using an file shredder utility on your PC to delete them? Past that I would say its a mystery.

This happened to me a few times before as well it except I was trying to format the card instead. If I remember correctly it was because of some type of setting having to do with developers usb connection. I'll edit this post if I remember/find out what I did exactly

still looking, any one have a solution for formatting a write protected micro sd?
Are you trying to format it or delete specific files. If you want to format it find a hex editor, put a normal sd card and steal the hex from the normal sd card and put it on the 1 you're trying to format

Hi, trying to either remove protected content or format it, which ever way possible.
define steal? just downloaded freeware hex editer xvi32. not sure how to operate it though.
how do i steal the hex from another sd card?
I can't reproduce the problem so I'm unable to find the solution again. Sorry. That and I've also lost the 16gb micro SD card that had that problem. I'm using a 32gb now.
!
called samsung and they'll do a warranty exchange on it. problem solved
not sure how the micro sd locked up but it did, strange things happen i guess. i even tried multiple sd adapters and devices and still got the same error.
thanks everyone for their feedback.

[Q] Micro SD card problem

Hello all and everyone who may be able to help me out! I recently got a new phone (galaxy nexus) and decided to root and s-off my evo 3d. After another sad fail at s-off, my sd card was acting up. When its in a phone, it will say the card is blank or it is using an unsupported file system. Upon formatting option nothing happens. When i insert the sdcard into an adapter and put it into my computer, i can navigate to my computer and when i try to get into the drive, "my computer" crashes and i have to remove the card to get back to the start screen. I can use the drive for other things but it just wont read this card and makes the computer freeze. ive tried programs and whenever i try to select the drive, again the program im using crashes. Other cards work fine so it seems the card itself is the problem. worked fine before. Can anyone help me out here?
Had a similar problem a while back seems i had forgot to remove the password before plugging the card into my pc. Not sure how that will help you here tho.
replace the card and check if it is working than the card is defected

Is your phone able to read/detect your card?
If yes then:
Go to Phone Settings> Storage Settings> Unmount SD card> Erase SD card.
Report if that works.
If it's dead, most reputable manufacturers offer a warranty on their cards. Go to their website & look up the procedure for getting an RMA. That's much cheaper than buying a new card.

When the cards in my phone, it gives a notification saying that is an unsupported file system or that it is A blank SD card. When it is in the phone it will not let me erase. when I select Format, it's just kind of stops. and if I select it again, nothing. Can't use unmount or mount as they are greyed out. Wish I could format it.

I had a similar problem figuring out that moving Apps to external sd and then removing this sdcard CAN DESTROY the sdcard controller - better unmount card then remove it or switch phone off and remove it !
Even more worst - it's still working sometimes on any PC with adapter - if you have warranty on that sdcard i would replace it in the store bought !

Maybe i had luck - but since the failure i have been very carefully !
Nowadays sdcards should beeing built that writing more than 100000 times should be possible - so such an error should also not occur
but what the sdcards are very sensitive is heat - temperatures above 55 ° C (131 F) is almost a no go! (or increasing failure rate drastically !)

No when this failure appears - formatting is not possible anymore - the "controller" inside the sdcard is defect !

Just by replying with some information your helping me out. I have tried many SD card repair tools but when the card is in my computer, and if I do anything related to the card, the program just crashes until I pull the card out. I will post a video later. I've never seen this before. If nothing works I'm just gonna get another.

How to format the SD Card from my phone without losing data?

My computer just passed away, so now I'm left with my HTC One and my iPad. I need format my SD Card without a computer, so I obviously would like to keep some of my data. Is that possible? Can I just partition the SD Card? Help!
Heuu soryy you cant or maybe sd partitioner is existing as an apk

I don't believe that you can.
"Formatting", by definition wipes all the data on your SD card.
What about backing it up to a cloud service of your choice,or just email the things you want to keep ....to yourself,at least you can keep your pics an stuff,I do that for my build prop mods and apks I have on my SD when I'm not around my PC.

Try AirDroid , to transfer stuff to your iPad over WiFi
Then partition/format, open up AirDroid again, drop your contents back to phone.
Note: only works if u have a small amount of data to transfer around

Blank MicroSD Card

I used to have to have a 32gb MicroSD card in my Note 3 which i used to use for my files. After I rooted my phone, I thought it would be a good idea to store my TWRP backups to my MicroSD card as it frees up internal storage but however after I initially made my 1st backup to my card, the system booted up and apparently the card was blank. I know this to be false as I have loads of photos on it and I selected the MicroSD card in recovery to make my nandroid backup to and after like 3 minutes, it was made.
Question is. How do I get my MicroSD card back to normal. I'm aware of formatting it and then mounting it in recovery but I don't want to lose my files on the card. I inserted the card into my laptop and the command prompt said it had a RAW file system.

I used Recuva. It's from the people that make CCleaner. Worked for me. But honestly, don't let it restore files that are partially damaged, because if they're music or photos or videos, they won't play/display correctly, and it'll cause wakelocks from the media scanner until you find and delete them.

Don't reformat, just put the microSD card into your computer (with an adapter, or with something that will let it show up as mass storage, not MTP). Point Recuva to the card. It'll tell you what files are partially restorable and fully restorable. Like I said, don't restore the damaged stuff. From experience, what'll happen if you do is you're gonna get wake locks and no app will be able to tell you which files are damaged. So you'll end up having to format the entire card anyways to get rid of the wake lock/damaged files.
