What is this? - HTC One S

It doesn't look like a One S, but then it does...
http://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/mob/3038342211.html

Its a EU One S hence the color.

I saw this one in person because the person originaly said he was selling a global One X.
The back cover comes off and you can change batteries. Not being familiar with the One S, I didn't think to scrutinize it, but I remember seeing the charging port and an micro HDMI port on the left side of the phone.
It has 3 capacitive buttons like the newer HTCs. No branding on the front. Also, the front camera is not in the bezel next to the speaker, but in the glass. The speakerphone speaker is not at the bottom on the back like the One S pictures I've seen.
Is it a fake?

The guy just sent me a picture of the settings.

It doesnt even look like a One S. The LED flash is on the wrong side as well, the back just doesnt look right. The picture shows the model being HTC Endeavor which was the rumored name of the HTC One X. My guess is that it probably is a fake.

Yeah, it just looks weird. I'm starting to think it's a fake too. Both batteries were dead when I met up with him so I couldn't see it power up. He says he got it from a guy on CL and it was sold to him as a One X, LOL.
Here's a fake HTC One S, but it doesn't look like this one.

Is there anything the chinese cannot do??
I know its a fake, but its still impressive non the less.
obviously i wouldnt buy it, But that doesnt mean its a bad phone.... but good luck trying to find a section for it on XDA lol

This is Beats headphones isn't it ? So it definitely can't be a One S. And the menu doesn't look like Sense 4...

Also there shouldn't even be a battery that comes with it because you cannot replace of it because of the unibody build HTC designed. A big giveaway that its fake. Nice to make people aware of where they buy their stuff from

Oh look, it supports microSD cards
*runs*

Amusing to know that there are fakes around, but unfortunately there's nothing I can do to prevent someone from being duped into buying this.

Just a few questions

I'm totally going to upgrade to a One phone. I'm on T-Mobile, and I'm kinda sad we won't get the MOA black version. But I'm curious, aside from its strength what other advantages will the MOA get compared to the Grey anodized version?
I'm case I decided to get the One X, will either of those versions get T-Mobile faster 4G?
And correct me if I'm wrong but.. The One X and One S here in the US is practically the same phone, the only difference being screen type and size (obviously resolution) and battery??
Also, I love the screen on my brothers Galaxy S 4G, is the One S similar, worse or better than that?
Does the T-Mobile version have dual microphone? One regular and one noise canceling?
Sorry, but no the One S and the One X aren't even close. The S uses an S4 chip, while the One X uses the Tegra3. Now if you meant the AT&T version (which is the One XL), then they are the same other than the screen type/size, battery, and I think the XL will still have 32GB memory unlike the 16GB on the S. Of course I'm half asleep making this post so please forgive me if I was/am wrong on any of that. As far as the mic goes I'm not sure.
On a side note I hate the fact T-Mobile isn't getting the MAO version.
I think the one xl, has a dual core processor, not sure of that, but I think i heard it somewhere. If that's true, i recommend de one s, as it's cheaper, and still an awesome phone.
Sent from a potato via tapatalk
Yeah I was referring to the One XL. I seriously hope the One S does have dual microphones. That would at least save it a bit from lack of MOA

I'm on Tmobile USA. The more I debate between the One S and the One XL. The more I lean towards the One XL which should work on Tmobile. One XL has an HD screen and a bigger screen over the One S. Plus the Front Facing camera is a tad better on the One XL.
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using xda premium
I'm on T-Mobile too, and the only reason I'm considering getting the One S is due to price. I have an extra line on my account. My mom wants to put my dad in my account so that the whole family will be in my account. Obviously the phone would be way cheaper, especially if I go to Sams club or Costco.
If I get the One X I'm paying full retail, and there's no guarantee they'll sell it to me the week it is released cause they give preference to their customers or new customers.
Not to mention, don't know how long it'll take for them to get me an unlock code.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G XE with Beats Audio using XDA
I'm wondering if anyone knows if it's using the same TI wifi chip as the Amaze. That really hindered dev. on that phone since HTC isn't releasing the source for that.
How do we know that we are not getting the black version?
Alright I work at T-Mobile and my boss has a friend in tmobile that actually had a meeting with a HTC guy and he even held the one s he told me wonders about it but he also told me that in 2-4 months from release the black one will actually come to tmobile and that it was already confirmed so Id rather wait for the black one

