CM 9 and Titanium Backup - Samsung Galaxy SL i9003

Hi,
I yesterday flashed to ICS CM 9 Alpha 6 and I wonder if there is a possibiluty to backup from Titanium? I already tried a lot of things but it never worked. I only want ot backup my Apps.
It would be helpful to me if theire's someone who can explain me how to do.
Furthermoore I found out that camera always freezes if you like to use a kind of barcode scanner.
I'm thankful for every tip

Have you made a backup before flashing CM9?
Sent from my GT-I9003 using XDA

Thanks for immediate answer.
sure I did. I also have an older one saved on my pc which I tried also. Funny thing is that all dictonaries are visible on sd even with TB but are not to open by TB as backup folder. Before I flashed I was on a cr based on KPQ.
Also tried to format sd and copy the saved backup into it. Nothing worked out. I also read many pages on internet for a solution. It seems that there are more people facing this problem.

sorry, but forgot to tell you that I first thought it could be my sd. so I tried it in my tablet (odys loox even with ics) and there I would be able to restore from sd. so can't be sd itself.

in titanium backup, u can go to options and change the backup folder...
if u can view, but cannot restore, I suspect that you don't have root access?

@robb
Is the problem not being able to restore previously backed up apps via TiB? U may hav that problem when your internal/external sd cards got switched with cm9..
Have you tried going to preferences>back up settings>detect sd card & then using the found back ups?
Sent from my GT-I9003 using xda premium

hi guys,
thanks for your answers.
sure I have root. I'm not a noob and it wasn't because of internal and external have changed. IT WAS ME!! Sometimes it makes sense to verify that theire is something to backup in TB folder. I copied an empty folder (. now it works perfectly and even after flashing vurrut kernel ics runs great.

I Need some help

So I flashed clockwork mod and It worked it was easy as pie. I was able to boot into recovery but I cant get it to do anything. Now I did not ttry to flash anything I just wanted to see how it worked but when I boot it comes up I am able to navigate throught the menu with vol up\down but When I tried to power off or reboot the phone it would not let me select anything. I was using the power button to select but all it did was go to a different screen with a top hat so did I do it wrong? Should I try to do it again How would I get rid of it and start over?
Also The main reason I did this is to flash the stock froyo camera app which I downloaded to my pc. When I move it to my External sd card should I unzipp it first or just put the zipped file on my sd card? Any help would be helpful.
Edit I got CWM working I had to pull the battery and after the reboot I tried again and it worked so I made a backup. When it was doimg the backup it Said no sd-ext found skipping sd-ext backup Is that the external sd card I have in the phone if so it was in but thats not a big deal ass long as it backed up the internal sd. When I flashed cwm i did the external so I am assuming that it stored the backup on the external and that is where I should put the camera file and xboarders rom and anything else I want to flash right? Sorry for all the questions I want to understand everything that I do because I am nosey.
Charlie
You are correct. Sd-ext is skipped when making backups. Just download the rom you are interested in and boot into recovery. The rom you download should be found in the download folder on your ext sd card. In recovery click on install zip. Install the rom. Fix permissions and you should be good to go. I always do a factory reset after loading a new rom.
Okay thank you I really appreciate your help. I already downloaded the xboarders stock rom and the 1.5 ver of the stock froyo camera to my computer. So can I just make a folder on my external sd card called ROMS and move them to that folder from my PC? Then when I boot into CWM I go to install zip and that is it. I dont know if I am going to install a rom yet but I do want to try the camera. If it doesnt let me install the camera without root then I will install the xboarder rom. Again thank you for your help.
By the way I cant believe how easy this is to do I love this website and everyone on it.
I have not tried the camera yet. There are some issues still. I tried xboarders rom for a while but switched to eaglesblood 2.3.3. Great battery life. A must for me. Its not as pretty as some roms but does what I need.
I have high hopes flacko and crew get the camera 100%
Once you flash couple of times you will wonder why you did not try sooner. Be sure to use titanium backup. Use the batch method to copy your user apps only. Be sure to change the backup location to ext sd.
I heard that eaglesblood was really good I was going to try that one as well but I would like to keep stock gb. I actually use launcher pro and I love the way it works and looks because I like that the home screen can switch between lanscape and portrait and I like the app dock at the bottom. I know that the front camera is choppy but I think that is the only real major issue which I could live with because I used the front camera like 3 times. Do you think I should wait? I did donate to the project because I really apriciate theire hard work. everyone who want the camera should.
Also is titanium just to backup my apps and data? I have mybackup pro is that okay? When I did the backup with CWM did that only backup my ROM? What is the difference? I am sorry for all the questions but as I have already stated before I like to completly understand what I am doing.
CWM backs up everything. It is perfect for backing up the entire rom. It is an exact copy of the rom. That way you can play around and try things out. If things go badly or you do not like other roms you can always restore the CWM backup and you are back where you started.
Titanium is nice because you can back up all your user apps to the ext sd card, load a new rom and then restore your apps. It's great for games like Angry Bird or Paradise Island. It also saves bandwidth because you do not have to re-download all your apps. You just restore them from the ext sd card. It works very well.
As far as the camra issue, i am waiting till it is 100%. I am getting by with the GB camera for now.
The EB rom looks very similar to stock, because it is based on the stock upgrade. Just faster with better battery life. I really like it. You can use any launcher you like with it.
Okay that is what I thought. The only reason I don't have titanium is because if I remember corectly ylu have to be rooted to use it and until now I did not think I waz going to root. That is why I bought my backup pro you don't need root. I recently did a factory reset and used it to restore everything it worked perfectly. I am starting to catch on. But I would be lost without people like you and the rest of this fourm and phandroid.

