Factory reset Desire S rooted - HTC Desire S

hi. My Desire S is S-OFF and rooted, and it's running endymion ROM, what will happen if i factory reset the phone? Will i lose my root? Will it go back to S-ON? What will happen to the phone after doing a factory reset? Thanks!

All the data on your phone such as all apps, wallpapers, any settings that you changed, etcwill be erased.
Your device will still remain rooted and s-off after the Factory reset. If this helps, please use the thank

Are you sure? It will still have the same ROM? Or stock ROM? And Can i update the software through OTA, even though it's rooted and S-OFF?

pls reply

After the Factory reset, u'll have the same rom as u do now which I guess is endymon, and since you currently are not running the stock rom, you won't receive any updates from HTC as those updates are only for stock roms.

I have the same Question, what i did to my phone was:
S-Off --> Flash stock room --> Update to 2.3.4 --> Unlock bootloader --> Flash CWM Recovery 5.0.20 --> Rooted ....
What will happen if i do factory reset? Will it come to the room that is as original when i bought the phone?
Note: i want it to be S-Off and rooted but with stock Recovery @[email protected] I am new to Android as this is my 1st time using so i wont dare to try if i do not understand ^_^
Well see I did it once and everything was gone but I was still on IC but then some fc's and phone was getting hot......so is it suppose to do that?
That's y I'm asking cause I don't know what to check for

My understanding is a reset will not affect s-off, root, or Rom. And it will not clear your sd card.

Ok maybe after I do a factory reset maybe I should do the wipes..........and u can choose to clear Ur SD or not

Locking OEM

Hi I have just recently unrooted my phone and back to stock with stock boothloader and recovery.
I did this because I am just patiently
Waiting for the ICS update.
My questing is...how do I lock the OEM on my phone? I know you could but I want to know how. And ....if I do that....WOULD IT WIPE MY PHONE?
I want to relock my OEM, but keep all my apps on my phone.
So again, if I lock my OEM, would it wipe my phone?
PS. I have 19020A

fastboot oem lock
Locking doesn't wipe anything. Unlocking wipes.

You don't have to lock bootloader to recieve OTA updates, unlocked bootloader just allows you to flash something via fastboot (usually CWM). Just be unrooted and have stock recovery, as I do. This way you can always flash CWM, make a nandroid backup and flash someting else...without losing any data (you don't unlock bootloader).
Ahhh damnit. Thanks krohn, had a bit of a brain freeze there.

Yea, why lock the bootloader? It doesn't need to be.
I thought locking the bootloader DID wipe. I guess I myself am mistaken too. (It would tell you though when you go to do it.).
Lastly, don't you think it's a little earlier to be going back to stock for the ICS update when it's not even announced as far as it being done and the phone; nor, is it announced of when the phone itself will be coming out. And, it won't be sometime till after that as well.
Just my opinion.
(You also didn't need to go unroot if you were stock rooted with no modifications).
Its just that I have lots of apps and I want to have them for when ICS comes out.
And....idk....I just figures if I am not rooted I might-as-well OEM lock just invade..if I might need to...for warenty

Nah your good on that... while it's rooted and awaiting the OTA... give your phone some Cyber air... over clock it with an app... install a better radio.. do something =]

Yes, you can be rooted, but you'll have to have stock recovery and you'll lose root with OTA update.

You don't need stock recovery. Stock recovery is not checked with an assert and is not patched, it is deleted and flashed using a full image. You can flash the OTA with CWM without any issues.
You will lose root in one of two scenarios with the OTAs, it recursively chmod's /system or formats /system (full update, not incremental). At this point all you need to do it flash the su binary again though to regain root access.

Htc desire ota update with root?

I have a rooted htc desire, with stock rom, but with clockworkmod. Today, I received a notification that a new ota update is out. I understand that I will lose my root, but is it safe to update through ota? Will it replace the custom recovery?
I already have problems with cwm. It doesn't work... it says that it can't mount cache, and I can't flash anything with it, nor make a factory data reset.
Is there a risk my phone will get bricked?
I really want this 3.0 update. Will you help me?

Update to ICS for nexus s 4G

Sorry I've been out of the loop for a bit. I have my phone rooted but on stock GB rom. If I try updating the stock ICS rom OTA I believe I will get an error. What is the easiest way to update and still keep my current data? I don't mind if I loose root. Can I unroot then instal the update OTA? Any suggestions welcome, please help!
I actually unrooted and then updated to ICS. After keeping stock for a couple of days I ended up rooting the phone so I could add the tap-to-focus feature to the camera.
Or you could just flash the stock ICS rom that's available in the development section.

bruce wayne, if I update from the development section i don't need to wipe data? i thought i saw that in the directions? thanks again.

Ideally you should wipe data. But if you're already rooted, just create a backup with whichever recovery you normally use. Then try to update with the stock ICS rom update posted by swampgoblin. You should be ok. But I do recommend that you wipe cache and Dalvik cache.

U could make a nandroid, wipe, update, & selective restore data only. at least this way, if it all goes wacky, u got a current nandroid to restore...

Mobile Odin Pro: Should wipe data/cache?

Sorry for the noob question, but I intend to update my 8013 to JB and wonder whether it's needed to wipe data/cache? Thank you!
I moved forward without doing so and no issues yet...

l think it depends what you're flashing.
Going from ICS to JB then no, don't wipe
Going from JB to ICS then yes otherwise it gets into a boot loop

Yes like the member above said.
But also what rom are you on if you are on custom or customized stock rom and losing data is not a big issue then I would suggest a clean wipe and then install as that would clean you systems
I think a wipe always suggested but I had this same concern about data wipe.
I went from the stock German N8010 4.1.1 rom to the stock US N8013 4.1.2 rom using Mobile Odin, and I only wiped Dalvik (did NOT wipe data). I still have root, and all my data, and so far, I don't seem to have any issues with anything.
But of course, I had titanium back ups, and dropbox data back ups just in case..
hard brick?

isnt it unsafe to do any wipe on a stock rom be it ICS or JB?wont it get hard brick by doing so?just wondering....
I haven't, not on my note 10.1... I used this method to get rid of the "Custom" status in my bootloader and about Settings. I also have a "0" flash count... I did run triangle away first though....
