Hi all,
I currently have a Dell Streak 5 as my "main brain" (or mini tablet,.
I've been frustrated by Dell's lack of support and no fully functional GB ROMs.
Now that the Infuse has an official GB ROM, I'm sorely tempted to switch.
So I put this to you, Infuse enthusiasts, are you happy with you device?
Specifically speed and reliability, 3G reception, and camera quality?
Many thanks in advance!
Martin

The Infuse certainly has a lot of goodness going for it. The audio quality is purely outstanding...in the leagues with the Cowons and other high-end audio players. The display is gorgeous and the look and feel of the Infuse is elegant and quite handsome. The battery life is actually not bad at all, for an Android.
However, the Infuse is definitely one of the buggiest Android phones available. TouchWiz, Samsung's UI overlay for Android, is among the worst of them. When I first set my Infuse up, I got a few system crashes and lag-O-rama. I had to switch to an alternative launcher to get by with my Infuse. But, for some reason, now that mine has been in use for a week, TouchWiz has smoothed out considerably.
I've heard good thing's about the Dell Streak but have never used one. But I do know, even with all of it's bugginess, I do love my Infuse. I find that I prefer listening to music with my Infuse rather than any of my many DAPs. That may be a testament to the Yamaha audio chip I believe the Infuse uses...same as the new SGS2.
I'd suggest giving an Infuse a try before buying.
Oh, and by the way, GB isn't yet available for the AT&T Infuse. Many of us Infuse users are waiting patiently for AT&T to release the update.
I love my Infuse. Out of the box it's probably a crap device, but my typical "time to live" for any stock ROM on any phone I've owned in the past 4-5 years has been a day or less.
The display is simply gorgeous, with a non-stock ROM it's incredibly responsive, the sound quality is great.
The camera's better than any phone I've ever used before - it can actually successfully scan barcodes and QR codes. (I shoot with a Pentax DSLR - so I won't touch phone cameras with a 10 foot pole for anything but barcode scanning...)

Trust me, the camera, though having excellent features and adjustments, is crap, especially for lower light conditions...like under a canopy in bright daylight. It seems to have terrible low-light performance even with the daylight setting checked.
It's Amazing
I'm still using the stock rom, as every customization I've wanted except one can be done without even rooting the phone. I pulled my phone out of the box, turned it on, and immediately downloaded Go Launcher EX, set the home screen to 5x5 icons and disabled icon labels... yea it's definitely the phone and look I want. It comes with much less bloat crap than the other AT&T phones, it allowed 3rd party install apps out of the box, and it has the fastest HSPA+ speeds of their "4G" phones according to the specs provided. Many made fun, as I purchased a 2011 phone with a single core processor... The funny thing is stock the 1.2GHz processor usually runs faster than a stock Atrix with its dual-core 1GHz phone (which my wife has). The phone is $98 at the nearby stores... I absolutely cannot see a reason why anyone wouldn't chose this phone unless you're waiting for the SGSII or you want something small like that hp thing.
It's just a jumbo Captivate.

If you think this phone is buggy, go try the G2x. Its a turd with an HDMI port. Out of the 5 android phones I've owned the Infuse is by far the best.

Okay, thanks for the feedback all!
I'm a little surprised that AT&T doesn't have GingerBread yet, as Rogers (the Canadian equivalent network) launched the phone with GB here some time ago, unless I'm very much mistaken.
I wouldn't be using the stock launcher as I'm very happy with SPB 3D, which I already use on my Streak and Iconia.
You guys also seem to have a healthy development section here too.
I have played with a demo in stores a couple times and I do like the device a lot.
Does AT&T lock the bootloader or NAND on the phone?

If you use the camera for pictures or video often, it's a no brainer. The Infuse camera is superior over the Dell Streak. I moved from the dell streak and I don't miss the extra .5 inch screen.

