same "problem"...
kies isn't the best way IMHO....
if you put inside the plus a microsd card could you use it as a "pen drive" ?!

I don't know if you already tried this, but it's the only way I found to transfer files to the tablet:
Open Kies and connect the tablet and right at the end of that bar showing memory usage there's a button called Internal Memory, if you click it will open a tiny window to you transfer your files.
That's the only way I found.

Easy Phone Tunes is the solution and it's free !
He sync music, podcast and playlist automatically. It's smart enough to don't syncing drm protected files and don't reencode the AAC files (kies does it).
Tested with my GT-P6210 and my Xperia S

@FMaranda: OMG, Thanks you...I never saw this button before...

Only one official option, on PC AND Mac

I was resisting using KIES for as long as I could but it is actually a pretty good program and the ONLY way to transfer files as MTP on Sammy devices. My wife's LG phone and others use a program called Android File Transfer but it doesn't work with Samsung devices.

AirDroid is nice app too.

[Q] Music file transfer without mounting SD?

is there anything out there using the same technology as
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=628138
that enable file transfer to the device with having to mount and unmount the SD?
Ive been looking for some sort of music managing app? but I haven't found anything like this.
If you have a wifi connection, you can easily estabilish the FTP connection between phone and your PC/Mac by using SwifTP server in Android device - works great with like 800kb/s transfer.
the technology is adb...
you could setup an ssh/ftp/smb server on the phone
I have toyed around with FTP and SMB connections and they are fine foe single files but for managing media they can be very manual.
Hmm, I am ueing the ftp connwction very often with Windows Commander as a client. Worked great.

SwiFTP and NetDrive (netdrive.net sorry, I'm not allowed to post URL's. )
This allows you to map your SD card as a network drive in windows explorer. You just have to start the SwiFTP service on the phone each time you want to manage files (and keep the small netdrive service running on your computer). Other than that, it's just drag and drop like any attached hard drive.
Why? Use Android Commander or QtAdb

Because I don't always like to go find my cable and deal with the flaky USB port to transfer files.
Although QtAdb looks interesting...
What's wrong with DropBox?
www dot dropbox dot com
Yeah, no posting URLs for me, either.
You can get up to 10 GB of storage free there.
It's best if you get a referral from someone to sign up, that way you start with an extra 250 MB over the stock 2 GB they give you.
PM me if you care to, and I'll refer you.
You can also check out DoubleTwist for managing media. I believe they are working over WiFi now.

Any programs to transfer files from desktop to EVO via wifi?

I was hoping someone could recommend me an app that will allow me to transfer files from my desktop PC to my EVO (non-rooted) via my home WiFi network?
Thank you for your help,
Whiteice
Have you ever heard of Dropbox? It's not quite as simple as what your asking for but works nicely with the Dropbox app for Android.
http://db.tt/Bdz1z7E or go to dropbox.com

How secure is this Dropbox? I could have used this a few weeks ago before my laptop crashed. I have sensitive info that was on there like my resumes and stuff.
Thank you for your suggestion,

SwiFTP FTW
But in your case, may DropBox be better because you don't need to download or backup to your phone: it's all on the cloud.
Hey... suggestion...
Awesome Drop does an amazing job as well, I use it for most of my transfers. requires no software on pc side, and one app on phone. does a great job. then you can open the files in any app on your phone.

ES File explorer
SMB, FTP, and BT transfer
ES File Explorer + connectify is great couple
or you can try MyPhoneExplorer
I use dropbox to transfer files from PC to phone or vice versa. gotta say this app works like a charm.

Doesn't dropbox actually store ur files on the net? Therefore your using data allowance? I use dropbox for files I want to access from other computers or phones outside my home network. Otherwise "my phone explorer "is the best I've found just need the programme for ur PC aswell and the it's just like connecting USB but over wifi. And faster than dropbox because ur not using data just ur home network!.
My 2 cents anyway.

It has an HTTP sharing feature that I use a lot. It basically starts a simple file server and tells you a URL. From there, you can upload/download through your browser on your computer.

and slow as hell
A little late, but I am a huge Dropbox fan as well.
a kernel with CIFS support and the CIFS Manager app. It lets you mount a windows share on your device and lets any app access it as if it were any other folder on your SD card. Love it.
Haven't tried any of the others mentioned but Dropbox is easy and quick.
Keeps your files synced between computer and phone, backs up a copy online on their secure server so you can view it on another computer if needed.
Kind of old, but HomePipe is a fairly nice app.

File sharing with PC thru wifi?

Simple question: since I have my wifi coming from my PC, can I somehow file share from phone to PC? Linda manager has a Network option, so I think this is possible.
Thanks.

Use Software data cable on the android market......it does just want u want to do....
I see samba and that's well and good to go from PC to phone, but I was interested in pulling up PC network from my phone. I haven't seen that option with any of these programs.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
I haven't tried it, but ES file explorer has a network option as well. You'd likely have to know how to set up your computer so that it can "talk" to other computers, in this case your phone, on the network. It's not hard, and I think you could use windows network setup wizard to get you rolling. I'm a little rusty in that area unfortunately, of you don't use it you loose it.

Is that phone to PC? NOT PC to phone
My bottom line is that I want the option to access my computer from my phone.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
So what exactly are you looking to access on your PC? If you want to access storage then there is sure to be an app that does that, which is what I would think ES can do, it looks like you have multiple settings for type, even looks like maybe an ad-hoc mode as well. Otherwise, if you're looking to control the PC, I think Team Viewer can do it, I never got around to setting it up PC to PC though but I would think it would work with the app.
I'm using a small FTP server on the phone. It's called SwiFTP. Does an amazing job.
I don't really have a specific purpose, I just want to know if the functionality exists. There has been times I download torrents with my phone, then I have to go plug in and transfer. I'd rather transfer wireless since I'm already using wifi from the PC.
Yea, I'm being lazy, but still.

