[Q] Encryption on Virtuous Saga unsuccessful - HTC Desire S

i was expecting ICS on Desire S very much because of the possibility of the storage encryption but it seems not to be working on the leaked rom. everytime i want to enable it on this rom it ends up with "encryption unsuccsessful" massage. anyone managed to do it?

You need to format /data with a recovery which has this patch included:
https://github.com/CyanogenMod/andr...mmit/e5dfd9a3a46afe40df8e7ad7f2d49c978bcb6687
On our device, there isn't a dedicated place to store the encryption information so the last 16kb of /data is used. If this space isn't free, encryption will fail.
Be aware, when testing CM9 encryption using the old 2.6.35 kernel, encryption fails half-way through and you have to format /data to recover. Make sure you take a backup just in-case the leaked kernel has the same issue.

Isn't that decreasing performance?
If so, how much?

The same problem for me... I need to encrypt both sd external card and internal storage... I have not found any ICS ROM with working encryption. Could you please provide more details re above recovery solution? Thanks a lot!

[Q] Insufficient storage available-Installation errors & other aggravations?

Hey all, I've been getting "Insufficient storage available - Installation errors" eventhough I have a 32GB sdcard (but only 30MB of internal storage & yes I've moved all existing installed possible apps to sdcard, cleared caches & unmounted-remounted sdcard), what's the best way to resolve this?
I'm still running 2.2 unrooted but considering rooting soon & maybe cm7 or other rom but I'm not sure I want to risk issues when I need it working..
Also notice it is slow to respond upon reboot, maybe due to apps trying to update but encountering the insufficient storage available installation error..
-Appreciate helpful replies
yeah it happened with me too then i tried some customROM on my phone,
btw what phone do you have?

Thanks for clueing me into the fact that I was no longer in the EVO 4G forum, it must have taken me out there after logging in. I'll root & customROM at some point or if necessary but was curious if there is a fix without that. Maybe someone can still help here but I've since started this Q in the EVO 4G Q&A:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195992

[Q] EXT2/ext3/ext4

It seems to me that every ROM has its pecularities (undocumented) for its required
external data storage (EXT2/EXT3 EXT4=completely magic)
so that for every rom you need a specifi SCARD FORMAT PROCEDURE where all data
is completely LOST
as the user does not know hos the SDcard should be formatted ????!!!!
All turns in big Guesswork right is this relialbe??? professional ????

Any solution for Low Internal Space?

Heyy Everyone,
I am running CM9 ROM on my HTC Chacha,is there any solution for low internal memory? Can i install apps directly to Extsd instead of Internal memory, please anyone help me..it's really Annoying
Wrong section. This is a question for General. And yes, there is. You can also find solutions in the CM9 thread (I wrote one of them).
Where is that tutorial and does it apply to HTC Chacha?

It's not a tutorial, but basically amounts to install Link2SD.
I myself use D2EXT from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1716124
It works nicely. But don't delete dalvik cache with it installed as you will get bootloops. It's not hard to fix, though, but you will need a computer and adb installed. So just don't delete the dalvik cache and you will be fine.
To install it, you will need to partition your SD card and create an ext4 partition. You will lose everything on your SD, so make a backup first.
Use the guide on the link I posted . You will need a fast SD card.
And next time use the general forum.
Good luck.
http://www.link2sd.info/faq should answer your doubts. Its the bestest way out there.

Custom ROM with encryption support

Hi,
Can anyone advice me a customer ROM (ideally ICS) which is compliant with security policy and can handle internal and external storage encryption? I have tried Fallout and ProjectX with no success (external storage after encryption mounted as read only, internal storage encryption always ends up with an error...).
Thanks a lot.
Regards
Krata
I don't know about any ROM has this built in service, but you can try some apps that give you the functionality you want. Check out dm-crypt.

Hi, there is a built in service in all ICS ROMs (under settings - storage - internal storage encryption & external storage encryption. The problem is that these are not working on Desire S (external storage is afer encryption mounted as read only, internal storage encryption ends up with an error and a request for restart & factory reset. External application cannot be used for Exchange security policy purposes...

You'll probably find that the problem is caused by the same reason as every other problem we currently have with the ICS/JB ROMs on the DesireS - we don't have the official kernel v3.x yet. Once we have that and the devs can start building 100% working Custom ROMs then you might (and I stress that word) get what you are looking for.
Ok, thanks, hope that htc will release source code quickly...

New ROM and internal storage

Hi there,
Just a small question: When I install a custom ROM, does it keep my data on the internal storage? I'm asking because of the encryption and I thought it could happen, that the new/custom ROM is not able to decrypt this part of the data.
Thanks
I haven't done enough flashing on my Pixel to say with certainty one way or another, but I believe it does keep the internal storage data between ROM flashes just fine. However, I don't fool with anything but PureNexus as far as custom ROMs, so it might depend on what ROM you're coming from and going to. I never flash anything major without backing up internal storage, anyway, and that's what I would suggest. After all, for every rule there's always an exception and it's better not to regret. Good luck!