After reading this thread, I was intrigued to see how well the camera fared in a mixed light situation. I recorded some footage and played it through my 1080P HDTV. I nearly shat myself when I saw it directly linked via HDMI. The Infuse truly is an impressive little beast of a device.
Infuse has amazing screen, camera and design. The stock rom is pretty bad actually, its laggy and the browser loves crashing a lot. However, with infusion gingerbread rom and overclock to 1.6 this phone is super fast and flies through everything and the browser is super fast, so now it can handle 1080p youtube videos. With infused rom and 1.6ghz overclock i can say its as fast as galaxy s2 which I've played with.
Okay, guys, regarding the camera performance of the Infuse...I did a test of 5 different smartphones. They were all set to auto or neutral...no enhancements at all. I did, however, set the Infuse to daylight mode with the checkmarked. Otherwise it would be way too dark. All were taken from the exact same position. Zoom was not used...just how the cameras are by default once booted up.
I took 3 pictures of the same scene each and chose the best, most focused, one.
I had to crop the Infuse picture because the forum wouldn't upload it. It kept saying the file was too big. But I didn't crop it much. The main thing is the picture is unaltered in its image, only size.
The phones are:
Samsung Focus
HTC HD2 with Android
Samsung Infuse 4G
HTC Inspire 4G
Apple iPhone 4
--------Focus---------------HD2------------ Inspire ----------- iPhone 4 -----------Infuse
Marty, the picture that you chose to take isn't a very good sample. Any time you choose a very dark area with a very bright area right beside/behind it, your quality is going to suffer as the lenses struggle to find a focus point.

This isn't about the specific picture. It's about how the Infuse low-light picture quality compares to other phones. There is nothing different in the location of the Infuse picture from the other phones. They all were taken in the same location and the same time.
This shows the low light performance of the Infuse is exactly as I said it was.
The Samsung Focus is the obvious winner there, but I did notice that the other pictures were aimed slightly more to the left bright area which could affect the camera's contrast adjustment. Still the Infuse held up well otherwise.

The angle makes no difference. The angle is pretty much exactly the same. What is different, making the angle look different from each other, is the default zoom level. If they all had the exact same default zoom, they would look exactly the same for angle.
I agree, the Focus has the best low-light performance in this run of pics. But it doesn't have the best overall picture quality performance. That belongs to the iPhone. I can do another test proving this if prompted...I did one in the past between the Inspire, HD2, Focus and iPhone. Didn't have the Infuse back then. But the iPhone came out the best looking picture of them all. It was crisper, clearer and more detailed as well as having the best coloration.

If you take a picture to support a claim and then then say it's not about the picture, how are we to take the picture serious?
I get that you're not happy with the phone and that's cool. Have you tried another rom yet?

You're misunderstanding my meaning. It is about the pictures. It just isn't about only the pictures. The pictures speak for themselves. Take them how you want. But the Infuse does have the second worse low-light performance of them all. And I am not unhappy with my Infuse. I am unhappy with its picture performance.

The Streak was my first Android phone. Gf is currently using it as she enjoys the larger screen for reading books. I switched from the Streak to a Captivate because the Streak just got to be too bulky for me after a while. The Captivate seemed too small though so I switched to the Infuse and couldn't be happier. For me, the screen size is perfect. Not too big, not too small.
I'm running Infused 2.1.0 with Infusion 1.1 kernel overclocked to 1.6, and also applied the battery and performance tweaks from DynamicRam. My phone is snappy, has a beautiful display, no lag, and just has a great feel to it. Battery life is pretty decent. On an average day I only need to plug it up before going to bed. If I'm heavily using it, I may need to plug it up once in the early evening to get a little bit more juice. I also like that there's stable GB roms available. I tried some of the GB roms on the Streak and they just weren't doing it for me. Ended up going back to Streakdroid 1.9.0.
If I had to choose between the Streak and the Infuse, I'd go with the Infuse. I am obsessed with this phone. Loved the Streak, but in my opinion the Infuse blows it out of the water.
Hope that helps you a little!

I beg to differ. The angle makes a big difference. In this case, I daresay the biggest difference. The balance of dark area to light area will drastically alter the contrast balance in the photo. The camera will try to set the contrast balance to match the majority of the photo. If more of the photo of dark in the first picture than the others, the results will be difference.

