[Q] Sense 4.0 and Wifi? - HTC Sensation

Hey guys,
I have sen. xe and S-ON, unlocked by htcdev, rooted...and using elegancia 3.8 rom without any problem.
But in sense 4.0 roms, WiFi don't run, never switch on...
I have to be S-OFF to run WiFi for sense4 roms?

No you don't need S-Off to turn on WiFi.
You using the latest firmware?
There was a thread of other people having WiFi problems, might help to have a look in that. Should be in the 'General' sub forum.

Oh really? My firmware 3.32.401.105 within elegancia rom...

Have a look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1568509

boot.img is not flashed automatically with the ROM for HTC Dev unlocked devices, because HTC believes that flashing a custom Kernel, which will allow overclocking, will cause hardware problems that they are obligated to fix. Hence, the solution is to flash the boot.img manually or to enable smart flash (everytime) in 4ext before flashing a ROM.
Here is the right guide for you: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25587345
There is also an option of S Off, but I wouldn't advise it as it is unnecessary.

Yea, if u dont flash boot.img, u lock on first screen after flashing... I do that everytime on new rom flashing.
But WiFi newer switch on for only sense4 roms?

This is either Kernel related or firmware related. Look into both. try re-flashing or flashing another.

Ok heres the best aosp setup.
Virtuous inquisition 4.
For sense ics roms id go with mike1986 arhd 6.5.3 rom.
So what u need to do is root ur sensation
Supercid
Flash 4ext recovery. Its an apk and easy to do
Upgrade ur firmware to 3.32. Flash in bootloader.
Need mike1986 superwipe script
Rom of your choice.
Boot into recovery. Flash the superwipe. Then flash ur rom. Quick run down of what you need to do.
Skill required? Not much. The hardest part might be using adb and fastboot commands for the supercid. Other than that its easy as pie

thanks so much,so now the supercid i read up on it while requiring s-off and root thats alil confusing but ill read up on it again and the superwipe ive been seeing that on rom threads "flash superwipe" what is that and where would i get it?
and i need a big help,i tried upgrading my firmware to 3.32 and it said "wrong cid" "fail" now its stuck on the htc logo and bootloops help please :'(
Superwipe is down toward the bottom of OP of this thread. It leaves you with a very very clean phone. So no apps, no user data, no ROM. You'd want to have a nandroid backup at the very least before superwiping, as well as titanium backup for your apps etc. You just flash superwipe from recovery like a ROM (install .zip from sdcard).
Sounds like you've got hold of the wrong firmware for your CID. So you either need to know your CID (if you've got your head around adb and fastboot commands, "fastboot getvar cid" will get that for you) and find the right firmware, or supercid your phone so you can use any firmware. Go to this thread for firmware.
For your firmware there's a file,
android.txt, that has a list of CIDs. The T-Mobile CID usually isn't in it. If you do the superCID you shouldn't have to worry about it. Other wise you have to open the file located in the PGM581000 file and add CIDT-MO010 to the txt file. Either way make sure you delete the PGM file immediately after you flash it.
Sent from my HTC Sensation ICS 4.0.3 ARHD 6.5.3XE. Rockin'
Go to the dev thread for ROMs, ARHD is my preference. Good directions and all the files you need linked right there. Well most ROM threads are that way but this ROM and firmware are smooth and flawless.

