little confusion about voodoo sound - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

i am trying to add voodoo sound since the volume is too low through bluetooth. is there a kernel i can add that just adds the voodoo sound. i have the voodoo fix but, i don't see anywhere to mess with the voodoo sound. not even sure if they two are related,
i have already flashed a kernel and rom and a speed boost for the valhalla rom. i like the set up as it is i don't want to overwrite or lose anything flashing another kernel. i just want to add voodoo sound. i guess i could just flash another kernel that includes the voodoo sound right over the existing kernel if i had to?

No - you need to download the app from the playstore to enable voodoo sound. With the kernel posted above you can use the free version.
Voodoo lagfix and voodoo sound are not the same thing.

Voodoo sound controls audio jack.
Regarding BT device you might try
DSPManager -

thx. i got voodoo sound working for me now. however it does nothing for bluetooth. i thought it would. i tried dspmanager (came with the rom) but whenever i use it it crashes. now it crashes all the time. i guess it might have a conflict with a program volume+ that i am trying but, that doesn't really help the volume issue either. i'll keep looking. i used the same headset on another phone and the volume was much louder. i couldn't even turn it all the way up. with this phone i can't get it high enough.

i got rid of the old possibly messed up version of dspmanager with titanium. then i installed the newer version and it still force closed at start up. then i uninstalled volume+ just to test and then i ran dsp and it worked but, i see nowhere that i can actually boost the sound it makes no change.

Overdriving the speakerphone

Some Aria users report low in-call & speakerphone volume. I personally keep my volume at max, use CM's DSP manager to boost the speaker volume maximally, and press the phone hard against my ear. Even with the windows up, the sound of the car is enough to make it very hard to hear.
I have to believe there is a way to overdrive the speaker... at least for me, even w/maximal volume settings, there is no crackle. It's as if the speakerphone is barely utilized.

First, you have to disable or uninstall DSP manager, they don't get along well.
Just in case, I'm attaching his app (unzip the file, the apk is inside) for you to install with your favorite file manager. Enjoy your new sound boost!
I just wish they would open up earpiece volume, since it is horrendously low on the Aria. I'm not sure if it's CM or what but it is too quiet on city streets.
At least now I'll hear when someone calls though, instead of finding out an hour later that my pocket silenced it.
There are 2 different sense Rom ports by drowning child that have way louder in call volume.so to me it would seem that there would have to be a way to increase the cm7 volume in the rom itself.

Funny you should mention that because it was the first thing I noticed after installing Pico

Wow, finally a nice piece of app that does Sound Widening properly. I think I could start to forget my previous Nokia phone over that aspect now. Thanks!
But yes, regrettably earpiece volume is still too low.
Cool app, my speaker crackles if any louder though, so I think I'll skip it as I would really like to keep the external speaker in tact.

I don't know what I am doing wrong here. I have downloaded this apk and installed it several times via clockworkmod, but there is no app to run on the phone after installing, nothing in sound settings to change. Please advise. Thanks!
I am running hoxnet_liberated_rc1 ROM with ClockworkMod 2.5.0.7. I don't believe that there is any DSP manager to disable in the this ROM.

The app is an apk that you have to install just like any other app and not in recovery. I also believe that it is designed for gingerbread roms. The rom you are running doesn't sound like a gingerbread rom to me.

[Q] 2.3.4 Voodoo Control (Volume) Alts?

Been running the GB leaks and have been very happy with them (especially GummyCharged GBE 1.0). My one issue is that the stock (2.2.x and leaked 2.3.x) ROMs all seem to suffer from low volume, most specifically, the max in-call volume.
This was fixed when running a voodoo compatible kernel with Voodoo Control. The problem now; however, is the source, and therefor kernel mods, haven't come out yet for any of the GB leaks. So, no more Voodoo sound improvements and DSP (built into Gummy) doesn't seem to do it.
Anyone have any other in-call sound boosting suggestions for Charge Gingerbread?
Try DSP Manager
The pay version of Voodoo Control is supposed to give you the same sound enhancements without the need for a Voodoo kernel, it only requires root access. If you try it, post back and let us know how it works.
Voodoo Control (paid) does support the leaked Charge 2.3.4 kerel yet, so it won't load the module.
DSP Manager helps, but I've not been able to boost the volumes to the same degree as Voodoo did.
That is why I am looking for alternatives.

Voodoo After Text

So Hey I'm using voodoo listening to music right? Either with the volume key map hack or not, and after I get a text (notification tone) it pauses the music for a second to let it play, and then it cranks up voodoo to 5db and blasts my ears. Using Faux's 4.3 on MIUI. Any ideas>?
Had a similar problem using faux's stock GB kernel. The only thing that worked was using the voodoo control app with volume key hack OFF and also using DSP manager. In DSP I only tweak the bass and EQ and don't mess with the loudness/compression stuff (leave that to voodoo).
Those two sound processors together have given me "normal" results...great sounds and the volume stays where I set it.

