Restore phone for warranty exchange - Motorola Triumph

Hi guys,
Recently the vibration feature on my Triumph stopped working, and i am thinking of sending in for warranty exchange. However, the phone is rooted and has a different recovery and rom than stock. Do I need to completely restore to bone stock before sending it in to Virgin Mobile, or do they even care? If so, can someone give me some hints on how to restore everything?

I've read that people say they have returned their phones to VM rooted and with custom roms and they've never heard anything from VM regarding that.
However, to be safe, I would at least put the stock rom back on there. You can flash this one from b_randon14 if you don't have a backup:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1260816
If you want to also put back the stock recovery, you can flash the stock recovery zip at the end of this post after you flash the stock rom above:

Thanks for the info and the links! I think i might just put the stock rom back on it and be done with it.

yeah wanting to do the same myself! ready to trade into that evo!

[Q] Trying to bring I9020A back to stock?

I am sending my phone back into samsung for repair, and I want to bring it back to its stock condition. I have unlocked the bootloader, flashed CW recovery, and installed superuser with no problems, however cannot seem to figure how to go into reverse. I understand how to re-lock the bootloader. I have read on the forums through the countless amounts of people asking this. I am however trying to use the ROM for the GTJ61 build found from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=13478981 When I try to use Clockwork Recovery, and go to restore, it states there is a MD5 mismatch. Am I suppose to install from zip or update from SD with CWR, or should I try to flash everything back onto there? I do not know what to do. Am I even trying to use the right ROM? The GTJ61 build is the original build that came on my phone, but would another one work?
follow this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033269
all you have to do is clear your data, flash the stock rom and stock recovery, and then lock the bootloader
Thank you very much. I figured it out. All I have to do now is destroy the evidence on my sd and seen my NS away.
I realize superuser is still alive and well after I did everything. How I would I get rid of it?
I just uninstalled it. it might have gotten restored when you logged in with your gmail account. did you wipe data and the cache with cwm before you flashed the rom?
edit: did the ots update to 2.3.4 install fine for you?
I am guessing you mean ota. I ended up using the 2.3.4 rom. Should I have used the 2.3.3? Yes I did clear out the cache and factory reset.

I did mean ota lol. my bad. where'd you get a 2.3.4 rom from?
edit: if you used the 2.3.4 rom from the thread you posted, just be aware that it isn't official. i'm not sure if the link I posted has the official rom, but you can download OTA updates with it so I would assume that it's pretty damn official lol
I don't know too much on the subject, but I'm afraid that since it is a different build in the link you suggested that I will mess up my radio settings. I don't know if it would make a difference but when I did install superuser it was from CWR and not adb from the command prompt. Do think I should use the 2.3.3 rom you suggested?

I don't know much about it either, but I would assume that you should put it on a stock rom if you're sending it back into samsung. I could be totally wrong though
I just am not sure if having super using on there would make a difference. They are suppose to do a wipe anyway. But I will contact them to make sure. It would still be nice to have superuser gone though.

I would guess that superuser would be one of the first things they check for to see if you broke warranty. you could just uninstall it and wipe everything through cwm again to make sure it's gone
I managed to fix everything. I just was searching through the system folder of the 2.3.4 rom and to my surprise there was little old superuser. So I deleted the .apk and bin files. After that I restored the ROM. Fixed everything. The stress of sending in a phone with superuser is gone and I am back to being stocked
Two questions for you OP:
1. How do you have a warranty on a I9020A? Is it the subsidized version from Best Buy (i.e. "AT&T's sanctioned model")
2. Why do you need warranty repair? What broke?
Yes I got my phone from best buy. I just registered the imei with samsung and I am under the 1 year warranty. I have a problem with my battery draining 80% in 6 hours little to no use with all radios besides 2g turned off. I know that the NS has not so stellar battery life, but there is genuinely a problem with mine. It cannot even survive for half a day.
Hmm, I had that very issue with three past i9020a's (two from Amazon, one white one from Newegg). They were all the Rogers model, which is said to be identical to the one Best Buy is selling as a subsidized model.
I just bought another i9020a on eBay (no, I never learn) and hope to try some fancy methods to save on battery life (ROMs, etc). I also experienced VERY slow 3G with the i9020a on AT&T's 3G network here in the US. Like 300kbs download slow. I read that if you flash the radio to KB3 it gets very fast, like HSPA 3G should be.
I don't care about rooting and flashing because my phone will not have a warranty. I do, however, suspect that there is nothing wrong with your phone, rather the battery life is just random. One of the i9020a models I had drained a fresh charge in like 3 hrs of sitting idle w/full bars. The phone was burning hot. I restarted it, charged it up, and it lasted over 16 hrs the next time. Very erratic and strange, but that seems to be par for the course with the NS.
I would first see if the phones you bought were registered yet. You never know when you would need samsung to take care of something for you. The correct radio for the US ATT is UCKE1. You should be getting data speeds of about 3.3 megabits. My battery has been consistently low.

So that may explain what's different between the international (i.e. Canadian) I9020A and the "Best Buy" AT&T sanctioned I9020A...a different radio?
Is it possible to flash the KB1 radio of the Canadian I9020A to the AT&T friendly UCKE1 radio?

International Rom? or NZ stock rom.