This is misleading and not really true. First of all, VI is not true AOSP but Sense with most of the obviously sense parts removed. Secondly OpenSensation CM9 is hands down the best true AOSP rom and now that it has bluetooth and 1080p camcorder there's virtually no reason to use a senseless sense rom like vi.
to everyone that has tried to help me on this, THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH! giving me all the infos and quick break downs..
now i do have my phone up and running again but heres what i did..
when i learned that you need to upgrade your firmware to flash ics roms
i went to here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1412618 and i downloaded Firmware from 3.32.401.x & 3.32.401.10x RUU and renamed it to PG58IMG.zip i booted up to hboot and when it read the image file it said "wrong cid" "fail" i tried to boot up the phone normally after and it got stuck on the htc logo then bootlooped from there.. i did have a stock backup but flashing that over didnt work still had the same htc logo bootloop, i still had [ROM][Sense 4.0][MAR.25] OrDroid 1.7.2 | Fast & Stable saved to my sdcard so i tried to flash that to see what would happen and got the same result i then went to here.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767 and downloaded firmware 3.32 Unlocked and renamed it to PG58IMG.zip booted up into hboot it did its thing but this time it successfully flashed.. i booted the phone back up and the rom and phone successfully booted up completly. now im running on [ROM][Sense 4.0][MAR.25] OrDroid 1.7.2 | Fast & Stable as my rom and im just lovin it! but at this point im kinda scared to flash anything else as i do have it booted up i dont wanna mess anything up again lol

CID is carrier identification. The thread you downloaded your T-Mobile firmware from contains firmwares for a variety of CIDs, in other words, specific to whichever carrier your phone came from. SuperCID removes that form of 'branding' and allows you to flash any firmware file, if you look through the list of firmware they can all be flashed to a device with CID 11111111. So essentially we superCID for convenience.
SuperCID has no bearing on what ROMs you can flash, the only consideration is that a particular ROM will require a certain firmware, eg. ICS ROMs need 3.12 base or higher.

Almost. SuperCID and custom recovery you can do no worries. Firmware upgrade will depend on what stock ROM is currently installed, if you flash firmware that your stock ROM isn't compatible with you will get bootloops and most likely have to downgrade. So personally I wouldn't be looking to upgrade firmware until you intend to flash a ROM that requires it. At that point you'll want a custom recovery anyway so it won't hurt to install that now.

Thanks. I'm currently on the T-Mobile Sensation 4G stock ROM S-Off/Rooted. Will going to the 3.32 firmware wipe the stock ROM or cause bootloops for sure?
I also have ClockWork Recovery from a really long time ago. Using ROM Manager to flash a new recovery (trying to update) does nothing. Why does that happen? Perhaps my recovery is too old?

I'm would assume your 4G would already be running ICS? In which case you probably already have up-to-date firmware installed. The firmware update generally applies for people coming from GB to ICS. Go to Settings/About Phone/Software Information/More/Build Number and see what numbers you have there.
Flashing firmware will not wipe your ROM, the worst that will happen is bootloops if the firmware and ROM aren't compatible.
The recovery you have now shouldn't stop you from flashing a new one, instead of using ROM Manager try downloading 4ext from the Play Store and see how that goes.

HBOOT compatibility

Hello!
I am pretty new in the Android Custom ROM area so that's why I need some help with informations.
I am the proud owner of a Desire S, that I have installed a custom rom (Virtuous something) some time ago. Not me, a friend. Now I want to try some new roms that have Sense 4. But i have a problem, i don't know if a rom is compatible with my HBOOT (which is 2.00.0002). I would like to install SenseMOD FlashOne but i can't see anything regarding my HBOOT.
So firstly, is it compatible?
And secondly, what would happen if the HBOOT is not compatible and I would flash the ROM? Will it turn into a HTC Brick?
And if it's not compatible, what ROM would you recomand that has Sense 4 and working WiFi, camera, etc ?
Virtuous something http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1590718 is a full sence 4.0 ROM

I see that you have the same hboot as mine, can you tell me what rom do you have?