[Q] Tweak 2.0 audio issues

I installed Tweak 2.0 coming from stock and had serious issues with audio. I re-flashed wiping data and the problems still persisted. I am getting audio skips when listening to music and I also had bad high pitched screeching noises. The audio was just plain "flat".
I flashed back to Eclipse with AOSP apps and the music was back to crystal clear with no skipping at all and the music was back to the "full" sound I was used to. I listen to a lot of Pandora in the car as I travel frequently. I also have the voodoo sound plus app to correct the low audio gain common with Samsung phones.
I get better battery life on Tweak and would like to stay on Tweak but can not live with the audio issues I was having. Does the audio get processed by the ROM or Kernal? I am using stock kernal for both.
I can not figure out what the problem is with Tweak Rom.
You don't have dsp manager ruining as well do you. I had to uninstall it when I can from eclipse to tweaked because audio issues.

When I went to Tweak, it was a fresh install. DSP manager is included with Elclipse ROM, not Tweak. It was not even on my phone at the time.
Running Elclipse, I leave DSP manager off (all settings disabled).
Haven't heard of this one before - have you tried just using the same apks as are used in Eclipse? Audio has never been an issue, though I haven't used much beyond the play music and pandora apps myself.
Another thought - have you tried it with and without voodoo sound plus app being installed?
Hey Dwith,
No, I have not tried just the Eclipse Apps, I would not know where to start. In regards to the voodoo sound app, I can not listen to audio with my phone without it. It does not put out the correct audio output or dynamic range. The sound level is just too low without voodoo.
One would probably not notice if they are connecting the phone to a boombox or something small but when you connect it to an aplified home theater system or an aftermarket car audio system the difference between voodoo and non voodoo with the droid charge is like night and day.
I am pretty new to flashing ROM's and such so I am sorry if I can't troubleshoot this more. I was hoping maybe I was not the only one with this problem and others would chime in.
I really like Tweak but I can live with Eclipse too. They are both great ROMS.

Volume problems ... again ...

JB 4.2.1
Has anyone got either Volume+ or equilizer to work on the latest version of JB?
I can't get any joy from either. I used to be able to ramp up the sliders on equilizer which gave a boost but now there's no difference. A little clue to the fact that something is happening is that in equilizer if I choose the drop down for slider quick settings when I choose maximum I get a momentary volume increase. Momentary being about 1/4 sec.
I'd be interested if anyone has had any luck with either app and if so can you give any details on how you got it to work?

I use Beats. It seems to work for me.
I used to use equalizer but switched to dsp manager a while back which works fine.....
Let me reinstall equalizer to see if it still works.
Are we talking head phones or tab speakers here btw?
EDIT: Well I just tried equalizer and it worked brilliantly! :good: So it is something with you setup. You have enabled it from settings, sound, music effect haven't you?

Yes, music effects has been toggled to equilizer. Hmm, that's interesting - I presume you are on 4.2.1?
Something is obviously overriding it as the quick blip of extra volume I get when using the pull down and setting max sliders. I have set the sounds to play a ding when I do anything so I hear a quick ding in the louder volume then it goes back to original level.
Also I notice you are not on the stock rom so that may have something to do with it.
Not sure what might be causing it. Anyone else can confirm either this works or they experience the same thing?

beats? I'll try that - presume the it's an app called that.
No I'm not on stock But very similar.
There is a noticable increase in volume using equalizer. I'm sure there is a free demo version on the play store for you to try.

Yes I've tried this and what I notice is the opposite. When the sliders are reset to the middle the sound is normal (ie. same as without equilizer loaded) but louder than if I set the sliders to maximum.
As I say when I toggle to maximum there is a quick and much louder momentary sound increase which lasts a fraction of a second before going down to the lower volume.
I'm not sure what to look at as being the problem as there isn't much I have loaded that I can see might affect this. Very strange.
Still I'd be interested in anyone that can confirm a working instance with stock rom.
Edit: I have now tried a number of other equilizers and get the same behaviour so it appears something is resisting any change in settings.

I'm currently running Cromi 4.6.9 but have had this same problem on earlier Cromi versions too, actually for most of this year it seems. Which coincides with this thread saying the 4.2.1 update caused it for many people on various Nexus devices, which is referenced in Equalizer's app description on Google Play.
Equalizer always worked great for me until around then, and I've tried many things like uninstall/reinstall, other boosters including DSP Manager, even did full wipes during this period, but the volume just doesn't boost anymore. I use PowerAmp, and its built-in equalizer boosts the volume just as loud as Equalizer app used to do, which shows it's still possible but only within that app. Btw, I used PowerAmp in the past when Equalizer also worked fine, so I don't think it creates a conflict.
After seeing the above thread, I tested Equalizer on my Nexus 4 phone, which normally needs no volume boosting, with the same result - for a split-second it's louder but then goes to a slightly lower level than you started at, just as on my TF700. To me this indicates it would work correctly, but something else that wasn't there before now dampens it almost immediately.
@sdbags:
If for you it's apparently working correctly with same ROM as me on a TF700, can you think of why it's not for others? Also thanks for your fine work!
