[Q] Helllooo.. Total Newbie on here - HTC Sensation

Heeellllooooooooooooooooo,
I'm totally new on here so please excuse me ...
I've a HTC Sensation 2710e but its NOT rooted for the time being...
So which guide should I use to get the phone rooted (theres so many out there!!)???
Thanks
macdadi112

Hi and welcome! First thing you need to do is find out your hboot version. Their are different proccedures for different hboots, thus the reasons for the many guides. Once you find your hboot then we can help finding a guide. Too find hboot you can power volume down at same time this will boot you into a menu, you will see the information you need written above menu. You can also access by pulling battery out, replace battery volume down power at the same time. You can read your hboot then also. Really hope this helps you out! Once you know hboot you can take it from their.
Or we can help find proper guide if you can not.

Then you can use the guide in my signature (SOFF and one click root). To first SOFF then root your device.. The guide is bit tricky
You can also go via htcdev unlock..
Search for "flashing rom's with SON" guide by asskicker2 to have the root too.. (this method may(very slim) void the warranty)

sensation xe official ICS wifi error
I was connected via Wi-fi to my home router and downloaded the new version of android 4.0.3, and after updating the phone and it turned on again i couldnt connect to the router.
I can tell that the Wi-fi device on the phone works just fine. Because i can find my router, and my neightbours. It aks me the password ofc. Then when i try to connect, at first it says connecting, then after about 2-4secs it says disconnected. When i look at the list of routers, it only says 'not in range', but that isn't the problem.
I would say its not a hardware problem, but somehow a software problem. Because it was running just fine before the update.
Any idea on how to fix the issue ?
Anyone experienced the same problem after updating the phone ?
Could it be a WiFi driver problem with the on the new version of android ?
Here is some info on the software on my phone :
Andriod Version 4.0.3
Htc Sense version 3.6
Software number 3.32.401.105
Hope to get some help

apparently its a bug in HTC
you need to search for updates again from phone (they released another update to fix this--around 15mb)
but as you didnt have wifi..you need to either use mobile network or internet pass through
if updating didnt solved the problem..try factory reset

I've checked out asskicker [GUIDE] Flashing roms with S-ON and 1.27 HBOOT..
The problem is I get to the Stage 2. Flashing a recovery.
I continue getting the following error message:

OKAY [ 1.494s]
writing 'recovery'...
(bootloader) signature checking...
FAILED (remote: signature verify fail)

So any ideas guys???

wow signature check..that should not happen if you got htcdev unlocked bootloader
did your bootloader say *unlocked* ..if not get the bootloader unlocked (step 1) and then try flashing recovery again

Ive been trying since yesterday to try and unlock the bootloader using the htc website.. Nothing seems to happen
Is there any other way I can unlock the bootloader...???????

the actual JB SOFF process ..was kinda difficult..you need to wire trick...that's the tricky one but fun part (some people struggled for hours to get wire trick done and some ppl did it in first try)
anyways if you can do unlock of bootloader i advise you to try that
try to open the web page in different browsers

I've done it and thanks to you, I'm finally rooted
Thanks to ganeshp
Now I'm on the lookout for ROM's.. Just a couple of quick questions..
1) Will I lose data and software each time that I flash my phone?
2) How do I check if I'm s-off or s-on?
3) Is there a ROM that you'd recommend?
Thanks

1. when completely changing the rom..you need to wipe your phone completely..so that will cause data loss..
(but the apps and contacts will be linked to your gmail account...so they can/will be added, you can backup your messages and call logs using an app (there are lot out there) , the only thing you lose is system data (wifi pairings, bluetooth pairings, the phone data usage etc etc) and data of the apps... i use titanium backup for saving data of apps and restore them once i change a rom)
Also remember ..you no need to wipe unless mentioned..when upgrading the same custom rom ..like going from 1.2 to 1.3 etc etc
2.to check for SOFF..you need to go to bootloader..and see
to go to bootloader ...uncheck fastboot in settings -> power
then power of your phone
then hold volume down and power together...you'll go to a white screen ..it
has all the details...post it here ..so that i can confirm you are soff
3.im currently using sense 4 ROM ..check my signature..almost all sense 4 roms ..here are pretty stable..except two bugs...wifi theter and hdmi out..i dont need them so ..im on sense 4 ...for sense 3.6 you can go for any ROM..as they are completely stable..no bug at all imho