folks that sounds crazy.. waitin for a device for about several months just for another color?! i can understand that this is important - i personally would never buy the silver one, luckily living in Germany where it's no prob to get the black one - but in this case: i would order it somewhere else or live with it

i probably would not wait 2-3 month for the black version over the grey one myself however i can understand if someone does! first of all it's not only the color (and the more beautiful look) but also the texture and improved durability. if someone wants to keep the phone for 2 years maybe waiting 2 more month and actually get what you want might not be so crazy ... aside from that i consider myself also lucky living in a country wher the black unlocked version is already available
I can completely understand that it's an issue. just as mentioned: i wouldn't buy the gradient metal version either. but since i'm quite impatient i would definitely try ANY workaround but ok, i'm quite lucky not having to deal with this.. hope for you guys over there, that t-mobile is a bit quicker
Just to b clear we are all preety much coworkers I was just emphazising on the fact that it is someone ranked up to be tmobile's manager of all the tmobile dealers in my area he's not just a tmo sales rep like me and I dont even like my boss that much anyways

[Q] Upgrade this month? What to do

I have an upgrade this month on AT&T. Its actually on my granpas phone number because we added him to ours and I could use that upgrade.
What should I do? I almost thought about getting the s3 just to try out and see what its like, but I just hate the look of it and haven't had good service with samsung before.
Also thought about getting iphone 5. I know a good bit about iPhones like jailbreaking and all that good stuff. But I am really an android guy. I could get it for my girlfriend which currently has iphone 4 and sell her iphone 4 possibly.
I would be the one jailbreaking it and all the fun stuff with it lol.
Or should I just wait? Is anything good coming out soon?

HTC One X+ is coming out (One X with a quad core, 2100mAh battery, 64GB storage). That would be a good choice.
Galaxy Note 2 is supposedly coming to AT&T if you like big displays. (Quad core, 2GB of Ram, sd slot)
And then there is a lot of Nexus rumors flying about.
Personally, I would wait and get one of those.
Have you seen the iPhone 5 in person? Its pretty underwhelming. Disappointing, really. It looks almost exactly like the iPhone 4. Just the screen is 1/2 inch longer in portrait orientation, which makes it 16:9 in landscape (for watching HD television programs). It also gives it a goofy long "candy bar" shape compared to most every other smartphone out there. Slightly faster CPU, a bit thinner, and aluminum back (instead of glass). But otherwise its the same old same old. It really brings nothing new to the series. Also, the screen is still so small, it seems like a joke now that I'm accustomed to the One X.
GS3 is not a bad phone, and great dev activity. I might consider it. But we're already a few month along into that phone's cycle. So I wouldn't be surprised if an incremental update is not released on AT&T. Or the Note 2 may be an option for you.
I might consider the One X+, given its an incremental improvement on an already stellar phone. And its coming out on AT&T with 64 GB of storage. But given the bootloader unlock ituation on 2.20, I might wait and see how locked down any future HTC device on AT&T is before a purchase. Or wait for a dev community root/unlock solution before buying.
I haven't seen Iphone 5 in person. I have heard rumors bout the one x. Didn't know it would be worth the upgrade. It would have a lot of the same roms as this wouldn't it? Any info on a date on it?

The One X+ would be worth the upgrade (not the One X which has been out for 4 months now). It should be shipping this month.
And no it will have different ROMs and you will not be able to use the ROMs for the current AT&T version. Different chipset. You will brick your phone.

Looked up some pics of the phone and not a big fan of that red ring on the back camera. Everything else can be covered with a case. But that is just tacky to me lol.
Windows phones are useless. Apple devices make no sense whatsoever. Android is so much easier.
Ever since growing up with Macintosh computers in 80s and 90s and the desire to napalm the original iMac my mother purchased. I find Apple appalling in every way fathomable.
I would atleast wait to see how the Jellybean rom is for the hoxl.

Red is pretty signature for Verizon Droid phones. I'm guessing it will be removed on the AT&T version.
I would wait. There are a lot of phones rumored to come. Like the Samsung s3 but with a smaller screen, HTC one x+, lumia 920(with amazing camera), a new nexus, and the note 2, as well as LG G phone with the new built in LCD screen. A lot of choices.

