[Q] Desire S Stuck on HTC Boot Screen - HTC Desire S

Hey Guys,
Sorry if this seems like a re-post but i really cant get my head round what i have done...
Had my phone for a good few months, and thought i would have a stab at rooting my phone, seen as though i have just jailbroke my girlfriends Iphone 4s..
I followed this guide;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525100
Completed everything, however i think i messed up where it says
"Wipe every cache you can find in EXT4 recovery and format EXT3 to EXT4.
Go back to main menu in EXT4 recovery and select ''install from sdcard'' select ''Reaper_V2.1.ZIP''. After the rom is installed turn your phone off again."
has when i tried to boot my phone after completing the process, it just sticks at HTC screen.
Tried to do a recovery but there is no files found...tried installing another rom and nothing changes.
Also tried factory reset and its the same process
when i open the recovery menu my details are as follows
**** UNLOCKED ****
SAGA PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-2.00.0002
RADIO-3822.10.08.04_M
eMMC-boot

Could anyone if possible either give me a noobie guide to restore my phone back to factory out of the box settings
or a noobie guide has to install a working rom so I can at least get my phone past the boot screen...

your phone is missing the bootup file.
hop u have the adb drivers in ur pc
jus open the rom.zip and xtract the boot.img file and push it to ur phone using adb
fastboot flash boot boot.img

Yea i have all drivers installed,
would i have to place the desired rom in the root of my sd card?
then use the cmd fastboot flash boot boot.img??
i'll have to download one i think as i deleted the old one i used which basically ruined my phone
ps how would i flash it by using adb? i have like 3 files in the folder i rooted with saying adb
Ive just tried reflashing using cmd fastboot flash boot boot.img and nothing, its still hanging on HTC screen
Its really starting to p*** me off ha

do you think i have bricked my phone?
I'm usually pretty clued up on jailbreaking and modding things but this phone has just tested my patience more than i care to think about haha

get wat ever rom u want to install
place the rom in ur sd card jus install it the way u normally do
then on the pc open the rom.zip xtract the boot.img file place it in ur android folder (folder which has all the adb filies)
open command prompt and go to that folder eg cd c:/android
and then on ur phone u can turn it off and boot back to bootloader holdin down volume and power ul see fastboot press power again and connect the usb it will read fastboot usb
now go back to pc and on cmd type
fastboot flash boot boot.img
it will push the file to ur phone n i think u should be done... restart it

could anyone point me in the right direction to a good stable rom?
i'll try your method when i get back from football amuzz
hopefully it solves my headache

Cyanogenmod 7.2 is the most stable I have used
Primo-S v4.0 is pretty good if your looking for an ice cream sandwich experience with HTC Sense.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1545558
I haven't had any problems with it at all, a few bugs here and there but nothing to worry about, and the battery is pretty decent as well.
I am sure there are many others.

ok installed that primo rom,
installed sweet, no problems, however in the zip file there is no boot.img for me to
use via cmd??
tried googling it but cant seem to find it at all.
Any ideas?

it should be inside the rom jus try and see under the kernel should be thr

Amuzz, you sir are a F****** LEGEND...
Its defo not there so i installed a ROM called Saga3D just to get my phone up and running...
Installed the ROM via SD Card, flashed the boot.img via ABD...it hung on the Saga3D screen for about a minute...
WALLAAHHHH...back in business
all i need to do know is find a rom with a good theme that changes the icons and stuff like that, coz HTC icons and themes are s*** haha
Kudos and thanks to the pair of you )))))))
One more thing though, if i was to install another ROM, would i have to do the cmd thing everytime or is there a much simpler way? like installing it through the phone itself via the sdcard or something...
I've seen this app called rom manager??
PPS: the boot.img is in the kernal folder DOH!!

The Primo boot.img is located under kernal > saga, make sure you don't select ace

your well come.
well as per wat i now if ur S-ON normally u have to xtract the boot.img file and push it thru adb. and all roms have the boot.img file. i use to do this all the time with my HTC EVO 3D.
enjoy ur phone ...