Hi press volume down and power OR pull battery, put back in press volume down and power, this will take you to your menu where you can see if your soff or on. When flashing roms ALWAYS do a full back up of
Current rom, then use a app. Of your choice to backup applications. This way if something goes wrong during flashing you can restore recent rom and apps remember to please flash apporiate firmware before flashing your rom. Ics firmweare is usually 3.32. Gb firmweare is différent. If you ignore this step you will be headed for trouble. Follow thé guides to flashing with either s-on or off. Depending on which you are . There are à lot of great stable roms out there depending on YOUR personal prefrence. You can find a senceless rom with victorious inquisition, you can find sence 4 with béats with ordroid, you can find sence 3.6 with béats in many, ive uséd béats by Grogg. Its just à matter of personal taste, look at thé change logs, and screen shots and you can choose from there in development section. Its so wonderful to havé options
And wé have great developers that give us mamy options! Thank God for thèm! So i suggest looking over thé Roms and décide which suites your needs best! This is thé fun part! Good Luck to you. Happy flashing . i hope this helped answer your questions.

[Q] how to downgrade Desire S hboot 0.98.0002?

I recently bought a new Desire S which works great with me. I installed an update that upgraded my hboot from 0.98 to 0.98.0002. Now I need to s-off it using AlpharevX but it only supports 0.98. My question is: is there a way to downgrade it into 0.98? I followed another guide on the site that didn't help at all & didn't even provide the right rom. Any help
not sure but i think that u need to flash stock rom with 0.98.0000 then s-off ....maybe someone can provide hboot 0.98.0000 image
that's exactly what i've been hoping for. hope someone could do that

Good luck !
ok, thanks so much but I have a very silly question. How do I flash the .img? I know its a very silly one but I'm still a bit of a noob in Android
Reboot your phone into Bootloader and then choose Fastboot.
Open a cmd window, cd into your android sdk folder and then type:
fastboot flash hboot example.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
*replace example with the name of the img.
I did what you said but when I write "fastboot flash hboot saga_hboot_0.98.img" it displays:
{sending 'hboot' (1024 kb)...
OKAY [ 0.189s]
writing 'hboot'...
(bootloader) signature checking...
FAILED (remote: signature verify fail)
finished. total time: 0.339s}
any idea what might be causing the signature check error?
I suggest you to flash a RUU and then S-OFF it.
Better and safer.

download this one and install. put ur phone on usb
u sure? i have a slow (but unlimited) net & what should i do after that, just run the installer & it will downgrade the hboot?
Exactly. It will replace everything: ROM, radio, hboot, etc.
L.E: Have you checked this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1078497 ?
actually, yes. I've tried the following but it didn't work. Every time I reach step 10 it finishes but doesn't change anything. And I have another question but its out of the topic, if I flash Virtuous Unity ROM, will games & apps recognize the device as HTC Desire S & be compatible or what?
Yes, your device will be recognized as Desire S.
Ohh, that's a great relief. Thank you so much for your help up till now. Hope it works out in the end. Sadly, I won't be able to continue the process today & I'll have to continue tomorrow. Don't worry, I'll immediately post the result when I wake up & finish the process (probably I'll wake up here at about 8:30 - 9:00) & the download takes 30 min. so I'll post the result at about 11:00 - 11:30 in Romania .
Ohh thank you so MUCH. It worked!! Luckily I backed up all my things first. The most important thing is, my hboot is now 0.98.0000! Thanks a million again .
Really glad it all worked out nicely. Have a nice time testing ROMs !
Yeah, got Cyanogenmod & Virtuous Unity but liked Virtuous more. Anyway, thanks so much for all your help . As for anyone that needs to downgrade his hboot, I suggest that he downloads this program & it will do all the work: http://www.filefactory.com/file/ca1f...977_signed.exe. Not my fault if it bricked your phone or if it didn't work but it worked for me. & note that it will erase every thing on the device so back up first.

[Q] 1st time HTC Sensation user, in what order do I start customizing?

