Are you HTCDev Unlocked? If yes, then you need to flash boot.img manually from fastboot.
As for the rum developed by virtuous, I don't think they've managed to cook up Sense 6.3 yet.

Security-off is need.
Clockwork mod recovery is need.
Double wipe (data & cache) before restore is need.

Yes I unlocked HTCDev. I flash boot.img manually from fastboot.
I did this procedure many times with success. I installed and tried almost all of roms (İCS + Sense 4). I tried roms (İCS + Sense 4). After that I've restored the original backup and it worked. I install the latest rom (Virtuous Saga v.1.0.0 [3.04.401.1][Sense 3.6 Android 4.0.4]) and it worked. Rom did not work when I install the rom (Orjinal Backup rom) again. When I shall see the HTC logo on the phone. After waiting out a little off and I face Clockworkmod program.

When you restore backup, you still need to flash kernel from the backup manually. Restoring backup doesn't help.
If you restored backup and it worked - it worked because the backup could work with a different kernel.
And stock backup can't run with ICS kernel.

How to install Kernel with stock rom

Hello,
ich have a desire s. I have s-off und root. I dont want to install a custom rom but woulg like to have a new kernel to oc the cpu...i would prefer the "Unity V9".
So my question:
How can i install the kernel on a stock rom ?
Thx
Mace
Just like on a custom one (put the .zip on the sdcard, go into recovery, wipe cache, dalvik-cache, install .zip from sdcard, reboot the phone). Easiest way is to use a custom recovery (CWM or 4EXT). Useful links here
THX for the answear
And the Unity V9 kernel works with the stock rom ? there are no problems?
Do i have to do any backups because of wping cache und dalvik?
Do a Nandroid backup if you like (recommended).
At the Unity V9 thread it is stated:
Compatible with:
All Sense ROM's based on Android 2.3.4 - 2.3.5 >
i just ried it and it sais "Installation aborted" Status 7
what can i do?
and which kernel would you recommend to me?
Check in your Settings - probably you are on Android 2.3.3 still.
Also check the MD5 Sum of the kernel.

Ok thx, i have 2.3.3 so i have to take another kernel...
Does the Tiamat support 2.3.3 ?
I just realized that my wifi does not work anymore... it sais "error" at the wifi settings ?
What can i do now?
Reboot the phone. If it is not working and you have remembered WiFi networks, delete and add them again.
If you receive an error still restore you Nand backup (if you have one).
Or just check your kernel version in the settings and download the same kernel from here and reflash

[Q] ClockWorkMod recovery "Error while restoring /system!"

Well i am new to android custom ROM i was using my official gingerbread 2.3.6, I rooted my samsung galaxy ace and installed Clock work mod Recovery v5.0.2.6
I took the complete back up of my android os using it with reference to some youtube tutorials. Everything went fine and it showed backup sucessfully created like in the video. I even could install a custom ROM and run it on my phone.
When i started to restore from my backup ... during the time when it is restoring system , after a while it shows the error "Error while restoring /system!"
can anyone help me out to get my official copy of gingerbread back....??
Any HELP is appreciated....!!!!
Thank you in advance...
You can only use CWM to restore the system image for the Rom you're currently on. You need to flash back to GB and then use your nandroid to restore your setup.
Did you installed ICS firmware? Because gingerbeard can't run on ICS firmware
Hey thanks for the help.....
i got the problem fixed by installing gingerbread os first and then recovered from clockwork mod recovery......
Now i have all my files and same os that i have backed up!!!
Is it so that you cant resotre a ICS backup when current roms is Jelly Bean?

Ok, then I have to look for a ARHD 4.1.0 version. (android 4.0.4).

I am having the same error. On Lollipop custom rom, trying to restore Kitkat CWM backup. Then, i get error while restoring /system. So, I flash the same custom kitkat rom, where my backup is based on. Reboot and went through initial rom setup and confirmed it's running Kitkat and same firmware as the CWM backup I was trying to restore. Reboot in Philz CWM and proceed to restoring that back up and i am having the exact same error (error while restoring /system!). I checked on the CWM log, it says "tar: invalid tar magic". Does anyone have any idea?

[Q] twrp recovery

Good day XDA forums,
If I restore a TWRP recovery, do I need the original kernal? I tried restoring Nocturnals Jelly Bean that I backed up in recovery. It did not work without me restoring the kernal through ADB from the ROM first. The reason i'm asking is because I do not have the original kernal, although I do have a backup through TWRP of the original ROM.
you still need to fastboot the kernel for whatever rom your a restoring. i would definitely install flashimagegui to allow on the fly kernel flashing. just make sure to flash kernel beforehand or you will have to find a pc.

Cant restore backup

I made a backup on my phone in TWRP and wanted to restore it to get some contact info that I forgot to upload to my Google account. Anywho, I go into recovery and wipe me squeeky clean then restore the backup. It goes through like normal and I boot up but it doesn't get bassed the HTC splash screen. It turns to a black screen that occasionally has a white/grey bar at the top. I loaded a different backup I had and am running fine, but I still need that contact info.
Any ideas as to get the back up to work or if it is no use?

What hboot do you have?
If its 1.14 and you're switching ROMS (your backup is of a different ROM to the last ROM you were using) you might have to fastboot flash the boot.img of the ROM you're recovering.
i think it is a kernel issue
I had to downgrade from jb to ics and I wiped clean, I run into the same problem, I realized jb uses a different kernel, wipe clean flash your choosen Rom kernel update first and then your Rom, it worked for me hopefully works for you

where can i get the stock boot.img or the stock one x 2.20 image to extract the boot.img?
thanks!
is this it?
would this work?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1812459
if i download the odexed stock rooted rom and extract the boot.img, i can flash that to boot, and then run twrp restore to my backed up stock rooted rom, right?
my stock rooted rom was at&t 2.20 firmware.
Hoping I understood you correct, you basically need to flash a kernel first, so I am guessing you can use flar kernel,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1967897
and that should be the stock kernel on steroids, however if that were not to work he has a kernel for jb phones, so I would start by these first.
I really had this issue where I could see my phone in a brick state mode then flashed the right kernel for the right rom, and boom it worked like a charm.

[Q] Unable to restore TWRP backup

Hi all.
I unlocked my DS (4.0.4) using Desire S All-In-One kit 2.0, flashed TWRP, and rooted. Phone is S-ON
I took a backup with TWRP, and flashed a new ROM. After the flash, I also flashed the boot.img as I read in the XDA forums and elsewhere.
Everything went fine, I flashed anothe ROM, same procedure, no problem.
After playing with ROMs, I decided to restore the TWRP backup I took before starting.
It just boots into TWRP again. I tried flashing the stock boot.img (which I extracted from the official EU 4.0.4 RUU), but no luck. The phone stays at a black screen after the HTC logo.
I can flash any other ROM, flash the boot.img and I am good to go, I just cannot restore my backup.
Any solutions?
in order to restore backup, you have to flash your backup and the corresponding boot.img

I did.
After the restore, I flashed the boot.img in the official RUU.
That's all I have anyway, as the one in the backup is in a different format (it has a different size anyway).
Is there another source I can get the ICS boot.img to flash?
I tried some other boot images and it didn't work.
As an experiment, I tried restoring another twrp backup from another rom I tried before, and it also didn't work, even after flashing its own boot.img it originally came with.
Today I tried a method of just booting into recovery (temporary recovery) which has (allegedly) the ability to restore the kernel, with no luck.
I can only restore with the same rom.