I'm having a the MAJOR CONUNDRUM here, and I don't know what toooooo dooooo=(
Currently I have a Sammy Focus WP7, and I'm pretty happy with it, for the most part, but a vixen named: Samsung Galaxy S II 4G, has been driving me crazy for a while now!! The galaxy S II has:
1) A larger screen 4.3 inch. B) Focus 4 inch
2) A super amoled + screen. B) Focus amold, not+
3) Has an 8 mega pixel rear camera, and a 2 mega pixel front facing camera, (then I could do face chat messaging) B) Focus- Only 5 mp rear facing camera
4) It has dual 1.2 ghz processors. B) Focus- Single core 1ghz processor
5) It shoots in 1080p HD. B) Focus shoots in 720 HD .
5) Its ultra thin, and light.
6) 4G. B) Focus 3G
7) Comes in silver, (and black). B) Focus - Black only
8) Mobile Wi-Fi hotspot (connect up to eight Wi-Fi deices). B) Focus ??
9) It has Samsung AllShare. B) Focus - No
10) It has an HTML browser. B) Focus - IE9
11) It has Adobe flash, (**HUGE ASSETT**) B) Focus - No
12) It has Radio Remote PVR. B) Focus - No
13) It has 1Gb ram. B) Focus - The same I believe
14) I believe this model also has, "swype"
Now I have been a loyal Microsoft/Windows customer since the beginning, (literally), and I'm fond of my focus, but I really could use a bigger screen etc. Plus Android phones seem 2 come out often, where as WP7 is very slow with new models, & features, 2 be perfectly honest. But I don't know if I should make the switch, and leave WP7, because I am fond of it, but a guy has to have all these things.
So come on guys, rally together and let me know what you all think I should do, because I am very on the fence!!
THANX EVERYONE

The HTC Titan(WP7) and HTC Sensation XL(Android) are coming out. They both have 4"7inches screen. You can wait for them. Although it only has 480x800 res, but those who have them are saying its pretty. No one can really decide for you.
Get the Samsung Focus S. Problem solved.
Thanx for the replies guys, I really appreciate it =) The only thing I still see as an advantage is that the Galaxy II S has the duel processors, which is a huge advantage??
Sent from my SGH-i917R using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
WP7 is already fast and snappy with its single core processor.. why don't you wait for the samsung focus s? it has the same screen as the GS2 and camera too. and you get to keep the Windows Phone experience!
I'd imagine the only advantage of the dual core processor will be in apps and games
I am actually really tempted by the GS2 especially with Ice Cream Sandwich coming out soon.. might just wait for the GS3 or even get the Galaxy Nexus
But WP7 Mango is just so good and does everything I need (except for BBC iPlayer).. I may wait to see what "Apollo" brings before making a firm decision to stay or migrate
Why not just go to a store and spend a few hours fiddling with them. Specs are just specs. What matters is user experience. I think a few hours with a device will give you a whole lot more than reviewing specs. Most stores are fine with you playing with their devices, after all, they make money off of you buying their stuff. Why would they mind you giving their products so much time.
Thanx everyone for the suggestions, they were very helpful
1 - Only an 8MP camera
Nokia clearly set the industry standard with the 41MP sensor on the pureview. Anything under 30MP is just a joke now.
2 - Screen is simply a 720p Super Amoled instead of a 1080p Super Amoled PLUS
If i take a microscope to this phone i will see less pixels. And that makes me mad.
3 - 1GB of RAM? Seriously?
What is this 2011? I can't run GTA III, Gears of War, MW3, BF3, and Angry Birds Space simultaneously. This must be a faux-smartphone.
4 - It is too much like other successful phones
If it isn't completely different than its predecessors how will my friends know i got the newest model?
5 - Its made of plastic... Ew..
You mean if i drop this phone it WON'T smash into 100 pieces?..
6 - The voice function is too much like siri
You mean we have to use natural language to communicate with our phone now instead of robot talk? My lord what were they thinking.
7 - Exynos Quad Core Processor at 1.4 ghz
The One X already released with a 1.5 quad core processor. Clearly because it has more hertz than we do its better. What a shame.
8 - TouchWiz still looks like TouchWiz
Why would they take one of the best android overlays and make it better? Why would they add these features without completely changing it beyond all recognition? I want to have to re-learn to use my phone.
9 - The front facing camera is only 1.9MP
See reason from point #1
10 - Its ug-ug-ugly
A physical button that is easy to find instead of an awkward software button on the screen? How could they consider this? Is this a cruel joke?
In conclusion Samsung is now a laughing stock of the mobile world. This phone will not sell at all. Joke is on them! After this terrible product they will simply never be able to recover.
I get what you're trying to say, but no matter what you say the sgs3 is a let down. Same as the 4s. It's a galaxy nexus with a 8mp camera, definitely nothing hype worthy or phone of the year worthy (like the sgs2)
As an sgs2 owner, i am upset by how ugly the sgs3 is.
What if i want a black one?
I can ignore all but this is most horrible smartphone i've ever seen... Samsung u screw up this one.
I had used softkeys on my S2 (AOKP rom) and I have to say that it was much better, than using hardware buttons. I really don't understand why they are forcing hardkeys.
Pentile layout is not a bad thing because of "If i take a microscope to this phone i will see less pixels", but it has no proper white opposed to S2's real white-white of its S-AMOLED-Plus screen
agreed. 1 GB RAm should have been 1.5 or 2. Touchwiz still looks like Gingerbread, 1.9 MP ffc, round up to 2 more like 3 or go to an envelope pushing 5MP, we're all getting tired of grainy video chats anyways. In going with the "Nature theme" I would have liked to at least see a solar charging "option".
Im not buying anything under 5 inches anyway.
The post was entirely sarcastic... at least I would hope

