In trying to install the YouTube apk on my android tablet. There's a pre loaded YouTube app on it but I think its causing a problem. Every time I try to install it it says ' there was a problem parsing the package'. Can someone help?

Come on guys, this is preety general for an android problem. At least one person should have replied by now.

Do you have the logcat of what the Package Manager said?
That error is usually caused when the download isn't complete, I.e. the file is not proper...
That said, if you were sideloading the app, and you believe that you have the complete file (.apk), then you can uninstall the original app, and place the new app in system/app, give appropriate permissions and reboot...
You need root acces for the abobe, and the method in general is referred to as the root explorer method...

So I need to give it root access and then try to install the apk again but in the system app section? And to add there is this app on there called "video player" it basically functions like the Google YouTube app but not as good. But sometimes when I go to see the not-yet-installed YouTube apk on my SD card it has the "video player" icon. I don't have any problem with sideloading any other apk on there so could that be the problem?

I can't understand what you're trying to say!
Refer the guide mentioned in my sig vv
And see the step: installing apks through root explorer
(The rest of the stuff isn't related to your device)

For some reason some app doesnt work for me too, so i get problem parsing package . I used to have parsing package problem with flash player on my atrix4g then after some time i installed it and it worked good im not sure if its coz they fixed anything thro updates or it just coz i made some changes into my device i still can't download google books on it but my friend who has the same device and android version can. what im trying to say is you could try older versions of the app or if you really need it you can install custom rom , btw i can't install youtube either on my atrix i still work with an old version that came with the stock .

Generic youtube app provided by manufacturer causing OFFICIAL one to never install. *simplified*
How old is the atrix? Sounds strange if you cant even install google books. Maybe that could be a problem with the phone, not just older software.

My permissions were already set to this, and I am still having FC Issues with the latest Play Store. It closes as as soon as I attempt to download an app (Update or New Install). Once it force closes, I cant even open it again without clearing the data.
I rooted my Samsung Gio for the purposes of removing my carrier's bloat ware and moving apps across to the SD Card. Google Play was one of the apps I moved across. Ever since I did this, I have not been able to run the store and have been getting the same error message as everyone else. I also tried downloading different versions of the Play app but to no avail.
I'm trying to work this out but have not had much luck so far.
I am now getting this error whatever apk I try and install regardless how many apps I uninstall.
Can anyone help?
My tab has a stock rom but is rooted and is wifi only.

Factory reset
Sent from my GT-P6800 using xda premium
Surely not?!
However, If that is the only answer, an explanation would be nice as a factory reset seems a little extreme don't u think?

You probably have to go into either;
- /system/app/; or
- /data/app/directory and delete the odex file that has the same name.
Example: If you cannot install Titanium Back Up. Navigate to /data/app/ and find titanium.odex. Remove it and now you can install titanium.
Hope it help :fingers-crossed:

I already saw that solution elsewhere but doesn't work. I cant install any app apart from some.
This might sound stupidly simple but, are you sure you just aren't low on space from music or movies, etc...?

Do factory Reset and through CWM Recovery Restore your setting and Apps from NAND Backup (if only you created one)..
ok guys - just sorted it.
i installed app2sd at some point and i think i was trying to get it to install by default to my sd card. problem is that the old tab 7.7 doesnt support installing to sd. So what was happening it was just giving me a no error message. i used Super manager 3 to default back to the device memory, rebooted and all ok now.
sorry for my stupidity. but shame on the amount of users telling me to do a factory reset - thank god i didnt listen to y'all!!

**** happens
I faced the same problem with my Xperia ZR after playing with Link2SD.
Fixed it with starting the terminal and typing:
Code:
su
pm set-install-location 1
pm get-install-location
Resut is 1[internal], and the apps are now installing.

What rom and is there any mods you applied e.g. dpi setting you modified?

Im a proud owner of the samsung galaxy s wifi 4.2 . I play minecraft pocket edition a lot, I download custom maps and mods, but since a few days if I download something it will be completed inmediatly, but it sais "download failed" . This is to ZIP files and .apk files (I tried so far) but I can still download well by the market.
I looked through all my settings, online and general(phone).
I tried putting my device off/on, take out the battery, reboot and I even installed some apps that should help, but they wont. NOTHING HELPS. It keeps saying DOWNLOAD FAILED.
If you can, please post your answer below,
Thnx

Do you remember when it happened exactly?
After installing, or updating, some app?
For me it sounds like something messed up your phone.
Maybe minecraft itself.
Did you try to download with web browser like mozilla or so?
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I didnt knw it was that easy, I just installed Mozilla Firefox, And from there I was able to download everything again

My pleasure
Recently I've rooted my two phones but ever since then, I haven't received any updates for my apps, I've closed and opened to google playstore from day to day just to see but there haven't been any new app updates. Before I rooted, I would get then several times just a day. I'm not sure what's going on
Check ur rooting is ok by downloading root validator app. And if its ok. Sign in ur google accout again n enter playstore.

I ran the app and my root is ok, but as for signing out and back in, do I go about this by going into the settings > accounts > google > remove google account? or is there another way?
U can remove it n add again. Then go to playsstore app. And they will ask a permission accept it. This will be the simple first try.

Tried it, but it didn't work.
if u cant see the update used this steps
1) u can clear DATA/CACHE of
'playstore' and 'Google service
framework' in setting then reboot ur phone
and then try.
May be ur apps all uptodates now. If u have problem updating the app after rooting this may be a superuser problem that cant fix the signature.
if u see the update n get error on upadating app used this steps
1. 1)using root explorer or any root acces file manager, go to data/app folder and see if
u have any .ODEX file pertained to
those app/apps which r giving u
trouble in update vide store's and
delete the same, and then try
updating.
2. Used superuser update fxer to fix signature.
PLIS PRESS THANK IF I HELP U SOMEHOW.
