What's the purpose of running a aftermarket kernel if you using a Rom with Rom control that can be set between 192mhz to 1.728 GHz?what are the benefits of the kernel?
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA
Do you mean a different kernel? I don't quite understand the concept of an after market kernel. Different kernels are generally used after flashing a rom to get a lower overclock and better battery life.

Why would you use a aftermarket kernel if your custom Rom has built in under and overclocking from 192 MHz to 1.728 GHz.what are the benefits of running a kernel with a Rom like this?

Didn't you just ask this very same question yesterday? PLEASE stop spamming the forum.
No I didnt.

I think it's just a matter of personal perfrence. What you like and what you want. Hope this helps you.

Just to clarify, these custom ROMs with "built in" over and underclocking are using the very same "aftermarket" kernels you're talking about. If the ROM chefs didn't include these kernels into their ROMs, then you would only have the stock 384-1188 MHz range available.
And like it was said earlier, people like different things. I was using Bricked last week, but now I'm on Faux. It's a matter of preference.

It is completely up to you as stated above but personally I don't overclock st all anymore, just no need. I never really notice a difference except for in battery life. There is a kernel floating around somewhere in the dev section which has an option of running on one core at 1.5ghz permanently, no matter what and if you want to go for battery life I'd chose that.

I have tried a couple nonsense roms with a few bricked kernels but I can't get any decent speeds out of them.can anyone recommend and roms kernel set-ups.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA
What do you mean by "decent speeds"?
1.5 or higher preferably.

on cm 9 with faux's kernel and am able to oc up to 1.8 I cant find the link again but the file name was Pyramid-ICS-AOSP-005b3.zip
If anyone has ran any of these listed kernels could you tell me which ones are more better for battery life and which ones for performance.Im just wondering if these different kernels are any good.I would appreciate any information on any of these kernels if you have any experience with any of them. Thanks in advance...

I meant atrix not matrix. Is it true that tamacore and Sebastian kernels are better for battery life than bricked kernels?are only faux kernels built for performance, speed, etc?
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G with Beats Audio using xda app-developers app
Running kernels made for different devices can usually result in two ways: 1. your phone won't boot / 2. it will, but with a lot of errors.
Maybe a kernel for a HTC device close to the sensation will work eventually, but chances are next to 0.
Since Bricked and Faux has better core management and Sebastian's kernel is almost stock - then it is false. Faux's & Bricked kernel can be configured either to save battery or to perform fast.
I personally have only gotten great speed out of faux kernels.and great batt life out of bricked kernels.I have seen that tamacore kernels also provide good batt life as well.I was just wondering if anyone has ever ran any of the different kernels that I have listed and what kind of rests that they experienced with them.

So basically the only kernels that I should run on my sensation is faux, bricked,Sebastian and tamacore kernels?how about vivid kernels?any information on this topic would be greatly appreciated it.

What does sweep2 wake mean on bricked kernels?and cmdline means what as well.are any if these Sebastian aftermarket kernels any good or should I just not even mess with Sebastian kernels? Thanks!!!

The Vivid is HTC's codename for a different phone, IT IS NOT A KERNEL! Its like htc named our phone the "pyramid" so flashing a kernel for the vivid is not a good idea.
The kernel devs that are active on sensation are, Show-p1984 with Bricked kernel, faux with faux kernels, sebastian with his kernel and tamcore who does CM/AOSP kernels only so dont flash tamcore kernel unless you are running an AOSP/CM based ROM.

Sweep2wake means that your screen will turn on and off by sliding your finger across the capacative touch buttons at the bottom of the phone.
Unless you are a dev, you really dont need to know what the kernel cmdline is or does.
Thank you very much for clearing up my kernel qwestions.

Hi,
The best kernel,is the one that works best for you.
A little trial and error is required.
Make a nandroid and install away.
They are all listed HERE
What he said
But keep in mind that trial and error means at least a couple of days with each kernel, as a kernel (or a rom for that matter) cannot be fully evaluated and appreciated within an hour or so..

Try them all and see which one works best . I've tried faux, bricked , and sebationfm, and anthrax. I'm using anthrax 384min 1404 max xondemand gov and I get anywhere from 16-18 hrs of the way I use my phone . If you wanna try anthrax just google anthrax kernel us. Also depends wich Rom your using sense or aosp. Some kernels are universal just read up on that kernel

I suggest Faux or Pacha
Faux' kernel is pure SH!T as he'd KANGING without permission and crediting all work to himself! Use ButteredToasT instead, no kernel get's smoother.
Thank you everyone for your comments it help
I will test every kernel for sensation and then I will post the benchmark scores.

Since it hasn't been mentioned, you can try my kernel (Sultan kernel). It's available for both AOSP and Sense ROMs. Links to my kernels' threads are in my signature.
EDIT: Haha, just remembered that you posted in my kernel's thread :silly:. In my latest post in that thread there is a GPU overclock init.d script that can raise your 2D GPU score a little bit (there's a bug in the newest release of my kernel where the 2D GPU doesn't overclock to 266MHz by default, it stays stock clocked at 200MHz by default, so you need to use an init.d script to get it to 266MHz. This won't be a problem once Axetilen finishes that amazing Aroma installer). You should be able to get 4,800 in Quadrant with that.

Nevertheless, people shouldn't use a mashup of multiple developers having invested thousands of hours of hard work stolen by a single guy named Faux123 claming everything to be "his own work". This piece of crap deserves to be permbanned for life.
faux gives a good battery life, but sometimes its a bit laggy. Bricked is smooth, overclocked kernel is more than fast
I'm using the bricked...it doesnt matter which kernels u use..just make sure it is compatible with yr Rom.....most important thing is that..keep the max btwn 1.4-1.7ghz for better performance...