[Q] HTC One XL vs Galaxy Note 2

Guys I currently own the HTC One XL and i have heard it for 3 months. For some reason I bought the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 because of all the new features it has nd in a way is better than the XL. I'm crying coz i used my credit card and I dont know if i made a ****ty decision or this is alright. Would any of you trade the One XL for the Galaxy Note 2? it has been improved greatly nd i was sucked into it. What are your thoughts?
I would not. The main reason is the screen on the hox is perfect for my hand. The note is just too big.

If your into phablets... That's the way for your but as I can see your semi new tech phone hungry. You could get the one x + same screen size I mean if your going to get a new phone should get wait and Get tthat seems like a monster and it will be very much. The vest phone at that time IMHO

Rumors are the Note 2 won't have as much dev support because Exynos are so poorly documented and all of the source code is released. I believe CM10 will not be officially supported.
Other than that, I actually was going to go to a Note 2. They got rid of the pentile matrix in the OLED so the screen looks fantastic (although I would still say the One X is a little better because I think LCDs look a little better) and the specs are fantastic.

Arghhh mixed feelings, now kinda regretting my purchase. One XL is awesome no doubt about that but this feature here:
And other million more features on the Note, i got sucked so badly. FML, i can hardly sleep atm, in a huge dilemma to see which one i can keep. I guess i will know once i have the NOte 2 in my hands.
I'd rather wait for the HTC One X5 (aka Google Nexus 5), since at least it will be made with quality material and feel it's worth its cost in the hand.
The One X is so pleasing to have, it's almost fetishism.
I have had 2 samsung, so I've been there... :S

what kind of return period do you have? here in the US at AT&T, we get 30 days. I'd say be really careful and try it out (use it as your main phone) for the period you have, and then return when that time period is almost up if you still don't like it.
I'm half tempted to try one but I just think they are too big. The first Note was too odd shaped and too big, and this phone is even bigger... so, I'll likely stick with the One XL.
I got a week old hox, I'll trade you in a heartbeat.

Choosing between the One S and Samsung Blaze

I've searched far and wide but it doesn't seem there are any proper comparisons between these two phones. I'd like to hear from those who have used both.
I have both phones new in front of me (ebay). The HTC one S wins in the pretty contest by a longshot. Metal body > plastic/rubber.
But on the flipside, the one S seems a bit too large (screenwise) to comfortably type with one hand and pull down the notification bar. The blaze is much easier to handle.
So besides the casing quality, is there a reason the One S is better? The audio and video sound/look roughly the same when I play youtube videos concurrently. Will I get used to the slippery tall body? Will a giztronic case help with the hand-hold, or does that just make it wider?
After rooting/romming, the blaze has reported to last 1.5 days on battery. I've heard the one s is better, but how much?
Thanks!
EDIT: made thread title duller.
I'd like to say one thing based on your title "Convince me to keep the One S over the samsung Blaze". It's not a sales job. If you don't want the One S, then you are free to choose so. It's not like we care if you get it or not.
HTC > Samsung when it comes to material/design.
Watch reviews on both phones. If you ask about a One S in the One S forum, of course people will tell you to get it.
Overall, you choose. Not our job to convince you.

Not being negative. Trying to show you that your title throws people off. If you reworded it as "Help choosing between a One S or Samsung Blaze", then that would be another story. Saying "Convince me" makes you seem entitled and that we should care whether you stay or leave.
The processor on the one s is also better, screen us higher res and the camera is better. U am not sure if the blaze runs ics but one s should have ics and hopefully soon jelyly hean.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
The One S got both ICS and JB, its had ICS for a very long time. JB is still quite new though.
Then we got AOSP roms which brings it up to JB 4.2 if you want.
As for the OP's question... Im not even gonna bother answering that, its just pointless.
Buy whatever you want - no one can tell you what to buy. And since this is the S forum, obviously the majority of us favors the S over any other device.
If you are buying htc one s be careful and buy S4 version of it.
I thought the same thing about the screen and one hand with the One S. After like a week or two, it feels perfect. Not big at all, and very comfortable to type on 1 hand. No issues pulling notification bar down either.
If I were you, I'd go with the One S.
That's my 2 cents.