If you're phone is s-off and you have a custom recovery installed (4ext, Cwm or similar) all you have to do to install a new rom is,
1. put the rom (zip file) on the sd card
2. boot into recovery
3. backup your current Rom
4. do a full wipe (format all except sd card if you're using 4ext), sometimes it works just wiping cache and dalvik cache, if updating from an earlier version of the same rom (read the op)
5. Flash rom
Edit: flash gapps, if not included in Rom (most cm/aosp based roms)
6. Reboot
Actually, u can update ur hboot to latest and forget about it)

Sometimes developers says when it needs to upgrade hboot in description, so if you keep watching on updates, it's hard to miss it) and as a secret of a succes to upgrade everything) but sometimes its hard, for example, BND can fix smth every day, and it's really annoying)

[Q] Stock HBoot to replace JB HBoot

Hello all,
So finally, I have managed to S-OFF my phone using JuonoputBear (I never get this spelling right!). Downloaded the latest version for Ubuntu and can't believe I only did the wire trick once and it was done.
But anynow, to my surprise, the JB tool went on installing the JB hboot itself. Initially I thought it would ask me to install it or not and I would refuse it but... it didn't even give me the option. So now I am stuck with the JB hboot which I dont want.
So the questions is, is there any way I can revert back to the stock hboot?
Thanks guys, all your help made it possible for me to S-OFF my phone.
Regards
just to know that with patched hboot you are fully unlocked and you can use all fastboot commands
i don't find a reason to return to official hboot

Thanks for the reply. The reason I wanted to go back to stock hboot was that its highly unlikely that I would be using those extra fastboot commands. Besides, I dont like the Juoponutbear logo on top of the hboot.
Also, now that I am S-OFF, I am kind of gone sensitive to installing any ROM. I intend to install Android Revolution HD ROM but I dont want to flash anything wrong on my device like Radio etc. I only want to flash whats need to run that new custom ROM. I guess that doesn't include the kernel as I already have ICS stock ROM.
Can anyone point me to the right direction? Where I can find the steps to install custom ROM without any risk of flashing something wrong?
Thanks.

Hi,
There is no way you can "Accidently" install a radio.
You are not in bootloader for any length of time normally,so ,it should not matter what is written at the top.
That is just the way Juoponutbear operates and leaves it's mark.
It is the only way to s-off for you,so ,you are stuck with it.
Unless you s-on again.
As for flashing ROMS,put it on the root of your sd card, choose zip, install zip.
That's it.
EDIT:
Someone correct me if I am wrong.
If you flash Kohr-Ah's Universal 3.33 firmware, does it say Universal at the top?

Is that all? I thought that once you have flashed the zip package, you have to extract the "boot.img" from that zip package of the ROM and flash it separately?

Sorry I had to come back on this one. I was checking the Android Rev. HD thread and in the download section it said it is necessary to flash new firmware package before flashing this ROM/ And the firmware package also contains radio flashing.
Since I am on Stock ICS at the moment and my firmware is 3.32. Do I still need to flash my firmware?

Custom roms with s-on are very unlikely to brick your device.
For a sense 4.1rom try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671547. Venom has released a jb version too.

Hey,
firstly,
Revelation is not a sense 4.1 rom...it is android 4.1.1 with sense 4+ ( there is a huge difference...google it)
For a Sense 4.1 rom go for
VIperS or Elegancia for best features
and Inspiration rom by @ivicask for best stock experience
For a Sense 4+ rom with JB go for ViperS JB for the features
or Revelation by @SebastianFM for the stock experience (in my opinion Revelation is one of the smoothest roms I have seen so far...you wont be disappointed)
As far as flashing is concerned....most roms mention S-Off as a requirement....But you can flash them with S-On as long as you have 4Ext recovery with smartflash enabled...
Just flash the rom in recovery and 4ext does the rest
Although 4Ext Smartflash isn't working perfectly yet with Sense JB roms...but the solution for that is fairly simple
After flashing the rom on your phone
just unzip the rom on your pc...go to kernel folder and find boot.img file...put that file in the folder where you have adb
put device in fastboot mode and connect usb...start terminal and
...then simply flash the boot.img file using
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot reboot
it will work.

So, do you think it is better to have s-off first rather than s-on? I also think about that, but juopunutbear guide to get s-off is very hard and confusing for me to understand.
Besides, juopunut beer tools files for windows have been removed from that sites. Perhaps you could email me or post link for that flash file for windows. I'm using win 7.