I Just wanted to let you know that I flashed the camera without root I am still on stock GB. It works f******* Great!!!!!!! I gotta give it to those guys. They are a bunch of bright people there. I recommennd everyone donate to them they deserve it. I am thinking of starting a post to let everyone know how good the camera is. Just thought I would let you know.

Can't Install Any Apps

So I've encountered this problem on another ROM where I wasn't able to install any APK files or any other applications in google play. I did some research when it kept telling me I don't have enough space to install the application because of low memory, which I obviously knew all my memory was good enough to install something, and I came across a thread somewhere that said to delete some type of file in the sd card or the system files but I can't remember what and where it is located nor I can't find the thread again. That resolved my issue on my old ROM.
I'm having this same problem with another ROM I'm currently running. Anyone know any solutions?

i can promise you no one will help you with such a vague question. if you were able to search out your answer before, surely you can again. if not please specify what rom you are using, or more accurately post said question in that roms forum so you can get a group of people that are currently using the same rom.
not to come off mean, but you pretty much gave me enough information it compares to a person taking a car to a mechanic and saying 'my car is broke'
after looking at your post history, it seems you are having all kinds of problems with your phone.
My suggestion would be redownload your rom, put it on the sd card, then in 4ext or cwm set it to format all partitions except sd card. and then install your rom, reboot and ill bet your problems go away.

Well, I actually did search this problem I'm having when I first had it a couple weeks ago and I found a solution which was to delete a file in the system or SD card but I can no longer find it, hence the reason why I am asking for help on this.
I was able to install apps or APK files fine before I restored all my SMS and MMS messages but now I can't. I doubt it has anything to do with the ROM because it was working perfectly fine. And even after I restored all the messages, I know I have enough internal storage to install an application.
Now, what your saying is it too backup my ROM then format all partitions except the SD card. Whenever I try to back up a ROM, I don't understand why it takes up so much memory which causes it to have an error when it's in the process of backing up because of no more memory. The android secure folder that's on my SD card gets backed up with the ROM which is a big file and that's what causes it to have an error. That is when I have about 1.2gb free to backup. And people say when you backup ROMs it shouldn't be over a gig.
My ROM is Android Revolution HD 7.0.4

Problem will occur if u are restoring sms messages from a rom that isnt based on sense (like cm7, redemption, etc etc) unless you are using an app to do that like sms restore or gosms, for some reason ive had issues when i had TiBu do that for me.
I personally never backup and restore anything, sucks losing stuff but it is honestly the only way to create a clean environment. Backing up a rom takes up so much because (i could be mistaken) when you do a imaged backup from cwm or 4ext it takes even your cache folders into the backup.