Also AirDroid in the Market will transfer via WiFi from phone to PC and PC to phone using your web browser on your PC.
I have File Expert, works great with PC to phone via FTP. But the program has to function to go from phone to PC.
Sure, sitting on my computer I can swap files back and forth. But on the phone all I can do with the program is turn on the file sharing, can't actually do the swapping from phone.

Is it only those two folders not showing?
Are both the internal and external SD card showing?
Are they, by some chance, marked as hidden?

In your Windows Explorer folder settings / options, there is an option to "show hidden files".
Also, you can view the info of a file or folder on your Android from a file browser.
Posted from my Paranoia Infused Android, now featuring Butter flavored JellyBeans!
do you have a file manager type app? can you see /sdcard/DCIM from that?
there isn't nessesarily a "sdcard/music" folder unless you created one, the media scanner will find music and photos no matter where they are stored. the files would be stored in /sdcard/download if you used the browser to download them, they may also be in folders that are created by apps if you use some mp3 downloader app.
the lack of */DCIM would be odd though. unless you use a 3rd party camera app.
Yeah I use root explorer and I can access it with no problem and on windows I already tried to show hidden files too.
Already tried going to stock.

If they're not hidden, I wonder why they don't show in Windows when the phone is plugged through USB...
Do you have a USB micro SD card reader dongle?
If so, try taking the card out of the phone and plug it directly into your computer.
If the files show, something on the phone (somehow) is messing something up.
If they don't show, there's some sort of issue with the card.
Here he is having your same problem:

They suggested deleting a .nomedia file somewhere in your sdcard and removing rom manager

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda premium
You don't have to use it for the problem to show up. If it is installed it may be affecting it. Also, the .nomedia file is a hidden file so make sure show hidden files is turned on in your file explorer.

.nomedia isn't his problem.
He said everything shows fine when viewed on his phone.
He wants to view the files on his COMPUTER (pc) when the phone is linked with usb and storage mounted.
But those two folders won't show in WINDOWS.
The problem is entirely different from that thread.
Tavitos, have you tried plugging the SD Card directly to the computer with a dongle like I asked?
Posted from my Paranoia Infused Android, now featuring Butter flavored JellyBeans!
Oh I see, sorry. I misunderstood his situation.
That's quite strange though.. something similar has happened to me with my tablet before. Could somehow your usb connection be malfunctioning?
Maybe the cable or the ports?
What rom are you currently running? If the problem persists consider reflashing.

I'm running Aeon.
and the only issue is my internal. Not the external. You think it can be a driver issue?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda premium
If the computer is popping up a folder at all when you plug it in, it wouldn't be the driver...
So they're on the internal SD?
Hmm... On a whim, take out the External card, boot up your phone, then hook it up to the computer and see if those folders show.

Sd card on pc?

I installed the Samsung drivers and all and the pc is recognizing the phone but it will only give me options to go into windows media player to transfer music or access it as a camera...the phone won't show up as a drive with all my Sd card files and I can't move anything to it...I used my old card from may fassy so I thought I wouldn't have too reload all my music and ringtones which all shores up on the phone as extsd...and anything now ids saving to Sd...
Is the phone supposed to show up as a drive on the computer? Would formatting my Sd card fix this or is this how it's supposed to be? I want to root and whatnot but can't find a way to view the full Sd card content only music and pictures...do I need an external reader to do this? Is it normal? I have a class 4 16gb card...I can't even view the pics on the pc just icons and numbers and although the pictures I take show up on the Sd in the phone they're not pin the computer
Any advice would be much appreciated...I just got this phone from having a fassy and am quite confused...

If it's not rooted there isn't many options other than cheetah sync. You can use Kies which let's u sync media files easily. To root these phones its extremely easy now. There is a program u put on your computer and it does everything for you. After its rooted do a search on the forum for ums and it should pull up the guide that people have used to get it working. From rooting to running a script to let u enable ums mode its really easy thanks to the people who take the time to come up with the work arounds. I have done it and it was simple to do. I would estimate it taking 30 min to root and setup the script using pre made scripts from the guide and the program available free from the play store.
Sent from my using xda app-developers app
I'm surprised out doesn't let you do mass storage...the pc program in the routing guide...I'm assuming that works for the newest phone radio, or is it modem maybe on the phone? I know I saw root66 its for the older one....
Sorry for all the questions...just trying to make sure of everything so I don't end up with a very expensive paperweight and making sure its all working as it should be...Verizon's user manual is useless for this phone
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Rooting using the program gs3debugfsroot doesn't matter which radio u have. From my understanding it just enables su in the stock roms. It doesn't reset any of your data and doesn't require you to flash anything. The programs connects to your phone and then probably uses an exploit to push the su files enabling more system control.

quick 2 questions on this as well. So I can see "Some" of my files but not all for ex.... the files with . (dot) "file name" or .. (dot dot) "file name" will not show up nor will .jpg thumbnails show up. I can take the files such as pictures .jpg and move them to my pictures folder and they will show thumbnails, just cannot view thumbnail pics while connected via usb to pc. Hope that makes since. any ideas
I had the same problem at first...i think i reinstalled the drivers with my phone plugged in switched to camera mode and it worked...either that or rooting it made it work...i almost find it easier to just get a 2 dollar micro sd usb reader off amazon just stick the card in there plug it into the pc and then you have full access...this phone is a real pain with sd card access...you can always use dropbox or kies (although it didn't work on my old pc)