After using the one s a couple days, I agree. I'm keeping the one s.
What did it in for me was the sound quality with headphones.
The blaze has the mediocre speaker and headphone quality I've come to accept from smartphones. The One S's speaker is only marginally better, but with headphones... fantastic! I get no background static or "white noise" with my high quality IEMs. I can use Tune-in, Pandora, etc.. over my MP3 player without a trade off in sound quality.
That was the kind of answer I was looking for. Thanks Syntax for playing along with my "pointless" thread.
EDIT: One knock on the One S, the screen is much more vulnerable to small scratches from phantom sources. My phone went from mint to well used in only a couple hours of using my finger.
do you have sand paper for fingers?
I have maybe 3 very minor scratches that you can only see with the screen off and turning the phone to try and find them, and i've owned it over 5 months without a screen protector...
I had the same choice with T-Mobile and I would be lost without my One S... Much better phone
Go buy a zagg screen protector and you wont have to worry about scratches or anything within reason messing up your screen.:good:
and this is not a pointless thread, its a valid question

Black HTC One mini Leaked Images

Hey Everyone!
I couldn't fund any better place than to share it here, please point me out to another section if this isn't the right one. I myself haven't still got my hands onto the HTC One so i thought maybe i should ask in this forum that how has your experience with the HTC One been? Do you like it? How many of you want a smaller HTC One like the HTC One Mini? Thanks for all your help. Looking forward to a constructive discussion.
Update 18/7/13: Just in case you guys missed it, HTC One mini has been officially launched by HTC
The One is a great phone. The only advantage of a smaller one could be better battery life? Not sure what battery is going into the mini?

That looks a better idea to me, having it recessed.
Noticed that it also has the flash on top of the lens, is that a new placement?
My One has the flash to the side of the lens. Might be because mine is the silver model or because it's the UK model?

Ah you're right, that is different as well.
I wish the camera was recessed in the One. I would use a skin on the back and go caseless if it was like that.

The camera looks slightly recessed in the picture. Interesting.

Sure, No Problem

That looks a better idea to me, having it recessed.
Noticed that it also has the flash on top of the lens, is that a new placement?
My One has the flash to the side of the lens. Might be because mine is the silver model or because it's the UK model?

Its because its HTC One mini, it not due to different color or model
The mini probably will have equal battery life, I'm sure there'll be a smaller battery.

I didn't think about it that way before
I'm the only one thinking that a Mini version is useless?

I wouldn't say it useless, it would be cheaper so i would love to buy it maybe
I just got my One yesterday and I was initially unsure whether I would like the size. After having hands-on time with it I actually really like the size. I'm coming from an original HTC EVO 4G and what I find amazing is that even though the One is larger it feels like it weighs slightly less. The only real dislike I have is the placement of the power button... kind of wish it was on one of the sides as it takes some finger stretching to get to when holding in one hand.
BTW, I should mention that my wife also got an iPhone 5 yesterday as well and the One just totally puts it to shame IMO. Somehow the screen on the iPhone 5 seems smaller than my old HTC EVO 4G and it definitely doesn't "pop" as much to the eye as the One. I was honestly kind of surprised in the disparity. And for the record I own a Mac Mini, iPad, and MacBook Pro so it's not like I'm anti-Apple or anything, but when it comes to phones I think Android, in particular the One, just eat the iPhone for lunch.

Lol what makes you say that? HTC One Mini if it is just a smaller HTC One has the potential to be just as successful. That size market is quite large and I imagine would appeal to a lot of people.
My only concern is if they changed the Mini to a plastic body. Hopefully they keep the metal unibody.

My sister loves the one except she thinks it is too big. Her husband has a one so she has played with it for a while. She was thrilled when I told her a mini was coming out. She is also coming from an iPhone 4s so that could be apart of the size issue.
So the mini has its place but just not for me.

Plastic pieces are just on front i guess. Rest is a metallic unibody
Phone won't be useless, I want to upgrade my old Desire and this is probably what I'm looking for! I like design, I like it being small (although it's not too "mini", better than big brother). Rumoured specs are fine (especially for Desire owner, I won't play demanding 3D games anyway and it has smaller resolution than One to compensate). Hope to see the price soon.