Hi guys. I've just got my brand spanking new HTC Sensation and i'm wondering what order to root/SOFF in and basically anything else as i've not done DIY rooting since my old HTC Desire a couple of years back so i'm a bit rust and confused.
I don't want to mess up and brick my phone so i'd like to know the things to do in the correct order and with the correct software/tools.
1st off i'll give the details about my device:
Phone - HTC Sensation Z710e
HBOOT - 1.27.0000
Android version - 4.0.3
HTC Sense version - 3.6
Software number - 3.32.771.13
Kernel version - 3.0.16-g159c6f3 / [email protected] build- 144 #1 / SMP PREEMPT Tue Apr 3 08:37:16CST 2012
I hope that's enough info but I have more should we need it.
This is how i'm thinking of doing it but please correct me if i'm wrong:
1) S-OFF using the Juopunutbear S-OFF method.
2) Install CWM via this thread.
3) Once that's been done I can go about installing custom ROM's.
Hope that's correct.
Thanks.
hmm as you are on stock ICS
there are few different ways to have root/custom roms
1.staying SON and flashing roms (this involves HTC-DEV unolcked bootloader ..which might void your warranty ...but not a single person was denied warranty until now afaik..but there is risk still involved..as htc keeps your phone info in their data base)
to do that follow this guide to the letter
2.SOFF and flash roms
2.1. SOFF without HTC-DEV unlocked bootloader ...guide link in my signature (ohh forgot to mention HTC-DEV will completely erase your data ..once you do a unlock)
(cons ....wire trick which is required is little bit hard..but all the troubleshoot has been covered)
2.2 SOFF with HTC-DEV unlocked bootloader....guide link here
(you can skip steps #2 and #3 as you are already stock ..igf you decided to use that)
for both the SOFF procedures ..there is a good tool too ..here is the tool (it not only does soff ..but a lot of other stuff...do check it )
after gaining SOFF ..you can flash recovery ..and then ROM installation
thanks for the reply.
So basically to do everything I should just use this?

Could you link me to any ROM's that don't need SOFF please? Lost patience with this.
I've heard you have to be really precise with the wires
Haha i've literally just done it abour 20 seconds ago, tooted and SOFF! I can't get CWM to work though, i'm trying to flash it with that all-in-one job and i've donw everything it tells me to do but upon pressing the power button I get

For the wire trick it's a matter of timing don't give up.read over instructions again regarding the timing.I know you can do it is just going to take patience. You will be glad later you s off as there is more you can do and it makes things much easier later. Hang in there and I know you will have success . Best wishes.

for recovery ..you can do it via 4ext app

Damn i've just installed CWM, is there any difference between the two there than 1 having touch screen or do they have different functions? Don't really want to keep messing about if both are basically the same.
some rom installation works only on 4EXT (it will be mentioned in the thread ..like ARHD)...so its you call ..it has lot of other features too ..and completely supports backup made by cwm too
Alright, last few questions and i'll be gone!
Currently using the CM9 nightly.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1654409
1) How do I go about installing 4EXT with CWM already installed?
2) I've just installed CM9. When I have the ROM on my desktop, can I go into the 'app' folder and remove some of the crap I won't be using? Things like Email, Movie Studio, Terminal Emulator, DPS Manager, ROM Manager, Voice Dialer, WiFi Calling? I used to do this on my old HTC Desire and it was a trail and error process but it did not damage/brick my phone in any way, all I used to get were screen with 'this application is not responding' etc. Is this still safe to do on the HTC Sensation?
3) In CM9 Nightly, how come I can't overclock past 1.2Ghz (stock speed)?
Thanks guys.
1: if you have root, just download the app from play store
2: yes, you can
3: you need to flash a kernel supporting overclock, like bricked AOSP.
If you run into problems, let me know

Alright, I lied about the 'final question'.
Basically i've uninstalled that 4EXT Easy Flash from here and it's replaced CWM. Works fine but i'm wondering if that's the newest version? Or could someone link me to the newest version please?
Download 4ext recovery updater free from the play store. It lets you update the recovery if u dont have newest version
Guys does anyone know the .apk name of 'Movie Studio'? Removing all the crap I won't use now and I can't find it in the app list folder.
Thanks.
I found VideoEditor.apk in system/app on CM9 RC 1
Got it, thank you very much!
Edit: I've also deleted 'Voice Dialer' and 'Update Me'. Hope that's O.K.