Yea, i installed that miui v4 rom has i seen it on youtube and it looked rather cool, with easily changeable interfaces and custom themes etc...however it doesnt allow you to import your sim contacts...regardless what you try
shame really has it looks a really cool rom, except not everything is in english ha until you install it
I'm going to try cyanogen rom a think or LeeDroid see how they are
I've got a working rom backed up so its all good if it doesnt work

I also did the same. the phone started at first after installing rom but then i restored the data from titanium backup and rebooted the phone and now its again stuck on boot screen and i even tried to flash boot again but its not opening

[Solved] almost bricked mt4g. please verify my next step

First, let me say thanks to all who contribute. I started with a G1 when it first came out, using the JF mods and lurking these forums for hours. Without you guys, we'd all be stuck with boring stock devices!
Heres my question:
I've done a search and just want someone to verify my next planned step.
Tonight I think almost bricked my Mytouch 4g. I had root, and had CM6.1.2-RC2 installed. It was working great.
Then I wanted to get the CM7 nightlies working. I couldn't get the CM7 rom past the mytouch splash screen. So, I upgraded Rom Manager, and thought i had to upgrade ClockworkMod to 3.0 to get the CM7 nightly rom to boot. I accidentaly flashed the wrong ClockworkMod Recovery. I flashed the file that was for a G2 (vision). Rebooted without noticing my mistake, than noticed my error when I couldn't get into recovery mode.
Fortunately i installed Hboot during the rooting process. I'm planning on letting Hboot flash the file mentioned in this post to get back to stock:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10514066
What do you think?
Just don't want to get myself in deeper S...
Thanks again.
connect the usb and run adb. Boot into bootloader and flash the recovery 3.0??? that way. You'll be good to go after that

You can connect adb with the bootloader? I ran:
Code:
adb devices
and adb came back with no devices found.
How do I flash the recovery if adb has nothing to communicate with?
BTW, I'm using Hboot Engineering, and Hboot does recognize the usb connection by displaying: HBOOT USB PLUG
fastboot devices
fastboot devices
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
SOLVED
Thanks for trying to help osugsxr. I will have to read up on fastboot.
However, I did not follow your advice. I didn't get your reply in time to try fastboot. My impatient ADD personality went ahead and followed the advice in the thread that I referred to in my original post. In an effort to help others who may have gotten into a jam, heres what I did:
1. Took out my SD card and connected it to my PC via external SD card reader.
2. Because I had a ton of crap on the SD card, I formatted it FAT32 to have a clean card.
3. Downloaded the stock Glacier rom (A large 315mb file. Should have a filename like PD15IMG_Glacier_TMOUS_1.17.531.2_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_M_release_155771_signed.zip)
4. Copied the stock Glacier rom to the SD blank card.
5. Renamed the rom to PD15IMG.zip (maybe case sensitive, not sure)
6. Unmounted/Ejected the SD card from the PC reader an put it back in my phone.
7. Pulled the battery on my phone for about a minute then put it back in.
7. Hold volume down and the power button at the same time.
8. Hboot should start up, then after a few moments it will say loading PD15IMG.zip. After PD15IMG.zip loads, it will ask you "Do you want to start update?". Press VOL UP for Yes.
9. You will then see Hboot working its way down a list of about 9 items. Be patient, this takes a while. After this is done, it will say so, and tell you to press the power button to reboot.
Hopefully you have successfully flashed the stock rom, and your phone will be back to what it was like when you first bought it.
I attached pictures of the Hboot screen and flashing process for reference

[Q] Rooted with Rev, perm S-off. Bad recovery install???

