[Q] Long press volume to change music S2(9100)? - General Questions and Answers

I really need this feature and I got it after installing Slim ICS for my Galaxy S2. Since I updated to the latest version (3.8) and latest Siyah Kernel 3.2.6.4 I can't use that anymore.
Anyone knows this is the rom thing or the kernel thing? How can I enable it ? I use PowerAmp paid version to play music and turned on everything about headset buttons.
Sorry new here so can't post question in the rom thread. Appreciate your help

Try cynogen, tyere is probably that feature
Sent from my candle

I like this feature too...but it's only in few ROMs...
I would like to know if is there any chance how to take this feature to any ROM through CWM

I mean I got that with the old combination of Siyah Kernel and Slim rom for SGS 2 but since updated it's gone. Anyone who's using the same combination or has knowledge about the roms and kernels can explain what to do ?

[ATT dev] Kernels Causing Wired HEADSET ISSUES!

I noticed some Kernels have different issues with wired headset.
Headset cuts my voice during voice calls
Auto dials and auto pulls call log
Headset button doesn't work
anyone notice strange behavior with your headset plugged in? Lets make a list of issues to make it simpler for devs to find a solution.
Any solutions? (one is to use stock kernel which is linked in this thread)
Post your issues with wired headset and please note which kernel is acting up. maybe we can combine code from different kernels to make one that works. (I noticed that some kernels have one issue but not the other)
Thanks for all your support and great work everyone is doing on the Epic!
Yes, I noticed the behavior between different kernels (using stock ROM). I know for a fact that with Xtreme Kernel, it disconnects my calls whenever I plug in my headset. The devs say to use only with ACS ROM, but given that the kernel is the bridge between the hardware and software, I doubt the ACS ROM would fix the issue.
I forgot what happened with the other kernels. I settled with Pheonix for now at the conservative governor (interactive sometimes leaves the CPU running at 100MHz and wont ramp up).
Seems we wont be getting any fixes for a while. All the kernel devs are having too much fun playing with Froyo.
Glad I am not the only one! Lets see if we can work this out! Using your phone without headset will give you BRAIN CANCER! Plus its more convenient with a headset when I have to deal with clients.
had problems using epic experience w/ mixup kernel and the latest Xtreme
I can confirm that wired headset handling is kind of fubar in our community kernels. Samsung had made some bugfixes between DI07 -> DI18 versions, but those changes don't appear to have been added to the DI18 source code.
Have any of you tried using the stock DI18 kernel to test this? If it works properly, then we have to cross our fingers and hope the issues don't persist in the kernel shipped with Froyo - as it stands there's no way to know what changed to fix this stuff easily in our community kernels.
The only time I ever gotten headset to work with phone mic was using stock rom and stock kernel after an odin.

Yep, that's the exact issue with the missing changes in the source Samsung released.

It's only the custom kernel(s) that cause this issue...flash whatever rom you want, flash the stock kernel and you should be good to go...
also, FYI, already a thread on this issue here:

any link to stock Kernel? would be good if we could find a solution for the custom kernels, Is there any other way to install stock kernel besides restoring stock rom through ODIN?

I doubt it. I posted my bug on the Xtreme Kernel thread and Devin never responded. The only response I got was to use a specific ROM .
Yes, well at least this one is. I'm examining the audio right now to try and hunt down a fix for this and the bluetooth routing bug.
The leaked 2.2 still has the bluetooth bug afaik. I'm hoping samsung releases this fix with their source next time.
Using extreme kernel and when i plug in AUX cable for audio to my car it isnt recognized as a headset.
You mean it doesn't pop the icon in the notification bar, or that it doesn't play audio?
Nothing I plug in pops the headset icon when using a custom kernel - not even the wired headset. Pretty sure it's another symptom of the bug.
[edit] Nor in the froyo stock kernel. /shakes fist at samsung!

[Q] What ROM should I choose?

Hi, I know there's no such thing as the "best" ROM, it depends entirely on taste and on what you're expecting. So, I'm searching for a 2.3.4, stable, as fast as possible ROM with no particular tweaks if not for increasing speed and memory...should I simply go with a deodexed stock or is there something better speedwise? Thank you in advance!

I would also like to get this tip...Speed increase and more available memory, maybe some tweaks in the notification bar, but besides that I would like to keep my phone pretty much in stock form.
If speed tweaks are all you want with very high stability, check out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1065392
His ROM (When he reposts it) is very stable and very fast.
Install that with James Bond or Netarchy kernel and you'll have a very fast/stable setup.
Ok, great, thanks!

Thanks for the tip! That ROM seems to be exactly what I want.
Can I add shortcuts or power controls to the pull down notification bar with a separate app, or should they be cooked to the ROM? If I can could somebody point me to the right directionwhere I could find this kind of separate app? Thanks!
If you want something a little more customized, but still pretty stock, you could try the infin1ty ROM. I've been using it for a while now, it is very quick and very stable. The dev is also very involved and posts regular updates about new features and bug reports.

I would suggest you to use SupeASOP v8.0.
I find that rom is the best after i tried different roms.
Cm7 is good but not to my expectation.
I would recommend you to try SupeASOP v8.0 with kernel of Netarchy Nexus - 1.3.0.12-cfs-2.3.4-universal (Universal for non-stock 2.3.4 roms).

Rooted it by flashing su (before rebooting):

And, after first reboot I flashed Netarchy kernel (CFS 2.3.4 stock):

BLAZING fast...much faster (at least in my everyday use) than anything else I've tried...battery life also seems really good...thank you guys!
Why do you prefer this rom?

Ok, this rom is working great, but I get a force close when I try to make a video chat on talk...audio chat is fine...I saw many users had this problem on nexus s but I haven't understood if it's a rom related problem or a general problem with 2.3.4 on this phone...any suggestions?

