You install the Rom first.
By apps, you probably mean Gapps (Google apps).
What you install first of Gapps or Kernel doesnt matter. But Rom comes first offcourse.
No reboots are required in between...

Sorry to beat a dead horse but I have to ask. Ive receive some good advice on how to do this but I'm still not total clear on the procedure. I'm currently running infused 1.5 and would like to update to newest version. In lamins terms what are the exact steps. I've referanced the dev section but all I really see is how to install from stock. When I referenced the dev page I noticed and downloaded the full infused 1.5.2 and when I looked into root manager its listed as whitesmoke installer. If that's what I need than I suppose I need instructions from this point on. Thanks.

MUCH easier and faster way is simply go to free ROM Manager, go to gtg and download 1.5.0 to 1.5.2 update only which is under 3MB, then phone will auto reboot and install everything. Takes less than 2 minutes.

That's what I thought but I think I was told not to use rom manager, I think I was told that because of the possibility of green text but I'm red so maybe I could have used rom manager. Any who, I installed the new version and it was pretty painless. I'm kind of upset in a small way, I lost the slide unlock and slide to silent, it went back to the original slide. Any way to get it back?

Please search before opening a new thread. It is a well known fact that CM roms do not include any Google apps at all. Find the proper zip file for your rom and flash it.
Wiping your data will also not wipe you back ups as they are saved to your sdcard..the only way they would have been deleted is if you manaully deleted them off your sdcard

Come on dude do some research and stop spamming, gapps is literally inn the thread you got the ROM from (assuming you didn't use ROM manager)

I want to overclock and install the custom kernel by SebastianFM to overclock to 1.5ghz but have no idea how to do so. I understand that I have to flash from clockworkmod's recovery menu but don't know what that means. Is anybody able to give a step by step walk through flashing this? PLEASE HELP!
Thanks.
1.) Download the kernel
2.) Copy and paste it onto your SD Card
3.) Boot into recovery (you can do this with the Quick Boot app from the Market)
4.) Select the kernel and flash it
5.) Download No-Frills CPU or SetCpu
6.) Select your speed using the app.
7.) If you get reboots or freezing etc then it means your CPU can't handle the speed
8.) If it can then enjoy.
Im running mine stock and its fast

I attempted to flash the sensation and sensation xe kernel as an update install from zip where I select the long file name from within the root of the SD card. As a result the error message is that the kernel can't be opened and installation gets aborted. Is it possible I picked the wrong kernel or do I have to rename it?

You need to select the zip to install (can't remember the exact works in CWM), not the update.
BEFORE you do anything make sure you do a Nandroid backup of the phone first, just in case **** happens.
Picked wrong install. Got correct one. Installed via zip in recovery of clockwork mod. Works like a charm!

Do you think the reason was the new Frimware(Hboot)?
You musst look in the Rom.ZIP and Check that there is an Boot.img ... I had the Same Problem because the Rom was for two devices and there was an Kernel folder with two Boot.img for Sensation and EVO 3D. Try to install opensensation this Rom works

Briefly, a boot loader is the first software program that runs when a computer starts. ... See Obtaining and Building GRUB, for more information. ... will simply result in immediate failure and an error message reporting the problem. ... is available to edit any preset commands, or write a new boot command set from scratch...

Here's the fix:
1) Have Bootmanager installed.
2) Reboot into recovery and backup your current ROM.
3) In recovery, wipe your phone.
4) Install the ROM you want to have in boot manager.
5) Boot it once.
6) Reboot in recovery and backup your installed ROM again.
7) Restore your previous ROM using recovery
8) Boot into your ROM and load Boot Manager
9) Find an empty slot, click Manage Slot and click "Restore Nandroid"
10) Pick the ROM you backed up before from /clockworkmod/Backups
Done
It's a PITA, but it's the only way i could install ROM's such as the new Sense 4 ports.
Press Thanks if it helped.
Disable SU logging
I used to have the same problem until i disabled su logging in the phone's rom.

I still get the error, but it says it edited the boot.img > cleaning up > error = wtf??
seems i am missing /data/local/tmp/edit.sh, but it is there in the folder.
any ideas?
looking at the permissions, it seems edit.sh isn't set to exec.
Edit: fix is set install to internal.

How do I set install to internal? I'm having same problem on my HTC Chacha..
This is a mostly functional CM7 build for the Motorola Defy Pro XT560. There is a little lag when recording high quality videos, but, everything else should be functional. Use the instructions below for installing. If you run into any issues you can always use one of the SBF files from this thread to recover. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2520124
Use at your own risk. Please back up any important data before installing.
1. Root phone
2. Extract the attached zip and run the Bootmenu installer (BootInstall.bat) with the phone connected..
3. Reboot into stock recovery and clear cache/data (backup anything wanted first).
4. Reboot normally from recovery, this will take you into CWM.
5. In CWM select recovery/custom recovery.
6. Select install zip from sd card then choose zip from sd card and select and install the xt560_cm7.zip
7. Select choose zip and install gapps.
8. Select back and reboot system.
The rom can be downloaded from http://www.sendspace.com/file/gakl1i
The button of the volume (+) is had to me broken. It fixes so soon it, will install this ROM.
exists some way to enter boot recovery without pressing the three buttons at the same time?

Awesome to see this phone get some love. Any reason I should try this rom over a de-bloated, rooted stock rom? Id personally rather get a newer android version unless cm7 offers a lot of benefit over stock.
Thanks for all the hard work!
