Is there a noticeable difference in the webtop experience of the Atrix 4g lapdock and the lapdock 100(used by other phones)?
I dont know what (other phones) means but I can tell you a comparison of the two using the Atrix 2.
Original lapdock overall has a much much nicer look, feel, bigger screen, nicer touchpad.
The lapdock 100 reminded me of a cheap asus netbook, only good qualities of the lapdock 100 is the keyboard has android shortcut keys like home, back, settings, and also has a phone button that you can use to answer and hang up phones.
Neither lapdock allows you to go into mirror mode on the Atrix 2.
Only con with original lapdock is that you have to open and switch ports around, which is pretty easy.
After extensive Google searches I could not find out if the Bionic lapdock works with the Atrix 2.
every search has come up with either how to modify the original atrix dock for the bionic or using a razr with
the bionic dock. Can someone please confirm if the Atrix 2 does indeed work with the Bionic lapdock
as this would save me from having to purchase a Atrix 2 lapdock and modifying it. Looking at the pins
the Atrix laptock is inverted where as the Bionic is the same orientation as the Atrix 2.

I have read of people using a Photon on a Bionic lapdock so i don't see why it wouldn't work with the A2.
It would help if you supplied a model number.
If it's the lapdock 100, yes it does work with Atrix 2.
As usual Motorola is dumping the 100's since the lapdock 500 and 500 pro are out. There's awesome differences between the 100 and 500. Webcam, 14 inch screen, sdcard. I didn't even notice the 500's . But I got a sweet deal for the 100 and it works great. Only thing it has is power and 2 usb ports. Very basic compared to the 500.
Motorola actually did something intelligent, (it pains me to say it) but the connection is a cable, that's why it is works with multiple models of phones.
Hopefully the guru Jim B gets the ubuntu and webtop figured out then I'll get the 500.
EDIT: OP go to the Motorola web site, put lapdock 100 in the search at the upper right. Lapdock 100 page will come up, in the middle of the page there's a COMPATIBILITY link. Click that you'll see all the phones the lapdock works with.

(Part#: MOTBIOLAPDK)
Model Number EW-3005
Yes the 500 does look very stylish and promising and has a much better build quality than the 100 in my opinion but at $299 its a little out of my price range when i can easily pick up the bionic lap dock for $70 on amazon. Yes the full featured Ubuntu would be awesome! but i think until we get a phone with a quad core processor and web top by Motorola it is not worth it and after updating to the leak #2 I can say webtop 3.0 is much much faster than the 2 on the productivity and connivance side of things
in short YES IT WILL
the OG atrix has 1 type of connector, and the OG docks' connector goes with it, thats why u have to mod it.
the BIONIC lapdock is a BIONIC lapdock for a reason, because the BIONIC has different connectors.
and since there is only two type of connectors, it means you dont have to flip them to work with atrix 2

Probably get some excellent prices now.
Figured given Motorola's recent announcement that they'd be eliminating and/or no longer support these docks, that it would be useful as a community to track and track down the best prices of these items and pass them onward. Don't know about the rest of you but the capability of docking the phone was a huge sell to me - I simply couldn't justify the additional cost of the dock at the time I bought the phone.
In reading around, I've heard that Radio Shack is or was selling the Bionic Lapdock for $20 - I don't know if that is still the case.
I know that I at least am willing to prop the case open and flip connectors around if need be to make the dock work correctly with my phone.
Anyone else seen any of these lapdocks around at reasonable prices of late?
Regards.
whats the 500p and whats the difference between the 500 ?
Hrm. I might have been misreading things - when I search on the Moto site, I'm only seeing a 500 Professional. So perhaps different sites were referring to that particular model different ways.
Either way, I've got alerts set on SlickDeals and am keeping my eyes peeled on eBay. Anyone checked out a local Radio Shack to see if they still have the Bionic dock?
the bionic docks go around $50 on ebay, though i got mine $70 becuz i needed int ship
$50-60 right now at http://bensoutlet.com/
This is part of the 1saleaday family of websites. It's where I got mine.
Turning around the plugs was super easy but I don't actually use it that often. I have an Otterbox Defender on mine I have to take it out of the case to use it. Working on putting together to adapters to make a Raspberry Lapdock.