My infuse has pissed me off enough and I'm looking to upgrade ASAP. I was looking at the note 2, but then I realized the ONLY upgrades are quad core and 2GB of RAM. Almost everything else is DOWNGRADED. Did samsung have pothead 12-year-olds on the dev team for this one?
Note: If you're going to read past this point you're not allowed to comment on how much I hate my Infuse. You live your life, I'll live mine, k?
I guess my question is should I just get the original note since it'll be much cheaper once they release the note 2, and I don't need a quad core?
I would get the note 2 if I wanted to but I don't want to kinda because when samsung does crap like this:
Development dies quickly
Nobody buys it
It ends up like the Infuse with the best xda devs quickly leaving for real devices designed by people that clearly understand what they're doing
When it loses xda dev support, it starts pissing me off like the infuse does
The original note would be a very good choice. It seems several people have used upgrades for the SGS3 and are very pleased. I have the international (quad core) SGS3 and will be keeping it for quite sometime.

What about the note 2 is a downgrade? Haven't really looked at the two in depth...but by a quick Google search it appears the only downgrade is that the note 2 has a 720x1280 resolution vs note 1 800x1280 resolution... but this is kinda expected when increasing screen size
Besides that most things seem the same or better...mainly the CPU and RAM
I don't see the note 2 being like the infuse because the note 1 was a huge success and still has a thriving dev community with some of the best devas
Plus being one of the first quad core, 2gb RAM, lte phones for Att...you can be sure it will attract the devs...only thing I can see making them leave the note 2 in the future would be for the sgs4...when ever that comes out
If you don't care about CPU and ram then don't get the note 2...stick with the note 1
But if your so concerned about dev community, why would you get a predecessor? Where the logic in that? Any of the big devs of the note will likely jump ship for the note 2...

.1mp is not much of a difference and likely won't be noticed (personally I rarely use the front cam anyways...)
I like 16:9 better then 16:10 anyways...it better for videos since that's what most HD videos are set to
PPI, again 20 isn't much...and likely won't be a noticeable difference
I personally would choose the note 2 over the note 1...but it really all comes down to personal preference
But still...you kinda make a big deal about dev life, so there is still no logic in choosing a predecessor over a new device if you want the best a good dev scene -as I said earlier...a lot of the note 1 devs will likely jump ship to the note 2
But again...all personal preference