I don't know much about your ROM, but there was/is an issue where you have to have your volume all the way down before you start a video chat on talk. Some ROMs have it fixed, some don't. Also, some ROMs have an issue where only the back camera works with video chat.
I know most devs are working on incorporating the fix for talk into their ROMs. If it is a deal breaker for you, take a look around at different ROMs, we are very fortunate to have many active and talented devs working on various ROMs.

[Q] So many roms...

Hi guys,
I decided I want to flash an ICS rom to my nexus S.
Question I have though, is what will work for my phone, which is a 9020A (AT&T) and what rom would give me the closest to stock ICS like what OTA ICS would be?
I was thinking cyanogenmod 9 but I have used CM7 and remembered it being sort of a hassle...
I really want the facial unlock feature if possible. I don't know if it's native in ics or what but I want that.
Tell me why you think the rom you suggest is best, please. I want to know what the pros and cons to it are. And links would be really nice!
Thanks!
stock ics
I'm happy with the stock 4.0.3, I tested Peter Alfonso nightlies lately but I was annoyed by his adjusted auto brightness however it seems to be very popular and smooth and fast.
Stock runs great on my i9023 and there are no killer features in any stock like rom yet imho. But I'm using a custom kernel which is imho always better than the stock kernel.
edit: face unlock is useless since it recognizes nothing and is less secure than a pin or a pattern
Im using the same model phone as you are and running cybergr ics v3. Its by far the best rom so far.. try it, he has alot of extra features.. daily rom. In a couple of days v4 is coming out.
I just flashed revolution HD 4.2.3 this morning with speedy 4 kernel and this is definitely the best combination I've used so far.
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
I still use the DrewGaren ROMS, they are plenty fast and stable, along with the latest Glados Kernel They seem to give me the best results.
Stand corrected. cybergr ics v3 is a really fast ROM, probably the fastest i've ever seen my phone, just need to update it to v2.8 Glados
Face Unlock is a cool feature. Unfortunately, our front camera is too bad to properly recognize faces. If you get lucky - in good light - you might be able to unlock it, but it really is no fun at all.

Works great. No radio flash needed. Install went smooth aside from a few derps on my part. Rom seems a bit laggy but I think it's just because it's reinstalling everything. other times it's blown me away by how fast it is. Face unlock works pretty well. love the interface. I can't believe it's android, its awesome!
I've tested almost every ICS rom's available and right now KANGY6 with MATRIX v14.5 CFS it's the best combo for me.
i'm getting 3000+ on Quadrant with 1.46Ghz OC
You may try the CYBERGR ROM it's also very stable and fast.

ok, I dun goofed. I think I restored a system app on accident thinking that it would restore my messages or something... but my mobile data quit working when i restored that stuff (multiple restores, but thought i was just restoring user apps not system). any idea how to fix the mobile data without re-flashing?
Edit: Fixed, but lost my conversations in my messaging. Oh well. At least the android gods love me again. Anyways this rom is great, it works perfectly! So smooth!

Brand New To Sensation Need Tips!!

Just got a Sensation! Came from the G2x which I could no longer tolerate with all of it's issues (LG can't program Android for crap)! Anyways, I have already gotten S-OFF via Revolutionary. I have the latest 4EXT recovery and have flashed ARHD 6.5 XE and I am loving this phone. Just had some questions though:
1. What are the current bugs with Sensation ICS ROM's?
2. For ICS ROMS is there any mod or flashable zip to skip music tracks with volume buttons while the screen is off?
3. What do you guys feel is the most stable/frequently updated ICS and GB ROMS?
4. What are the most stable/fastest kernels?
I know the last 2 questions are quite generic and will garner many different opinions. I don't want to be a guinea pig though and testing beta kernels/ROMS. I just want something stable and fast that's all! Thanks for the input in advance everyone!
IMO ARHD is most updated / stable ICS ROM - i been using it 2 weeks and havent ran into any bugs at all..
sebastians kernel is what i use it can be overclocked to 1.8ghz and is safe and very stable at them speeds.
also i dint know if there is a zip mod for your music issue.... there are lots of mods in the themes n apps section so check it out ..... also if u want to skip tracks when screen is off (assuming in your pocket) why not use headphone controls ??
Thanks for the reply. I'm interested in the track skipping for when I'm driving and the phone is plugged into aux. Safer to skip track with the volume buttons rather than have to look at the phone and unlock it.

Oh i see, That is a good idea Nice to know your a safe driver lol

[Q] Custom ROM, Custom Recovery & Custom Kernel

Hello!
I have a Samsung Galaxy S Advance i9070.
I just customized it from 2.3.6 stock, to Light JellyBean v1.2. I use CoCore-E-8.6.4 as custom kernel.
I don't know what to do, the phone is very slow. Sometimes it freezes for a very long time, it freezes in the menus, it freezes on google play, etc. Sometimes it's for a short period of time, but sometimes it crashes the whole ROM and the phone reboots... :crying::crying:
What should I do? On 2.3.6 the phone worked like a charm...
Please teach me how to make it better (4.1.2 of course). Tell me what is the best ROM, best KERNEL, best everything for S Advance i9070?
Thank you in Advance!

Thanks for the answer. If I could have done it, it would have been great. It might still work, if I find the apps in .apk, it might just work, like an ordinary app. Does S-Voice belong to Samsung or Google? That's the only app that I want, I think. And I have it in .apk. I also have AccuWheather and Samsung Apps in .apk. I would lose Kies(I think), but the software is crap, backup and restore works only 70%. But there are more softwares out there that can do what Kies does, only better. So, I don't know, it's something to think about...