I've triple checked the process and am sure I'm doing it right.
I bought the phone on ebay a few months ago and it's been working fine up until now.
A few things about the phone however -
1. It was sent to me with a box, but the IMEI number on the phone didn't match the number on the box. I've since found that maybe this could be due to an HTC motherboard repair when it was under warranty (I understand there was a high dust under the screen failure rate on these models ?) This could also explain why the HTC unlock doesn't work ?
2. When I got the phone, I did a factory reset and the only language packs available as part of the factory reset were Asian ones, (Thai etc), but after a full reset, it operated fine in English.
3. The phone is sim-free
Unless anyone can come up with any solutions it sounds like it's time to take a sledgehammer to the thing, and also a mental note to NEVER buy HTC again. Time for the Nexus 4 I think.
Thanks

[Q] After Flashing JB Rom, Won't Boot

First: Thanks to this great forum of developers and users, I have learned a lot in a short period of time. The HTC One S is my first Android handset, and I love it. All the wonderful tutorials and threads you guys created made learning the basics of rooting/flashing easy.
This is my second HTC One S handset, the previous one died from hardware failure. The previous handset had HBoot 1.06, and so I was able to flash the TWRP recovery and use the Trickdroid 9.1.0 flawlessly. The problem comes with this new handset, and I am not sure exactly what it is to troubleshoot. The current HBoot on the phone is 1.14 (which means I can't flash radios, etc.). After unlocking the bootloader, I flashed the latest TWRP recovery (2.4.1.0). After factory resetting the phone and installing the Trickdroid 9.1.0, the phone won't boot. If I hold the power for 5-10 seconds, the keys flash, that's it. I am able to get into the bootloader using the power + volume down method, and then I have to recover my phone back to factory settings using the RUU avaliable online. I have tried redoing this process 2-3 times now, and everytime I flash the JB rom, the phone won't boot. I am not sure if having a HBoot 1.14 prevents me from upgrading from ICS --> JB, recovery, or anything else. As I said, my knowledge of Android is very limited as I am a new user. I really would like to use the JB rom that is cleaned and optimized. If anyone has any suggestions on what I can do, I would greatly appreciate it. Right now, I just did the perm root to be able to get rid of some of the bloat (T-Mobile comes with so much garbage!). Thank you so much, once again, and any troubleshooting help will be returned with big kiss!

Yes, that is right. I think any HBoot higher than 1.09 (I am 1.14) will not be able to flash WiFi partitions. Any way we can make WiFi work on JB? Would upgrading the HBoot to 2.x fix this Wifi problem? I still don't know why it doesn't work though and not having Wifi is kind of a big deal.

[Q] HTC Sensation 4G keeps restarting

Out of the blue, my htc sensation 4g started restarting again & again.
I've tried to flash stock rom again using correct RUU but nothing is working. Yesterday formatted my SD card through other phone & after phone started working nice but when I switched off phone to insert SIM card, it started giving same problem.
Please advise what kind of solutions I have to restore my phone back on stock rom? I don't want to loose my investment.

I read a lot about people with batteries not making contact with the pins. Maybe stick in a tiny piece of paper to tighten it up?

Thanks for the quick reply folks but don't think its battery issue as I'm able to start phone in bootloader everytime.
In bootloader, getting message "No image or wrong image"
Could it be a problem with your SIM maybe ? If your phone can stay powered in bootloader , the radio won't be powered up in bootloader, try a different SIM and see if that helps ? And the no image stuff is just where the bootloader is scanning for update and diagnostic images , nothing to worry about .

I tried it already, this happens with/out SIM card. Started without SIM, with same SIM & with different SIM.
Ummm not too sure I can help then buddy sorry , all I can say is I had the exact same problem as you and I replaced the battery and never had any issues again , good luck in finding a solution , I hope someone can find a solution to your problem

What do you think about SD card? Yesterday phone started working when I've formatted my card but after next restart, it started giving same problem.
not too sure, Have you got another sdcard laying around to try ? may not help but worth a try i think, At least you can rule out faulty sdcard if it doesnt help
Flash Boot.img
Sometimes I have the same thing.
What works is to flash de boot.img of the rom again. I see u also have S-ON so I think you allready know how it works.

did you unlock the bootloader in order to use the fastboot command?
No I did not & not sure how to do it. Can you please help me to go through the entire process? Any past thread on this topic or link would help.

step 1 is for unlocking the bootloader
i suggest you to install a custom rom and see how it goes
after unlocking bootloader follow step 2 for recovery
then from recovery
format all partitions except sdcard
enable smartflash
flash the rom