I'll see what happens to the price of note #1 after #2 has been out for a day or two. If it goes to like $100 or $50 I'll definitely skip over the $300 PoS with $10 worth of hardware difference.
I'll be upgrading to the note II as well. I don't think you've done enough research if you are saying everything is a downgrade.. What exactly is a downgrade? In regards to decreased screen resolution, the subPPI went up and the screen is no longer RGBG. The US Note II's are also getting Exynos + LTE... Its also skinnier than the original note which isn't a bad thing.. IMO at least.
OK you've convinced me that it's a sidegrade.
You think it's worth $200 more (probably $100 on N1 and $300 on N2 for release) for 2 more cores (which still power many phones flawlessly) and another GB of RAM when Android has the best RAM management in the world?
side note: http://www.att.com/shop/wireless/devices/samsung/galaxy-note-carbon-blue.html note #1 has LTE too bud.
the rated ppi is deceptive. you are looking at pentil matrix rgbg vs real world resoloution. pentile matrix is a little weird they are geting away with high resoultion ratings by comparing it to crt tecnology. there are situations with different colors and contrasts that rgbg can create the number of lines it is rated as but it's not what is actually underlying. when you look at rgbg screens you may see a weird diagnal screen door effect depending on the colors on the screen since the pixels wind up being a little spaced out. high contrast stuff is not nearly as crisp, in effect text readability suffers. pick up an htc one x which has near iphone pixel density on an ips panel lcd and scale the text down till you can't read it, try the same on a gs3 which has a close enough screen size and the same rated resolution and you will see the ips is superior in this regard to the pentile matrix amoled. i would pick up an i777 gs2 before i got a gs3 for the size and i honestly think the i777 screen is clearer at the much lower resolution because the samoled+ is not pentile matris but thesamoled and samoled hd are.
also the older samsung devices are a 16:10 (i think this is what he tablets are, i dont feel like looking it up.) or 15:9 (most phones were this for a while) aspect ratio. this is good if the horizontal resolution is whole number scalable to hd video so there isn't a lot of estimations going on (1920x1200 would be ideal) because there is room for subtitles or the black bars just get bigger but it's often not. i'd look at horizontal res (in landscape) and compare it to common video resolutions over reading pixel count or density or vertical pixels or aspect ratio. and the .1 of an mp is nothing to worry about, i'd be more concerned about optics and firmware. i'm sure the pictures are actually improved.
about the dev community, right now the infuse is better than it's ever been. a lot of young talent is out there and guess what, they can't afford new phones, so yea dev drops off but it picks back up. if you want more dev buy a nexus or international device. the note 2 being exynos might see more dev as it may be more compatible with the international versions. i wouldn't worry about core count, watch the market, if the exynos 5 gets into a phone it's a dual core that runs with the ideal performance of the quad core, but the real world performance is much better since parallel processing isn't directly scalable. the snapdragon s4 chip (dual core) in the s3 and one x is also a beast. i'd be getting the most furture proof device. specs are almost meaningless since they don't relate to performance as directly as we would like them to.
in the end it's up to you, both great devices, the n2 will be more powerful but if the cost is a concern the n1 is still very good by any standards.
Yey finally an opinion I trust (ok I trust the rest of you but dani is an xda deity)

You hit the nail on the head with that one! The infuse has so many options and lots support! I wish mine didn't bork though -_-
First I will explain my story: I went from owning the SGS 1, then SGS 2 and then I bought a Droid DNA for something different, but someone stole it. Luckily a friend sold me an SGS 3 for very cheap. By the time I played around with the SGS 3, I realised why I was getting bored of Samsung to begin with. It's because of the screen. Yes it looks sharp and clear but the amoled screen was so fake and forced with saturation which my Droid DNA wasn't suffering from. Not to mention the SGS 3 seemed exactly the same as my SGS 2 only a different shape and size. It was quite frankly boring!
After my insurance company replaced my Droid DNA I could no longer use the SGS 3 because of these facts. I continued to use the Droid DNA for the following months and I can not fault it besides the screen being too small for me now, I have simply outgrown it. I have since sold all of my phones including the DNA to purchase a new phone. I automatically wanted the Note 3 because of the size and hardware and well known projected development but my main questions are:
Is the screen on the Galaxy Note 3 improved with life like colours in comparison to the SGS 3?
Is the camera going to be good enough without OIS?
If you want to know my other choices and reasons why I am considering them please look below. (Was going to include Sony Xperia Z Ultra but the camera has no flash and is only 8mp and the size form factor is too much for me)
My first choice (hoping the screen doesn't put me off)