Hello, everyone. I'm brand spankin' new here and have what could be either a complete brain scrambler or a newb screwup. I searched everywhere and could not find a person in a similar situation, so please don't tell me to utfse, unless you have a special magic search engine from the future where the HTC Doubleshot has already been fully hacked and pimped out.
Anyway...
I successfully performed the permanent root and s-off procedure with Revolutionary.
Now, when I went to flash the clockworkmod custom recovery image for it, I got a successful installation message, but when I booted with volume down+power select recovery, it goes to the mt4gs splash screen and stays there. I have to pull the battery out and boot normally, because I can't flash a new image through recovery. I tried flashing from the clockwork mod rom manager under several similar devices, update.zip method and flashing it from fastboot in ADB and flashing it from the Terminal app, but to no avail. Is there another way to flash either a new recovery image or revert back to the stock recovery?
Re-flash recovery until it works from hboot. No chance of brick if you aren't flashing the hboot.
Also, give it a few minutes at the mytouch splash.
I tried it again. Waited 30 min, no luck. Is there another way to flash the image? When I tried it through adb it said the image couldn't be found or didn't exist, even though I had it in both the root folder and the sd card. When I tried it in terminal, it didn't recognize my command to flash_img.
Get cwm fro here http://android.modaco.com/topic/343...e-mytouch-4g-slide-unofficial-modaco-edition/
then use fastboot:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery doubleshot.clockworkmod.4.0.0.9.modaco.img
When I enter the command in adb it gets stuck on "waiting for device". I installed the htc device driver already and when I hit adb devices it comes up.
in adb ????
You should be in bootloader to run fastboot commands
How do I enter the command in the bootloader? When I select fastboot it gives me the option to reboot, go back to bootloader or reload bootloader. I can't get into the recovery menu, it freezes at the splash scree. Is there any way to flash clockwork onto it without having to go through the currently installed recovery?
Oops, nvm. Got it now. Thank you so much, all of you!
Ok, I have another question. Now, this one IS a stupid newb question. When I first rooted it, I got a little uninstall-trigger-happy, and deleted the htcsense3.0 launcher from my device. I know, I know, I'm retarded. But the good thing is I backed it up in Titanium backup before deleting it (also deleted it from TB). When I realized what a fool I was (after my home screen wouldn't come up0 I worked around it by holding the camera button and accessing the quick settings menu from the notification bar. I then Hold the Genius button and open the market, go to my apps, and open Titanium backup from there. I never thought I would say this, but thank god for the Genius button??
So, I've tried installing the .apk file from the sdcard in several different file manager apps, but with no luck. Is there a way I can force it back into it's original directory instead of reinstalling it?
I just installed launcher pro, but I'd like to eventually get back to the HTC sense launcher, however bulky and annoying it may be.
Thank you all for your help, you've been very helpful and not in the least bit condescending. I look forward to contributing to this forum.

here's a link to download the stock ROM. It will reinstall everything for you including HTC Sense and whatever, and the good part is you don't have to erase data before installing, just download and install via recovery and you'll have everything back! Assuming, of course, that you can access titanium backup and unfreeze what you need.
That rom worked perfectly. Thank you.

[Q] How to revert back to stock everything without root on GT-i9020T?

How do I revert back after one-click root to the stock everything including radio, rom, build, etc. I am currently running Cynagon mod RC1 7 and have had numerous issues, I would just like a clean, simple cut answer so I can give this to someone for the holidays, any help would be mightly appreciated, as i've asked this in the past and can never seem to get a clear cut answer, thanks.

Just flash a full rom, it should restore the radio, the recovery, and the OS. Then do a reset to factory defaults if you are paranoid.
Get the proper rom for you phone here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1063664
If you're on T-Mobile, you have an i9020-T, this should work for you. It is the full 2.3.6 image.
http://android.clients.google.com/p...a25375426.signed-soju-ota-189904.1ada2537.zip
Is this also working if you're coming from stock unrooted ICS 4.0.3 ?
And
Is there any risk of loosing IMEI if you're going full ROM ?

I have reverted back from 4.0.3 yesterday by reflashing the full 2.3.6 rom without any issues. I'm not sure I understand what you mean by losing IMEI.
My phone works just fine after doing this (more than once!).