Even when I clear cache?
I used My Backup Pro to backup and restore my messages. Hmm.. maybe I'll just backup my ROM, partition everything except my SD, and flash it again without restoring my messages and see if that helps. Thanks.

ClockWorkMod Backup Questions

Hello all,
Coming from a Thunderbolt I was very comfortable with ClockworkMod Recovery, I backed up and flashed often through recovery.
On this VZW S3 upon rooting and installing CWMR standard version 5.8.something my backups were only going to the internal SD card and the dates were never right, always saying 1970. The file size seemed about right (1.5 gb) and there were the normal dozen of so in the backup directory.
Out of desire to backup to my external I card I tried the new EZ Recovery app which installed CWMR 6.0.1.0 I believe, the non touch version. This version would backup to the external SD card, but still had the wrong date name for the backup folder. When I browsed that folder it was only 30mb but there was another folder called blobs that was about 1.5 to 2gb.
Is this how version 6 works? I don't have much confidence that this is a good nandroid backup and that I could restore off of it.
Looking for confirmation that this is how it is to work with version 6 and/or any tips or alternatives you can offer. I want to be able to backup and restore off of my external SD card.
Thanks in advance!

That is indeed how version 6 works. As for the dats, those are sadly messed up in general I haven't seen a fix for that, but i also haven't searched for one because i know which ones are my latest and don't keep many of them anyways. As for it not backing up on 5.8 its because you have to have your SD formatted as FAT32 and exFAT (again not sure if 6.0.1.0 changes that because i formatted mine) But i did successfully backup and restore on version 6 and it worked perfectly.

Thanks Never,
I wiped the card when I first had issues backing up on 5.8. Formatted it with the phone but it still wouldn't give me the backup options. How can you check the formatting?
Wonder how multiple backups work in version 6, does it dump it together in the blobs? Or is is some more intelligent non duplication way of storing multiple backups?
Thanks again!

I formatted mine on the computer just to make sure it worked. So no idea how to check it from the phone sorry.
As for multiple backups, i've got a few backups and it always restores fine, so im assuming its got a way of knowing what goes with what.
And your welcome
Are you trying too back up through rom manager? I've given up on that. I do not have an external card, am rooted, using the latest non touch cwr. I usually boot into recovery manually or through rom manager and backup from there. Have the same issues with dates and large size. But happy to report that I go back and forth between cm10, stock, and synergy rom regularly with no problems. Also remember kexec boots 3 times, it's not a bootloop.

I boot into recovery and backup there, if I do it through Rom Manager I get no choice to backup to external SD at all, but I can in version 6 thru recovery.
Glad to hear it works OK.
What flavor of CM10 are you running and can you give me a link to the one you are using? Does Google Now with the cool voice search work well on CM10? Been dragging my feet! Might be ready to take the plunge.
I can't stand the Touchwiz crappy so cm10 was the only choice for me. Apparently the sms/mms not working but it does not effect me since I use Google voice. Very smooth. Google DROID hive forum and look for it there. It's by dhacker.
Google now working great.

I was wondering if there is somewhere or someone here in the forums that can clarify how these new back-up files work. I like to back-up my back-ups on drop-box, but now that it is creating all these files do I need to move all of these created files together or just the file with the date and time stamp? I want to flash a new rom but want to make sure my current is backed up correctly on my dropbox before doing so.
Any direction is appreciated Thanks
Phone formats to sd card to extFat. Fat32 must be done on PC. No recovery supports extFat. Kexec no longer supported by anyone once bootloader was unlocked. Haven't used Clockwork since TBolt days so don't know how Blob files affect Dropbox backup.
There is an option in CWM to turn off the blobs. I prefer to have backups that are stand-alone, so I personally turn this off.
In CWM Recovery 6.0.1.2:
backup and restore > choose backup format > tar
The two options are "dup (default)" and "tar". The "dup" option gives you the blobs folder. The idea is that it saves space when you have multiple backups. The "tar" option seems to work just like you are used to - one folder per backup.
Where does the sms folder goes?? I forgot to back up my sms using smsbackup and restore but then i was able to make a backup on cwm i like to restore my back up but when i hit restore it says md5 mismatch.. but since i was able to make a backup on cwm where i can find the right folder for sms.. cause i would like to copy it on my current rom folder so i can restore it