Is there an international rom for the Atrix 2 yet, ive flashed a few roms but they are all still loaded with AT&T stuff.
has ANYONE got a link to motorolas stock firmwares?
id quite like to flash back to my stock rom (telecome New Zealand)
if anyone can help me ill bow down
I don't think there's an FXZ for New Zealand yet.
This is why it's recommended to do a cwm backup before flashing new roms.
Daywalker04 might be the guy to go to to get fastboot files tracked down, though I think he needs some of the details about the system to find the fastboot files for us...
Hopefully there's another kiwi around here that can back up the system for you to do a restore.
Note that most of the AT&T stuff can be removed...
I'm kind of interested in the build numbers for Telecom NZ's Atrix 2 firmware.
Thanks, its not actually my phone, before the guy did a backup he used titanium backup to remove some stuff he didnt want, in his haste he deleted something that was related to contacts and he couldnt add contacts anymore, at that stage it was to late to make a CWM backup.
He flashed someone elses CWM backup but it went into a bootloop and wouldnt start at all, so he flashed a custom rom from here but it was AT&T and he couldnt get any service.
hes currently on rebel rom but desperately wants it back to stock (hes a 52 year old man) he was even gona go as far as paying a mobile repair site to fix it back to stock.
I realise this is now an old topic. But, here http://sbf.droid-developers.org/edison/list.php

[Q] Verizon Galaxy S3 Roaming Issue

Hello, this is my first time posting on the forums here.
Recently I flashed the latest version of MIUI on my Verizon Galaxy s3. I decided that I preferred my previous rom; Jelly Bean's Build 10, and I restored it to my phone. After restoring the rom, I got a message saying that I was roaming, even though I am still in the same area where service has been working flawlessly. The first thing I tried to do was change the network type under network settings to LTE/CDMA but that choice was already selected. Thinking that I had no other options, I restored the stock rom that I had backed up on my device and I got the same issue. Thinking I could just send the phone back to Verizon, I unrooted the phone using the built in unroot tool in SuperSu Pro. I am now unrooted, but forgot to reflash the stock recovery (I am still using TWRP). I am just wondering what I should do about the issue, and if I were to send it back to verizon, would they be able to tell that I have a custom recovery. Sorry for being a noob and any help would be much appreciated.
Update: I rolled back to my rooted stock ROM and I used triangle away to reset the custom flash counter. I have also reflashed the stock recovery onto my device. Even though my phone appears to be unmodified I still have the same issue.

there are SOOO many threads about how to fix the roaming issue it's not even funny....
^^^^^what he said!
This happened to me and what I had to do was ODIN to stock ICS rom and enter the code to reprovision sim. Google/forum search is your friend.
This is why Verizon locks down their phones! People who are not willing to search for a way to fix something that they screwed up is unacceptable. The bad thing is this phone is completely fixable with very little effort! Some people should not be allowed to flash anything!
I've dealing with so many issues ever since the DroidX so if there is one thing I've learned is there is ALWAYS a fix you may just need to do a little search if you can't find the resources your looking for on any of forums a simple google search will help you out.

[Q] Has this been tried?

So up until a week ago I was running CM11, but for the past month I was having battery issues so I decided to revert back to stock to test if it was the battery or the ROM. So I flash my phone back to stock and update to 4.4.2 knowing that I still had all the tools still available in case I wanted to flash back to CM11. Now today I wanted to flash back to CM11, but I wanted to make sure the methods were still correct to flash back to CM most concerning the bootloader, and to my dismay I found out that everything changed for the worse. On the bright side I was able to root my phone but unfortunately I flashed CWM recovery so now I can't get into recovery, but I can still access my phone so its not hard bricked to the point I have to JTAG, but my first question is how do I revert back to system recovery, I made a nandroid backup before I flashed the recovery but would that still work? And my second question is are there any ROMS you can install that allow you to run a custom recovery or allow you to flash back to 4.1.2? Either way, I'm glad I decided to double checks facts before proceeding or I would've had a bricked phone.

No custom recovery and no flashing back to 4.1.2. It is safestrap only and 4.4.2 touchwiz ROMs only, of which there is only one right now. Unless you are willing to send your phone to mobile tech videos and pay them $50. They are apparently ale to revert you're phone to 4.1.2.
You should have done a little more reading of all the warnings available in the forums before going back to stock and taking the update to 4.4.2.

Ok, that answers my second question, but is there anyways to reflash the stock recovery for 4.4.2?

There is if you can find one, but I don't think it's posted anywhere. Your best bet is to just Odin flash a stock 4.4.2 rom and start over again.

Can I flash Stock Rom via ODIN?

Hello everyone,
I know this looks like a pretty noob question, but I better be sure. Recently I took my S8+ to get its screen repaired at a Samsung Repair Center. Today I got an email stating that since my S8+ had an unofficial OS installed the main board would have to be swapped for a new one. I know thats BS, since I could totally flash a Stock Rom if I had the phone myself, and since the girl receiving my phone mentioned that they had "machines" that could return your phone to stock in minutes, I guess the would be able too.
I'm going to deny the main board swap, and ask them to flash stock if necessary and proceed with the repair.
In case they were unable or rejected to I'd like to flash stock myself, getting my phone back, flashing it with my laptop, and turning it in again.
What I don't know is if,
Does having a custom Rom prevent they/me from flashing stock the normal way? I have TWRP and everything, IDK if they/I need to take other measures.
Will I be able to just flash stock with just ODIN? The screen was destroyed, so I might not even be able to see what I'm doing. I guess is just getting the phone to download mode and flashing, but you never know.
Thanks in advance