Ok here's my problem i did the ics update earlier before you told me this and still having issues, now when I go to recovery I get a android with his chest open with a red caution sign on it...how could I just format everything, essentially make it the way it was out of box so I could start over...because of all the issues I'm currently having.
When you get to that point, you need to hold down power then press vol up. Then you will be able to flash the zip. You need to put the zip on the phone first though, unless you have CWM recovery, in which case you can mount the sdcard section and move it across then, and flash it after.
OK thanks...Just please let's summarize this
1.You were on I9020T bone stock , unrooted
2.You had GB 2.3.6
3.You updated manually (or OTA) to 4.0.3
4.You decided to revert to GB 2.3.6
5.You used exactly the same method of manual update (stock recovery after copying the .zip file and in this case the full ROM of 2.3.6 to SD)
6.You followed the stock recovery steps and chose the .zip 2.3.6..
7.After everything was setup , you booted into GB 2.3.6 without any problems
Is that right ? or better if you make the exact detailed steps you did to revert to GB 2.3.6 would be apreciated
Thanks

how would I go about flashing the custom recovery? I tried to flash another full rom package with the recovery in it and like i said i got that error...
Do you have a folder in windows where you have been flashing stuff from, using fastboot?
If so, just get this recovery image http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=988686
Download either the blue or green 5023 image. Doesnt matter which just changes colour of mod place the file in the same folder as the fastboot.
Next, with the phone off and after attaching the phone to USB, turn it on while pressing vol-up and power. You should see the boot option screen, the fastboot screen. Leave the phone there.
Now go back to cmd window in windows, and browse to the folder where you have all the fastboot files and where you have put the above image file. Then type in the following:
fastboot flash recovery <image name.img> (without the < >)
press enter and it'll flash the recovery and then you can install the old version of android

I don't believe I have a folder as such, being a person who is not familiar with the lingo, etc of all this i rooted it with one-click mod, and just flash things through this, are you saying I can flash things externally? sorry to sound like a bum, but i'm trying to understand thanks.
No problem, we're all noobs once, hell i still am and only just coming to terms with it all! Just need to do a bit of researching, but heres the basics...
fastboot lets you flash stuff to the phone from windows, when the phone is attached to the USB and is in fastboot mode (just turned on, from vol-up/pwr).
Can unlock the boot loader and flash recovery images from there. Once thats done, most other stuff can be done from within the new recovery mode, clockworkmod being the one that everyone uses.
over at nexusshacks it's explained really well how to root your phone. And he provides a zip with everything you could want. That zip is the folder I was talking about in the last post. It comes with drivers to install when you first plug the USB in and the PC recognises the phone. Download the pack, install them drivers and then go back to my last post and take it from there
http://downloadandroidrom.com/file/NexusS/rooting/nexussrootnew.zip
EDIT: Also do a full wipe/data reset just before you flash the new rom

I'm using clockwork right now, but it seems to be corrupted, im running 4.0.3 right now on a full rom package, so your saying I should still do this? I think i may have done all that before, as the phone is rooted, but I used the one-click method instead.
Just download that file and then you'll have what you need on your pc to do what i mentioned above. Plug the phone in and reflash the new recovery which will not harm it, and then you'll be able to stick gingerbread or ICS back on. You gotta try things out otherwise you'll not understand what is going on. I dont know of any one click thing that will let you go back to default as it was before. After it flashes the new recovery, scroll down to "recovery" on the screen and press the power button, dont restart the system.
In hindsight, while the one click methods are easy to use, theyre getting used by people that dont do the necessary research to learn about the rooting and flashing process. This means you end up skipping so much that you learn about the whole rooting and flashing proocess when doing it manually, which in turn means you have more trouble getting out of it if you want it back to the way it was! No offence intended here, but you just need to man up and do it! All will be well