Samsung Galaxy Note 3
Pros:
Biggest screen in a small chassis in comparison to any other phablet
Stylus might come in handy but I have never used one before
Has the best internals out of the competition Snapdragon 800/Adreno 330
Development support is massive for Samsung!
Massive battery
4K recording on specific model I am interested in
More RAM
Cons:
Amoled screens have always seemed boring to look at to me and everything seems fake, almost like a cartoon. I need to use the GN3 in person before I can be sure. They might have made it better than the SGS 3? - This is the main reason I am concerned about - My Droid DNA felt so lifelike and easy to look at)
Camera has no OIS (and apparently the auto focus is slow according to some reviews)
My second choice
Acer Liquid S2
Pros:
Screen appeals to me more as it is not amoled like the Note 3
6" display
Same internals as Note 3
Same battery capacity as Note 3
Highest contrast amongst my choices?
Better Front Camera than the other choices
LED Ring Flash (4 leds)
Cons:
Bigger than Note 3 and not sure if it is worth it for the size increase of the screen (TOUGH DECISION)
Has a slower clock speed at 2.2 instead of 2.3 in other Snapdragon 800 phones
If it is not a lot cheaper than it will make me lean towards the Note 3
Reflective screen might cancel out contrast levels outdoors
Not sure what development will be like?
My third choice (more information on release might push me to buy this phone)
Oppo N1
Pros:
Rotating 6 lens camera with F/2.0 Aperture
First Cyanogen Mod Integrated Phone
Duel LED Flash
Biggest battery of all of my choices
Back of the phone has a touch panel which I bet will become very customisable
Aluminium
Some images make it look like the phone is waterproof?
Cons:
Phone might be tooooo big
last generation internals Snapdragon 600/Adreno 320
My third choice tied (more information on release might push me to buy this phone)
HTC One Max ( Some specs might still be unconfirmed)
Pros:
Screen might appeal to me more as it is not amoled like the Note 3
Larger screen
Camera has OIS and might be great. (The HTC One camera didn't impress me too much however)
External surround speakers
Development has really started picking back up with HTC
Cons:
Physical size must be big considering the speaker layout and camera
last generation internals Snapdragon 600/Adreno 320
Another tied third choice (Price is so cheap it might make do)
LG Optimus G Pro (Was also looking at Note 2 but this trumps it in every way besides stylus/software which I am still unsure if I will use often enough and of course I prefer a non amoled screen)
Pros:
This phone is literally half the price as the note 3 costing me $450 vs $850 for the Note 3 (This phone might keep me going until a newer phone entices me and for half the price it is tempting)
Dolby mobile sound enhancement
Great sized screen
Big battery
Camera is better than average
The development is not tooooo bad
Cons:
last generation internals Snapdragon 600/Adreno 320
My fourth choice (most disappointing because screen is probably not going to be big enough!! but I love all of the other features. If this phone was 5.5" I would be getting it over anything else! I am so annoyed it has on screen keys and a smaller screen! - It's why I sold my Nexus 4 so quickly)
LG G2
Pros:
Screen appeals to me more as it is not amoled like the Note 3
Large battery for a small phone (not as good as the note 3 but the life should be close to the same as it has a smaller screen to power)
The phone is cheaper to buy outright by $200 dollars in my country in comparison to the note 3
Camera is outstanding - 4K record might be possible with firmware update - f/2.4 aperture and OIS has proven to take better images and video with the right settings in comparison to my other phone choices
Internals are the same as Note 3
Cons:
Screen is only a little step up in quality and size from my Droid DNA (especially if I choose to keep on screen keys active)
LG usually have little development support compared to Samsung
The button placement at the back makes the phone look weird and maybe awkward. I thought it was a camera lens cover when I first saw it
At the end of the day if the Note 3 didn't have an amoled screen and did have OIS I wouldn't be looking at other phones at all. Even if it just had a different screen it would probably lock me in to buying it. That goes the same for the LG G2 if it had a larger screen! To make a definitive decision, I need to use all of these phones in person but because I live in Australia, most of these phones aren't available to me. Makes it very hard to make a decision! I need to look at the Galaxy Note 3 screen and see if I can deal with the amoled, if I can I will buy it. It is released in Australia in 3 days for me to check out.
If I don't like the Note 3 screen, I will need to handle the Oppo, Acer and HTC One Max to see if I am comfortable with the size of them. If I am then I will buy whichever one I like better, the problem is these phone will probably not come to Australia anytime soon, if at all for me to test them so I can only go by user opinion!
If I am not completely happy with the Acer/HTC/Oppo size I will end up buying the LG Optimus G Pro for so much cheaper than the others and I will then look to replace it when I am happy with another phone even if the phone is lower spec, it has decent development and an upgraded screen size and quality over my DNA.
I also need to see the LG G2 in person to judge the screen size for myself, again the phone is not available in my country until November! and I will want to make a decision by then