Will that one for the 4G work with the A2 on ICS?
Ive been running my A2 w/OTA ICS... rooted for a few weeks now and just got the Droid Bionic lapdock for it. The A2 fits like a glove and it seems as long as im on wifi it doesnt run into an entitlement error. i found the lapdock on ebay new for 75 which compared to 300 when it first came out is still a pretty good deal. There was no need to change ports or anything since the ports for both the A2 and bionic are the same just sit in different spots on the side of the phones. The lapdock is lighter then my laptop and i pretty much use my phone for everything else so buying a lapdock to me was a good investment. i always have the HD dock station for music/movies for my tv. ICS webtop is much friendlier then GB and has more of the tablet interface feel to it...so ics is the way to go for the A2.
Hope this was helpful. :fingers-crossed:
Atrix 2 rooted w/ ICS
Samsung Captivate w/JB
Nook Color w/GB

Yup, did it with mine. You have to take it apart and make the holes in the plastic (for the connectors) a little bigger so that you can flip the connectors around and stick them in the right orientation for the atrix 2. If you don't make the holes big enough, the ports will be misaligned just enough so that it wont dock very easily, and it will go in crooked. If they are big enough the problem is eliminated. Reassemble everything and enjoy webtop 3.0!
If you don't already have an atrix 4G lapdock though, go for the Bionic one. It doesn't have to be modified, and it fits better (the bionic is closer in size to the atrix 2 than the atrix 4G is)
I picked up a Bionic one from the Ben's Outlet sale - as another member described, it fits perfectly, and functions perfectly as well. Didn't even need to swap any ports around though I was prepared to do so if necessary. AT&T hasn't tried to ding me for tethering yet either, but we'll see how long that takes.
I'd been looking towards a tablet/phablet for the future, but having the lapdock makes that a none issue now, I think, especially at the prices we all seem to be finding.
I've still got alerts set up on SlickDeals for the various Lapdocks, will definitely continue to share them in this thread in hope that others can get good deals.
Hm, looks like my extended battery would get in the way on the Bionic dock? It's really NBD, I'm thinking of getting the LG Nexus 4 when it comes out, but if decide to stick with the A2 for a while more, a lapdock would be nice.
My lapdock experience and also a question
I just recently bought the lapdock 100 off of amazon, and so far I thought it was okay, but the connector wouldn't fit if I had my otterbox commuter case on. I started to read any posts related to using the bionic dock instead, but was a bit confused on whether of not it would fit properly. Taking a gamble I went and purchased the bionic dock on thursday morning, and being in Connecticut It arrived today this afternoon, $50 refurbished with free shipping from New Jersey. So far I cannot leave the otterbox on but it works better than the 100 dock I got for $120, which I kinda consider a waste of my time, but not really because I wasn't sure how I would be using the dock everyday, and whether or not I would want to use it at all for web browsing, video, small document editing, and music using an external speaker ( I tried both of the docks' speakers, they both are really meh for me and my music listening. I prefer my logitech ue earbuds and jbl micro II speaker)
Long story short, go with the bionic lapdock, bigger screen, slimmer form facter, just careful with the hinge, it's a bit easier to close the screen, not much resistance compared to the 100 lapdock. At least the refurbished ones
Q: I can't seem to change the tap to click settings when using the bionic dock. also I don't get battery charge stats or settings either, I did have bootstrap to go to cm10, but restored to ics from a cm backup. Is there a way to re download the OTA 4.0.4 update and apply again? I just want to make sure that it's not the dock.
Lapdock 500 is one of eBay's daily steals today, not many in stock, but seems a very good price if you need that much lapdock.