ROM won't boot, can't get to recovery, only bootloader

I was running the Hypernonsense ROM and wanted to try a diff kernel. I flashed the newest faux kernel and now it's stuck at the first boot screen.
I do a battery pull and can voldown + power and get to the bootloader, but the problem there is that it sees the latest 3.32 P58IMG update on my SD card every time and won't let me select any other options. I can flash that over and over, but it's still sticking at the first boot screen, doesn't make it to the ROM's bootup screen.
Delete PG58IMG.zip.
Hang on, isn't Hyper-non-Sense ROM based on ICS? Faux's kernel's are only for Gingerbread based ROMs. Reflash the ROM to restore the 'stock' kernel.
help please

How do I get to a point where I can delete the IMG file or reflash...it's just "stuck".
take the sd card out,
boot the phone into the boot loader
go to recovery
it will start counting down or whatever looking for the sd card
put the card back in
it will see the sd card
it will continue on into recovery
connect to pc
mount usb in recovery
delete img file
reboot now if you like everything will be back to normal
* i believe this will also work if you put the sd card in after the bootloader is loaded before you go to recovery, the card just needs to be not present while the bootloader is loading. i believe it checks the card when it loads the bootloader, but after the bootloader comes up you can put the card back in then proceed to recovery

Ok, I was able to have it plugged into my laptop, voldown+power until I heard windows "bing" like a new device connected.
Then I went to a command prompt where I have adb installed and ran
adb devices
To make sure it was connected and it was. Then I ran
adb reboot recovery
And now I'm back to 4EXT recovery...phew, was getting worried. Gonna super wipe and install a new ROM.

Hi,
What is the problem?
Hello malybru,
Yesterday my device got stuck and I couldn't boot up and I could not access recovery.
I than found these steps that would allow a Mac user access to adb and fastboot.

Thank you

[Q] Anyway to root and install roms without a microsd card?

Apparently I just have tons of regular SD cards laying around and none of the micro variety. Ive rooted and put custom roms on 6 phones and kindle fires in the last two weeks so it seems a bit strange that this device would be the only one that would be different, but everything ive been able to read uses a micro card. Any info would be really appreciated. Thanks! (using US wifi board by the way)

You sure can.
Unlock the boot loader, ( note doing so will wipe all data from your device )
Reboot into android download a ROM and place on internal memory.
Fast boot flash a custom recovery ( see my SIG for twrp recovery for xoom)
Boot into the custom recovery ( see my SIG for my YouTube videos, there is a quick video on how to enter recovery)
Once in twrp recovery select install and the flash your ROM from internal memory.

I used The Lord all in One tool to unlock the boot loader. Im pretty sure that worked, device was seen and after it rebooted its like a completely wiped machine.
Now, then I reboot into recovery all i get is the green droid on its side with the warning triangle. I went to the TWRP post in your sig and there are 4 different install methods. I cant get any of them to work, but I havent tried option 2 because I dont have any idea how to use the adb commands. The windows script adb never sees my device although the LAIOT adb script does. I guess Im stuck on how to get TWRP onto this damn thing.

download this zip Install_Scripts_v2.3.3.0.zip - 10.03 MB
and extract
open your cmd ( command prompt )
cd ( change directory to where you extracted the above zip)
now connect your tablet to pc,
from the cmd type
Code:
adb devices
ensure that your pc sees your device, should read out sn#
now click the runme.bat
and follow onscreen instructions.
once the recovery img has been flashed ( you can verify on the xoom's screen.)
from the runme.bat select option 3 to reboot, you MUST reboot straight into recovery ( again see video for video steps here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=koxgbdQuzOQ ) and flash rom, if you dont catch the boot process in time it will boot into android, and the custom recovery you just flashed will be replaced by the stock android recovery, and you will need to repeat the whole process. after you flash the rom your custom recovery will stick and you will be good from here on out
Hey, thanks for all your help. I finally got it going, and im really glad I wont have to do all of that stuff again, but your help was greatly appreciated.