S-off is needed if you need to change your firmware (hboot/radio etc) or supercid. As long as you are on 3.32.xxx.xxx/3.33.xxx.xxx firmware, you will be able to flash any ics/jb roms easily with s-on.

Wow, really. Do you sure it won't brick my device. If you're sure, then i no need to get s-off my device.

You have a higher chance of bricking if you're s-off (if that's what you're concerned about). Like I said, it's highly unlikely you'll be able to brick your device as long as you're S-ON.

I flashed a jb rom s-on with 4ext. Worked fine. I doubt it'll be a big issue, (how will android version affect a flash?)

I meant not working perfectly in the sense that for Sense JB rome, you need to flash boot.img from adb separately...
otherwise it works perfect..

Yes flashing roms with S-On with 4Ext recovery Will not brick your device...just enable smartflash
it only has a slight problem with ViperS JB...where you need to flash boot.img separately
@murtazasamiwala
Thanks again broo.
I decide to flash Revelation JB Rom. After 4ext finish install and ask reboot. But stuck with white screen with htc logo. For ten minutes nothing happen. Then i extract boot.img from zip file, flash manually with adb fastboot. Guess what? It works bro...
Finally, i can enjoy my new face of sensation. Still testing whether any bug or not working program. Btw, thanks to all help from other member here.

Nope, i use Revelation JB with sebastian kernel.
Have re-flash it twice but problem still same. I think it is rom related/unstabill. So, i restored my previously old rom backup( stock ics rom), and every thing goes normal. Perhaps tomorrow i'll download another sense 4.1 rom and try again. Anyway, JB rom if it work normally and stabil maybe more fascinating than ICS rom.

[Q] bricked sensation xe, help

Hey i bricked my htc sensation xe while trying to get the Android 4.1.2 Viper S 3.1.2 Jelly Bean Custom Firmware rom. I followed this tutorial:
cannot post links because im new here sorry, its the first link when you google "vipers 3.1.2 sensation techbeasts"
this is my current situation: when i try to start the phone the green htc sign appears for a few seconds, then the screen turns black and nothing happens. i can access bootloader, fastboot (it connects to my computer) and i can access the recovery menu. when i open bootloader
this information appears:
*** unlocked ***
pyramid pvt ship s-on rl
hboot-1.29.0000
eMMC-boot
Mar 2 2012,18:14:34
this is how it happened: around 10 hours ago i had a completely stock htc sensation xe with Android 4.0.3. Because of perfomance issues
and my need to costumize stuff (years ago i had a jailbreaked ipod touch 2g and it was fun costumizing skins and adding tweaks ) i decided to
install a custom rom on my sensation xe, and i found the vipers 3.1.2 rom online. so i found a simple looking tutorial (link in introduction) to install it. i oversaw the little note that i need a ROOTED sensation and just started following the tutorial. after running into small problems i found out that i have to unlock the phone, which i did successfully with the htcdev website. after flashing the boot.img i was told to reboot the phone and it blackscreens after the htc logo ( it doesnt even show the quietly brilliant part ). its still not rooted by the way.
now i need help from someone, i am completely inexperienced with androids and would like to get my phone back to running, preferably with vipers 3.1.2 .my ideas are to either get it back to stock rom and try the tutorial again (this time with rooting it first ) or maybe to just root it now somehow and to carry on with the vipers rom installation. but i dont want to just go ahead and try it out and maybe hardbrick it. can somebody please help me out and tell me what to do?
You need to install custom recovery and flash a rom of your choice through recovery. The part with flashing boot.img comes after flashing the rom if your phone is not s-off.
Try finding some tutorials for all of the things I told you.

The first thing you need to do is to download an RUU rom for your senny, The n we could go through next step which would be installing it on the senny

your bootloader is already unlocked..then like what nlooooo said in the previous post.. you just need to installing custom recovery choices what ever you want from 4EXT, TWRP or CWM then after that you can installing any custom rom that you want..off course you need always to flashing that rom boot.img too after every installing new custom rom..
hope this can help..