Come on brotha, your posting in a Note 3 thread. That'd be like me going to a Republican rally and asking which is better: Republicans, Democrats, or the Green Party? lol

Lol, well at least you did your research I am a former amoled hater, I returned my galaxy nexus because of the crappy colors and green tint, so I understand your concerns. In seeing friends gs3 vs gs4 the screen is much improved and I find the colors more realistic, the colors on LCD being super saturated, and the blacks are miles better. I then played with a gnote2 for a few days before deciding if I wanted the 3 and the answer was a resounding yes, the screen was fantastic
Best way is like you said, to just wait until it reaches your country and you can see it in person. Amoled displays have vibrant over saturated colors, better viewing angles, better battery efficiency than LCDs, and better blacks. LCDs have better whites, better brightness and viewing eligibility under the sun, more realistic colors. See which benefits you like the most and get the phone with the corresponding screen.

I bought the Note 3 for its unparalleled stylus integration. (and screen size/beast-mode specs) It has no competition at this point in time (Although a few competitors are in the works).
FWIW, I think the Note 3's screen is gorgeous.
When you posted it here, you should have known the answer is skewed.
If Note 3 did not have so much restriction, it should have been my choice.

Not arguing, but what restriction?
Change the screen mode in settings to Natural and if it's still not to your liking try Movie. By default it's on Standard and can even be increased with Dynamic. Changing the saturation has been present in settings since the GS2, idk how people miss that one option that could end their complains. If that doesn't do it for you then the Galaxy line might not be for you.

Doesn't anybody use the movie mode or adobe rgb mode? Looks great in either mode. The galaxy series are on dynamic mode out of the box. Similar to how TV manufacturers and resellers put display TV's in this mode to stand out.

This is all personal taste, of course, but I find LCD screens more over saturated, and the sun viewing thing is overstated, while technically true, the reflections off the glass of all these screens makes it mostly mute. I've used my iPhone, iPad, friends galaxy devices, they all ultimately stink in direct sun
Thanks for the replies guys. I posted this here because amongst bias choices, people will still give me answers I want to hear. A lot of people buy the Note series for the stylus and software features alone, where these features are simply bonuses that I might use and not even close to the reason I want a large screen device!
If it wasn't for my need of the digitizer pen for documents there are a lot of strong contenders like LG G2 (especially the price <$200), Sony Z1, etc.

This is my point exactly. People can usually see the benefit of a stylus and that might play a huge roll in choosing the device! As this is not my primary concern I would choose the Z1 if it had a larger screen or The LG G2 if it had solid AOSP support; I guess I could make do with hiding the soft keys
I think this thread is a bit premature at the moment as there's too many unknowns about some of the other devices, the Acer looks potentially interesting but whether it's going to be worth considering will depend a lot on the price and how well it works in practice.
John
I have yet to see a note 3 in the flesh but colour rendition in the s4 is better than in the s3 so it may be an indicator of what to expect.

Knox (prevent rooting)
Regional SIM locking (this is a major issue for travelers)
Regional sim locking won't effect anyone. It's only meant to prevent people from purchasing phones out of their region.

It won't affect people who travel to other countries?