Backup App That will Backup Data

Sorry the title doesn't really explain it to well. I'm looking for an app that I can use to backup my applications with their data, that i can then restore after flashing CM10 to. I've tried Titanium and one other whose name escapes me. They'll backup/restore from ICS to ICS, but not to JB (backups do not show listed). Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Not really sure what I could be doing wrong. I've run it as a batch job backing up all user apps, tried it with all user apps + system data. I've also made its own folder on my SD card and point backups to go there.
The bigger issue is the apps themselves get backed up, but none of the stored data with the apps do.. not sure if there's an option I need for that (guess it'd be cache?)

Someone yesterday in another thread said that Titanium backups are saved to the sd card for touchwiz roms and for AOSP roms Titanium Backups need to be saved to the internal sd card. Could that be the problem?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
I've used Titanium pro from ICS to JB with no issues. I don't do batch restores though, I'd prefer to re-download the app from google play then just restore the data. That way you have a clean install. I've had issues on other devices doing a batch restore. It's a little slower this way, but worth it to avoid FCs.
You have to remember that if you set the backup to the extSD then switch from ICS to JB the name of the extSD changes and you have to go into preferences and choose the backup location. That may solve the issue for you
I think the issue here is not fully understanding how titanium backup works. Whenever a full wipe is done/new rom installed and you reinstall titanium through the play store, it will show only the apps and data that are currently installed on that particular rom. Push the batch button, let it calculate scenarios, and your backed up apps and data will then appear along with the new rom's goodies. Hope that helps.

[Q] Recovering Applications on the samsung galaxy tab 2 10.1

Please bare with me since I am still learning about android and so my question is, how can I recover my applications from my tablet after I have rooted it.
I flashed cyanogen 9 to my SGT2.10.1 and it was successful, although I am stuck on trying to recover my applications from the partition internal memory. Of course I have done a variety of steps to recover them and some of the steps I took are:
1. I tried using the spk tool - I really do not know how to use it and I am having a hard time figuring it out
2. Trying to delete and reformat the internal memory - was not successful since it only erased of what I currently had on the rooted and partitioned memory, thus my original/stock application are still within the internal memory.
3. I tried using applications such PC36IMG-AmonRA-3.07-gnm.zip - I changed the name to PC36IMG but flashing it lead to installation fail/aborted
4. I tried recovering them with titanium back up - but the application couldn't see my original/stock applications
5. Also tried using Astro File manager - Same results as TBU
6. Deleting the files from my pc via usb- it does not give me an option to reformat it
Any suggestions? this is the final step that I need to complete to finally enjoy my retarded galaxy tab 2
Hi. I always use titanium backup and never had problems with it - what do you mean by "couldn't see my original applications"? Did you make a backup of the applications prior to flashing CM? If you did so and you didn't format the sdcard (the "TitaniumBackup" folder" resides by default on the internal sdcard), you should still have all your backups there, and you should be able to restore them.
Are you trying to get the same apps you had on stock prior to flashing CM9? If so, did you back up prior to flashing?
Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk 2
it is recommended that you dont use titanium back up to restore your apps. you will have to reinstall from scratch. that is on the cm9 instructions.
just for future reference, you will need to download tbu from the market, install it then try to use the back up to reinstall your apps. or you can create a zip file from within tbu which you can install using cwm but do it after your rom is working

I did not back it, I also did not delete them before flashing CM which i truly regret. Since my stock applications/original applications take up 8 gigs of my internal memory out of 13. The 8 gigs of memory/apps, I have no access or whatsoever.... I succesfully rooted and flashed CM and GAAP the only thing is left for me is to restore this applications or delete them so I can finally utilize my tablet.
Please help me
any suggestions are all welcome as long as my tablet not end being brick.

Impossible, im pretty sure those 8 gigs can only be my stock applications? what else can it be? I mean you do not actually think cyanogen 9 is worth 9 gigs? I have nothing in my current OS.
They cannot be good since I can fully see the memory being occupied, I am just having a difficult time accessing and recovering those stock applications.
I can't believe no one knows how to do this in this thread....