Just purchased the lap dock 100 can't wait to use it .. as long as Jim gets me a copy of his CM10...hint hint....
"Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war"
Question to those who use the lapdock 100. I just received mine in the mail and I discovered a pretty bad defect. I'm a pretty fast typist, so I tend to press multiple keys at once. But I discovered when I attempt to type the word "know", I get this weird chain of letters that come out that looks like "knuowzo".
For those of you that use the lapdock 100, can you please try and see if you can replicate this problem? Try typing "know" really fast, or press multiple keys together.
Edit: I also discovered that typing "press" really fast ends up as "prewsps" or "prewss". It's quite irritating. I'm hoping it's just a defective unit, as I like this lapdock better than my other original bionic lapdock.

No it doesn't. The original one works fine. I just prefer the 100 keyboard over the original... if the keys didn't have a mind of its own. Do you have the 100 dock?

i have the bionic dock, and the only time that happens is when i accidentally rest my hand on the touchpad, and the cursor moves into the middle of a word and garbles the text

Bump. Can anyone with a lapdock 100 please try to replicate the problem above, thanks.
I know that Motorola has officially announced that they are killing the Webtop and Lapdock concepts around. However looking at the pics of the Razr HD, I have noticed this is almost the same configuration as the previous models. Given the hacks of the Atrix lapdock (Swapping the ports around etc), I was thinking if this is a good likely candidate to work on the lapdock?
Yes, the Webtop is no longer there (Linux) - but that was already killed in Webtop v3. Even if the Razr HD does HDMI mirroring to the Lapdock, it will be pretty good since the Lapdock supports 720p as well (but with a small black border). Hoping that someone tries this and if it works, it may be the upgrade path for my Atrix as such.
bump.. ?? Anyone tried?
Thanks..

sorry but this is not really true. Of course you have to turn the ports as for the razr xt910. afterwards some cutting on the bracket is needed.
BUT: What you'll get without webtop 3.x is a plain mirror mode with wide borders and no native resolution. Comparing razr with webtop and razr hd without is a little bit frustrating thus. currently the only workaround is to change the dpi settings in build.prop. let us hope that someone will find a way to get webtop installed on the razr hd (maxx) soon.
Beside the display restriction the atrix lapdock works well. this means touchpad is supported, razr hd is charging... i am not sure about the sound.

Razr HD With Different Lapdock
Hey there. I know you wanted to know about the atrix lapdock specifically; however, I am using a lapdock 500 with my razr HD and it works fairly well. Everything I have tested works (LAN, key board, touch pad, sound, charging, usb). I saw the 100 on Amazon for $100 new ($30 more than an atrix lapdock new). You wouldn't have to mess around with the ports or anything to get it working with the razr though. There are my two cents and hopefully I've helped. Take care!
Thanks for the reply guys! It looks like I have made a decision to move to the RAZR HD instead of the standard RAZR then! I can kind of put up with the borders to get the 720p screen (sometimes my Atrix defaulted to that when it couldnt detect the lapdock properly anyway). I saw the mods to make the standard RAZR XT910 work with it, but I didnt like how it fit on the docking panel upright as I keep thinking it will snap off somehow with the centre of gravity. The RAZR HD should fit on the side after twisting the ports around on the dock I think - just like the original Atrix.
Hi. I've searched around the forum a bit, but most topics about this seem pretty old, so would like to know the "current" status please?
Some background: I currently own an Atrix 4G MB860 and lapdock, and while not perfect, it works great, saving carrying around my laptop or tablet to get a bigger screen experience for web browsing, movies, etc, as well as much faster typing for e-mails and stuff.
I've looked into it, and as far as I can tell the Droid RAZR HD is the last/best Moto phone to support a lapdock (correct me if this is wrong!) as older phones have the lower spec's and low screen rez, while newer phones dropped HDMI (another bad idea, as I still hook my Atrix up to the TV to show photo's, etc)
So, am I mad to go from Atrix to RAZR HD (pref MAXX for extra storage and capacity) - has anyone else upgraded like this, and so can give me some comparisons?
Should I forget it and go to Moto-X, etc, and just forget the lapdock idea?
Who has it working nicely, and with which ROM(s)?
What does work and what is so bad you want to throw it out of the window?!
Thanks in advance! Kev
